I planted 45 tomato plants last summer. Bought one of these fruit strainers for my Kitchen Aid and made my own marinara (known as Passata in Italy). I have so many jars of tomato passata it’s ridiculous. And since I didn’t use pesticides at all I dried out the skins, ground them to a powder and use it as tomato paste to thicken my passata. Gardening needs to become mainstream again

when I grew my garden I learned at the end of the tomatoe season (when you have green tomatoes on the vines in the fall) to take those green tomatoes wrap them in news paper and up them in a large grocery brown paper bag. Within a few days/week they rippen. This is what I would make tomato sause with and freeze the sause for use during the winter. A wonderful treat on a cold night.
Good luck with your tomatoes garden this year!! ☘🍅🥫🍅🍅🍅🥫

I feel like the USDA isn’t necessarily doing a great job of monitoring the organic producers. I read an article about a farming group in the midwest that figured out a way to fool the system using a complex network of organic and non-organic farms. Whole Foods had been buying these non-organic products as organic. If we’re paying more, which I’m ok with, there needs to be heavy-duty supervision. Either that, or change the laws. We allow way more nasty stuff than European countries.

The scandal with that midwest organic farming thing is an exception to the general rule of what's going on in the world of organic foods. PLUS you have to be aware of the difference between produce and foods that have more than one ingredient (prepared foods can have some small amount of things they don't even have to put on the label...you can check to see if I'm right, but I think I am). There are local certifying agencies that certify organic farms and if you're interested you should get to know the group that certifies farms organic in your neck of the woods. Buy certified organic, but also buy seasonal and local if at all possible. I'm sorry to say that some of the certifying agencies are reportedly rubber stamp groups and are not doing the job they are required to do (sorry but I don't have names EXCEPT for OCI which I see on a lot of prepared foods from Trader Joes...this group has been sued several times for certifying food organics that weren't, so I don't trust them). However, they're also in the minority (though i know there shouldn't be ANY). In the northeast, there are two groups...NOFA (Northeast Organic Famers Association...they certify farms in NY, NJ, RI, CT, MA, NH, VT) and MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners). These are both STELLAR organizations that provide true accountability to make sure the farmers are doing what they're supposed to be doing (the NOFA code for organic farmers of veg is 116 pages long). I'm a member of the NOFA-NY Chapter because of my interest in certified organic food (plus I've been working with a certified organic farm organizing a CSA group for over 20 years). ❤☮🌎

U should definitely look into food pantries in your area and also community resource centers. Also if after you pay all your bills and you only have 80 left to eat, there's a great chance you would qualify for food benefits. Where I used to work, id help young pregnant woman with resources and applying for benefits & its not as hard or aggravating as many pple claim! U can go online and apply or run up there. It doesn't take long at all. And you renew maybe once or twice a year. Wether pr not u do get approved or do not, Go to the food pantries too...God Bless you 🙏🏼

You can soak most of your produce in vinegar water for 20 minutes to clean the pesticides from your fruits and vegetables. Of course there are a few exceptions! I love Bobby's videos and he's very helpful but at the moment many Middle income families are struggling with their expenses (grocery bills are a big one!) vinegar is relatively cheap and may help with healthier fruits and vegetables without the extra cost.

I want to know where companies are sourcing. I feel as consumers, we deserve to know exactly where our food is coming from and how our food is being treated. It's sad that we don't have any pure produce anymore. It's ALL contaminated. It's bad for people-like me, who are extremely allergic to fertilizers. Have you looked into CSA farms? I buy most of my produce from a “local” farm (30 miles from me). It’s a small, organic farm and they use natural techniques to keep pests away. Some farms have a box delivery option. I know you said you moved away from farmland but these small organic farms are all over. In addition to being organic, the produce I buy there is just picked and they choose nutrient rich, flavorful varieties.

I am sorry that your husband had a heart attack. Plant based diet is the best. Fruits, whole grains like brown rice, lentils, beans, vegetables, nuts and seeds are the best foods. Trust me, especially if someone just had a heart attack. GOD forbid that he gets another one. I used to be 339 pounds now I weigh 196 just from eating plant based. I don't even work out I only walk. Don't let people fool you. I only watched this video because he is talking about healthy foods to buy organic or nonorganic. White rice is not too bad compared to food derived from animals. My sleep apnea went away, my acid reflux went away, and I feel better because I look better. If you want try to convince your husband to eat all the foods i mentioned for 2 week. And I guarantee he will feel better. Watch the documentary called Game Changers. Arnold Schwarzenegger produced that documentary about the plant based lifestyle. Even Arnold is now almost 100% plant based. And everyone knows he is a legendary body builder. The only thing that he hasn't given up is raw eggs in a smoothie. But who knows maybe he gave that now too. Because he said that a few years ago. You can find that video on UA-cam. Do the research, you don't have to believe me. Just search for that video. And watch the documentary so you can see for yourself. Hope this helps. Have a blessed day.

Farmers Markets are great for potentially getting to know the origins of the produce and maybe even knowing a farmer or two. As a farmer in Califorina, I suggest to anyone that is frightened of their food supply, to grow their own food. It will make them feel better about their food, and they will find out what it takes to have a consistent, convenient and reliable food supply in grocery stores near where they live. Warning: growing your own produce might be the most expensive food you will eat. 😉

Bobby provides a great public service. BUT just a few corrections: if produce is sold as “organic” in the US, regardless of origin, it must abide by the USDA standard; conventionally grown tomatoes at the base of Mt. Vesuvius can have just as much pesticide residue as grown anywhere else (ie, no place is free of pest pressure, esp. in Italy since tomatoes are not native to Europe); cantaloupe, despite the rind, can have high levels of pathogens like salmonella and should always be washed.

There are old men and women who stay alive till they are 100-110 and they smoke cigars and drink alcohol. Then there are people who eat healthy and die early. The super healthy eaters become paranoid and neurotic. I think the key to health and well being and aging long is to combine healthy eating with also having things that give you pleasure. Being too obsessive about healthy foods is a sickness on its own perhaps a worse one.

I've been buying organic produce from Fresh Thyme Market. In the last few weeks every vegetable I've been buying comes from Mexico now. I've learned that the U.S. sells the banned pesticides to Mexico such as Paraquat and DDT. It's very frustrating because I live in MN, which is next to Canada and almost all the produce is from Mexico. Fresh Thyme has Farmers Market in their name and nothing is local. Grrrrrrrr!!!

Along with the vax in our food they want to stop labeling our food as to what is in it, or what it is such as gmos. I noticed recently walmart carries potatoes without a produce code and no other indication if they are gmo or not.

Good question. Given the way things are going in this country, with the chemical companies always lobbying for weakened safety rules, we are going to have to be very vigilant. I think mRNA is going to be used more and more for drugs, so that is where we will want to be wary. But it is conceivable that technology could be applied to seeds. They will do it if it's profitable, and to hell with our health.

As I understand it, washing can remove some residue that sits on the exterior of the produce. However, while the plant is growing, it is taking in those pesticides into the interior, so simply washing the exterior won't get rid of all of it. But certainly it could help. It would depend on the produce of course. Some couldn't be scrubbed of course.
