    This is the best bleeding/flushing video I have ever seen. I did this for the first time in my wife’s car last year and had questions mid way I found myself search for, you answer them all in this.

    Always remove as much old fluid as possible from the master cylinder reservoir before adding clean fluid. Makes the flush much faster.

    Sorry. I noticed I made a mistake when I said I was “starting with the front right”. I was at the front left, actually. I clarified this soon after, but thought I’d throw a comment in here.

    Oh boy, my experience with that motive bleeder has been hell.
    First it was leaking at the gauge. Had to figure out how to create a tight seal since tightening it more did nothing and it nearly sheered the back nut.
    Then once I fixed that leak, it held consistent pressure. Once I put the fluid in and pumped it up to 30 psi, not 2 min into checking if all is good, it busts the line off the cap and it's spraying brake fluid all over everything. Had to get some hose clamps and wash the car on jack stands immediately to hopefully mitigate any damage to my paint..
    Finally got it done. But it was a multi parts store and large cleanup endeavor.

      lmao damn man that sucks. Next time don't put fluid in just pressurize with air and add fluid when the level starts to get low in the MC. Much less messy.

      15psi is the max recommended pressure for bleeding the brakes with the motive. After doing a corner pump it back up to 15.

    • @Drinksfromtap
      @Drinksfromtap 7 місяців тому

      @@xDoyle514 the VW service manual specifically says to use 29 psi and the motive manual says not to go over 20 psi “unless specified by your service manual.” So for this car 29 is the right number and consistent with both VW requires and Motive allows.

      Read my description of the same in response to someone else's comment that you have to pressurize to 30psi. I too sprung a leak. What a fricking mess!

    There are 2 VCDS BASIC SETTINGS in regard to this procedure.
    1. Brake bleed
    2. Fill/bleed brake system
    Are those irrelevant ?

    After a lot of research, the mk7 GTI / Golf R require the 30psi to flush the ABS system... there is no VAGCOM/OBELEVEN procedure required.... that was for older mk6 I believe. You will see some procedures referencing using a coder to get the ABS system to cycle itself. MK7 just forces the fluid through the system with a higher pressure.

      I "attempted" to bleed my brakes today using the Motive Pressure bleeder. It was pretty much a fiasco. Referencing other videos I initially only pumped up the bleeder to 20psi. I got practically zero flow coming out of the bleed screw. Pumped to 25psi and then got a bit more flow but overall very weak. Went to 30psi and catastrophe struck. The hose coming out of the pressure tank to the master cylinder sprung a leak and started shooting brake fluid every where. There was no quick way to relieve pressure. Other bleeders I've seen have a pressure relief valve. Would of been useful in this situation. I sprayed most of a liter of brake fluid all over the engine bay, windshield, and front fender. Pretty much ruined my day. I aborted this procedure and went to the pump and hold technique with my girl friends assistance. That didn't really move much fluid either. Didn't really get much flow until I started the engine and continued the pump and hold. Never got around to doing the rear wheels. Admittedly the hose coming out of the pressure bleeder was many years old (it was PVC instead of silicon) and was the main reason it sprung a leak. I find it interesting that as you stated you have to pressurize the system up to 30psi. Do you think that can cause any secondary damage at that pressure?

      @@georgecummings7559 @EVERYTHINGcpo I'm about to do this on a 2021 Golf (Base, 1.4T) with the Motive bleeder and this 30 psi issue has me concerned. What year/model Golf do you have? Anything you know now that would be helpful for me to know?

    • @georgecummings7559

      @@sfr1302 I have a 2017 GTI. To continue my story, I repaired the pressure bleeder by putting on a new hose between the bleeder and the master cylinder cap. Went on to bleeding my rear brakes pressurizing the system at 30psi. No issues, everything worked and I got a slow flow of brake fluid out of the bleeders. Make sure you follow the recommended order of left front, right front, left rear, right rear. Also 1 liter of fluid is the absolute minimum to pump through the system. I highly recommend you have a 2nd liter handy in case it is needed.

    • @georgecummings7559
      @georgecummings7559 Місяць тому

      @@Jonathan-qc1ff Yes ... as brake fluid flowed out of the bleeder, the pressure would drop slightly, so I would have to continue to pump it up a couple of times for each wheel.

      I found it in the Chilton repair manual (free at many libraries). I was confused about the bleed order because most vehicles start with the caliper furthest from the master, but the VWs start with front left, which is closest.

      It is not necessary for all 4 wheels to be off the ground for this, you can do 1 wheel at a time. But you do want the car level to be sure you don't have too much or too little brake fluid in the reservoir.
