My favorite heel flap
Favorite heel: slip stitch heel flap and gusset. Can’t stand prym needles but this stitch holder/ needle storage concept looks intriguing.

The non-staggered "eye of partridge" heel stitch is called a "slip stitch" reinforced heel. "Slip stitch" is the name of the actual sitch. The (Sl 1, K 1) pattern is aligned so it looks similar to ribbing. Keep up the fantastic work guys!

Several knitting tutors call it "Heel Stitch."
Which style of doing the toe depends upon the shape of your feet, the length of your toes relative to each other, and the style of shoe, as well as how you walk -- and even where you walk. If the length of your great toe is short compared to the rest of your toes, or if your second toe is the same length as your great toe, or if your toes fan out a lot, Kitchener stitch can be uncomfortable because of rubbing against the tips of your toes. I have a long great toe and short other toes so a Kitchener rubs against the tip of my great toe and the tops of my other toes and is uncomfortable. When I do a toe-up sock for me, I use Turkish cast on. But the thing is, knowing various ways to do things helps you personalize and customize the socks you make -- if you make socks for somebody who pokes the toes out of their socks, Kitchener might be a better option for them. If you make socks for somebody who wears the heels out, then either an afterthought heel (which can be picked out and reworked easily when a hole develops) or else an eye-of-partridge heel might be best. I feel that the more techniques you know, the better able you are to turn out a custom-made sock that will fit comfortably and wear well -- because that's the name of the game!

This pattern ( the eye of the partridge) I use for a sweaters. The neck line, the cuffs and the bottom ribbing. Note: all sts are slipped purl wise). There are 4 rounds. Round1: knit🧶. Round 2 *K1, sl1 wyib* to end. Round3. Knit 🧶 Round 4: *sl1 wyib, k1* to end. This makes a pattern similar to the heel on your socks. This is coming to you all the way from Canada Ontario 🇨🇦👍🏻❤️ 😊

I've looked up other knitting tutorials but yours are the best. Yet to decide which pattern I like best but have knitted quite a few of your socks now with Regia Pairfect yarn. Thank you for introducing me to the eye of partridge heel flap. Love it and will definitely try it on my next pair. My absolute favourite though is the short row heel. I agree that knitwear is elastic but the afterthought heel, for example, does not work on my feet. As for closing the toe cap: I always go for the kitchener stitch not because it's more comfortable but because I prefer the look of it.

Only started knitting socks a few years ago, and then decided that gathering 12 stitches was my way to go and all the many socks I have knitted are welcomed by all.
Children in SA and Taiwan love them and I am hooked.
I knit the stripy heal flap and like it because it is easy and the fabric looks a bit narrower. In the UK have not come across a name and taught myself to knit socks with Ann But's book, steep learning curve 62 and always used English patterns before.

Its a very good video for people that doesn't know how to make a "reinforced heel". I would recommend to remove the colorful background. A single color background will pop up your work and it will be ease to look at it. I never tried this "eye of partridge" before. I'm going to give it a try!!! Thanks so much!
What a beautiful view you gave us! The ridged heel is known to me as a slip stitch heel, and is my favorite. I always do a heel flap, as I have a high instep, and after thought, and short row heels leave the sock to tight to get my foot in. It’s that heel to top of foot angle that makes it hard to fit a sock without a heel flap. Also, the heel flap socks never slide down into my shoes, but the kind of heels do, and I think that is because a heel flap with slip stitch or eye do partridge tends to pull in a bit, and fit very nicely on a more narrow heel.
I always have used a Kitchener stitched toe. I liked how you can’t tell there is a seam. And because I am one of those sensitive people who hates seams and bumpy things near my toes. Purchased socks were hard to find without a seam at the toe section, and was the reason I started knitting socks, especially for hiking, and because I found it hard to find nice warm comfortable wool socks for a while there. Now there are some awesome purchasable socks, but they usually have such tight bands at the leg. There is nothing so perfect as a lovely pair of hand knit socks!
Ps, I love how the Prym needles lock together!

I have never seen anyone knit like that before, it looks super quick, interesting and worth having a try, maybe I will drop the crochet hook 😁 The heel stitch is really nice, creates a lovely delicate pattern 🤔 I can only think straight repetitive patterns when knitting no body shaping, I have not even tried that with crochet. I have just learned that Eye of the Partridge is a stitch. Not a heel. The stitch can be done straight or alternated. Either way its still Eye of the Partridge stitch. And my favorite heel is the FLK heel. And my next pair of socks I will use the Partridge stitch with that heel. Learn something new every day and Im 81 years young. Been knitting since age 6. My mum taught me. I am in the USA🇺🇸🌹

I do like the heal flap. It isn't the heel that is the problem with fit it is at the Achilles tendon. It forms better right "behind" the heel.

I'm so lucky to still have socks that she made me, and whenever I wear them it's like a hug from her. ❤️ I don't really have a 'go-to' heel yet, but I suppose the Afterthought is my fave. Although, I think the spiral sock is going to be my preferred knitted sock. (thanks once again for the pattern!) They're all good, and I use them all. 😍 When I crochet socks, my heel is a variation of the flap.

I like to knit eye of partridge top down and toe up. It can be done. When using your pairfect, it’s top down one at a time, otherwise I tend to go toe up two at a time. Reinforced heel flap and gusset either way for better fit.

@@ARNECARLOS I watched the video again and, to me at least, I think my turned heel is a bit easier. I do a few things differently than this video that make it easier and I din’t have to do the picking up of all the heel stitches and picking out the waste yarn and then dealing with weaving in the ends. I love all of your videos. If I’m not working, there’s a good chance I have knitting needles in my hands. For me, socks are great for knitting in the dark while I watch movies in the dark.

I love Judys magic cast on for the toe and the fleegle heel. I’m trying to your figure out how to reinforce the heel. I just saw a video where you turn the sock inside out and pick up the purl bumps with a tapestry needle with the yarn you used. They skipped every other bump and alternated in the next row.
I know the other heel you mentioned is reinforced heel. Great video. I will try heel of partridge next

What a great give-away! I have 4 ideas for the circular needles.
First idea is to knit a few "lumps of coal" (filled with stuffing) for Christmas stockings and to attach to ribbon on gifts and garlands. Second idea is to knit a St. Nick (Father Christmas) sack to keep near the tree. Third idea is to knit a baby "snuggie" or "cozy" for a friend's baby born 2 weeks ago. That baby would be a big stocking stuffer! Finally, how about a red and white "where's Waldo scarf and hat?. . . . What about an Arne & Carlos Christmas dress for a little girl turning 1 years old in December!

I like the eye of partridge heel flap because it is an attractive finish but I am convinced that the « ribbed effect » heel flap is stronger. I may be wrong.

I am knitting my 1st Pairfect design line sock. I am at the color change that tells me to start the heel. Did you knit a few rounds in the heel color before you started the eye of partridge heel?....or did you just start the heel when the heel color came up? I thought when you did the short row heel you had done 2 rounds in the heel color then did short row heel
Also I started knitting socks because I can feel the seam in the toes. I no longer purchase socks from the store because I can't stand the toe seam. As a child I used to cut the toe part off because I couldn't stand it. I got in trouble for cutting my socks. Now I only wear hand knit socks.

Of all the sock heel methods I’ve tried, I like the Fleegle heel the best just because it’s fun to knit (I prefer making toe up socks). Fortunately the various methods don’t differ much for me fit-wise.

The other type of stitch to make a heel that does not stagger the knit 1, slip one pattern is often referred to as simply "heel stitch".

I like to use a heel flap and gusset as I have a high instep and find the short row heel doesn’t give me enough room. I do knit my socks toe up and use a heel flap as I think the finish is neater. Instead of knitting a flap then picking up stitches and turning the heel I do it in the opposite direction, gusset increases, turn heel then heel flap and decreases done at the same time.

Don't know if you will get this, but I learned how to knit within the last year using your videos. I like the Norwegian style because I have been crocheting for 50 years and having the yarn on my left hand is familiar. Anyway, I'm having problems with the purl. I can do it, but is so much looser than my knit stitches. I can't seem to tighten them us. Any pointers? They are so loose that when I slip my first stitch of the row, I get a HUGE LOOP! HELP!
