- Video of the Russian Military shows the tactical 9K720 ISKANDER-M missile being loaded, launched and impacting during a Russian missile launch test.
The 9K720 Iskander (Russian: «Искандер»; NATO reporting name SS-26 Stone) is a mobile short-range ballistic missile system produced and deployed by the Russian Federation. The missile systems (Искандер-М) are to replace the obsolete OTR-21 Tochka systems, still in use by the Russian armed forces, by 2020.
In September 2017, the KB Mashinostroyeniya (KBM) general designer Valery M. Kashin said that there were at least seven types of missiles (and "perhaps more") for Iskander, including one cruise missile.

This Missile is actually very versatile, it can carry a thermonuclear weapon, High explosive fragmentation, submunition, penetration, fuel-air explosive and EMP.
What was shown in the video was the earth-penetrator (Bunker buster).
This Missile's Operational
range : 50 km (31 mi)-400-500 km (250-310 mi) for Iskander-M
Speed: 2,000 m/s (Mach 5.9) Burn-out velocity.
Though I don't know how many of these are made. Human weaponry is awesome! 😂
In the slow motion part, you can see it go deep inside the ground before exploding, without too much damaging the surroundings.
I suspected it being used against underground bunkers but wasn't sure, so, thank you!

@@oleksandr_ivanchenko may be they haven't loaded it with explosives, it's just a test : put in place, fire, fly fast, reach target, all good.. that baby can be 3.8 tons, you can put different warhead on it and it can be nuclear as well (wiki : 480-700 kg thermonuclear weapon, High explosive fragmentation, submunition, penetration, fuel-air explosive, EMP)
. I guess they could as well test the cinetic blast of an hypersonic crash... which is probably badass already... 3.8tons at mach 7 uuuhf...

if you go thru at play speed 0.25, and go play/pause slowly to the image at 1:47 the image prior to the missile clearly visible, there's already kind of ghost of the missile... just a frame before.. after the shadow's appearing ?? Is it a shockwave in front of the missile ? Is it just an video artifact from a fast rolling shutter speed ?

It is Bunker Buster. So explosion is not that big.
This is amazing system, works in any weather conditions, platform trucks are great, they have speed, and can drive trough any terrain, if it's upgradable to mid-range (maybe with lower warhead, because they have huge power, even 1/3 of that power will be enough to blow some bunkers, and more rocket fuel for longer range) that will be extremly good.

*cough* in Azeri/Armenian* Wars have ALWAYS been hella expensive, they've always been a drain on a states resources. No state WANTS war for that reason, but sometimes war us the only solution. It's terrible but that is human nature which stems from basic evolutionary adaptations to survive in the wild. The impact shown was pretty weak. 155mm or 8 inch howitzer rounds are that explosive. I suspect these rounds were intentionally reduced for practice.
