I believe the traditional way to roll it is length-wise, that way it’s longer and you can cut about 1/3 off at an angle to reattach along the side to mimic a branch. You can easily get away with adding half the cake mix to achieve a thinner cake that is easier to fill & roll. One reason it’s made with so many eggs is because the regular recipe doesn’t have any lifting agents (baking soda/powder), achieving a sturdy but thinner cake. This version is a great cake for anyone intimidated by baking but wants to make something impressive! ☺️
This was the first time I ever saw one of Your videos. I did give You a like and Subscribed. These are so Awesome. When I was a Young 20 something I used the fork method. I am much older now and have learned to use a piping bag so I can do that but when my hands are hurting the old way still works.
Yesss...BUT yo need to make it the 'hard way' at least once in your life. Seriously. The old way includes the meringue mushrooms and it IS homemade so that makes it extra special.
Nice! But I was looking forward to seeing your version of the meringue 'mushrooms' that are usually on the classic version of the cake! Well, since it's almost Christmas Day and I'm still cooking, I'll go with your embellishments, "all that I have". TY for the nice shortcut of this classic holiday dessert!!
For Christmas, my mother always made a cake roll with peppermint ice cream for the filling. Then served with a little hot fudge sauce. A family tradition that endures today.
In my day, we used a wet, squeezed out, lint, free kitchen towel, put it on the cake immediately as soon as it came out of the oven, then put another pan on top and flipped it. Damp paper towel kept it from cracking, and it rolled up much nicer.
I’ve made many pumpkin rolls so I’m used to roll cakes. This looks great! Your demonstration is easy to follow. The only thing I would change is I would make the filling with heavy cream and powdered sugar. Not of fan of the marshmallow fluff! 😅
Yes my kinda work, easy and simple. Thank you so much for this. Following your directions today to try my first yule log. I wanna fix one for Christmas so I figured I'd do a test and go ahead make one now.
My son needed a cake roll for school and of course told me the night before he needed it so I looked on you tube and found your recipe with a cake mix and let me just say THANKS SO MUCH!! You walked me through this and I did it:) ❤❤ Thumbs up and subscribed have a Merry Christmas!
Wow Marcy you're wonderful in the kitchen. You make it seem so effortless and simple. I am learning so much from you, please don't stop ❤. I love all your recipes.
I made your recipe with homemade Hershey icing. The cake baked up beautifully. The filling was so messy haha😮 but it all came together and is absolutely delicious! Thank you for posting
I am getting ready to buy a KitchenAid... and was considering the Professional... but I noticed you have the Heavy Duty!!! Do you know what is the difference?
Cake looks wonderful and your presentation is easy to listen to, but I had a problem with the music. I subscribed to your channel and I will look at your other videos. Kudos!
The extra eggs give the cake a little more structure so it holds together when rolling. If you happen to try it with just 3 eggs, let me know how it holds up. I’d be curious to know. Thanks for watching!😊
I make mine from scratch wrap mine up in parchment paper do one every year don't use box cake mix make my own buttercream itlasts longer then if you do it with fresh cream
No. Before the Yule log cake became popular it was common among pagans to burn a Yule log for 12 days. They did this during the winter solstice in honor for Spring to come back.
“Trust me, Yule be able to make it.” Very nice.
Ha! Thanks for getting my corny joke.

My hands hurt too much to use the frosting tube. Glad to know about the fork alternative.
This cake is seriously beautiful! Thanks for showing us how easy this actually is to do.
It's really a fun one to make, too. Any imperfections get covered up in frosting!
Beautiful!! I make pumpkin rolls like this but I’m definitely going to add this to my table this year!! Thank you !!
@@lindasprunk5164 Nice! I only made my first pumpkin roll last year and I loved it! Now, I'm not intimidated to make rolled cakes like I was before.
Yesss...BUT yo need to make it the 'hard way' at least once in your life. Seriously. The old way includes the meringue mushrooms and it IS homemade so that makes it extra special.
Thank you for this recipe 🎉👍🏻🎄
Wow! That Yule Log came out perfect! Looks so Christmassy & Delicious!

That's so cool, when I was a kid I begged for this! I loved the knots I was half expecting you to make a little squirrel coming out of it! Great job!
Ha! I thought about making a little hedgehog because I've been seeing them on Instagram, but I wanted to keep it simple.
Nice puppy in the background. You know its gonna be good❤
EXCELLENT VIDEO... BEAUTIFUL
This looks so fun to make! I love boxed Devils Food cake, very nice Christmas treat to make.
Yes! I hope you try it. The only difference is all the eggs that go into that boxed cake mix.
For Christmas, my mother always made a cake roll with peppermint ice cream for the filling. Then served with a little hot fudge sauce. A family tradition that endures today.
Exactly how my mom made it
In my day, we used a wet, squeezed out, lint, free kitchen towel, put it on the cake immediately as soon as it came out of the oven, then put another pan on top and flipped it. Damp paper towel kept it from cracking, and it rolled up much nicer.

I want to try to make this for Christmas it looks pretty and yummy
OH YES 😄. I'd be happy to have one of those slices of the baker's treat 😘. Put the coffee on, Marcy, I'll be right over 🥰
I really would have loved to have shared those baker’s snacks with you. I feel like I know you. 🥰
Hi Marcy, again thank you for sharing another winner. I’ll be making your snowball cookies.
Happy to hear that. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
This is exactly what I was looking for this year!

That's so smart to make a practice one! It will give you the confidence to make a showpiece come Christmas. Thanks for watching!
Awesome 👏

Hi Marcy I’m making it now thank you so much for this easy delicious recipe
Hope it turned out for you. One of my sisters made this yesterday and hers turned out beautiful.
I don't even like chocolate cake but ma'am that is beautiful 😍😍😍 I would try it anyway lol
Wow! You’ll need lots of patience and four tubes of icing at this rate! Nice looking final cake!!
You made it look so easy. I love THIS cake , so pretty at Christmas. I have never made one, I just think I will do it. Thanks !
I’m impressed. You’re good. 🎄😊
Just tried this for the season and it's so good!! VERY messy hahaha but very good. Thank you for this easy way to make a yule cake!
Wow Marcy you're wonderful in the kitchen. You make it seem so effortless and simple. I am learning so much from you, please don't stop ❤. I love all your recipes.
You're so sweet. Thank you for watching!
My husband's birthday is 2days after Christmas. Quess what his cake will be! Thanks
I made your recipe with homemade Hershey icing. The cake baked up beautifully. The filling was so messy haha😮 but it all came together and is absolutely delicious! Thank you for posting
Looks delicious!😋
This looks amazing! Can't wait to try and make this ! Thank you for sharing this ❣️ 🥰 ❤️
Oh my word! This looks AMAZING! I can’t wait to try this one! Thank you so much for sharing! 🎄👍🏼
Thanks! I had fun with this one. It's very impressive looking, but surprisingly easy.
Looks fab
Impressive!
What temperature would work best for a gas oven? Mine bakes, and cooks food faster
if you use your mixer for the frosting its creamy I added crushed pepermint to the filling yummmm
I LOVE the idea of crushed peppermint in the filling! That's genius!
Can you make it a day ahead of time?
Are you making any special treats for Christmas? Let me know in the comments.
Ok I'm gonna try to make a yule log following your tips. Oh no good luck to me
Can you make this Christmas Yule cake 1 day in advance?
Can I use a hand mixer??
Yes, you can.
I was wondering if you could use the Marshmallow fluff instead of Creme as we can’t buy it here? Is so would you use the amount with the cool whip?
I am getting ready to buy a KitchenAid... and was considering the Professional... but I noticed you have the Heavy Duty!!!
Do you know what is the difference?
Could you do a yule log with cake from scratch?
Cake looks wonderful and your presentation is easy to listen to, but I had a problem with the music. I subscribed to your channel and I will look at your other videos. Kudos!
Thanks so much for subscribing. Let me know what the issue was with the music so I'll know if it's something that needs to be fixed on our end.
It's Christmas time!!!🌲🌲🌲
I will attempt to do this Yule log for Christmas 2023...let you know how it turned out. 😉
Hope it came out well. I'm planning to make it this Christmas. How many servings did you get if you remember? Thank you!
Yummy😊
Thanks for watching! Merry Christmas!
Could you use butter instead of oil?
I have a question. The cake mix says 3 eggs. Why do we add 3 more eggs?
The extra eggs give the cake a little more structure so it holds together when rolling. If you happen to try it with just 3 eggs, let me know how it holds up. I’d be curious to know. Thanks for watching!😊
I put so much icing sugar and the towel was like glued to my cake.r.i.p my cake dreams lmao qwq
Can the marshmallow be omitted?
Just roll it up in the parchment your baked it on, works just fine.
I CAN HARDLY WAIT°!😅
👌👍
I live in Australia, never heard of marshmallow fluff.
P.S. I LOVE the little tunes you put on the video 😊🎶
Thanks!
I sprinkle the powder sugar on top of the cake then put the towel over it and flip it. Then sprinkle powder sugar on the bottom and roll it up.
hello what size pan
❤❤❤
Why do you use six eggs?
I'm wondering also, is she using 2 boxes?
The extra eggs help the cake roll without cracking
@@dreabling85just like you stated in video 🤦♀️ ❤
I always have trouble with the rolling. Or perhaps my baking. It never rolls correctly.
What tip NUMBER did you use? Thank you
I make mine from scratch wrap mine up in parchment paper do one every year don't use box cake mix make my own buttercream itlasts longer then if you do it with fresh cream
I love this ❤ 🪵
Is this what jesus had for a birthday cake?
No. Before the Yule log cake became popular it was common among pagans to burn a Yule log for 12 days. They did this during the winter solstice in honor for Spring to come back.
You really didn't think out this video. Did You?..lol
This tastes too much like egg!!!!
