Awesome video, thank you for sharing! I have seen other method by removing the lower control arm (at the bushing ends) which is a nightmare to do on a rusty vehicle. Your method is much better. Cheers!
Any chance of a list of the parts you bought to replace the suspension with? I'm in the market soon to replace mine and like those that you had in the video.
We are in Portugal, so very difficult to find the rear shocks here - we ended up getting from Autodoc (who are a bit 💩 to be honest ) depending where you are, there will be better places to find I suspect - the front is torsion bar, so we got (not shown here) all parts from the Merc dealer, as vin number specific - the shocks were an ebay special, but again, you need to check as ours is LHD. Rears make sure you get the ones pre fitted with springs, unless you have a sophisticated spring compressor. The Autodoc shocks we bought are no longer on the site, sorry the link I tested came up to a dead page. If doing the fronts change the bearing bushing for the torsion bar, peanuts in cost save a ball ache when they wear out www.ebay.com/itm/274051519850
I have 2001 model 270 cdi. And its almost impossible to reach the three nuts on the top. How do i do it?I have to replace a broken spring (and absorber) on aft left side.
Its a tough one - we soaked for two days in a penetrating fluid, spraying in every couple of hours, then just used a spanner and a lot of patience and scraped knuckles.
We got them from Autodoc - really just because we are in Portugal and access to spare parts is very limited here (Autodc 50% of the time send the wrong or defective parts, so no recommendation from us :)
I have just done this job on mine. I used a hydraulic press for the springs & it was easy 🤷♂️🤔 I’m glad I never watched your video first, unnecessary drama.
The issue is put 300kg in the boot and the rear wheel carrier hanging from the chassis and the springs are useless...nearly on the bump stop so the plan is full adjustable shockers but no one manufactures them...nightmare!!
A remarkable and astute observation, we had a comment last week on the resent stuff, I never speak, cannot please everyone then 🤓- but as I am talking (well factually writing as a bell might point out), fuck you 🤣 - bugger me till I bleed old sone - guzzle my load and spray my face ...
Live and learn, Mercedes told us the springs cannot be fitted to a 163 (after we tried - plus people sell them to confuse the thicko's like us) then need to be factory fitted, so hence thats what we bought - we now have a full on spring compressor 👍🏼 but professionals, we are not !

Where did you buy the rear struts from?
We got them from Autodoc - really just because we are in Portugal and access to spare parts is very limited here (Autodc 50% of the time send the wrong or defective parts, so no recommendation from us :)
Evening gent's. Good to see the smutty innuendos have made a comeback.
We need to up our game !
Which leght did you use aftermarket rear springs?
We just used a direct stock replacement ( ebay I think) have looked for the link, sorry cannot trace it.

We fancied an air ride, but Portuguese law and all that, kills most car tinkering :(
Let him talk old fella.

Thats pretty dumb on that rear springs, you need a proper spring compressor like we use on Toyota Hilux N,70 coil overs ..

Conveniently, you didn’t show how to get the top three bolts out. 👎🏻
@@jameskoch3662 Conveniently they are just 3 nuts you turn with a spanner. Didn’t realise that needed an explanation. Whoops 🔧 👍
