I can still remember to this day these songs playing in the background of sonic R when I was 9 years old. To be honest my home life sometimes was pretty scary and these songs really helped me out as a kid. Very uplifting.
@toastcruncher123 might not be since hand me downs and emulation are a thing. I grew up with Genesis games, but that console ended way before I was born
this soundtrack is pure dopamine seriously any time I'm feeling suicidal I come back here and I'm able to hold on it makes me imagine a better life, where I'm not crippled by anxiety and depression a world full of color and energy, a place where I'm full of confidence and I can take on any challenge they comes my way, where failure won't break me, it just pushes me forward maybe it's dumb, but at this point I'll take any chance to smile and laugh, so I thank this soundtrack for that, even if it's just temporary
Bruh lmao imagine having a soundtrack work so well that you feel like you gotta run while the sun is rising over the horizon. You know damn well the producers were bobbing their heads like crazy in the booth.
Richard Jacques did a lot of music for SEGA Europe, including this game. He mentioned in SEGA Saturn Magazine that he regularly cooperated with a singer called TJ Davis. Off the top of my head, I remember he also did tracks with her on Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast.

I remember playing as a Kid in Toys R Us on the Sega Saturn... Not having a clue what was going on but Sonic R.. was so much fun.. And that one song "Work It Out" stuck with me FOREVER.. I always heard it in my head. Like It's legit an amazing song.
Feng Shin word, I don't know why people think the soundtrack was bad.. That was probably one of Sonic's best vocal songs ever since Zebra head and them
These songs are so good. I hope they are never reduced to just a sonic meme. The songs are so emotional, well produced, soulful, and her singing is top-notch.
sinetic Think my comment just went over your head, I know that it's made in 1997 but the instruments, drum machines, the type of vocals, piano chords the soundtrack just sounds very of its time,
After talking with TJ Davis throughout the years, she wanted me to tell all of you that she loves each and every one of us. She has always been so cool and never stuck up about this stuff. She actually really appreciates the fanfare.. 🎉
Make me smile seeing people finally getting around to enjoying this OST, i remember playing it on my cheap ol pc in 98, man this ost just spoke to me then and it still does now. Such emotion in these songs, you can really feel the passion behind each one and the different vibes each song gives. Truly an underated ost.
Oh man. Did anyone else used to wait to start racing as super sonic until she sand "Come on now RACE!" Made me feel so badass as a kid since I'd end up lapping everyone still...good times...gooooood times.
I do have to agree with you on some part, which is that to me, this Sonic game has the best-uplifting upbeat feeling soundtrack of any Sonic game I ever heard. I mean all other Sonic game soundtracks are absolute fire (Adventure, Adventure 2, CD, Mania, Heroes, Generations and Unleashed especially IMO) but Sonic R (even though the game itself is meh) has an outstanding soundtrack that I almost never heard in any other Sonic game. Probably because of the song genre they used for this game (maybe 90s upbeat action pop) is pretty unique compared to other Sonic games. I know that some Sonic games used some form of pop before in the 90s, like Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but to me, Sonic R has the special upbeat 90s style pop that I really never heard in other Sonic games.
*_Number One_* When the day is done, when the race is won, My life has only just begun. When you're next to me, so much more I can see. There's nowhere that I'd rather be! All you need is me! Remember when I say! All we need is love, for us to be together! 'Cause you're my number one! At the end of each day, or whenever you're away, There's always things I wanna say. But wherever you go, you will always know, That I have so much more to show. It was such a surprise, when I looked into your eyes, It's only then I realised. I'm glad this soundtrack is getting so much lasting attention. I played the hell out of this game on the "Sonic Action Pack" collection for PC back in 2000 when I was 9 and these songs are burned into my brain forever.
Playing this game as a kid was the best. Spent hours playing getting the new characters and so much other stuff. Truly a game that will never leave my mind for the years to come.
Glad that the complete soundtrack for this game has hit 1 million now, absolutely deserved this ost is beautiful and is to this day still one of my favorite sonic osts despite the ost being fairly small
*_Can You Feel The Sunshine?_* Can you see? The sun is shinin' on me It makes me feel so free, so alive It makes me want to survive And the sky, it makes me feel so high The bad times pass me by 'Cause today is gonna be a brighter day Can you feel the sunshine? Does it brighten up your day? Don't you feel that sometimes You just need to run away? Reach out for the sunshine Forget about the rain Just think about the good times And they will come back again Feel the sunshine... Without you, there's nothing for me to do Can you feel the sunshine, too? It's comin' through; it makes me feel brand new When you're here, I wish you were always near 'Cause everything's so clear And today is gonna be a brighter day Can you feel the sunshine? Does it brighten up your day? Don't you feel that sometimes You just need to run away? Reach out for the sunshine Forget about the rain Just think about the good times And they will come back again When the sun goes down I feel like I am waiting For another day When the clouds go away Can you feel it? Ooh-hoo... Can you feel it? Oh... Can you feel it? Oh... Can you feel it? Can you feel the sunshine? Does it brighten up your day? Brighten up your day... Don't you feel that sometimes We just need to run away? Reach out for the sunshine Forget about the rain Just think about the good times And they will come back again Can you feel the sunshine? Does it brighten up your day? Brighten up your day... Don't you feel that sometimes You just need to run away? You just need to run away... Brighten up your day... Don't you feel that sometimes We just need to run away? Need to run away... Reach out for the sunshine
It's like the best music of the 80s and 90s were fused together to make this sound track. And I actually didn't mind the gameplay. It's good to see you, Childhood.
I never got how people think any of this music is bad or doesn't fit. it's good and It does fit. It is genuinely some of the most fun and uplifting pieces of music I've heard. Honestly I'm starting to think that "Cheesy" = Good vibes and and uplifting moods and I'm all for listening to more cheese.
Yeah. Corny, cheesy, lame, and wholesome are all great things. But jewish modernist takes have thrown all of that under the bus, and made them "uncool".
*_Back In Time_* Sometimes I ask myself What am I doing here? I think of all the reasons But it's still not clear I look at places to go There's nothing near So take me away from this Cause this place I'll hardly miss So take me back in time To another world Then you can be mine We don't have to worry When you're by my side There's nothing I don't know There's nothing to decide Apart from where we want to go What I am I doing now By coming back for more Is it me or I have I been here before? I want to go somewhere That we can explore Just take me away from here To somewhere that's no where near So take me back in time To another world Then you can be mine We don't have to worry When you're by my side There's nothing I don't know There's nothing to decide Apart from where we want to go Take me there Take me anywhere you want to go To a place that we both know So take me So take me So take me So take me back in time To another world Then you can be mine We don't have to worry When you're by my side There's nothing I don't know There's nothing to decide Apart from where we want to go Back in time I'm going back in time Back in time So take me back in time So take me So take me back in time So take me So take me back in time So take me So take me back in time So take me So take me back in time Back in time

Freaking memories man. I remember we got our first home PC from CompUSA...it was Windows ME. 2001! Sonic R was one of the first games my brother and I had. Kids today will never ever know. And I'm content with that.
That’s funny cause me and my bros would play this on PC around that same time too spring 2001 comes to mind fondly (along with Cold Shadow) we didn’t even have controllers for the computer it was all on keyboard…but we were happy
Weirdly enough a streamer I like (Pointcrow) was the first person to ever introduce me to this soundtrack thru his streams and now that I finally found it I’m SO excited! It’s such happy and funky music! :>

***** its almost as if..people have opinions.. *gasp*. As for me, I can acknowledge the game is bad.. i mean, it only has 5 courses and crap controls ffs. But, everytime I play it, I have a lot of fun
Haha, I love this soundtrack, people say it's out of place but honestly I can't get enough of it. Once you get adjusted to the controls and memorize the levels you can just have a good old time and listen to some jamin' music. :D
The soundtrack is out of place for me. feel like neither playing a Sonic game nor a racing game. But in another Nineties listening context it s good. It has some catchy tunes
@@lionec226 honestly it would be out of place if the pace on all of these wasn't so fast. But the rythm makes it fit kinda like an eurobeat compilation.
Honestly love these songs so much. They made my childhood. I remember once from how much I had listened to them, I started to sing them to myself, and I realized I could sing some of these songs entirely just by memory, without deliberately going out of my way to memorize them, I had memorized them all just from the sheer amount of times I had listened to them over and over. Sonic R, you may not be the perfect game, but sure as hell brought as much happiness as you could for the generation that grew up with you. So many great memories and so much fun times. I love my childhood Sonic games so much. I wish I could I retry experiencing them all over again for the first time, reliving those childhood memories, things were so much simpler and easier. I don’t have to deal with the anxiety about my personal future or my friendships and relationships or world politics. I could just chill and play a good Sonic game on my dad’s computer and have all the fun I want. These songs are the greatest way for me to relive it all again. I love their vibe, their feeling, their genre, they’re almost the perfect songs to become nostalgic for. Their cheesy lyrics, their bubbly instruments, they’re my childhood. Thank you, SEGA. You might just be a soulless large company, but I appreciate all the genuine art your teams make, and all the memories they create.
This soundtrack is my biggest guilty pleasure. Work It Out is my favourite; it has a very nostagic feel and for some reason reminds me of late-night car rides as a kid, in our old Ford Focus
I would love to meet Teresa someday, because I'd want her to know that her immaculate voice will always hold a place in my heart, and it's because of her work here. My childhood lives through this soundtrack, for I remember belting out every track as I played the game and I guess i didn't realize how good it really was.
this soundtrack speaks to me on such a personal level i remember playing this throughout such a tough time in my life when i was 14 i had no friends and had servere social anxiety this song helped me ease the pain and love other people again and allowed me to trust people again thank you tj davis
What the hell, this music is way too good. I know it's supposed to be bad because it doesn't really fit with a sonic game, but on its own it just rocks
To be honest, hearing these songs when I played Sonic R always made me have the sudden urge to get off my seat and start running for no reason. I still feel that way after so many years... LOVE LIVE SONIC R!
The saturn era was definitely the most JAMmin sonic era. All the songs are a BLAST to listen too. There aRen't any bad songs. They are XTREMEly good! ;)
Although I wasn't born when sonic r came out, I tried it this year and wow it is fun, the ost adds a unique and special touch to the game. I can see why many people enjoyed it.
I’m not too old, so I didn’t get to grow up with old Sonic games that weren’t rereleased much like Sonic R. So I listened to Sonic OSTs on UA-cam. And this one easily became my favorite!! :D

Sonic R didn't deserve a soundtrack anywhere near this good, but I'm glad it ended up with it. As someone born in the 2000s, this is what my mind instantly goes to when I think of music from the 90s.
Fun sonic fact. The idea of future world being costumed by fire in Sonic 06 originated from an incident where a SEGA music studio room burned down from the pure heat of this OST.

YEP- because Idk why people today suck and make things worse for everyone. Technology hasn't helped either but made it harder too... Omfg - I'm sorry for being so negative 😥
Right, because those clunky CD players that you can only fit in coat pockets, and skipped every time you take a step was so much better than those small, and convenient Ipods and MP3 players
Bloodsword788 Well, since there was MUCH better music and video games and tv shows and movies and books and practically any kind of entertainment medium in general, a little inconvenience is a small price to pay. Unless you're shallow enough to overlook a wide array of positives because of something minuscule. Then yeah, I could see why you'd think CD players were the bane of human existence.
Jey Tee Hey, I'm not saying the 90's where bad. I sort of grew up in that generation. It's just not a perfect era. Same as any other generation it had it's ups, as well as its downs

This is easily the greatest game soundtrack of all time and no I’m not kidding
what about the crazy buss ost
It's hilarious how 90's this soundtrack is, like even some pop music from this decade isn't nearly half as 90's as this..
07mcnallyl maybe this songs were made in 90's.... this game is almost 20 years.

Oh man. Did anyone else used to wait to start racing as super sonic until she sand "Come on now RACE!" Made me feel so badass as a kid since I'd end up lapping everyone still...good times...gooooood times.
oh man, I used to even do that in 2 player mode with my sisters. man those were some fun days
I have a feeling I’m gonna get shot for saying this, but this is the best OST of any Sonic game.
This takes me back to my younger days
It's fact
The most beautiful soundtrack ever conceived

I remember once from how much I had listened to them, I started to sing them to myself, and I realized I could sing some of these songs entirely just by memory, without deliberately going out of my way to memorize them, I had memorized them all just from the sheer amount of times I had listened to them over and over.

*_Living In The City_*
Living in the city
You know you have to survive
Living in the city
You got to keep that dream alive (living in the city)
Where everything is free (living in the city), can't you see?
Living in the city
You know you have to survive
Living in the city
You got to keep that dream alive (living in the city)
Where everything is free (living in the city), can't you see?
So many different things to see
There's no time
So many different things to do
But there's no time
So many people all around
So many feelings to be found
Living in a city where no one lets you down
Living in the city
You know you have to survive
Living in the city
You got to keep that dream alive (living in the city)
Where everything is free (living in the city), can't you see?
Living in the city (in the city!)
You know you have to survive
Living in the city
You got to keep that dream alive (living in the city)
Where everything is free (living in the city), can't you see?
So many things that we've been through
Can you feel it?
So many things for us to do
But can you feel it?
So many faces all around
So many places to be found
Living in a city where nothing gets you down
(Oh!)
Living in the city
You know you have to survive
Living in the city
You got to keep that dream alive (living in the city)
Where everything is free (living in the city), can't you see?
Living in the city
You know you have to survive
Living in the city
You got to keep that dream alive (living in the city)
Where everything is free (living in the city), can't you see?
In the sky at night
The stars are shining bright
You can see the city light
'Cause I'm here to make it right
In the city!
Oh! Yeah!
Oh!
Living in the city
You know you have to survive
Living in the city
You got (yeah) to keep that dream alive (living in the city)
Where everything is free (living in the city), can't you see?
Living in the city
You know you have to survive (the city)
Living in the city (the city)
You got to keep that dream alive (living in the city)
Where everything is free (living in the city), can't you see?
Living in the city
You know you have to survive (the city!)
Living in the city
You got to keep that dream alive (living in the city)
Where everything is free (living in the city), can't you see?
In the city, in the city
Living in the city
In the city
In the city!
Living in the city, oh!
In the city!
Living in the city
Living in the city
You know you have to survive
Living in the city
Oh, oh-oh
Living in the city
Oh, oh-oh
Living in the city
In the city, in the city
In the city! (Living in the city)
In the city!
Living in the city
Living in the city
Living in the city
i havent been this surprised at how good a soundtrack is in a long time. living in the city caught my attention and by the time work it out came on i was out my seat. this is absolutely magical.
Sonic R didn't deserve a soundtrack anywhere near this good, but I'm glad it ended up with it. As someone born in the 2000s, this is what my mind instantly goes to when I think of music from the 90s.
The songs can be used for a marathon. They give you like a spin dash. You’ll be number one when you make it to the end of the marathon.
Fun sonic fact. The idea of future world being costumed by fire in Sonic 06 originated from an incident where a SEGA music studio room burned down from the pure heat of this OST.
wait can you say it again
You almost wish that games nowadays had Sound tracks as iconic as this was...
yaaaaahhhhhh, this is paradise in a super great 90's videogame, i fell lucky to have found this master piece!
It’s totally different but Undertale has a banger soundtrack
@@Ozborne undertale is probably one of the only games to have an iconic soundtrack in the modern age
@@soniton2seg544 everything else is kinda forgettable but can you blame them? Working in entertainment now is atrocious you'd need to have balls of steel to go thorough with this industry nowadays just look at youtube and the economy generally wish I could jump forward 10 years in time
@@soniton2seg544 Dunno I played a game called No Straight Roads a couple years ago and that entire games music tracks have stuck with me give it a look
this soundtrack proves that the 90's was the greatest time period humanity is possibly EVER going to have ^_^
anything back then was great.
