A do agree with you Gary about using a fan that's too big but if you have speed control you can turn it way down and you can get longer life and if you upgrade you can use it in a bigger set up down the line as someone progresses cuz I use a 6in in a 2 by 4 but I run it under 50 percent all the time and I made a diy kit to keep my tent walls from sucking in and it also holds my trellis net super tight in place hehehehehe

Been watching your videos for a few weeks now. Always nice to see other people's build ideas. It is great that you have great product knowledge, but your best asset is that you explain the steps and reasons why you choose the parts you do. A true salesman. You my friend have a gift. Keep it up. Would love to visit one day.

Little tip to keep things easier and cleaner looking, just attach your fan straight on to your filter with a flange or collar. If you have neither strong gorilla tape works just as well. Iv done this with rvk’s/isomaxs/hyperfans/tornado boxfans all sizes from 6-12 inch works fine, no cutting or messing with ducting just one clean straight run😁

Its actually not recommended to attach inline fans directly to a carbon filter. The vibrations from the fan can cause the carbon to settle on the bottom of the filter and then can cause air pockets in your carbon making the filter less effective and possibly clog faster.

Just found your channel today. Love your videos. All good info, especially the attention to symmetry and precision. I've seen so many garbage setups with junk everywhere, random things in the room, off-center lights, open water buckets, etc. One thing I think is important to remember, especially with systems using lots of water: electricity ABOVE, water BELOW. That's another mistake I've seen: random wires all over the place. That's just asking for disaster because there are two types of growers: those who have had a leak, and those who will. Keep up the great work!!

this is what I am talking abou by far one of the best videos/tutorials out period there leaves no set up questions to be asked!!! I usually don't hit like and I don't leave comments. way to go way to educate. I do have to ask couldn't you have used say a 6x12 carbon filter in a setup as long as it way rated for amount of air you want to move correct? ex: 5x9x10 tent 6x12 filter 450cfm rated 35cfm fan

Hello and thanks for the compliments! Usually 6 inch filter are at least 16 inches long, and 4 inch filters come in the 12 inch length but if they do make a 12 inch then it should be set up to run with a 6 inch fan. Thanks for the comment! Gary

If you put the fan on the outside of the tent pushing air in it creates positive air pressure instead of negative air pressure inside the tent. PAP is better for the plants and slightly expands the walls of the tent instead of compressing them inwards giving you more space. You just slap the carbon filter on your exhaust port as normal it works great. Also not having the fan inside the tent obviously makes more room in the tent where the fan previously would have been. Give it a try you wont be disappointed!

A few years ago, I built a 3x4 box without knowing what I was doing. I got three 300 watt equivalent LED panels, a carbon filter and inline fan. There was an exhaust line for an old central vac system so I arranged it so the fan blows into the filter which is held in a box with sliding door access. The box is connected to the exhaust line and filtered air is pushed up the exhaust and out of my house. It works but it's not very efficient. I was worried that the carbon filter wouldn't remove all the skunk smell. Anyway - I'm mostly a dirt pot guy and although I've grown in it, usually the box is just to start my seedlings and dry my herb in the fall. After watching your clip, I think I'll rework the filter!

13:53 , You mention here about someone wanting to get a fan bigger than you need and it sucking in the walls of the tent.... That could be a big positive though if you are concerned about smell, since putting the tent in a negative pressure environment would force any air escaping the tent to be passed through the carbon filter and not leak out through zippers, etc.

This tutorial is helpful for any new grower but if the goal of this video is to demonstrate the most effective methods for removing the smell of cannabis from a grow tent, then a few key points have been overlooked.
The relationship between the fan and carbon filter cannot be overstated and the path used in this video: carbon filter > ducting > fan > wall > ducting, creates the opportunity for non-filtered air to be evacuated through gaps in the "seals" around the carbon filter and fan, as well as any damaged spots in the ducting.
This issue can be addressed in a number of ways but here's a simple tip: attaching the fan DIRECTLY to the carbon filter drastically reduces the chances of exhausting non-filtered air. Fan type will dictate fan:filter orientation but those using mixed flow/centrifugal, try this path: ducting (optional) > wall > fan > carbon filter.
This path effectively mitigates the seals problem, it drastically reduces fan noise, ensures carbon-dust isn't sprayed all over your space (assuming dust filter attached to the outside of the carbon filter), and requires fewer materials like ducting, tape, and hose clamps.
DM me and I'll help you make an updated version!

Hey bud, I do get what you are saying but I have had a good number of people void there warranties on there fans by drilling holes to direct mount there fan to the filters, you can tape up the seams and do fine and we always ship premium double layered ducting to avoid tears. @@PAHydroponics As long as fan vibrations are stabilized relative to the filter, any method you'd like. Since you asked, the key isn't to think about "attaching" the two as much as thinking of them as one unit. A handy DIY connection built from a steel fan and DIY refillable filter was the most novel I've seen.
But, my point was less about fans and warranties and more about grow room smells. At least that's how I interpreted this video.

Great stuff Gary! Very informative. Do you use an intake fan at all for fresh air? Or do you find leaving the vents open is enough? Thanks, keep the great videos coming!

No intake fan is used. Using an extra length of ducting often works well too.

PS: odors are not an issue for me. Any other reasons I should use a filte?

odors are the main reason people use carbon filters, if that is not a concern then as you stated, it will not be necessary.

wanted to see just how easy your vent hose went on, and now I know. with my system I could not get the vent hose to fit on to the fan, I gave up, looking for a larger vent hose that will fit. paid good money for a lost cause.

Thank you, video was awesome straight to the point and dummy proof. Can the in-line fan be placed outside the tent instead? Thank you

    I just bought this combo.
I'm doing just 2 in my bathroom downstairs. I'm not too worried about anything but cooling down the lamp. I'm ole school, 1kwatt hps . Has glass. So sealed.
I'm gonna try to run this through the light, I know I'll have to run 24/7, but, what I'm trying. So, filter, into light, into fan, out to another room, possibly out side. Hoping for the best. I will eventually separate the light from filter.
    Maybe
