g metz ur making it too complicated. You don’t need to think about intake size vs outlet size to approximate a desired temperature. You just need a 6 inch or better outlet with the same or better sized inlet. You control temperature with a fan that has a built in thermostat or just use an inline thermostat to control your exhaust fan.
Thanks. Could you please inform me if a grow tent generally increase the humidity of the room outside of it. I mean for example if I put the tent in the conservatory of my house, then would the conservatory be filled with humidity that tent has made? Because the exhaust fan etc are working obviously.
I want to set my tent up near a basement window to vent the smell outside , one thing I’m very curious is will I have problems with the air coming back in being too cold ( pretty cold in Illinois still) and as it gets warmer will that warm air be coming back into my tent?
The amount of air you suck out of your house is equivalent to the amount of air that comes back in from the outside cumulatively Through every window frame and crevice and door. To put that in perspective it would be like putting a fan on your windowsill and blowing the air in from the outside. But unless your house is very small and your furnace does not work well you likely will not notice. It likely would just increase your heating bill a little bit.
Carbon filters have a pre-filter that goes on the outside of them to filter dust. If you force air from the inside out then you don’t filter the dust and you will clog up your carbon sooner. However you decide to do it, you want to be pulling air out of your tent and not pushing it in. In other words your tent needs to have the walls being sucked inward while the fan is in use.
Hi I accidentally(stupidly) put my hand in the Aluminium outlet of my fan to insert an ONA BLOCK inside but it blocked the airflow for a small time 2-3 seconds max and it made the fan sound louder for that period of time . Now I think that the fan has got Louder while operating . is this the result of a quick outlet blockage or that blockage won't affect the fan function at all ?I would like to know if its only in my head or the fan can get damaged/louder if the outlet is blocked for couple of seconds ? Thank You for considering my question
Very helpful video explaining everything. I have a 108x48x80 to keep my tropicals (mango tree, miracle berry) in and also try growing greens in a tower garden. I have a few other random plants in there - it's pretty full. I have 2x 1000 LED grow lights and just picked up 4 Barina 42W T8 grow lights for the Tower Garden. I have 1 mini fan in there and the humidity is very high 86%. I understand from your video that I could purchase 6" AC Infinity Inline to extract the air out. Would this be all I need, do I need to bring air in also?? I am having a very hard time trying to figure out all the things I need. I am currently watching all your videos to learn. Thank you so much.
Extracting air brings in the air. And that’s a pretty large space. If there is an 8 inch version it might be better to use that to run at lower speeds but 6 should be OK. It doesn’t need to run very fast speeds unless the temperature climbs up. The more heat build up the more air and movement you need. You’ll need to tailor it to your conditions.
I want to go with passive intake for my tent but still want to filter the incoming air, can i just run a duct thru a port connected to a filter? Im exhausting with an 6" ac infinity
Hi, I have a 2x4 grow tent indoors. If I have a circulating fan, do I need a ventilation system for my tent? If I don't will it smell during last phase? Thanks man
These days with the use of very efficient LEDs, there is no need for high airflow. High airflow in the past was for heat extraction from inefficient HID lights. These days it’s mainly for air exchange and humidity control. No need for fast fans or large ducts
I am new to grow tents. My tent is 60x60x80. I will be growing and overwintering vegetables and propagating various vegetable seeds etc. I am not growing any "stinky" plants. I have a little fan, but do I need exhaust fans and carbon filters etc. ?
Thanks for this video, short and sweet. However I have one more question. I bought both types of fan, (the small one, Igot two and the other with the carbon filter). At this moment I am running with the small because I hve only one plant about 3-4 weeks old (I am not planning to grow more than 3 before a while). My question is, am I better already using my carbon filter/fan before the flowering stage or using only my 4 inch inline fan or combining my 2 other fan (one from WM, the other Honeywell turbo fan)? I will add, there is almost no smell outside the tent for now and the way you put the small fan on the top of the tent looks like it can provide sufficient air flow.Thank you.
I'll put my real question here. I am trying to get closer to a full self-managed grow tent's temp/hum control. Do I have to buy a heater and a humidificateur AND a cooling system plus a deshumidificateur OR I can use fans to do both lower temp and humidity level by using fans as air flow kind of like vaccum to drain the extra heat and moisture out?
I have a question. I recently created a grow tent from scratch, using gigantic 4ft cardboard boxes and diamond reflective mylar film to line them, and it's a pretty well constructed house for my hot pepper plants and 4ft t5 grow light/stand. My question is, where should I created a hole in this tent for ventilation? I will be buying a cheap little fan to do this, but where exactly should I have this, on the top side of this tent, the side, where? Thanks :-)
Is a duct fan gonna SUCK all the air & moisture out of that room? (That sucks all the cigarette smoke out of a room?) I used to have something installed in an old room I used to rent that was a grow room before I moved in the wood floor was all wavy & messed up - damaged from the grow room but the cool part was this light switch I could flick up that would somehow suck all the cigarettes smoke out of the room through some silver laundry dryer hose looking thing that went straight outside. And my landlord never once in all that year said or knew anything about me smoking cigarettes in my room. What WAS that thing?
I bought one of those a while back, I dont think they offer a fan without a controller yet do they? Doesn't make sense to pay for a second controller I won't use.
What about controlling humidity for a sensitive home? I have often heard about classic built homes made of drywall/woodStructure developing mushrooms & humidity damage from hydoponics? Just a in-tent humidifier ?
Health Mind & More not sure I understand what you mean. I have a few tents venting in my basement all the time and never see humidify over 60%. But my basement is waterproofed so having a dry environment to start with helps. If you need to add humidity, it should never have to be much with hydro because the roots are always pumping moisture to the leaves. That’s a circumstantial question.
@@GrowingAnswers Thanks. There are many big water basins required for kratky, dwc or ebb and i can only imagine these water masses have a high evaporation level specially during summer season and i don't want to damage the house. Been searching & so far i guess it can only add a dehumidifier & humidity measuring devices in a air locked tent. Have U hear about maybe earth-ponics?/air stones directly in the earth plus a wicking system at bottom ...
The mushroom/humidity damage is a myth to strengthen the drug war folklore. Even with a huge flood and drain system, Kratky tubs all over, a RDWC system and whatever else you can think of growing in a basement with, your RH won’t be a concern unless you live somewhere that already has high humidity. Then you’d just run a dehumidifier to keep it at where you want it.
Tom Bryant that’s not true. High humidity in a grow tent growing something like cucumbers would lead to powdery mildew an mold pretty quick. I gotten mold before on tomato plants on the lower leaves where they were visibly moist compared to the upper leaves. It’s because my airflow was too low and I needed to prune.
@@GrowingAnswers But do I have a vent open somewhere else that pulls in fresh air? Or do I just have a small oscillating fan inside and the inline exhaust fan with filter pulling out air? Seems like if you pull/exhaust air out, that you have to replace new fresh air inside.
If I have an 8 foot long, 6 foot tall and 4 feet depth grow tent in a room, do I need a big fan and vent setup or can I get away with the small cheapo fans? I have tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuces, and will have a zucchini plant in that tent.
Jennifer it all depends on how much is in it. 6 inch inline fan would be fine, but the flow rate depends on the humidity. You need a humidity gauge and then adjust the flow rate to keep the humidity from rising too high. It’s a matter of dialing it in for your situation. 80% humidity is ok for seedlings, but some adults plants don’t like it that high. Plants like tomatoes and cucumbers can get diseases or mildew easier with higher humidity.
Can someone answer me this . Is it better to have 2 exhaust fans or 1 with the equivalent cfm3? I’m considering buying either 2 at 1400cfm each or 1 at 2800cfm , I wanted just the one but realised it would be much heavier to install but then I started wondering if I had 2 they Would possibly fight against each other?
I use my closet , and I am proud of the smell so I don't use carbon filters , vent into my attic , just seal up good and cover w a thick blanket to keep dark.
Great video. My tent is 2x4x5. I’ve got a 280 cfm 4 inch inline fan, but in the lowest setting ( it goes 0 to 100 per cent). My tent is in a closet and I duct aiming to vent out the crack in the closet but I’m worried enough fresh air won’t come in when the closet doors are closed. Or will it draw in with the air vacuum created
CpnStbn12 just put your hand where the air would be drawn in and see if there is any air moving. The exhaust needs to be sealed so that it’s not just blowing around the room.
Thanks for the Info! A quick question for you, for a 10x10x6'11 grow tent I am using 12 250watt LED's - would a S10 (Airflow: 1201 CFM) be an adequate amount of airflow ?
Andrew S 3000 watts of light? I imagine that’s a lot of heat. Ur exchanging the air in the room roughly every 30 seconds. So yes I would say that’s more than enough flow.
@@GrowingAnswers Okay ! Thanks for the response! I must have something wrong in my calculation for CFM then. I was told 10x10x6'11 would be 690 CFM and each LED light would add roughly 7% along with the carbon air filter adding 25% of total. So (690 CFM x 48% ) + (25%) = to about 1275 CFM So for the LED lights is it just 7% of total not 7% for each light ?
@@andrux6308 You said ur fan was 1201 cfm. Im not doing exact calculations. Its just a rough figure. If you have that kind of setup it sounds like you already know what ur doing though. If you have LED then most of your heat will accumulate it the top. So if you have exhaust at the top of the tent and inlets at the bottom, you should have no problem removing heat. I would go as far as to say you only need half that CFM. as far as plants go i dont think they even need the air to be fully exchanged once a minute. So sounds like ur good either way.

i want to start growing a small amount of weed in a growtent in my room or my closet, but it is extremely hard for me to have the duct going outside my window or any other way of getting the air outside my room. So my question is if i buy a carbon filter and a strong fan is it possible to get rid of the smell without duct hanging out of my window, and if so how big of a tent would you recommend for this kind of setup
I can’t say I condone growing weed for the sake of many reasons, but I can approach the question as with any plant. Carbon filters will remove around 90% of smells. But you need fresh air no matter what. So just an internal circulation with no air exiting the tent will be recipe for failure. A small 2x2 is find for closet spaces.
@@GrowingAnswers i think i might not have made myself clear. I get that you need air to go in and outside the tent and i intend on doing so but i can't get the air out of the tent outside my house (so i would get the air through a carbon filter and than sucked into my room)and i want to know if that is an issue with a smaller setup. Ty for the help

It is weird to watch beginners video, without any directions about how long do you keep ventilation running at which speed. Practically I already knew everything is said in video, that's why I was searching video about Ventilation to gather some information. And it seem everybody makes videos without any specific guide
What Ever you search for videos for info that you already know?? Lol. I think there is a lot of info here in this video and it’s all on topic. One just needs to assume you leave the fan running 24/7. Would someone turn of an aquarium filtration system every day?? No. People who really need every single detail spelled out for them should not bother invest. There’s a certain sense of common understanding people should be responsible for. And if they don’t have it, they can learn from mistakes. I didn’t grow up with UA-cam and watching videos feeling like I’m entitled to information. I learned by doing. I shouldn’t see anyone of adult age googling how to jumpstart a car, but I have seen it. It’s sad.
@@GrowingAnswers "One just needs to assume you leave the fan running 24/7." I can only assume that I need air circulation. Not how much and when. It is like telling people they need them Lights to grow plants, and not being specific. I think everybody can assume those basic things Lights, Air, Fertilization etc. but not specifics. I wish I could phone call someone who knows the right way. Do you help people over the phone sir?
Hi
I accidentally(stupidly) put my hand in the Aluminium outlet of my fan to insert an ONA BLOCK inside but it blocked the airflow for a small time 2-3 seconds max and it made the fan sound louder for that period of time . Now I think that the fan has got Louder while operating . is this the result of a quick outlet blockage or that blockage won't affect the fan function at all ?I would like to know if its only in my head or the fan can get damaged/louder if the outlet is blocked for couple of seconds ?
Thank You for considering my question
shahrestoon Some fans will increase speed when airflow becomes restricted to maintain flow rate.
Growing Answers that’s exactly the reason it got louder during blockage but can it damage the fan? Or im just paranoid? Its a prima klima 2 speed fan
shahrestoon doubt it.
for the grow tent that uses a fan on the top instead of ducting, would inline fan work better than regular cheap fan?
Air speed could improve. Not sure if that’s really necessary though.
Scott Holmes yes
@@GrowingAnswers awesome! thanks for the quick reply.
Hi, I have a 2x4 grow tent indoors. If I have a circulating fan, do I need a ventilation system for my tent? If I don't will it smell during last phase? Thanks man
tighten up . Use 3 fans. 1 intake, 1 vent to out gas. Inside the tent an oscillating fan.
@@cataclysmic911 ok purchased an inline duct fan. Are the 3 fans still needed. I now use the inline and small fan in tent
Should I use a 4 inch incline duct fan instead of a 6 inch fo 3 plants because it's sucking to much air
These days with the use of very efficient LEDs, there is no need for high airflow. High airflow in the past was for heat extraction from inefficient HID lights. These days it’s mainly for air exchange and humidity control. No need for fast fans or large ducts
Question I thought humidity matterd because plants need them
@@AlbertoGonzalez-hz3kg I’m a tent it can build too high and cause mildew and mold. Also reduces transpiration in plants
It is also worthwhile talking about air in versus air out and why
So nice for somebody to explain how stuff works
Can you return the air back into the tent?
Pay extra get the quite fan. No one gets suspicious. If you leave a noisy fan running it isn't take Columbo to work out what your doing.
Columbo?!?!?! 😂🤣 u are absolutely correct!!
I am new to grow tents. My tent is 60x60x80. I will be growing and overwintering vegetables and propagating various vegetable seeds etc. I am not growing any "stinky" plants. I have a little fan, but do I need exhaust fans and carbon filters etc. ?
Just exhaust
@@GrowingAnswers thank you
Dumb question: if you set this on top of your grow tent, the air direction markings should be pointing up/outside the grow tent right?
J RAN 85 yes
I'm ordering a duct fan but i can only afford one should i have it as exhaust or intake i have a small fan to use for the other but I wasnt sure
Exhaust
@@GrowingAnswers alright thank you for the quick response and video
Your don’t need a filter until flower.
Gus Parovsky what kind of light are you usein?
@@ChinnyRusso Vipaspectra 300W LED.
Gus Parovsky great!! Thanks for the quick reply.
Thanks :-)

Can I just have a fan inside the tent and have the ducts slightly open or something?
No not really.
So how do the plants get fresh hair exactly ? I kinda got lost haha from the outside of the tent
I bought 1 a ac infinity 6in last month, and my tent is 4x2x5. Do I need a carbon filter 🤔?
Is a duct fan gonna SUCK all the air & moisture out of that room? (That sucks all the cigarette smoke out of a room?)
I used to have something installed in an old room I used to rent that was a grow room before I moved in the wood floor was all wavy & messed up - damaged from the grow room but the cool part was this light switch I could flick up that would somehow suck all the cigarettes smoke out of the room through some silver laundry dryer hose looking thing that went straight outside.
And my landlord never once in all that year said or knew anything about me smoking cigarettes in my room.
What WAS that thing?
Great info ! Thank u , it saved me from spending alot of money and honestly my first grow would NEVER HAVE. Been so damn successful
This helped my boyfriend a lot
Health Mind & More humidity will mainly come from the plant leaves, not evaporation. Doesn’t matter whether it’s soil or hydro.
I understand the exhaust part, and with the filters to mask smell. But, what about getting fresh air into a tent and still masking odors?
Filter goes inside tent
@@GrowingAnswers But do I have a vent open somewhere else that pulls in fresh air? Or do I just have a small oscillating fan inside and the inline exhaust fan with filter pulling out air? Seems like if you pull/exhaust air out, that you have to replace new fresh air inside.
@@The-D-Hoyt You will need to allow air in somehow. Usually near the bottom.
That inline fan is a beast i have a 8in
So if you don't care about the smell, can you just put the inline fan on top of the tent without ducting it??
@@danieldavis8007 yes
Can someone answer me this . Is it better to have 2 exhaust fans or 1 with the equivalent cfm3? I’m considering buying either 2 at 1400cfm each or 1 at 2800cfm , I wanted just the one but realised it would be much heavier to install but then I started wondering if I had 2 they Would possibly fight against each other?
If you only have one and it goes down you may be in trouble.
What fan do you recommend for air circulation? can you share a link?
Any cheap Walmart fan. People think you need powerful wind. That’s not true. Any amount of circulation with a small fan is fine for small spaces.
Pro tip! If you have an old computer lying around, get the case fans out of it. They make excellent fans for grow tents!
Correct, I have 4 of them (120mm, 50 cfm), daisy chain, with a single 12V and 1.5A power supply for all 4.
I just tested and with the tent door open the par drops by 50
I have a 1m squared room would I get away with the most low budget air flow setup ??
Hunter x Ninja x Super sure
I appreciate your video, thank you!
I use my closet , and I am proud of the smell so I don't use carbon filters , vent into my attic , just seal up good and cover w a thick blanket to keep dark.
Just make sure you don't end up with long-term humidity issues in your attic! vent the attic too.
So (690 CFM x 48% ) + (25%) = to about 1275 CFM
So for the LED lights is it just 7% of total not 7% for each light ?
@@andrux6308 You said ur fan was 1201 cfm. Im not doing exact calculations. Its just a rough figure. If you have that kind of setup it sounds like you already know what ur doing though. If you have LED then most of your heat will accumulate it the top. So if you have exhaust at the top of the tent and inlets at the bottom, you should have no problem removing heat. I would go as far as to say you only need half that CFM. as far as plants go i dont think they even need the air to be fully exchanged once a minute. So sounds like ur good either way.
Great analogy

Cord still has the zip ties on it 😂😂

i want to start growing a small amount of weed in a growtent in my room or my closet, but it is extremely hard for me to have the duct going outside my window or any other way of getting the air outside my room.
