I feel like the USDA isn’t necessarily doing a great job of monitoring the organic producers. I read an article about a farming group in the midwest that figured out a way to fool the system using a complex network of organic and non-organic farms. Whole Foods had been buying these non-organic products as organic. If we’re paying more, which I’m ok with, there needs to be heavy-duty supervision. Either that, or change the laws. We allow way more nasty stuff than European countries.
The scandal with that midwest organic farming thing is an exception to the general rule of what's going on in the world of organic foods. PLUS you have to be aware of the difference between produce and foods that have more than one ingredient (prepared foods can have some small amount of things they don't even have to put on the label...you can check to see if I'm right, but I think I am). There are local certifying agencies that certify organic farms and if you're interested you should get to know the group that certifies farms organic in your neck of the woods. Buy certified organic, but also buy seasonal and local if at all possible. I'm sorry to say that some of the certifying agencies are reportedly rubber stamp groups and are not doing the job they are required to do (sorry but I don't have names EXCEPT for OCI which I see on a lot of prepared foods from Trader Joes...this group has been sued several times for certifying food organics that weren't, so I don't trust them). However, they're also in the minority (though i know there shouldn't be ANY). In the northeast, there are two groups...NOFA (Northeast Organic Famers Association...they certify farms in NY, NJ, RI, CT, MA, NH, VT) and MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners). These are both STELLAR organizations that provide true accountability to make sure the farmers are doing what they're supposed to be doing (the NOFA code for organic farmers of veg is 116 pages long). I love Bobby's videos and he's very helpful but at the moment many Middle income families are struggling with their expenses (grocery bills are a big one!) vinegar is relatively cheap and may help with healthier fruits and vegetables without the extra cost.

My husband had a massive heart attack last year. After I watched Bobby's videos, I changed some of the food that I though they were healthy. Bobby gave a great suggestion about the daily essential food such as like milk, eggs, cereal, and cooking oil which I see some change of my husband. 12 years ago around 2011, my coworker printed out an article on how in America in the early 1900’s & perhaps way before that , there were 100 or more types of lettuce available, or at least seeds you could buy The article explained how as time went on the types of lettuce simply declined as American families found fast food & convenience. I myself should eat better for starters as we all should. I should take up gardening.
I love the frozen Organic green beans from Costco. I have not found them to be mushy. I usually instapot them for just 3 minutes then do a quick release.
I noticed you didn't mention mushrooms. I heard in the past to only buy organic mushrooms because they absorb a lot of what is sprayed on them. What is your comment on mushrooms?

I am allergic to sulfites. Red wine makes me through up after a few hours. Also in Portugal it is forbidden by law to add sugar to wine to increase their alcohol level!
Juice at the grocery store has been processed which is why it has a much longer shelf life(30 + days) than juice from a shop(1-5 days )the processing kills many of the valuable nutrients and benefits of juicing. It will still taste good but the nutrition benefits is why most people juice to begin with.
I knew some of this by researching, but not all. THANK YOU BOBBY for the best information out there! So, most of our organic food that we buy comes from Mexico. Does anyone know if they use the bad pesticides? I bet they do. Wow....I've always thought so. What CAN one eat these days?
My Brother in law works with imported produce at the airport. Produce that is imported as “organic”, if FDA inspections finds one critter in a whole pallet of produce cargo, the entire pallet gets fumigated with non organic pesticide. But it still moves on as organic. 😢
I've always wondered about that and now I have an answer. Even if it's not found to have issues, I can't imagine they don't have to spray the container so foreign pests won't come into this country. I'd love to really know the details on this. Buy local, buy organic, buy seasonal. ❤☮🌎
Could you make a video about how you prepare/wash your items after buying them? I know a lot of people use vinegar or baking soda, I'd love to know your favorite methods.
Thank you for all your helpful info! I always try to remember your videos when grocery shopping. Can you do a video about fruits that no longer have seeds like grapes, watermelon, oranges.. it seems impossible to find one that are seeded even at health food stores
I wish we lived in a world where nobody ever had to think for a second about what was in their food because nobody would ever sell anything that is carcinogenic, inflammatory, bad for gut health etc… this is such a dystopian society and actually being a conscious consumer is an overwhelming journey. Like almost nothing is safe and what is, is often unaffordable. I just feel sad that people cant even buy fruit and vegetables without also consuming cancer.
Organic produce is a great option for those that can afford it. But how does the organic produce consumer know for certain that they are getting what they pay for? They don’t! Farmers Markets are great for potentially getting to know the origins of the produce and maybe even knowing a farmer or two. As a farmer in Califorina, I suggest to anyone that is frightened of their food supply, to grow their own food. It will make them feel better about their food, and they will find out what it takes to have a consistent, convenient and reliable food supply in grocery stores near where they live. Warning: growing your own produce might be the most expensive food you will eat. 😉
It's great to see you guys filming so freely! Thank you for helping to clear the air around Organic vs. Non-organic, it can be so confusing. I want to save money when I can but still eat safe! Thank you Bobby!

So if the organic has organic pesticides he never addressed what they are or how health effecting they are!? Please Bobby, please address these issues.
He could have been referring to things like BT, which naturally occurs in soil and it is toxic to some garden pests. Organic farmers can use it and they can still be certified organic. He probably wanted to keep his presentation short and not get too deeply into these sometimes complex topics.
@@karelriley2406 Exactly! Bt has been used for many years and the mosquito dunks to prevent mosquito larvae from developing is a different strain from Bt but just as natural. That product will be safe to water your vegetable seedling to eliminate fungus gnat larvae that live in the soil and will kill your seedling.
I used to buy everything organic. But with the inflation I've stopped most things. I only still buy grass fed/organic meats, and root vegetables/kale and spinach. I do buy fruits too, organic.
If you have a Costco near you, Costco has been stocking more organic food for reasonable prices, especially frozen vegetables which I used when making baby food or just researched your local grocery stores. Most have online stores where you can see what their organic prices are so you can better planned your shopping. Plus, some may have in-house coupons.
Nice stack of green onions behind you in the beginning of the video. I love green onions. I would buy a ton of them at Kroger and the county farmers market.
Well, let me ask you something. I know that strawberries are on the dirty dozen. But if you wash them the way that you said to wash them with vinegar, can you buy non-organic as long as you watch them??
I'm willing to pay more for safe foods.... but I don't know what is what.... I get overwhelmed with all the trickery that's involved and play on words by dishonest food companies not to mention FDA approving unsafe additives and dangerous pesticides.
You are so right. I say it's best to avoid packaged foods that have been processed with a lot of additives, and buy as much organic produce as you can.

Bobby provides a great public service. BUT just a few corrections: if produce is sold as “organic” in the US, regardless of origin, it must abide by the USDA standard; conventionally grown tomatoes at the base of Mt. Vesuvius can have just as much pesticide residue as grown anywhere else (ie, no place is free of pest pressure, esp. in Italy since tomatoes are not native to Europe); cantaloupe, despite the rind, can have high levels of pathogens like salmonella and should always be washed.
I've gone off track, but have not forgotten nor forsaken "the way". I enjoy your vids, but I enjoy someone like yourself get smarter and admit at times when you were wrong. Keep em' coming; keep refining the knowledge
If you buy organic, regardless of the country it comes from, it will conform to the same or very similar organic standards. If you don't buy organic, you can be exposed to heavy doses of bad chemicals, whether the produce comes from the U.S. or other countries.
There are old men and women who stay alive till they are 100-110 and they smoke cigars and drink alcohol. Then there are people who eat healthy and die early. The super healthy eaters become paranoid and neurotic. I think the key to health and well being and aging long is to combine healthy eating with also having things that give you pleasure. Being too obsessive about healthy foods is a sickness on its own perhaps a worse one.

I've been buying organic produce from Fresh Thyme Market. In the last few weeks every vegetable I've been buying comes from Mexico now. I've learned that the U.S. sells the banned pesticides to Mexico such as Paraquat and DDT. It's very frustrating because I live in MN, which is next to Canada and almost all the produce is from Mexico. Fresh Thyme has Farmers Market in their name and nothing is local. Grrrrrrrr!!!
If you buy Mexican organic produce you can avoid those terrible pesticides. I used to live in Minnesota where the produce is SO expensive. I now live in Texas where it is plentiful and much cheaper. It is possible to get Canadian hydroponic tomatoes all year long, but they can't grow much else in the dead of winter.
@@karelriley2406 At first I thought it was safe if it was organic but it's not thoroughly inspected upon arrival based on what I've heard. It's really difficult to know what to trust. They are attempting this as we speak. If we don't fight this now we are in trouble. Along with the vax in our food they want to stop labeling our food as to what is in it, or what it is such as gmos. We need everyone to use their voice, stand up and say no.....scream no!
Good question. Given the way things are going in this country, with the chemical companies always lobbying for weakened safety rules, we are going to have to be very vigilant. I think mRNA is going to be used more and more for drugs, so that is where we will want to be wary. But it is conceivable that technology could be applied to seeds. As I understand it, washing can remove some residue that sits on the exterior of the produce. However, while the plant is growing, it is taking in those pesticides into the interior, so simply washing the exterior won't get rid of all of it. But certainly it could help. It would depend on the produce of course. Some couldn't be scrubbed of course.

Frozen green beans are awesome. Unlike canned you have to over cook them for them to be mushy.
I noticed you didn't mention mushrooms. I heard in the past to only buy organic mushrooms because they absorb a lot of what is sprayed on them. What is your comment on mushrooms?
I'm curious as well please do a video on mushrooms.
Happy Easter and please have Rose Honey do another one of her epic videos soon 🙏🏼. We miss her !!

When it comes to strawberries absolutely. There's such a difference in taste. They were organic strawberries taste like a real strawberry.
I am allergic to sulfites. Red wine makes me through up after a few hours. Also in Portugal it is forbidden by law to add sugar to wine to increase their alcohol level!
How do you recommend cleaning your produce to best wash off pesticides?
Juice at the grocery store has been processed which is why it has a much longer shelf life(30 + days) than juice from a shop(1-5 days )the processing kills many of the valuable nutrients and benefits of juicing. It will still taste good but the nutrition benefits is why most people juice to begin with.
I knew some of this by researching, but not all. THANK YOU BOBBY for the best information out there! So, most of our organic food that we buy comes from Mexico. Does anyone know if they use the bad pesticides? I bet they do. Wow....I've always thought so. What CAN one eat these days?
I believe the organic produce from Mexico still has to go through independent organic certification processes.
@@karelriley2406 Yes, it has to meet US NOP standards to come into the US.
Relax, you can eat any produce from any store, it's all safe.
Organic farmers spray pesticides including a couple of synthetic ones. The video is outright crap, our produce is safe.
That means we dont know whats really organic or not… sigh
Could you make a video about how you prepare/wash your items after buying them? I know a lot of people use vinegar or baking soda, I'd love to know your favorite methods.
Thank you for all your helpful info! I always try to remember your videos when grocery shopping. Can you do a video about fruits that no longer have seeds like grapes, watermelon, oranges.. it seems impossible to find one that are seeded even at health food stores
I'll have to see if Natural Wines has Moscato. I grew up on spatlese, auslese, and eiswein. Love them.
I wish we lived in a world where nobody would put out howling nonsense videos that scare people.
But that’s really crazy that food is similar to smoking a cigarette slowly over time it will kill you same as nicotine SMDH!!!!! 😢
Love from Canada 🇨🇦, you're my favorite youtuber 😊
The video is nonsense, any produce from any store is safe. Regards.
@@DukeGMOLOL I wish that were so. Unfortunately, there are plenty of solid, empirical research has proven otherwise.

So if the organic has organic pesticides he never addressed what they are or how health effecting they are!? Please Bobby, please address these issues.
Yeah, he's just tossing around with words while he probably doesn't know what it means himself
If you get advice from youtube from an unknown person, that doesn't know you exist, you are completely f up.
@@karelriley2406 Yes, he wants to keep it simple so that he doesn't have to tell the truth about organic.
I pretty much have a rule if I don’t know what an ingredient is or where it comes from, I don’t buy it.
All of our produce is safe, Flav's ranting about pesticides is nonsense.
@@DukeGMOLOL Anyone who lives by your ideology will likely have more health issues much sooner than those who make an effort to eat as clean as possible. There's plenty of information to be found that proves pesticides are extremely harmful, especially those containing glyphosate.

May I put in a request for you to visit the new Amy’s Drive Thru? It’s the same company that makes Amy’s entries sold in the grocery store. Their restaurant ingredients are primarily organic.
Ok disregard the question below. You covered it in the video. Thanks!

Pesticide free
Healthier

Better for the environment
What’s the point of banning certain chemicals here if they’re still going to buy produce from other countries that use those same chemicals?? 😑🤦
If you buy organic, regardless of the country it comes from, it will conform to the same or very similar organic standards. If you don't buy organic, you can be exposed to heavy doses of bad chemicals, whether the produce comes from the U.S. or other countries.
@@karelriley2406 Your claim that "If you don't buy organic, you can be exposed to heavy doses of bad chemicals" is false.

How do we know if a labeled "natural wine" is actually a natural wine? Is there a group overseeing this? Thanks!
You can't. The term natural is not regulated so food manufacturers abuse it to their hearts content. You can make that wine with the bottom of my shoe and can still label it as natural.
That's exactly what I thought!

In some African countries, I know it's true for Uganda and Morocco, the agricultural practices use little or no pesticides or fertilizers. Absolutely fantastic produce. However, the U.S. is pushing them to use genetically modified seeds, like from Monsanto! What an outrage.

Hey Bobby thanks for your help keep up the LORD’S Work 🙏
I've been buying organic produce from Fresh Thyme Market.
At least winter has finally ended. Hopefully local produce will be more abundant now. Yeah, it's very expensive....even when it's from Mexico.

Hey hi, I don’t know where to ask you this question. What about the mushroom coffee that’s out? Did you do a video on that yet. Like Ryze?
How will we know about mRNA in food?
They are attempting this as we speak. If we don't fight this now we are in trouble. Along with the vax in our food they want to stop labeling our food as to what is in it, or what it is such as gmos. I noticed recently walmart carries potatoes without a produce code and no other indication if they are gmo or not.
These bills have to be rejected.
They will do it if it's profitable, and to hell with our health.

Does washing produce vigorously in water/vinegar solution remove most of the pesticide?
As I understand it, washing can remove some residue that sits on the exterior of the produce. However, while the plant is growing, it is taking in those pesticides into the interior, so simply washing the exterior won't get rid of all of it. But certainly it could help. It would depend on the produce of course. Some couldn't be scrubbed of course.
