Another 80s country lady you would no doubt enjoy is Terri Gibbs "Somebody's Knockin'." She has a deep, bluesy voice and plays a mean piano. Hopefully she'll make a Female Friday appearance soon.

Gotta check out Crystal Gayle... She is the OTHER "Coal Miners Daughter"... It runs in the family... Crystal was given advise to "Never sing anything I would sing, because everyone will be comparing us"... That older sister was the legend herself... Loretta Lynn...Crystals signature song is "Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue'''... She did pretty well for herself in the '80s too, with many hits to her name as well... And yes, Loretta and Crystal both shared the same coal miner father... Same mother too....

I have been waiting for this one! I didn't understand it as a kid. As I grew older, I realized just how clever the lyrics are! I don't know why, maybe because it's a 1 name singer, but Charlene - I've Never Been To Me, is just reminding me of this song. They're nothing alike, but it's making me think of it anyway. I've Never Been to Me, I'd have to give the nudge to, Charlene. They both remind me of 1 hit wonders. Maybe Sylvia was super popular on the country charts, with this song crossing over to the pop charts, thus me never hearing more. Sylvia is originally from Kokomo, Indiana. I have friends that went to school with her. They said she was very quiet and they were surprised when she became successful.

There's also a soul singer named Sylvia who had a big hit in 1973 called Pillow Talk-a pre-cursor to Donna summer's Love To Love You Baby. She was also a part of the duo Mickey & sylvia with their late 50s hit Love Is Strange.

I had forgotten this song and that the singer went by just the first name Sylvia. There was another singer who went by just the first name Sylvia (Sylvia Vanderpool). She had two hits: the first in 1957 ("Love is Strange") as half of the duet Mickey & Sylvia; the second was I believe in 1973 ("Pillow Talk") as a solo artist.

Wow, I had completely forgotten about Sylvia. She was so pretty, I always had a bit of a crush on her. Nobody was her only really big hit. She had a few other songs that were in the top 10 on the country charts, but I don't think I would say she was a huge country star. She did get some country awards, mostly for Nobody and the year she released it at the CMT awards. But she does still perform even today and put out some albums on her own company record label.

I've been waiting for so long for you to get around to Sylvia. One of the best of the late '70's - '80's country - pop artists. You simply will not find a smoother voice anywhere. She also sings with great emotion. A great rabbit hole to go down. "where In The World" , twenty years after " Nobody", but just as silky smooth. Like time has stood still where her voice is concerned. She is one of my all time favorite singers.

When I was 9 or 10 I had her full LP and every song on it was great and catchy. You're probably thinking, why would a kid that young be listening to a record with adult topics? Well, most kids listened to just about everything back then. If we were young enough a lot of the topics went over our heads and we just liked the way the sound sounded or the beat. This was in 1980 or 1981. Don't worry so much about what your kids are exposed to, because most of the time how you perceive it is not how your child perceives it. They won't understand what it's about until their much older. We played a song in my marching band called: Smoke on the Water but didn't get it was about smoking pot until later in life, but bringing attention to subject matter is a sure-fire way to expose them to the thing you're trying to protect them from.

This song was Sylvia's one and only country-crossover hit in the early 1980s. Not only that this song went all the way to hit #1 on the Billboard Country chart. The song also peaked at the #15 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 as well during the fall of 1982. This song is about a woman's husband might be cheating on her. Kind of a song that Taylor Swift could sing about today.

I remember because I was involved in building the float for the homecoming parade and a friend of mine named Debbie Cadbar. The float was being built at her house in her huge backyard... when Rock the Casbah came on the radio I remember her mother coming out and dancing she was a wonderful lady
