It is and it isnt. I see where they were going with this because if they didnt rely on performance so much they wouldnt have bought things like high refresh monitors or nice mice or good headseat or even mouse pads but at the same time I feel like theres a better way of including those things than having the score be purely based on performance of the team
@@aodhanomalley7742 honestly if I had to choose one good thing and everything else be just ok it would be 144hz monitor it really makes a big difference that and a good pair of headsets for games like csgo mouse being 3rd 4th being mousepad and 5th being keyboard because honestly mechanical keyboards really dont make that big of a difference other then they feel nice to click on some psuedo mech keyboards are just as good and even a 20$ membrane keyboard is still fine imo

A bit of constructive criticism, this final didn't have the same excitement towards the builds as the previous years. Usually its the builds and the sick deals you guys have acquired thats in focus, but this year it felt like the individual skill at the games mattered a lot more than the setups.

At least that's the takeaway: if you suck at a game, a great rig won't help you.
Still, the rest of the season was great to watch, maybe they're not as good in game-commentating?

Whilst I really enjoyed the season, I found the ending anti-climactic. I expected there to be some points for the build and some for the games.

Yeah, I was disappointed about the ending because the only thing that actually counted was that Red's team computers were working and they were better at FPS than the other team...
Yeah and they needed some kind of summary right before the matches; how many hours practices and how much on each game, how much time spent building pcs. They commented but it could have had more context there. And then the score graph overlays weren't easy to read at a glance to see where we were. I ended up pausing on every one of them.
And at their budget, all the PCs worked pretty much fine. Should have been like a $400 budget with the same requirements; like watching professional football in the snow.
I agree, this totally could have just been some random Channel Super Fun video and I wouldn't be any wiser to the difference.
I love Colton's way of revealing that they're part of LTT as soon as he knows that it won't have an affect on anything, just makes it more fun for the sellers if they do happen to be fans

The take away is that watching one team basically do nothing but practice games for 2 parts while the other team actually does some scrapping feels like I'm watching two different types of shows mashed together.

None of them are professional e-sports players. They don't have a high enough skill to realize exactly what the enemy team is doing right or wrong and adjust to it. So it's a lot more about morale than it is about focus. And it's a leader's job to keep the enthusiasm and hopes up.

Darius Issobel I really just meant that a person will perform better on good hardware compared to potato hardware. I’m not saying that a person on 144 FPS will be better at a game than a person on 60 FPS.

That was too painful to watch imo. Worse was csgo.
This came across as a really messy edit and honestly probably the most disappointing Scrapyard Wars so far.
Lots of potential here for breakdowns of the teams total performance, their benches of each game, cross comparisons on price/perf.
And instead the ending is essentially badly edited clips of high fives and people getting killed, with no real point of reference for the viewer.
Plus what seems like a token award ceremony with very little explanation as to what has actually happened.
No proper tracking of the event was given, the running totals were confusing, just seems like perhaps BTS this was a very messy Scrapyard Wars.
I feel like one of two options would have fixed it.
Either they were to have a *much* lower budget and keep the gaming element, or they ditch the gaming element have have judges rate different elements of the setup (comfort, appearances, usability, performance ofc, ect).
As it stands there was so much money left over the scrap part wasn't there, and since it was all about gaming skills the yard wars wasn't there. :[

This was really messy, especially when they were showing each other their builds.
I think it is because they wanted to show off the gaming aspect more. This was a big change from normal scrapyard wars, and seeing as how it is getting harder to come up with new ideas, I think it worked out all right.
@jesus barrera except that they proved that having a better monitor can make a difference in gaming, and having higher fps does the same. So this was a challenge for them to figure out how to balance the issues. Less about the individual pieces of PC, and more about the whole set up. Sure not a lot of people liked this season, but then again, most people dont like change. If they had the same challenge year after year, people would bitch about it, if they change it up to make it more interesting, people still bitch.
@jesus barrera well to be fair I noticed on one race the track lagged really bad on one of the corners, and one of them commented later about it. So the PC hardware was still an issue.
But alas it's how it is going to be in the future. Hardware is once again outpacing the games. My base system is 7 years old now with a new RTX2060 it's still running all the games they played and most triple A titles just fine at highest settings, albeit @1080p on a dual monitor setup. But easily get over 60fps+ no problem.
So it is going to get harder and harder for them to find PC's for their budget that are crappy, unless they do things like set challenges like build the most underpowered/Previous generations PC that will run the latest CoD or Battlefield games.
@jesus barrera I think they challenged them on actual Gaming/budget buying because honestly you can only lower the budget so much to buy a gaming PC nowadays.. it is pretty cheap already

the ending kind of sucked imho, didn't like how it seemed so one sided in the fps games, which its obvious the team chemistry luke's team built up over the past few days helped a lot, I wished the a metric like fps per dollar would have counted in the end scores, I think linus team with their killer deals would have won the competition overall lol GGs everyone
yeah i think it should have been a final score that was basically calculated by how much was left of the budget, the results of the pvp, how well the pc's benchmarked, and the overall satisfaction of using the complete setup (peripherals, furniture etc.) based on a third-party rating them. that would have been way better than just straight up pvp deciding it all.

Hey, I've been loving this series since I discovered your channel, especially all the different twists in each season.
The build budgets seemed too high this time, it wasn't hard to get a computer that didn't hinder the player's performance. Now that you guys have a sense of what money can get, maybe lower the budget next season if you really want teams to stretch every dollar just to get a build that's not "bottlenecking" the player's ability ;) Looking forward to next season!!!
600$ to get a rig, chair, monitor and peripherals isn't exactly easy. I think they just got very lucky-(especially linus' team)
@@jakobvanklinken $600 per person for an entire setup is stupid cheap and hard to typically do. I think it was a combination of good sales during filming, and the fact that they have all gotten really good at finding the best deals and haggling.
@@MaxDad7 the time constraint is the hard part, the peripherals and furniture only needed to be good enough to use for an afternoon. If you have the time to wait there's recycled/refurbished workstations with an i5-4570 for under $250, get one and throw in a $150 1060 or similar gpu and $50 on a psu. Leaves you with $150 to spend on peripherals. These prices aren't even hunting for deals just searching 4570 or 1060 on kijiji.

You should start a new series that is LTT internal gaming tournaments. Drop the PC building portion and have a series of training to get good at a game and then doing tournaments. This was super entertaining.

not true, in dirt 2 Luke's team had problems. i Think their fps in that game dropped well below 30, maybe as low as 20-25. you could see it when they showed video from their team.

dirt 2.0 is very demanding max settings 2560 by 1440p 90 fps but in some places will still dip down to 50 on one of the maps with 1080ti and i7 8700k

High refresh monitors definetly help even if youre a pleb. However i think that big mousepads and good mice make a much larger difference for fps games.

Tools are only useful when you know how to use them.
They were banned from practicing outside hours and red team cheated in that regard. I don’t know if the result would have been different tho

cs requires pin point accuracy and flicking cause headshots and dodging flashes,and recoil control,and movement inaccuracy, although tracking is somewhat necessary using guns that dont
Even from my profile pic you can tell I'm biased because I enjoyed cs from when I was a kid and still play now,it doesn't get boring, while apex got boring quickly like pubg after a while

There's a lot of cameras and different editors worked on it apparently. Perhaps that's the reason?
Many different cameras.. They are not "buildt" for big shoots like this, they would need more red cameras then :P And at 50k dollars each thats very pricey.
