    Anything that’s over or under where the exposure needs to be is over or underexposed. What’s outside the waveform is clipped or crushed. And metering for the highlights means to protect them over the shadows and letting the he shadows go where they might. Giving the sensor as much light as possible is metering for the shadows. You still have to protect your highlights with digital though.

      Thanks for watching, Matthew! In our case, when the original C100 was released, it was the perfect mix of features and ergonomics. Nowadays, we're heavily invested in Canon and it just makes sense to keep on that route - it's also an ecosystem we know inside out. Blackmagic makes some great cameras, but they're not very practical for weddings; Sony has amazing features but we're not eager to shoot on DSLRs again (which was what we were shooting on before the C100) or give up on the Canon look and skin tones we love so much. So Canon, for us, remains a no-brainer.

      Hey, do you work with the correct video standard? I live in Europe so I use PAL and therefore I shoot in 25/50 fps, otherwise the artificial lights will flicker. Maybe you only have to adjust your SD to the right video standard, depending on where you live. That's the only reason I could think of.

    • @outsideinstudio
      @outsideinstudio  2 роки тому

      Hey there, it depends on the lights you're using. Certain led lights will create a strobe effect. The trick is to adjust your shutter speed until it disappears.

    Any idea on why certain clips I put in the timeline will flicker bright to dark? It’s not from a light source. It does it on playback. However when I play that same clip in windows media player it has no flickering and is totally fine. The flickering is even reflected in the scopes.

    Good video, you get a very nice look on your wedding films. I am filming weddings currently with the EOSR but have been looking at the C100 mark ii for dual recording, video features etc etc. Could I ask, my main worry in switching to the C100 mark ii video camera is the no stabilisation in the camera thing, and as I shoot with fast primes like the 50mm f1.2 was wondering how that would look? The EOSR has digital IS which helps out a little, but having non I am worried my footage would be too shaky, how do you get around this? Also, I notice the C100 mark ii has a very low bitrate, yet the footage looks amazing? How does it compare to the EOSR in your opinion? Thanks in advance for your help. Keep up the good work. Julian. @@FrankyEames We definitely still prefer the colors and codec on the C100 to the EOS-R (but we also haven't shot 10-bit externally on it). Matching it can be easy or hard on a case by case basis - at times, we've found it helpful to apply Canon's Log to BT709 Wide Dr LUT before applying our own color - other times, it's been easier to start from scratch. We find it has a pretty green cast, so we've wb shifted it in camera to M2. We think the next EOS R is going to be the game-changer 🤞

    This is a very talented guy, but like many others in this industry doesn´t seem very williing to share his real "secrets" with his audience. • @outsideinstudio
      @outsideinstudio  3 роки тому +6

      Hi Alejo, thanks for watching and for your kind words. There's so much that goes into filmmaking that I have to disagree with you that our grade and our grade alone is what really makes an impact on the viewer. Our shooting + editing (heck, even more specifically or gimbal work) are what usually gets commented on the most. That being said, we don't use a specific LUT - we grade our footage ourselves. Anyone that thinks that LUTs are the miracle cure to bad-looking footage are shooting themselves on the foot because there's no drag and drop solution to great colour and we work extensively on each and every shot in our films. The tips in the video are key to achieving beautiful footage because no amount of colour grading or LUT will fix a badly overexposed shot or ill-balanced frame. That being said, there's no secret here - me and my wife have (up until very recently) sold our own LUT. It's also not a lack of willingness to share as much as the lack of time to do so - we run our studio full-time and we're not looking to become UA-cam famous, educating is just a fun project to take on when we get a chance and to properly take on colour grading, we'd need an extensive workshop, not a 5 minute video. Hope that helps!

    • @alejomontoya9420
      @alejomontoya9420 3 роки тому +1

      @@outsideinstudio Thank you so much for your answer. I´m not saying that LUTs are a miracle to cure bad looking footage. Of course you need to be aware of the camera and light settings in order to achieve good images. But it is clear that you use LUTs to help you get the beautiful results that we can see in your videos.
      That is the one tip you forgot to mention and I think it is a key factor.
      Your films have a great distintic look, and I really wanted to know the LUTs you use in order to get at least a little bit close to the quality you display. I guess that is what most all of your followers, including me, wish for.
