    I’ve searched dozens of videos to clarify the process of picking up gusset stitches and I’ve FINALLY found the only one I’ll need going forward 🎉

      Thank you! Dope, its so clean I am obsessed now that I can do it. My mom mentioned she still has trouble picking up sometimes, so I'm gonna make another short video in some really light variegated yarn where it's easy to see. I'm so happy the demo helped, cheers to knitting!

    I have read people say to pick up the extra stitch when picking up the gusset, but I have never seen it so clearly demonstrated. Thank you! I came for the garter edge. Well done.

    Wow this is a game-changer! I’ve always hated picking up the stitches along the gusset but this way is so much easier to see. I can’t wait to try this on my next pair of socks!

    This is outstanding and you’re the only one I’ve seen do this on an actual sock with fingering weight yarn!!!! Everyone else uses worsted. I wanted to see the method on the tiny little stitches we get with fine yarn. Absolutely superb!! I’ve subscribed and liked and will be looking for patterns. ❤❤❤

    Great video - there are so few people who show the important steps. There's a Shetland knitting way to deal with the "extra" stitch to pick uip, which picks up the same two legs that you are doing, but then passes one of the legs over the other (which way depends on the side you are working on and the lean of the decreases you wish to follow on the relevant side of the sock) to create a new "stitch", which you then knit into. They use this for closing up stitches around fingers/thumbs in gloves etc, but it works the same for socks. It amounts pretty much to the same thing in the end. I've learnt the Shetland method but I'd recommend yours as perhaps a little easier for anyone who has been struggling with closing up the potential gap.

      The brand is called Distracted by Yarn. It's the shop yarn sold at my lys called Cabled Fiber and Yarn (you can find them online). It's expensive but has held up well and has these really nice colors. Thank you I'm glad the video is tolerable and you like the pattern! Thanks to the Hermione sock pattern for incorporating the nice heel too.

    Thank you so much for this video! it is super helpful, and I will apply it starting in my second sock. I just have 2 questions I'm dying to know the answers to: 1) what is your pattern / the stitch pattern of the sock called? 2) What type of yarn are you using?
    They both look gorgeous and so comfortable!

    • @fiddlespun
      @fiddlespun  6 місяців тому

      The pattern is a free one, the Hermione socks. The yarn is called Distracted by Yarn and it's from my local yarn store, but I think they sell it online. They're called Cabled Fiber and Yarn. The yarn is actually really nice, its 380 yards and has 8 plies in the yarn. It makes super squishy socks that last a long time, without them being too thick like a dk sock.

    I hope this is not the only video you will do. Can you do this for toe up socks also?

    • @fiddlespun
      @fiddlespun  Рік тому

      I plan to make another soon about continuing the slip stitch pattern onto the heel turn for a double thick fabric. Then fingerless gloves. I have no experience with toe up socks yet, but maybe in the future. I would think that you can add a garter edge on the toe up heel flap.

    • @fiddlespun
      @fiddlespun  Рік тому +1

      I haven't tried toe up socks yet. I'm sure you can include the garter edge on the heel flap. I'm not sure about the "picking up stitches" or the equivalent on toe up socks.

    What about the garter edge do you like? Why is this your “go-to”? I have only done shadow wrap until this pair that I am on. I was told to slip the first stitch in each flap row.

    • @fiddlespun
      @fiddlespun  7 місяців тому +2

      Mostly to keep track of how many rows I have done. It's super easy to count the garter ridges, and know when I've made 16. It's especially handy for the partridge slip stitch pattern where you have to keep track of even or odd rows.
      I like the look too, it adds a little detail on a vanilla sock. And if your yarn is variegated, it's fun to see it worked into a different texture stitch.
