    Good comparison! I would totally agree. Conclusion: My R1250GSA will stay with me. I really like the raw design and that it is a multitool for all purposes. Like Microsoft Windows in the past, sometimes you‘ll have to skip a version.

    Hi! As always great video. I enjoy your content very much. Just a question: what about the quickshifter of the 1300GS? Is it better than the horribly clunky one from the 1250GS?

  • @SCFoster

    Only brand I haven't owned is the Triumph. Had a deposit down on the R1300GS but decided on a KTM 1290SAS as I was able to get 20% off the price and accessories. Ended up with a bike that is the most fun to ride for a lot less than the cost of the BMW. The ergonomics can be changed and are typically done so for any bike I purchase. All of the seats suck, wind screens need to be replaced, handlebar risers are needed and foot pegs lowered. The addition of highway pegs also greatly helps for long distance touring.
    Have had a lot of BMWs over the decades and may end up with one in the future..
    You really can't go wrong with any of theses bikes, as long as it matches your needs.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  5 місяців тому +1

      I like that you shared the customization part. I think that this part may often be skipped since we never know what the best possible result may be. And also, I totally agree that the windscreens pretty much always need to go for something better and the seats can be improved too but I cannot comprehend why those huge companies cannot do the job well in the first place. And even it they all somehow weren't simply able to, they could outsource such projects and have it done the way for example GIVI (windscreens) does for those same motorcycles later on.

      @@VToldsMotoShow Now that you mention it, many eons ago I used to ride for BMW providing live TV coverage for bicycle and foot races (like the Tour de France). Spent countless hours in the saddle and asked the BMW engineers about it. It comes down to cost and complexity to make a seat that is actually comfortable for long periods. The shape has to be somewhat concave versus convex. Convex seat covers are easy to stretch, glue and staple, lasting a long time. But, they suck. Concave seats require stitching in the middle to hold down the cover, which is very expensive and prone to failure. Also collects water due to the stitches, meaning you have to use upgraded foam.
      The manufacturers are missing out by not offering custom seats that are made to order. Once a rider has gotten one, they should be able to make the custom seat for the next model bike they buy. Just computer model data.
      I do really appreciate your videos.

    A great channel Vtold but watching all your videos there’s a lot of city, urban and motorway riding. I’d love hear your views after maybe touring for a couple of days on some proper twisties mountain roads. Fair play, you did say at the start this is your personal choice based on what you prefer and I’m just a little taller than you at 6’3. I have a GSA and an XR and am considering converting them to a Multistrada V4 Rally and have one bike, although the Triumph GT Pro is a contender. Some of us out here would like to hear what the bikes are like riding 2up, and also to hear what the pillion thinks. So there’s an idea.

    • @johnstraw5390
      @johnstraw5390 5 місяців тому +2

      Yeah there are virtually no reviews riding two up with luggage. For some of us, learning how great the bike is solo and no luggage is virtually irrelevant.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  5 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for mentioning that. I personally very rarely ride with a passenger because of safety reasons mostly. Also, as years have passed, I prefer to take a car for long trips with a lot of luggage but I of course see your point. In fact, what I could do is to sit on the passenger seat... which I actually do just for fun sometimes. The only thing to assess is the seat and foot pegs comfort and suspension comfort while the seat may be modified and I do assess the suspension when riding. I wonder what compromise there could be but I'm not finding any at the moment. That's a tough one, I can give you that!

    As an ex owner of a Triumph Explorer 1200, BMW R1200GSA and KTM 1290SAS, I can confirm your judgement is spot on! I would however consider more the RT than the GS if the off road is not in my intentions.. And if would be, then these bikes are none among the greatest of the both worlds, where the mid-size adventures are covering better the off-road while still being fun and powerful. So I'm so excited of a similar comparison on the mid-size adv bikes, if you will, sir! 🙂

      Good point about the middleweight adventure motorcycles scoring better in any sort of non-pavement situations. And sure, I'll get to the midsize adventure bikes comparison in 2024. Thanks for the input! :)

    Thanks for the video! When spending that kind of money, on what is basically an adult toy, I personally put a high consideration on reliability history. Not all mentioned brands here do well on that aspect. Being this the first year of the new R1300GS, it might be worth waiting for the second or third generation. All the best to you! Note: For the windscreen, I'd prefer a one-hand manual adjustment instead of the automated. Yes, the later is convenient but another potential expensive failure point added to the bike.

    Thank you for the review! I will probably be choosing one of them as my next bike - except for the Tiger which I ruled out because it's too small. I'm 194 cm tall and it's really bad. The vibrations are really bad too, it's a bit sad that otherwise a good bike gets taken down by few bad qualities. Then again, the suspension doesn't seem to be up to GS or Multi either, as it struggles to keep traction on bad roads so I wouldn't probably go for it anyway.
    I will need to take the new GS and Multi on my testing "circuit" though, I rode the Multi in Spain and was excited but I don't know the roads there, while I for example found a road close to my city that allows safe riding at legal speeds while being as bumpy as a dirt road which is a perfect test for suspension. I'm really curious how will they fare, while you did test many categories, as you said, one's own experience is indispensable too. Thank you once more!

    Thanks for give your honest opinion, BMW 1250 is out of date is good for the owners but don’t seams the best option get a second hand instead get the new one. About the criteria driving in the city, sounds weird that GS1250 is moving easier between cars than GS1300, as the new one seams more compact and easier turn or transmit a new direction.
    Also which engine is the most smoothly ??
    That aspect make drive more relax

  • @davidpearce859
    @davidpearce859 10 днів тому

    An excellent report but while so many aspects are subjective and not measurable, it is interesting that the “old” R1250GS still rates so highly. In Australia where daily temps often exceed 30c, riding comfort is often determined by engine heat to the legs (or lack of it) and in this regard the KTM or either BMW fairs better. Riding the Triumph and Ducati in temps of 30+ makes you want to take the car!

    Of course the KTM wins. The BMW is becoming outclassed. Many people are saying BMWs are for those that have checked out of biking, it's the senior citizen bike. The price is outrageous. 24,000 without side bags. The KTM LC8 engine is considered one of the greatest engines ever put into a motorcycle frame. I own a KTM 1290 Super Adventure S, 2022 and it's been extremely reliable!

    Good review VTold. At 6’3’ if your cramped on the GS1300 where would that leave me 😳 I have a GSA which is ready to change so I’m either going Triumph because of the shaft drive or wait on the new GSA. BMW would need to start leaking little previews of what we should expect with the new GSA otherwise through the year there will be defections to other brands, and the likes of Triumph only have to put a 19 inch front wheel on their Rally Explorer and they could have a real winner.

    I drive a BMW R1250GSA an i'm very fond of it. Main reason why I chose it ... I wanted to have one with a driveshaft and as I hate to drive from petrol station to petrol station I wanted to have a bigger tank. Beside that ... the comfortable seat, the great looks, the torque, the brakes and the fact that the bike doesn't feel as heavy as he looks like made me chose for this GSA.

    I do have a little criticism with the comparison for the Ducati you were riding the V4 S which is the more road biased version of the Multistrada, but you mention the enduro and show photos of it... There are significant differences in the suspension, comfort, handling and power deliver in the two models and so i do think its a little unfair to compare this version with thw GSA which has the 19" front wheel... The best and most fair comparison would be th enduro, not the S. Overall your review is very comprehensive though and I like your style.

For those like me who don’t not want a Scooter in city, not feeling good on para and telelever and hating having the flat twins hitting my legs. The GSs does not put a smile on my face. Never. The 3 others are great great bikes. I put them on deuce at first place. And with a simple calculation , Tiger might be the best cos she does everything well, even braking 😊Ride safe.

      The main reason for placing the BMW in the first places is that in my opinion they score the highest in two summary categories, so city riding and touring. But hey - again, at the end of the day it's a matter of preference in so many aspects :). But no, these two are the ones that I wouldn't feel worried to recommend to anyone... with good hearing ;)

    The boxster engine sound consists of 2 main frequencies, with one four times the other. So basically the same sound as a 180 degree parallel twin. What this does is it generates the same note twice - with one note two octaves above the other. Try playing a piano while pressing C and the C two octaves up. It just does not sound good and there is no way around it. Change the exhaust all you like and it will not get any better. Mixing different notes just sounds better to the human ear.

    There is a lot of good bikes in same category but they can compete together but without Bmw. They are not on same level and number of sold units tell you everything.

    A simple story of a guy been riding motorcycles for 42 years now. Glad that physically still handle bikes at 53 years of age. I appreciate your reviews. I am 5"4 inch with 28 inch inseam. I have wasted tonnes of money on suzuki vstroms, kawasaki versysis all 1000 configuration.
    It is a shame for me that I;m not 6 foot tall, what do you have for us handicapped losers to be able to enjoy the good outdoors. I don't need your input as to performance and handling, I know the low end torq that im addicted to. Anyway, keep making money, I guess that is your end goal. Real motorcycles like the 1978 Goldwing that I grew up with had a seat height of 30.5 inches.
    There's a lot of craving to see motorcycles that are good for short riders, and we at this late age have the money to pay for it. Unlike social media slave youth who have no real money. I hope you understand. 6 foot talll good for you!

    If you would need Merc GLS on two wheels, best choice would be GS. But, if you are fond of motorcycling, Multi has no rivals. The best chances to compete has KTM but is lacking refinement.

    I am owner of tiger 1200 gt explorer and i maks 15 k km in this season on him.
    what could be better: the brakes could be more dosable, but they themselves stop the motorcycle very efficiently.
    I have heard opinions that it is done in such a way that they are better dosed in the field and this is partly true from my observations.
    The display has weak animations and stutters, but you get used to it
    wind protection is ok as long as we install a small deflector
    At first I complained about vibrations. I installed heavier handlebar weights, puppy grips and shoe inserts and there are no disturbing vibrations.
    what's great:
    The engine is a pleasure generator
    the sound of the accessory exhaust under load is
    great
    suspension
    comfort for the driver and passenger
    goes like a sport
    it is huge, but at the same time it is not heavy and easy to manipulate
    I can list the advantages for a long time, generally I recommend this bike

    I think you are way too nice to the top heavy giant vibrators: Triumph could easily be the top dog if they would just scrap their absolutely horrible t-plane crankshafts, but as it stands, i think even qualifying them in this comparison makes me cringe a bit 🥴😂 It's true they have amazing ergonomics and tech and i absolutely love the brand, but the engine vibrations.. No. 😄
    And above V4S? Sacrilege! 🔥😄
    Anyways, thank you for the videos and i wish you an amazing new year! 🙂✨

      ...and before someone mentions that newer Tigers have thicker seats and rubber dampings in their handlebars to reduce the vibrations: Yes. And it helps, definitely hands wont go numb anymore while driving higher speeds, but then you have the problem of feeling like you are driving on some weird air mattress; feeling for the road beneath the wheels is just vague and mushy. But yes, it's better than it used to be, but still.. mhm..

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  5 місяців тому

      Hey, as for the handlebar dampeners and new seats, doesn’t this apply only to the updated Tiger 900 series for 2024? ;) So about the vibration, after riding Kawasaki Versys 1000, I wouldn’t complain about Triumphs. Actually, this can serve as a treatment perhaps :). Thanks for mentioning the topic and happy new year to you too!

    • @Art-kz6zf
      @Art-kz6zf 5 місяців тому

      Yeah, new 900 has those and there were rubber dampeners in the '23 Explorer models as well. I've only driven once with the '23 Versys 1000 (besides owning a Ninja 1000 with the same engine for few years) and didn't notice vibrations with that one. I need to check if you have made a video of it, sounds funny 😄

The reason I will never buy a KTM, is that some stage I am going to have to get off the bike, look at it, and admit to myself that I bought that hideous thing. Fortunately, motorcycles are all about passion. Nothing at all to do with sense. Buy the one that stirs your heart. Thank you for the review, was very interesting.

    I own a 1250GS. Tested the 1300 and didn't like the ergonomics. It felt cramped. I guess that sport suspension option and a taller seat would fix it, but it's a lot of money so I'll keep the 1250. We'll see in the future what the market offers. The KTM is fugly, the Triumph boring and the Ducati too expensive and unrefined.

    Im kinda irritated, cause disagree in many points. There are not much reviews i disagree in so many things:
    - Engine&Performance: Multistrada same level als 1250GS & 1300GS srsly? Multi has one of the most sporty engines put into a traveller-bike. Its engine is awarded many times and won 2 times the alpen-masters title (against KTM and the 1250GS btw.); its more comparable to the KTM than to the GS's...
    - Brakes: Again Multistrada has top notch brake-systems. It has the biggest ones (330mm). The GS only has 305mm. Based on facts, makes no sense to put the Multi on 4th place here
    - Design: Ok thats indeed a subjective thing, but come on... KTM on 1. place, not really. Precisely BECAUSE its subjective you have to listen to the mass out there and the ktm is by far the ugliest rated one of all
    - Drivetrain: If you ask me, a review should point out objective facts and your own preferences after. Putting the drive shaft on 1. place and chain on 2. is objectivly spoken big bs... Thats a personel preference of yours and nothing based on facts. The chain is by far the superior drive-system! Less power losses, less complicated to maintain, cheapter, more durable on all conditions...
    - X-factor: ok very subjective again, so i wont criticize that, but your opinions differ again a lot with the big mass out there. KTM and Multistrada are seen as the most fun and most emotional bikes to drive. Driving GS is like sitting in the back of an s-class and beeing chauffeured. Nothing special.

    Hi V-told!
    I understand your conservatism. But the only thing that in your rank I can see is that you don’t approve in general the change that has been made to the GS 1250, penalizing the GS 1300. It’s a hard conclusion to the ones that have made part in the revolutionary transition between the two bikes of the same model and brand. This is the expected reaction when a manufacturer decides to alter something that was already very good. I can’t agree with you but has I said , I can understand your point of view. The classification here would be more assertive if you didn’t include in comparison two bikes of the same brand and model, the replaced bike and the present iteration of that bike. I see the point but the practical range of an assertion like that, is to say that overall the new bike is not a step up and generally not a better bike than its predecessor. Future will tell, but for me that penalizing idea is not what I think about the new BMW 1300 GS. As always, my respect for your views remains high, but unfortunately I can’t join my opinion to yours in this case.

    • @VToldsMotoShow
      @VToldsMotoShow  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi, thanks for digging deeper into it. I believe it's a matter of my taste mostly - and preference when it comes to large adventure motorcycles. I suspect that the 1300 simply reminds me of the middleweight adventure bikes and hence I perceive it as a less "serious" one now. I don't own a 1250 but maybe my expectations went so high after 10 years from the launch of the R 1200 GS that now my brain just couldn't switch back. I really don't know but analysing it category after category, it feels to me just the way I presented in the video. I'm very interested in seeing the Adventure version if it comes and maybe this will be the diamond that I expected BMW to launch. All the best and let's stay tuned watching how other brands will respond to this new R 1300 GS!

      Obawiam się, że każdy może być wyzwaniem, ale kierując się tylko tym, to BMW R 1300 GS z obniżonym siedzeniem i systemem opuszczania się przed zatrzymaniem ma największe szanse. Łatwo go też utrzymać, bo ma super nisko środek ciężkości. W sumie może zjeżdżać do 80 cm w kłębie (siedzenie) i to najniżej ze wszystkich motocykli w segmencie.

      Here's the channel that will cover that for you: www.youtube.com/@MattSpears/videos The capabilities of these motorcycles offroad are pretty much just the same - "don't take me there or I will hurt you and your wallet". What may matter is ground clearance that I've included only to give some indication but in fact what's more important there is low speed handling and the feeling of weight. If you look at these categories, you'll likely have the second best answer possible. But no, I won't be taking any of such motorcycles off the road at any point, even if they were my own motorcycles and on knobby tires.
