In a lot of tasks the 2048sp is actually worse than a 570. i had a 2048sp and upgraded to a 580 and got around 20 to 30 percent more performance in rendering and gameplay. I played destiny 2 most at the time and went from around 60fps average to over 144 average at 1080p high. It was like going form a 1050ti to a 1070ti. They completely neutered the specs for the 2048sp.
This isn't the normal RX 580, it's the cut down China only one which has decent performance differences (Believe it's the 2048SP version, which is similar in performance to an rx 570 or worse). The 580 is pretty old now but can still play a lot of modern games, definitely not a good value though.
The regular 580 wasn't a good card when it was new, let alone now. It was a mid-tier (on the lower end) card when released. The only reason it remained popular was for cheap GPU mining. Edit: just buy a used 1070 ti - 1080 ti instead. Way better cards. At the time I upgraded from a Rx 480 (which performed about the same as the 580), to a 1070 ti and it was a significant upgrade.

watching the video Linus agrees with me... but please for the love of god can you do the same video but without sponsored purchases. I auto ignore sponsored options even if they are cheaper because I know that means there are spending about 10% of there price into sponsored and it will be cheaper by someone else later down the line. Other guy won't feel it is necessary to raise there price by 10%.
I'm finding now that it's easier the horrible search function is making it close to unusable to find what you type in. Also now I'm often finding that in store it is around the same price and sometimes cheaper to buy than to get things on Amazon these days. They won't sell really bad products as they need repeat custom.
I've been getting ram and drives at Best Buy for the same price as Amazon. Have to go across town, but I don't have to wait a day or two to get what I need. Amazon is still a great way to buy stuff, in my opinion, but price checking local places for a lot of things is always a good idea
If you're near a MicroCenter, you can make out like a bandit on a system with little worry you will end up with unreliable crap! I have never went there and left disappointed, and either walked out with what I came for under budget, or walked out with more than I came for because my budget stretched further than I expected, or could have hoped for.

You should look closely at your water block mounting then. I run a dual tower air cooler, only one of the fans on now because of changing out the RAM and have not gotten around to remounting the other fan, top temp playing Destiny 2 is 75c. It's all too easy to have the water block not get good contact in some places if one corner gets tightened too much before the other three.
Yeah it's a bit of a hot boy. Mine gets around the 80C range under full sustained load with a NH-D15S with second (non-Noctua) fan added, that's with a PBO of 130/85/120.
Hey guys, i think there is something worth mentioning. That GPU is an RX 580 2048SP (at least the one showed in amazon). This means that it has 256 less stream processors than a normal 580, making it almost an RX 570 with like a 40mhz higher boost clock. Either way it's still a chinese p.o.s (and buying a used one would make more sense), but that could explain worse performance than what you expected.
I've liked their stuff so far, the core reactor in the video actually does create un testing, o have a basic pylon 550 that i got for very cheap and has worked wonderfully for over 2 years and for the price it had an amazing packaging and even had some stickers. Also, i've seen some cases and they at least look good on aesthetics.
Don't dismiss a brand like that. That is a core reactor II, which is not the best but is still a solid psu. Their original core reactor though, is an amazing psu. Psucultists put the core reactor in their highest tier with a gold label, which means it's tested by professional reviews and among the best units. It can actually compete with very high end psus from famous brands at a fraction of the price.
The RX 580 is still getting some driver updates just less often and mainly to fix bugs and for security patches instead of new features or improvements for specific games.
I personally wouldn't call that an RX 580 (regardless of its name). Much like how nVidia has made several cards under the same name but have wildly different performance characteristics or even a different die all together. The RX 580 in this video is the RX 580 2048SP which is the cut down version and performs more akin to an RX 570...
There be something wrong with your RX 580. Cause my Refurbished RX 580 from XFX. Plays games better then that card . I got mine with Ryzen 3. My cyberpower PC came with 570 that card died the PSU died since I bought in 2021 . Plus I seen gaming PC in Walmart with same XFX RX 580 just the other day . Hell there still pre-built system over 1000$ with RX 580 In 2024 . Mine was 999.99 in 2021
I'm gaming on a system with a RX 580 (Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Nitro+ 8GB) and am still quite happy. Got the card pretty cheap back in 2020 for around 200€. It runs basically any indie to AA title on either high or medium settings at 1080p or 2K with >80FPS and I rarely get noticeable drops. But I do have to admit that running any of the AAA titles released in the last four years does come with limitations and I probably wouldn't havea great time playing most of them. It's funny to compare with the video since my setup ran Alan Wake just fine on higher settings than the ones shown. :D
I'm honestly shocked at how awful that rx 580 was running. I've SEEN A friends run better than this with a near identical setup. Maybe that card is even more deceptive than shown? Something deeper? Either way, great episode. Thanks.
My kid has my old Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 SE with 8 GB of memory and it works great for 1080p gaming to this day. Doom Eternal looks way better than yours. I wonder if you have the 4GB variant and I missed that. He will get my 5700XT once I upgrade to the 7950 XTX before they are hard to find. Been looking for a good deal this last week. I had one of those showkings GPUs. Bought it for a budget build for a coworker so they could work from home and do some light gaming. It works fine enough for 1080p medium-high settings with older gen intel cpus. But for about $40 more you can get an XFX RX580 that is not a 2048SP.

I searched CPU, and got a bunch of actual CPUs from both AMD and intel. I did search only for CPU, so maybe personalization of search, or something... Edit: I searched GPU, and got dumb results, I downloaded Amazon Unsponsor off of web store, and it fixed it.
I love the Rx580, I got one 5 ueats ago for about 100 euro, for the games I play, elden ring, BG3 and monster Hunter world, it's handled everything like a champ. Although I can feel it starting to age it was an absolute beast especially with it's 8gb of VRam, that's what allowed it to keep chugging along all these years with modern games I recon.
The reason boomers (and even some Gen-Xer's) often refer to entire computers as a CPU is because they're using the obsolete "Central Processor Unit" terminology as opposed to the newer "Central Processing Unit" terminology. Back in the Mainframe days the CPU was the processor machine where the processors lived, when microcomputers started to become a household thing it was still common well into the 80s for a desktop/tower to be referred to as "the CPU" even in literature. This practice is long since dead (hence why Linus has probably never encountered it) bot old school computer users still often fall back to it, it isn't them being stupid it's them being outdated. Amazon however has no excuse.
The RX580 is still getting driver updates. The one on my old pc is currently on a driver from june. Thos does not really change the conclusion that you should not buy one in 2024. Its also the oldest generation from AMD that still gets driver support. So its probably not going to get that many more updates.
paying like 1500$ for a regular 4060 and a 5 7600 with 32 ram and 1 tb, with a lil rgb there, because i want the convenience of warranty, its my 1st setup im both mad and excited. to be non american and be into tech is exhausting financially and mentally to think i could get a 4060 ti 16gb instead and 7600x but im skeptical about amazon warranty, i also think amazon does a horrid job at providing information about the shops you buy from.
This isn't the RX 580's performance, that thing competed with the gtx 1060 back in the day and I know that the 1060 doesn't struggle this BAD on modern games
My take away is the RX580 is way better than I expected all of these years later, I am thankful to have a 6700XT, but I think I could live with an RX580
For around the same price I got my first PC with half the storage and a 4060 in it. The 4060 isn't exactly a fantastic card, but that system still ran rings around this one
I bought a RX580 in 2022 for the sole reason that it was cheap even from a reputable brand and had 3 DP outputs for my office machine to be able to output to 3 monitors for light office work. For that, it’s still great. Anything more than that though, you can do so much better for the price. Also, if I ever shop at any online retailer, I *never* click on the sponsored link, especially on amazon, even if it looks like the one I want. The only thing you need to become one of those is pay money, which means I might not be going to the seller I want to buy from or the precise product, and I’d rather not chance it since often those results will omit things like who the seller is or the seller will have obfuscated that it’s not the one I want, so I just learned to skip them entirely and start with results further down, and on amazon about midway down the page since the first 5 non sponsored ones are usually the amazon versions of the thing I was looking for so they can snipe my money away from the product I wanted to buy.
The rx 4/580 were awesome cards for a budget gamer , I remember being in my late teens and sticking this golden era piece into my gaming pc , had the nitro + version with the oc switch. Did me good . Amd is still slepted on gpu wise.
This GPU is not a real RX 580 but some weird respec that performs even worse than an RX570. I had an RX 570 until a year or two ago and it played games better than this at low to medium settings.

This GPU is actually the rx580 2048SP, the lower spec model of the 580, so glad that I'm not the only one that made this mistake lol.

18:56 To be fair, the 5800x runs pretty toasty even with good cooling. Mine struggles to stay cool even with a beefy custom watercooling setup.

Unpopular Opinion: RX 580 is still useful, the one you guys got is just a bad price
i bought a 580 2048sp or whatever from AliExpress 2 years ago for 55 bucks its still working just fine in someones computer.

rx580s are not BAD cards, but only usable for ultra budget builds, not something where you're spending 900 dollars lmao

I've liked their stuff so far, the core reactor in the video actually does create un testing, o have a basic pylon 550 that i got for very cheap and has worked wonderfully for over 2 years and for the price it had an amazing packaging and even had some stickers. Also, i've seen some cases and they at least look good on aesthetics.
Don't dismiss a brand like that. That is a core reactor II, which is not the best but is still a solid psu. Their original core reactor though, is an amazing psu. Psucultists put the core reactor in their highest tier with a gold label, which means it's tested by professional reviews and among the best units. It can actually compete with very high end psus from famous brands at a fraction of the price.
The RX 580 is still getting some driver updates just less often and mainly to fix bugs and for security patches instead of new features or improvements for specific games.

I personally wouldn't call that an RX 580 (regardless of its name). Much like how nVidia has made several cards under the same name but have wildly different performance characteristics or even a different die all together. The RX 580 in this video is the RX 580 2048SP which is the cut down version and performs more akin to an RX 570...

For cards and monitors which are limited to 1080_60 it's perfectly fine. But as soon as either of these has to be higher - nope.
Part of the problem with the RX 580 may be that because it’s remanufactured, it may be performing worse than an official card
Apparently it's a cut-down version of the RX 580 that's actually much more similar to the RX 570 and really shouldn't be called RX 580

it still receives the updates but they are no longer optimizing it so its performance will suffer as it ages. It only gets security updates now sadly.

There be something wrong with your RX 580. Cause my Refurbished RX 580 from XFX. Plays games better then that card . I got mine with Ryzen 3.
My cyberpower PC came with 570 that card died the PSU died since I bought in 2021 . Plus I seen gaming PC in Walmart with same XFX RX 580 just the other day . Hell there still pre-built system over 1000$ with RX 580 In 2024 .

I'm gaming on a system with a RX 580 (Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Nitro+ 8GB) and am still quite happy. Got the card pretty cheap back in 2020 for around 200€. It runs basically any indie to AA title on either high or medium settings at 1080p or 2K with >80FPS and I rarely get noticeable drops. But I do have to admit that running any of the AAA titles released in the last four years does come with limitations and I probably wouldn't havea great time playing most of them. It's funny to compare with the video since my setup ran Alan Wake just fine on higher settings than the ones shown. :D

My kid has my old Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 SE with 8 GB of memory and it works great for 1080p gaming to this day. Doom Eternal looks way better than yours. I wonder if you have the 4GB variant and I missed that. He will get my 5700XT once I upgrade to the 7950 XTX before they are hard to find. Been looking for a good deal this last week.
Edit: Just realized yours is the RX580 2048SP with lower boost and memory clocks and only 4GB of RAM. Much different than mine

Seeing that the first search result is the RX 580, which happens to be the graphics card in my PC, I’m confident the result would’ve been good enough… a couple of years ago.
Edit: The same goes for the B550. Now waiting for the sticker price.

I swear ten years from now they'll still be selling RX 580s. Of course the real RX 580 has been out of production for a long time, the 2048SP is basically an RX 570. I have heard the cores are still in production though, not sure where exactly.
GPU is currently unavailable.... But compared to my 1050ti, according to userbenchmark the 580 is roughly 60% higher fps, so there is that.

I had one of those showkings GPUs. Bought it for a budget build for a coworker so they could work from home and do some light gaming. It works fine enough for 1080p medium-high settings with older gen intel cpus. But for about $40 more you can get an XFX RX580 that is not a 2048SP.
7 year old gpu... ha ha...me sat watching in 4k on my 2014 MSI red dragon GTX 970 with a fan that has a blade missing that vibrates the case when it gets to 50%... solved by putting it to 100%...👍👍 still game on it aswell...
I searched CPU, and got a bunch of actual CPUs from both AMD and intel. I did search only for CPU, so maybe personalization of search, or something...
Edit: I searched GPU, and got dumb results, I downloaded Amazon Unsponsor off of web store, and it fixed it.

I love the Rx580, I got one 5 ueats ago for about 100 euro, for the games I play, elden ring, BG3 and monster Hunter world, it's handled everything like a champ. Although I can feel it starting to age it was an absolute beast especially with it's 8gb of VRam, that's what allowed it to keep chugging along all these years with modern games I recon.
The reason boomers (and even some Gen-Xer's) often refer to entire computers as a CPU is because they're using the obsolete "Central Processor Unit" terminology as opposed to the newer "Central Processing Unit" terminology. Back in the Mainframe days the CPU was the processor machine where the processors lived, when microcomputers started to become a household thing it was still common well into the 80s for a desktop/tower to be referred to as "the CPU" even in literature. This practice is long since dead (hence why Linus has probably never encountered it) bot old school computer users still often fall back to it, it isn't them being stupid it's them being outdated. Amazon however has no excuse.
The RX580 is still getting driver updates. The one on my old pc is currently on a driver from june. Thos does not really change the conclusion that you should not buy one in 2024. Its also the oldest generation from AMD that still gets driver support. So its probably not going to get that many more updates.
paying like 1500$ for a regular 4060 and a 5 7600 with 32 ram and 1 tb, with a lil rgb there, because i want the convenience of warranty, its my 1st setup im both mad and excited. to be non american and be into tech is exhausting financially and mentally to think i could get a 4060 ti 16gb instead and 7600x but im skeptical about amazon warranty, i also think amazon does a horrid job at providing information about the shops you buy from.

This isn't the RX 580's performance, that thing competed with the gtx 1060 back in the day and I know that the 1060 doesn't struggle this BAD on modern games
My take away is the RX580 is way better than I expected all of these years later, I am thankful to have a 6700XT, but I think I could live with an RX580
For around the same price I got my first PC with half the storage and a 4060 in it. The 4060 isn't exactly a fantastic card, but that system still ran rings around this one
I bought a RX580 in 2022 for the sole reason that it was cheap even from a reputable brand and had 3 DP outputs for my office machine to be able to output to 3 monitors for light office work. For that, it’s still great. Anything more than that though, you can do so much better for the price.
Also, if I ever shop at any online retailer, I *never* click on the sponsored link, especially on amazon, even if it looks like the one I want. The only thing you need to become one of those is pay money, which means I might not be going to the seller I want to buy from or the precise product, and I’d rather not chance it since often those results will omit things like who the seller is or the seller will have obfuscated that it’s not the one I want, so I just learned to skip them entirely and start with results further down, and on amazon about midway down the page since the first 5 non sponsored ones are usually the amazon versions of the thing I was looking for so they can snipe my money away from the product I wanted to buy.
The rx 4/580 were awesome cards for a budget gamer , I remember being in my late teens and sticking this golden era piece into my gaming pc , had the nitro + version with the oc switch. Did me good . Amd is still slepted on gpu wise.

That GPU is BS not RX 580. Had high on Doom Eternal in about 90 fps on Vulkan ... So it is not RX 580.
This GPU is not a real RX 580 but some weird respec that performs even worse than an RX570. I had an RX 570 until a year or two ago and it played games better than this at low to medium settings.
I run a RX580 with a 5600g and yes drivers are still been supported by AMD. Mine is the MSI 8gb
