The batteries you showed in the video are actually C200 & C300 Mk II batteries (bp-a30 & bp-a60). The C100 Mk II takes bp-950 / 970 type batteries and the smaller battery can give you 4 hours + and the arger one 6-7hours + on a single charge.
I've owned a C 100 mk ii for a few years and have shot many documentaries, corporate videos, and web commercials with it. It is an awesome camera for these types of projects. The camera never lets me down. One documentary project did, I wished I was shooting on a RED. Until the reality on sooting run and gun, I was sooo glad I was using my C 100 mk ii mainly because of the built in ND filters. Every camera has a purpose. For my work the Canon C 100 mk ii or C 300 mk ii fit the bill. Love my C 100 mk ii!
@@atdavidlee Yes. Many great cameras out there! But...each has certain reasons for their choice. I'd definitely use a RED, on the right job. Or ARRI, or Sony..etc.. Thanks for chiming in!
The C100ii won't do RAW on it's own, but the HDMI out is 4:2:2, so if you have an external recorder (such as an Atmos Ninja) you can get RAW or ProRes 4:2:2. There's a guy on UA-cam who does a comparison of graded ProRes in 4:2:2 on a C100 and compressed AVCHD. You have to pixel peep to notice any different at all in only limited circumstances (ie. slight advantage for ProRes with colors and reduced motion blur). The AVCHD actually performed BETTER than ProRes for static shots, background shadows, and noise @ high ISO. This is pretty amazing considering the file sizes are a fraction of ProRes 4:2:2 or ProRes HQ (which was the best all around, but huge files!).....not to mention RAW or ProRes in 4k! The C100 is really an amazing camera, even in 2019 up against the likes of the GH5, A7iii and Blackmagic Pocket 4k. Also, "who's" (who is, as in, "Who is the c100 for?") not "whose" (possessive form of who, as in, "Whose C100 is this?")
The C100 doesn’t do RAW at all so please be mindful of your research, it does do 8 Bit 422 for sure. And yes the title isn’t grammatically correct but you’d be surprised what the top ranking keyword search results are.....
@@atdavidlee Yes, you are correct. I thought the external recorder would allow it to record uncompressed RAW. I guess ProRes HQ is the next best thing.
It’s still good enough for a lot of applications and especially for event filmmakers or no budget narratives and docs. The sensor itself is battle tested and upscaling the footage to a 2.5K timeline and in some cases a UHD timeline can provide great results!
@@atdavidlee Yeah if you forget the bulletpoints and numbers and just compare the actual footage in different circumstances and practical features, the C100 mkii still comes out the clear winner, even in 2019. I was considering the Blackmagic Pocket 4k, GH5 and A7iii, all of which have amazing specs on paper, but where the rubber meets the road in image quality and pro features just couldn't compete with the C100 IMHO. Even for low light, the A7iii is technically "better" but it has a terrible blue hue and doesn't handle noise as well. The C100 makes up for lost ground by looking better @ higher ISO's. If you don't absolutely need 4k for Blu Ray or something (most end consumers end up down sampling anyway) and you're cool with 60fps, the C100 mkii is a no brainer for video, nearly 5 years after it's release, which is just crazy! It's a classic for sure!
Yes 💯!!! I will say although I dislike Canons direction with their non pro model cameras their EOS Cinema line has been battle tested from feature films to Netflix and Sundance docs. The sensor is good enough and you know the camera is reliable haha

I just bought this camera in late March 2019 with the current price drop to $3k - I used one for years at work and it's just such a solid. reliable camera with such great image quality that I decided to get one myself. I've shot enough video with my DSLRs and I have a lot of Canon glass that I really wanted to get a legit video camera instead of carrying on with even a mirrorsless DSLR.. The C100 footage is super sharp and grades remarkable well too. So many reasons to like this proven camera. I know it will serve me, even without 4K.
It’s certainly one of the best cameras for the price that covers a wide spectrum of work. Not every job requires 4K as well so it’s another feature that may or may not be necessary 👍
I have the C100 mark II and honestly about the 4k missing it's not a big deal, the image is so sharp that if you upscale it to 4k it will still look amazing
That I do agree with, there are some things as far as detail compared to other 4K images that the C100 loses out on BUT what it loses in a native 4K image it wins back with ergonomics, reliability, form factor, internal NDs and XLRs and ease of use 👍
atdavidlee It was a tough decision, but I was tired of waiting for the next great thing, or when I could afford 4K - I looked hard at the shooting I do and for my work I know this camera will serve me even in 2019
I’ve got a C100 mk ii and absolutely love it. I use it for all types of shoots, including wedding videography. Sure... 4K would be nice, but not a deal breaker at all.
Good Looking out. I have been pulling my hair out about this or a C200. I'm a photographer ( that used to work in news) so I just want to hop back out shoot stock and my own personal docs. This si exactly what the doctor ordered!

Hey Dominiek! Thanks for the question! Whenever I use the C100 I tend use C-Log, anytime I can maximize dynamic range I will and how I “upscale footage” is just creating a 2.5 timeline/sequence that’s 2560 x 1440 and then resizing the clips to fit the frame. Hope that helps 🙏

When a client wants 4K, simply add the cost of renting a 4K camera to the shoot. It's not necessary to carry the personal expense of a 4K cam, especially with so many offerings. That way, you can shoot with the best camera afforded by the budget. No one doesn't hire a DP because they don't own a particular camera.

I’m not, nor will I ever be a paid videographer. I want to make better videos as a personal goal. To that end I’m looking to upgrade my Canon G40 but I’m torn between the xf405 and the c100mii. Mostly I run & gun travel & nature type videos. Which camera do you think would work better for me? I’m leaning toward the xf405 and it’s dynamic image stability, 4K, 120fps in 1080 & all that but the c100m2’s downsampled 1080p image is outstanding. Also I’m concerned that I might be giving up to much by going with a fixed lens camera again. Any help appreciated!!
If you’re filming wildlife a lot then 120fps is really nice to have. If you’re doing more verite filming of travel spots I think either is fine. Have you thought about smaller cameras like a GH5/A7III?
atdavidlee thanks for the help! Yes, I’ve considered another dslr or mirrorless camera, I’m trying to get away from that & go with a camera that’s meant for video. Really like and have enjoyed using the G40.
It depends if you’re okay having to carry extra gear. Batteries for the recorder, SSDs for the recorder, HDMI cable for it etc. For documentary style shoots or events it’s nice but not needed. If you do more in studio or narrative type work I’d get it
Definitely consider it. If you’re mostly on a tripod or monopod I can see it helping but if you do a combination of hand held and gimbal I think it would eat into your time

I think the XF405 will feel more at home for you then. You don’t have to take the time to learn the C100 MKII 👍
Hi! I think GH5s and 12-100 4.0 are very good for your travels.
@@atdavidlee The learning curve is not that steep on the C100MkII
Picked up my 1st C100 II last year. Considering a Recording Monitor and don't know if it's worth it. Have any insight on that?
It depends if you’re okay having to carry extra gear. Batteries for the recorder, SSDs for the recorder, HDMI cable for it etc. For documentary style shoots or events it’s nice but not needed. If you do more in studio or narrative type work I’d get it
Thanks for the reply@@atdavidlee . mainly shoot weddings . . . so I don't know. Guess I will give it some thought.
Definitely consider it. If you’re mostly on a tripod or monopod I can see it helping but if you do a combination of hand held and gimbal I think it would eat into your time
@@atdavidlee Ohh, good point. Thanks again!
No problem Ed!
Did you turn the sharpness and noise reduction down in camera. Did you add any more in post
It depends if you’re using CLOG or Wide DR, but I normally use CLOG with this camera and depending on the shot I’ll add sharpness and grain if needed
@@atdavidlee makes sense, thank you.
I've the camera for cheaper around 1,800 -2000
Who’s
