    If there's one downside to the Movi Pro, it's that we can't lug it around with us into coffee shops or throw it in a backpack when we travel. Naturally, we thougth the Crane 2 with its 7lb payload would be the solution, but a C100 Mark II just won't balance with the way the Crane ships out of the box. Watch what we did to get it to balance perfectly.

    Thanks for the info guys. I put a C100 Mark II with a 16-35mm lens onto a Zhiyun Crane 2 last week and it worked perfectly thanks to your hack!

    I admire your dedication to the C100.
    Most people would have picked up an a6500 or similar but the c100 really does have such a great image and features.

      PHILM we really LOVE the C100 - especially the II. We couldn’t go back to a DSLR or mirrorless after it but the C200 is a little overkill for us, so we’re really hoping there’s a mark iii in the works.

      Interesting to see you say that about the C200. Yes you guys with your C100ii constantly make me think twice about my A7sII but I deal with low light scenarios often.
      Looking forward to more videos from you guys, particularly ones that show more BTS of your wedding days.

      I agree - many people just look at specs, but the C100ii is a real video camera with ergonomics to match, and that's much more important when out in the field... Although I do use hydrid cameras for gimbal work and slomo > 60fps.

    Good tips and excellent footage - I've just bought a used Crane 2 after using one at work for a couple years. Obviously many choices on gimbals these days, but he Crane 2 is a proven workhorse with great battery life - I've only used it once or twice with the C100 (we did it without the hardware moves in your video). So many great mirrorless cameras on the market that produce excellent B footage - hardly necessary to go to the hassle of a heavy gimbal camera anymore.

    Thanks! I was able to make this work with the C100 (The OG, Mark 1). I'm still gonna get the official plate for it though but now I know it'll work well with that camera.

      @@KeigoMoriyama Yes! I actually purchased it a few weeks ago and it works very well. The size of the camera obviously obstructs some of the motion options that would be done easily with a smaller camera but for basic motion and following shots it works perfectly.

    This is my next and first cinema camera! I've been using the Canon 60d dslr now for 8 years! This will be a major upgrade for me! Was considering the C300 till I saw the price lol, this is just as good though and a lot more affordable! Thanks for this video!

    I'm sure 100 people have already asked this, but I would really love a peek into your image quality workflow--both your picture profiles in camera, and how you deal with color in post. You've really got the C100 dialed-in nicely! Love you channel too, and congrats on the engagement!

      Bob Drummond thanks! It’s something we’re asked all the time and while we might be doing a c100 settings video in the future, we’re looking into whether color grading is better offered as a workshop or 1 on 1 training because of how intensive a subject. We’ll definitely make an announcement when we decide how to tackle it 👍

    theoretically is a smaller camera easier to balance, I'm going to buy a Canon 6D MKII and a Canon 24mm F1.4 lens for the Crane 2 but wasn't sure if I should get a 80D instead. PS I did come across someone using the Crane 2 with the 80D and did notice micro jitters on the footage he showed me, it did seem to take a while to balance as well.

    Hey. This video has been a gamechanger for me! Just got the Crane 2 for my C100 mk II. BUT the viewfinder on my c100 doesn't allow for full range-of-motion with the Crane 2. Did you guys encounter this too? How do you cope? I'm thinking of removing it entirely. ALSO--Did the follow focus feature work for you? Zhiyun markets this as compatible with Canon cameras but I've found even after the firmware update (1.72) my C100 is unresponsive :'(

    • @outsideinstudio
      @outsideinstudio  6 років тому +1

      Alayna Lim hey there, while we find it does limit movement on the tilt axis, we find it’s only on the extreme end of the tilt, allowing for a good enough range of motion still (just make sure you have it in the up position, otherwise you’re really limiting yourself!). It’s an issue we had on the Movi M5 and only now on the Movi Pro do we have full motion with a Mark II. As for FF, we haven’t even tried it as it’s not listed on the supported cameras, but the C100 has DPAF so it’d be kind of redundant (albeit nice to toggle it from the crane itself). Hope that helps!

    You might of stated it I’m not sure! Anyway, I’m so close to buying a c100 soon. I’ve used rental ones hundreds of times but how do you adjust stuff like ISO and Aperture without the side grip? I know about assigning aperture with other buttons but what about the ISO as well as that?
    Is there any other solutions apart from assigning the buttons?
    Cheers and good video!

    • @outsideinstudio
      @outsideinstudio  5 років тому +1

      dompiscopofilms hey there, for professional applications, we always shoot on the Movi Pro with the side grip mounted on the ring so we can easily adjust ISO etc. On the Crane, we’ve been shooting with the C100 Mark II which has the joystick below the LCD on the back for easy adjustments, but we’ve only been using this combo for travel and vlogging. The only way to easily change ISO, WB or shutter on the C100 Mark I is to reassign the play, stop, skip and rew and ff buttons on the back to up, down, left, right and set. Hope that helps!

    • @dompiscopo
      @dompiscopo 5 років тому +1

      Outside In Studio thank you! I’ll probably look into buying the mk2 just a bit simpler and the lcd gives the extra hand with the tilt on it.
