- In this video, I share the process, chemicals and tools used for a full paint correction package on this Ford Mustang. The goal: Removing as many imperfections as we can...while removing as little clear coat as possible. Paint correction can involve wet sanding, machine polishing and even hand polishing in some areas. Let's get to work!

Christ! Was that a hodge podge of depth and gloss readings or what? I honestly couldn't tell what the make of the car was at first, due to the ground effects, etc..
It really turned out great! Good to see the rotor being used. FTW!
I personally think that bodykit and black/red paint job makes this car look horrendously tacky but each to their own.

Those results were off the hook. Beautiful work. I totally agree with the rotary for a job like this because it makes cutting a breeze. I would’ve loved to have seen the customer do a ceramic coating to lock those results in but I know everybody is working on a budget.
Super job guys! I enjoyed watching a car come in with ‘real life’ conditions (unknown depth of clear, swirls, scratching etc). What a difference.

Great job Brain nice video ! Just one question . What did you use after you used Sonax Cut & Polish ? What formula would you recommend to remove any minor residue left on the paint from the Rotary polisher ? I did the same process you did in the video but with a Lake Country yellow foam pad followed up by the Black pad to finish polishing with Sonax Cut & Polish . Then finally a Turtle Wax Graphene Infused finish spray to seal . Turned out great .
I ask my customers to prewash for me if possible. Don’t know if that makes me smart, lazy or efficient but I’m never afraid to ask them and it certainly speeds up the detail.
It would be a respectful thing for the customer to do.

Wow good video Brian. I thought based on what the camera was picking up, your first combo would have been sufficient step 1 in a 2 step. I was surprised you had to break out the microfiber.
That's one busy looking car, lots one items to polish around. I would definitely increase my base price or do it hourly if repainted. These jobs can really be a pita and come back to bite you if you don't do some homework and use care.

Watching this video and trying to get motivated to detail my 2018 Mustang GT. It’s also black.
Repainted correction cost me a driver side door clear coat. Luckily it was my own truck. But it looks horrible now. I had the truck repainted in 2005, only a month after I picked it up from the Ford Dealership straight off the delivery car carrier. A deer ran into the driver side door!
Yes...with little info on the job...there is risk.
The shop manager approved of most of the work done to perfect the Mustang. The only negative criticism is that hearing protection was not used during the polishing/correction process!!!

Interesting car. When customer picked up, did you give owner instructions on after care? At first glance, car looked pretty darn beat up when dropped off. And I'm no professional! Cool transformation.

So did the body shop hit it with 1500 grit and just stop? I wouldn't have left the shop until they fixed it if my car looked that bad

Depends on the shop but around 1-2K for just the correction…that was some bad paint work.

How much of a paint correction can you really get with a cordless? I'm sorry I just don't think it's worth the time to try with a cordless, shine yes, but correction? And trust me your my go to guy and I'm a loyal follower but I just don't see this being worth the time,

Did you rinse the car before the foam?
Thats a couple of hours with 2 people right? One cutting and one following polishing up? Looks great. But see what you say about some stuff left behind..
Not knowing if there was enough clear to de-nib and wet sand...they remained.
What paint depth meter do you use? And why that one?
What did you protect it with?

What was the rotory combo used?
Cut & Finish + Rotary + LC Wool pad.
In reality, many of the “clearcoat thickness risks” associated to resprayed cars, are over-blown.
Even on crappy respray jobs, you will not puncture/rupture the clearcoat with a 4ply twisted wool pad + rotary UNLESS the rotary was wrongly used by an unskilled person. With a DA, there are no issues with any non-foam pads.
The real headache is to spend the time to cut away/level any excessive shrunk orange peel that created a dull dim look. The customer wants it to look glossy.
Can the customer afford it?
Using only a DA would be arduously slow.
Another genuinely huge risk is the detailer who loves to mask the areas on entire vehicle before commencing work. Dangerous. On improperly resprayed non-metal parts such as spoilers, handles etc, pulling of masking tape that been sitting there for hours or the whole day or overnight might create issues, which would be blamed onto the detailer.
Hence, on resprayed vehicles, IMO…clearcoat thickness is not an issue, unless one is planning to perform wetsanding on areas that hv been previously wetsanded and compounded.
What depth gauge are you using 🤔
This one is a cheap Nicety from Amazon. Works well however.
And what was the cost ? Something no one talks about.

Not few hours doing it 1 man. Between washing and doing all the steps plust correction could be 2 days being a 1 man show
One man = 6 hr.
