I have found the KEY to watching The Missenden Flyer as an American. It is simple, .75 speed on the video in UA-cam settings, and I can understand him just fine. Awesome, good info from a good bloke, at .75 speed.

Totally agree on the road presence and masculinity of the previous GS’s Andy, think I’ll be sticking to my 1200 for a while and when I am ready to change it’ll probably be for a 1250….save myself a bag of cash as well. Great video as always 👍

At night when looking at the horizon or just beneath: The angle of the headlight needs to be well separated from the angle of the eyeline..because:
We need a shadow for depth perception.
If your eyeline is close to the headlight.. you won’t see a decent shadow, which CAN be a major issue at night when a post is pointing AT You. Think of a speed hump or deep pothole. We need the shadow man !
Love your review, very grateful for your experience on the bike for months.
So many little gems in your review. They may delay the 1300 Adventure after you and others find this “ First “ of the new range has so many things that BMW could address easily before launching the 1300 with a real adventure tank.
Will it be the 1400GSA ?

These videos on the new 1300gs are the best out there, you have covered pretty much everything about living with the bike that is invaluable to a prospective purchaser. Everyone already expected it to be up on power etc but you have highlighted lots of other important things to which a buyer tends to come across after ownership. Massive well done Andy on setting the benchmark with your review, really enjoyed it mate 100% 👍👍👍

Nice Bike, great review. I went and had a look at one the other day. Just stopped in to pick up some oil and filters. One of the guys was nice enough to show me the demo. The blue one. Standard seat with adaptive ride, fit me like a glove. Tons of tech l never figure out.
Heavy Rain. Didn't ride it. Just as well, might have bought one. The 1200 is still a great bike. The heated seat, radar and adaptive cruise would be nice.

Just taken delivery of my triple black GS 1300 and degree with the comments on making the heated grip and windscreen control is more complex. I am a taller rider and have picked up that there are two positions for the windscreen. You can un-bolt it and move it to a higher position. Perfect!

I totally agree with you re the looks the radar panels especially
Also the rear light or lack of one both hopefully will be revised on the GSA and Mk 2 1300GS
The final one for me are the controls it needs a separate switch for the heated grips and screen
Lugage I would fit my GIVI Alloy boxes

Thanks for the detailed review of the new GS. I was at my local BMW dealer today and was able to sit down on two with the adaptive height option. One had a normal seat and the other had a low seat. I am 5' 8" with a 30" inseam. I put both feet flat to the ground on the one with the low seat. On the normal seat I am on the balls of my feet. Even with adaptive height both bikes were still hard to get off the side stand. By comparison I sat on a 2024 1250 GS Adventure with low suspension. I was able to get both feet flat and getting off the side stand was much easier. I think if I bought a 1300 GS I would be fabricating a longer side stand.

Thanks Andy for this excellent update. The price I found is so expensive, especially if you want extras added. I ended up buying the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT plus. It has amazing tech, superb engine, and smooth and lovely to ride. Panniers included too all for £14,900. It has the adaptive cruise control, centre stand great TFT.
So my view is why spend so much, ( Unless money is no object } if you can get all you need for so much less.
    Love your channel Andy.

Brilliantly balanced review Andy answering a lot of our queries. Hopefully BMW Motorrad listen to people like you and plan to resolve the teething issues. It’s a great bike but the launch onto market has not been the smoothest with all the niggles so the expectation that BMW get it right with the Adventure is now even greater. I watched Scott ( Nothing to Prove on youtube ) getting Touratech luggage fitted and basically the back end of the bike had to have major surgery so there’s not the same flexibility we had with the old bikes.

I have the exact same bike but with the adjustable height feature. I just completed a four-day ride across America, and I loved it. All the complaints you bring up are minor annoyances that aren’t relevant after you spend a lot of time with the bike. The motor is better, the suspension is better, the wind protection is better, and the automatic height control is a game changer for me and my 30” inseam. The stability of this bike is what really amazes me - out in the desert, I was running at 90+ MPH and it felt like I was doing 50. BTW, I did have the 1250 GS, so I do know the differences...

Respect for the honesty of your review. Very well done ✅ I test rode and ordered a GS 1300 last November..it didn't turn up on March 1st as had been promised. The dealer couldn't give me any clarity/information about when the bike or the withheld luggage would become available, and with all the niggles surfacing on social media, with some being rather significant, I decided to cancel the order. I've booked several tours for this year, and luggage is required. Also the rear lights issue, and having to go into the menu to adjust heated grips, screen etc, were beginning to look a bit like a safety issue..I'd rather be watching out for the ever increasing hazards we have to negotiate than fiddling with switches...I went straight out and bought a Multistrada V4 Rally ...and I'm extremely pleased with it...could be quite some time before I go looking for another GS 😏. BMW have taken their eye off the ball.. big time !

    • @jamesf8864
      @jamesf8864 14 днів тому +5

Lots of cars get around this by switching off the offending light (be it a tail light/headlight/DRL) while the indicator is flashing. The problem goes away all of a sudden. The light is then switched back on once the indicator is cancelled. I'm really surprised that a manufacturer like BMW hasn't embodied a simple and safe solution like this. I fully agree that the indicators are lost on this bike, which could be lethal.

Thanks for another excellent video, Andy. Incidentally, the 1300GS I tried also had an annoying whining noise. I echo all your comments, negative and positive. I think I’ll wait for the next version to see if BMW address these before trading in my 1250GS, which is hard to beat!

I have that exact same bike but with the black enduro forged wheels as I hate cleaning bikes.
I'm about 1500 miles in now and the only two things I really dislike about it is the road noise from the front end and the Connected Ride Navigator.
A change from the Metzlers it came with might change the noise, and I sold the CRN and stuck a Garmin Zumo XT2 on, which is beyond fantastic.
There are a few minor niggles with the electronics to sort out but I trust future updates will sort that. Its a great machine and even more fun to ride than my beloved 1250GSA. Which I'll never sell.
Thanks for all the video's, they're great.

Your point about the cost of speccing up a BMW is well made. And don’t forget that the price of these “extras” will melt away when it comes to trade-in time. A salesman once explained to me that options bought with a new bike don’t necessarily increase its value compared to the base model, they just make it easier to sell.
I also have to say that every time I look at a Boxer twin, I do wonder if the first ever motorcycle was being designed in the 21st century, would it have two cylinders sticking out sideways? I remember at age 16 in 1969, being completely being blown away by the Honda CB750 and the Kawasaki Z900. Suddenly all the singles and twins dating from the pre-WW2 period looked very antiquated, and that feeling has stayed with me!

Excellent follow up with your time on the Green Machine 👍 My Tramuntana arrived one week ago today so I am still in the honeymoon stage. It handles like my baby GS, rather than the 1250 👍👍Very nimble indeed 😁 I just hope it does well in cross winds.
I'm only 5ft 6in with a 29" inseam so the adaptive ride height and low comfort seat was a must. It is not so bad pulling it off the sidestand. My biggest niggle so far is the shifter is too low, even in the highest setting. Anyone with longer legs their toes are pointed more downward. I also come from an off road background riding tall mx bikes. I have Touratech engine crash guards coming and just received the Hepco & Becker handlebar guards to protect those pretty turn indicators. I am leaning toward the SW Motech soft panniers with the quick release frame brackets. I am looking forward to a great summer!

With respect to the look of the bike, the green and gold do it for me - this is the one that I'm going to purchase. The 719 bling, I wish I didn't have to buy it...not because I think it looks bad, but most of it you can't see - who cares what the footpegs, rear brake lever and shifter look like? Likewise, you can't really see the brake and clutch levers...the only thing you (and most other people) will be able to see are the cylinder heads and the brake and clutch reservoir covers. And the lower engine crash bars that BMW makes looks like they cover the cylinder heads up.
Really, the best bit of 719 kit was the mirrors that came on the triple black 1250. I understand it wouldn't be easy for BMW to have a 719 mirror, with the electronics that have to fit in the mirrors now, but it's a shame...they were sharp looking.

Really appreciate you being as constructive as you could be in documenting your own experience of the bike. Useful observations for potential owners… although I own the previous incarnation of the Tiger 1200, I still admire the looks and qualities of the previous 1200/1250 GS models over this one. It just seems that the ‘designers’ have been given too much influence… the combined rear lights/indicators are horrid and a real safety concern… central locking panniers 🙄… multiple layer menus to navigate to turn on heated grips etc 🙄 and radar cruise control ffs… and then comes the pricing!!??!! Stone me… BMW aren’t alone in ramping up their fees but bloody hell it’s expensive… Great video though, much appreciated sir! 🤗👍🏼

That’s a heck of a lot of useful and insightful feedback in a fast-edit and entertaining video. 🍻
Something I did not notice before until you were head-adjacent to the front. If the front-facing radar device was the same colour as the bike (green here except for the little tab above the light that says GS, which should remain black), it and the green fender would possibly better balance the awkward front proportions. Think windshield, green radar flat, black trim piece, headlight, black trim piece, and finally, green fender.
Have a look. See if I need an updated prescription or there’s some validity to my suggestion. However, for functional purposes, that radar thingie might need to be black. If that’s the case, then triple black is its only saviour. LOL. IDK.
Anyway… excellent video. Excellent feedback. Thanks for sharing!

I used to have to take my hand off the stick to engage the grip heater switch on the dashboard with my OilHead. Now I'd have to take my eyes off the road to engage some feature. The programmable button seems like a good compromise.

Good points TMF. Here in New Zealand the 1300 starts at $46000 and that's before the dreaded 'Extras'. When you consider that my Honda NT1100 DCT cost $23500 with a topbox that puts BMW's pricing into perspective. Personally I still think that the 1250 looks better and the 1250 RS would still be my first choice as I prefer the looks.

Good information on a popular new bike. The lack of backlit controls is really weird, considering all the new tech they have omitted a basic feature that is actually very common in basic cars even. Like you said Triumph on the 900 Tiger has it and it works great. Your right if the had the radar under the headlight would look better perhaps.

Lovely bike! Borrowed one for a couple of hours and largely agree with your views vs my R1200GS. Handling and performance is definitely up a few notches! But at the expense of some of the practicality, comfort and (in my view) the things that made the GS unique.
It feels like BMW reached a crossroads with this iteration. Bigger and heavier would have attracted plenty of criticism. Lighter, faster, better handling, are all things that are hard to argue against on paper. Anyway it's here now and I'm gradually getting used to the looks, even if I think I'll be sticking with the 1200 for another few years!
