Furniture Flipping FAIL: Second Attempt at a DIY Dresser Makeover
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 чер 2024
- In this video, we take a look at a furniture flipping project that didn't go as planned. I attempted to give an old dresser a DIY makeover, but things didn't turn out as I had hoped. But, isn't that the beauty of it all? Not all ideas are great ideas and it's okay to fail. Failure is a natural part of the learning process, and it's an opportunity to learn from our mistakes and come up with a new plan.
Despite the initial setback, I decided to give it another try and was determined to make it work. I put in extra effort and time to come up with a new plan, along with your help on Instagram, and was finally able to turn the dresser into something beautiful. This video is a reminder that it's okay to try, even if you don't know the outcome. It's okay to make mistakes and to fail. Because it is through those failures that we learn and grow. So, join us as we take you through our furniture flipping journey and the lessons we learned along the way!

This dresser is the only thing I've seen you flip that I totally did not like.
Everything else you've done has been beautiful.!!
This is actually the one flip I wasn't a fan of. So glad you gave it another life. Beautiful!
Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
I really liked the green color. I was thinking maybe you should paint it green all over, but I do like the black a lot. The only thing I kept seeing was some bling, jewelry.....like gold or brass hardware I think would look great and help it sell. That said, I really like the legs. Good job! I enjoy watching your videos. 😊
I agree @grace matters, perhaps the top of the drawers should be raw wood to match the new base, or gold accents as you said. Its lovely work and I too love watching the toobs.
@@jewels7291 Your right about the top. Bare wood would look nice! I do think she will sell it now after her remake, however.
I love the base with the legs and the new color. I would have liked to see some cute unique handles on it. ☺️
Me too…especially if the new handles were made of natural wood like the base…that would really complete it
My thoughts exactly. 🙂
I agree. It needs handles.
Love it. Me personally, I think it needs draw pulls. But it’s is beautiful. ❤ love how you give details as to how you made the base. I think you did an awesome job on it.
That rounded edge 80s style of furniture always remind me of a hotel dresser, without draw pulls etc. It also reminds me of baby nursery furniture, all it needs is the changing table attachment for the top.
I didn't care for the original flip in this one. This turned out much better IMO.
Lauren, the gym sessions are showing. You look really great lately and seem like you have more energy too so hopefully you’re feeling great on the inside also!
Thank you! I have been prioritizing both the gym AND the food I eat! More energy for sure! 🤗 thanks for watching!
Now you mention it….. yes! Brava!
New base and new color are both excellent! Both the extra height and the lighter feeling with open space below make it better.
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher You look great and are so sweet! Thanks for the videos!
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher i thought you’d lost weight you look great x
Adding a base and legs made a huge difference.
Even though it probably already has...If it doesn’t sell right away...just the right BRUSHED GOLD sleek lined hardware would take this dresser over the moon..BUT it really looks fantastic. I liked the green but this black is SPOT ON...!!!!! Good job and you are such an inspiration I love how you keep it real.
I appreciate how you weren't afraid to show us one that wasn't selling, and what you did to rectify that.
I prefer the black version. The natural ,slanted base adds a new dimension to the piece. It’s beautiful ❤❤
Much better as a solid color. I wasn’t really excited by the original flip so I’m glad you revisited it.
I like the black and the new base. My personal preference would be to stain or color wash the base because it looks to raw to me.
I thought about it but personally liked it raw! We’ll see!
So good!!
I would have loved to see hardware on the top 3 drawers to tie in the bottom base color. But even without, it's beautiful & love the wallpaper touch.
Love it now! The base makes so much difference. I would've stained it a warmer tone, personally. The wallpaper drawers are super cute.
I found that the little details really help sell the item
Putting the dresser up onto some legs really made all the difference :D Also, I love the black. Great choice!
Thanks!! Glad you like it!!
I liked the green but thought the wood was too light. If it was stained a chestnut color I think it would have worked well.
I like the black with the new base but also think the base could use a color stain to lessen the contrast but I’m sure it will sell now!
Yes!!!
I love the new way you did it up and wouldn't change a thing. It looks so perfect. Drawer pulls would have been bulky and in the way of the sleek look on this one. I love the accent drawer paper. It really does make it feel extra luxurious.
Gold pulls would look great against the dark paint .. that would tie light base in . Great job on the base. I love the fact you love to teach and learn. Plus you guy's share it with us. Thank you!
I agree, it definitely needs drawer pulls, and gold would look amazing!
That base made it so much better. Last time it just looked like a half painted piece of furniture from the 80s. I just feel like with base it brings it to a more modern look.
thanks! I agree! 🤗🤗
Thank goodness. The dip was horrid. Great comeback!!!!🎉
It takes so much math to be able to refinish/refurbish furniture so that it can show in the end as you do. I see you and everything that you do to make a piece look the ways it does. It involves not only math, but the chemistry knowledge of different finishes, etc and how to meld all of that together. Kudos to your extensive experience, knowledge, and patience in this field!!! Girl power!
The legs you worked so precisely on make the piece look unfinished still in my opinion. Love your work ,you can't work for free, but I think new price is high for our market here. Hope it moves for you just as you wish,am envious of your comfort with power tools !
Looks so much better
thanks!!
Lauren, you make me feel like I can do ALL kinds of things! Thank you for sharing these videos, this looks gorgeous!
I actually like the old version more. But this is probably better for the general public.
I like the all black. You should add hardware. It looked like a giant cd cabinet before the new makeover.
I was so glad you decided to redo this one. I usually love your flips but this one not so much. Looks 100% better now
The dresser looks great, and you are also looking trim and fit 😄
Love the base and Black is the new White
Looks much better I never cared much for the dipped look
I am very very impressed with you adding the base I mean not that I didn’t think you can do it but it’s fabulous congratulations
Thought about you the other day when I visited an upscale furniture store here in Las Vegas: What flimsy junk compared to the solid stuff you guys rehab!😃👏👏👏
Glad to see you and your Partner back together again ❤
I liked both, but I think you did the right thing by redoing it. can't wait to get back at it (hand surgery). BTW, your workout routine is working! You, both, look great!!
You did a great job in the transformation, also great news about you and Nieman back together !
I'm so happy for you guys! I meant to say this in the update video where Neiman put the note on that dresser 😉
I like it. If it still doesn't sell I would love to see you do something with the rounded edges on the top. I guess cause I lived thru that furniture's era, it's hard to look past the rounded top profile.
It's those drawer fronts. You can't escape those 80s drawers. It definitely looks better. The base makes a huge difference.
Thank you!!
For the inside of the drawers you can also put a nourishing product. Like Odie's oil, etc. And smells wonderful
Yes! Love doing that too!!
Lauren , i know this is going to turn out GEORGEOUS but for us old as Moses folks black isn't the best color. Most of us have eye issues and black tends to make some of us see spots. I would rather see a light color , something beachy and happy. Just my opinion sweet girl. Everything you do is simply GEORGEOUS!❤❤
I just wanted to say that since you made some changes (see prev toobs everyone), your videos have increased in content twofold. Well done, so much more interesting to watch you and N man🥰working/collaborating, a joy, thank you.
I think hardware would be a HUGE help.
Wow….what a difference! Love it!
Sue Wolfe- Lauren, you gave this dresser a new lease on life! Personally, I think that the solid black is a win over the green. Great choice and thanks for showing us that not everything goes the way we plan! 👍❤️
I was HOPING you would leave the base and legs raw!! Great contrast
Glad you tried something else. Being from Wisconsin, all I could see in the first flip was Green Bay Packers 😂😂😂
Love the new base o this dresser! So pretty!
Much better!!! I have the same dresser and was looking for ideas. I didn't care for the dipped look but I love the black!! And the base makes it look much more modern!
You just seem really happy lately. It's good to see.
I am! ❤️❤️😊🤗
Like this version much better.
Thanks! Me too! 🤗
I didn't like it when you did it...glad you are redoing!!
I am so surprised the first flip didn’t sell it was really cute! I think the black is a safe color choice for the style. Both looks are great you do amazing work!!
The new flip is much better but I would add hardware to make it outstanding. As always a great job though
Beautiful Black ❤❤Beautiful piece.
Looks like you did a good job overall painting the piece but I think it needs a pop of color or something to break up all of that black color such as brass handles
Sorry I loved it the way it was especially when you put the base on it
I feel like it now looks like one of those huge mechanics tool boxes.
😂😂 maybe a little!
Looks better with the addition of the legs. Good job on the paint too. Because of the design, it ages itself, but it looks great.I’ve seen some comments to add pulls, but I’d take a leaf from Kacha’s book & add a bit of gold to each of the drawers to break the color up a bit.
I like the black redo over the green dipped look, Lauren. I also like the base with angled legs... very nice upgrade. However, for my personal taste, I would have preferred a wood stain and sealer rather than the raw pine wood. I always enjoy watching your vlogs and the way you remain true to your original profession by continuing to teach in your workshop! Good luck with this redo flip!
Maybe mixing a transparent dark stain at the top and bottom to compliment the flat dark paint on the rest of it.
Glad to see a redo. I was wondering how i would redo anything i mess up so this helps. I think that dresser is awesome amd could even go more masculine for the inside for a male. ❤
I agree a little more detail is good inside and out. Maybe gold legs.
Great job love ❤️ the new look, did a great job on the base. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I like the black better, but it think the front of the dresser needs something- maybe knobs?
I agree. This black, at least on the video, looks very heavy and one note. The legs do help it a lot though.
Like the new look so much more
U r one talented girl, I’m so jealous
You are the best. Love your educational shopping trips and furniture flips. Love how you admit maybe it wasn't the best color choice, and show us your redo. You take chances and experiment which is fun. It's also so great to see your honesty when maybe the experiment was a flop. You guys are so cool : ).
thanks! we strive to be authentic and bring yall along for the ride!
I agree with everything you did, how about gold pulls---might set it off, but it is beautiful!
Someone is glowing. In this video.
Great job.
Just my personal preference:
I probably would have stuck with the green family, maybe in the more neutral sage color and then
added stain to the top and base that was a little darker than what you have to give it a more neutral color combo.
That’s just my opinion.
Let us know how soon it sells.
LOVE the black! Much better than the first flip. I would line all the drawers not just the top, and add hardware, but that's just me. Good job!
We’ll see! It has built in pulls on the drawers and I feel like it would look funky 🫠
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher Yes, didn't realize that, you are probably right!👍💖
I love it!!! So glad you guys are back together. You both are so talented. Thanks for all the good content!!🥰
Definitely flipped up😉👍
Glad you put the dresser on legs and the style compliments it. Since you said the base is soft pine, I wonder why you didn't add a varnish or clear coat for protection from vacuum cleaners. Overall, the new look is great. Your skills are getting better and better. Thanks for sharing.
No pulls! My daughter has that style furniture and if you put polls on it, it will look very odd. I think the legs should be those mid modern spindles type. With the plastic or metal slides. Did you put slides on the bottom of the new base.? If not, I would recommend that you do so so the wood doesn’t scratch a floor or chip/shred the wood legs when moving.
I think some really cool and pretty handles on the drawers that are the same color(not necessarily the same material) as the base would look beautiful! It’s just missing something.
I love it now! Well done!👌
You did a great job on making a base.. But the black dresser looks very top heavy on the light wood. It just appears like a black box on pallet wood in the video. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and most of your flips are pretty near perfect. This one just isn’t up to your professional standards. It’s very masculine looking so the wallpaper in the drawers, though beautiful just doesn’t seem like a good call. I do hope it sells for you soon. Your posts are always honest, very well explained, informative and beautifully done. You are a natural in front of the camera and your skills are amazing.
I love this new look with your dresser, Lauren!! Great job!! 🤩
I like both looks but the second version will probably sell better. Keep up the awesome videos.
thank you! 🤗
Looks amazing ☺️
Looks very nice!
I really love this!
Perfect !
That looks so much better! I really love the lined drawers you added.
I like it, I wasn't sure I would! I lived the 70’s! But like the design in wood
showing in the black!
Awesome job! The base was exactly what this needed.
BEAUTIFUL JOB ! ❤🖤
Love the makeover!
Love this episode! I'll be saving it to remind me how to make the base. In awe!!
Wonderful!!
Beautiful update!!
Beautiful!!
Looks great
I absolutely love this dresser. Love the legs, love the black. Can never go wrong with black. Awesome job Lauren ❤
Beautiful transformation. And the Kreg Jig tutorial was good. Thanks for sharing.
The base has really leveled up the dresser!!🌟 Love that you left the base natural, Great job Lauren!!
Loved this video. Your teaching us how to do each step was so helpful! You are the best teacher! I learned a lot.
