Thanks for a great video. Wow, I cant believe your ball joint came out with a little tap, probably was bad for a long time and worked itself loose. I spent hours beating on my ball joint with my biggest hammer in the spot where you said. Then I watched a different UA-cam video where he used a pickle fork ( ball joint separator fork tool). My tool was actually too small, and had to bend it so save another trip to the tool store, so make sure you get one that is at least 1" wide between the forks. You just smash it in between and the ball joint pops loose, might have to try different angles, use lots of penetrating fluid, and possibly heat. Definitely make sure you get a control arm with the new front end bushing or buy it separate, because when you are replacing one worn tie rod, might as well replace the other old parts too, and always do steering and suspension parts in pairs because they are the most essential things keeping your family on the road safe. He didn't replace it in this video, but it is only another 5 minutes, and is actually the main reason I had to do this repair, my ball joint was actually fine. Its called the lower control arm forward bushing. Also make sure you check everything else replaced before you go do your alignment, if alignment is affected, such as other steering or suspension parts. Cheers, Luke's Garage.
Hey what's going on at 1:33? It shows the bolt on the left strut tab. Then when he moves and shows the other method to loosen the stab link the bolt is on the other strut tab. I can see by the sticker on the strut coil that it's the same side of the car so what was that? What just happened? You can even see the stab link connected to the left bolt he snaps loose and then in the next shot he loosens a bolt on the other (right side) tab of the strut BUT IT HAS THE STAB LINK ATTACHED TO IT IN THIS SHOT?
I purchased a lower ball joint MOOG K500088 (2X) that allows to much play after I put it on, this one has a castle nut instead of the factory locking nut. I've used a couple of washers as spacers for a temp fix until I can replace it again,
Was wondering because i have a hard time seeing if mines bad but my Stabilizer links have been going bad within a few months ive replaced struts, hubs and cv axles, Stabilizer links keep going bad and clunking. 2015 with just about 100k on it. Will a bad control arm cause your Stabilizer links to go bad?
You can tell if its not looking center, and or you wiggle it aroudn with a pry bar and it moves around to easily and has over 1/8" of play. Theres other videos on here, cross check lower control arm bushing for enclave, acadia, traverse.
Ordered the ball joints from 1A. Got the old ones out (what a pain) and the bolts that came with are a little too big for the old rivet holes. Suggestions?

I purchased me itch funny Control arms and the bushings stick out too far. How do I push them in to fit into the bracket on my vehicle? I tried a c clamp but was unsuccessful. Any ideas on what I should do? Thanks
A1 auto? why exactly would you need to have the car control arm level when tightening the bushing bolts? when I tightened mine, I did with the suspension having no weight of the car on the lower control arm. is there any significant purpose or reason for proper function of the lower control arm by doing that? all I know is is I now have a mysterious clunk or rattle when going down the road. I installed a suspension rebuild kit that came with outer tie rods, new ball joints, stabilizer links, and new struts. I experienced no complications. everything went together nice. but I can't explain the clunk. can you help provide any tips or your thoughts would be appreciated. it's a 2009 gmc acadia. thanks.
When I go to tighten the nut on the ball joint, it just keeps spinning. The stud is spinning too. I see a spot for an allen wrench in it but can't get to it to hold it. Is it supposed to spin like this?
Mine are spinning too. It takes a 6mm allen wrench to hold it but there is not enough space. Looks like I'm going to have to modify one to fit. (they should send one in the package)
I replaced the lower ball joint on my traverse but when I put everything back together, my truck bottomed out. I see the mistake I made, I didn't have the truck level when I tightened the LCA up. Thanks 1A Auto
Dubblesteel hello double steel. what exactly are referring to when you lca? I just installed new struts, outer tie rods, new stabilizer links, new ball joints (used the original lower control arms, bolted on new ball joints to the factory control arms) and now I have a mysterious clunk when hitting bumps going down the road. I have quadruple checked every nut and bolt I touched from the strut mounts to bushing bolts. I too had a castle nut for the ball joint. everything went together great. I don't understand what the clunk could be? possibly a defective strut even though it's new? Can someone please help me? any tips appreciated. thanks.
i need to replace the front bushings for these control arms. i see they bolt to the frame. do you think they can be replaced without removing the control arm?
Russell Vaughan I was wondering the same thing. I have to replace them also. I just bought them from the repair store. Been looking for a video on it but found none.
I'm purchasing a vehicle that has both rear upper control arms loose, rh frontstrut leaking/busted. They insisted it's not something I should be worried about so much and it could be done later on. But I'm not really sure about that. I'm asking for anyone's opinion here. What do you think? Its a 2011 GMC Acadia.
have the replace those before you buy it or you can shop around for prices to replace them yourself also ask to take the vehicle to go get checked out for full diagnostic
+Devin Tolliver This procedure might be different for your application. We do not currently have a how-to video for this particular year, make and model. Thank you for asking! 1AAuto.com
@@1AAuto I got it done today on my equinox. For some reason there is still knocking but sounds like something is loose not broken. I didn't torque the bolts. Just put them back on as they came off so that's probably the problem. I'm going to have another shop look at it tomorrow when I get an alignment. Just to make sure I did it right and torque everything down
+Kenneth Jimenez You may be able to. If you would like to reply back with the year make and model of your vehicle we can send you a link to the replacement ball joints for your vehicle. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
+Chryiat 200 It is a standard procedure when messing with the control is to do a front end alignment mainly for the camber and make sure the degrees are in the green.

It helps when you have a vehicle lift... i dont got a vehicle lift so I cant get the leverage you have.
The slots that in the rear bushing, do they need to be line up when putting the LCA back in.
You should double check the wheel torque. Book says 140ft lbs on those lugs.
Great how Too Vids Thanks 1A

+Jason Tuttle Are they the bolts that slide through the hole, or the bolts that are attached to the A arm and are permanent ?
The are slide through (loose bolts not attached).
+Jason Tuttle You should be able to reuse the original bolts if they are in good shape. 1aauto.com
Bolts are too thick.

How to replace just the front bushing?
+Kevin R. We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1AAuto.com
@@1AAuto Why didnt you do it at the same time! with all that work, not sure you can replace it without taking other stuff apart?
Couldn't you just place the tire on and set it down to tighen up the last 2 bolts on the control arm instead of using a jack?
How would you reach them with the tire in the way!?
Why do you need an alignment?
+Chryiat 200 It is a standard procedure when messing with the control is to do a front end alignment mainly for the camber and make sure the degrees are in the green.
I was waiting for you to wiggle the old ball joint to see how bad was it.
There is almost never a case to replace the whole control arm on these cars. The entire thing in serviceable, bushings and ball joint.
Why would anyone replace the arm but not the bushing?!?
+cutl00senc Thanks for the feedback!
