- Today I'm going to convince you that you should buy a Sony RX100V! It might be the closest to a perfect camera out there today and can be had for some legitimate prices.
It records in 4k, has a built in nd filter, killer autofocus, I mean my only other camera that does the same thing weighs 10 times as much and costs more then 10 times as much, this thing is really a portable video studio.

The whole RX line is just wonderful. Own a first gen RX1 that still is one of the best portable stills camera today, and my parents own a RX10M4 and a RX100M5 which they take everywhere when traveling. For the features you get with the RX models I think the prices are definitely justified, not to mention the deals you can find recently (as you mentioned in the video).
I own and love this camera. I use it with a lavaliere mic and synch the sound in iMovie for UA-cam videos. To my knowledge, it's the only Sony with a "flippy" screen. Takes nice snaps too. Great overall value, and I bought it over a year ago new for just under $1000. Now with the RX100 VI, you can pick it up for way less.
How is the picture quality.... trying to decide between the rx100 v and the a6000 with a Sony 35mm 1.8. Any taught on which setup would be best for video and photography?

I would love to see you make a video on best cameras for family vacation. I don’t vlog and most videos (by everyone) are about best vlog this and that. What about most convenient camera to take on family vacation and still get quality footage without a DSLR weighing you down. Think Sam Kolder with kids on a budget haha. Love your channel BTW
The absolute best combo for me is having the rx100v and the HX99. Pretty much covers all bases!
mic input jack is very important, it helps a lot with your workflow. I like the camera but way too expensive.
Greetings would recommend the rx100 v or the g7x 2? Real world use. Continue auto focus, low light shooting photos and video. Can get a used g7x2 for $400 or rx100 v for $500.
Interesting that the best choice for RX100 is not the current updated model, but the previous version V. I get it that people wanted more zoom range but the cost in lens speed is just not worth it. 1.8-2.8 is worth gold. But the biggest sin was taking out the ND filter. I get it that a lot of amateurs don’t know why and how they should use an ND, but for anyone serious with their video, that ND is more gold.
Interesting that product shooting is talked about here. I have heard this from no-one else and it is a very real and incredibly useful capability. Five star review for highlighting the things that get overlooked, and also for describing the positive of the workaround for the lack of mic jack, rather than the negative of just b**ching about it. Every camera I have ever owned has had limitations that required looking for solutions. Nothing is perfect, but solutions are what is needed.
Ultimately, though, the best reason for the RX100 series is barely mentioned here and that is the slowmo capabilities in an affordable camera. The only comparable affordable package (almost, because it is the 240fps that is most useful) is the GoPro Hero 7 but a 24-70 lens and a faster aperture is far more useful than an ultra-wide for slowmo in general photography, although, the GoPro and the RX100 make a brilliant and complementary pair with each making up for the limitations in the other. And both are small enough to make carrying both easy to do.

Hey TEDD, this is one very cool smaller format video camera with very nice specs. Seems to have many features but the limit on video length seems to be a problem along with no mic input. Have you happened to find a workaround for the video recording limit and is there a limit on other modes? This looks very interesting for a starter video camera for someone on my Christmas list, I really like the pricing and features. Thanks, Gary!
The limit on the other modes is a standard 30 minute recording limit. If you get something like an external recorder you can do much longer.
I really only use 1080p on this thing if I’m doing something long like a second unboxing angle but the high frame rate mode is what I end up using the most for b roll 👍

I know 4K is all the rage, but how is the 1080p quality?
For youtube 1080 is usually adequate, but I know some cameras don't have a good 1080 image, forcing you to shoot 4k and downsample.

I just bought it seconds ago for 400 bucks. Returned my 1 day old newly bought hx99 due to being defective. Glad I did, now the rx100 v is coming in the mail soon and for less! Then hx99. Saved money and upgraded. Hell yeah. Loving the videos.

Mate I travel with this. The photos are incredible and it doesn't take up much space or weigh much. I also have the hx90v as well so that I have a big zoom. I reckon it's the perfect combo for travelling!

Video quality wise I haven’t seen a difference. I ended up selling the va but then buying this v a few weeks later 👍

Absolutely m8 but if your using 4k then its a 5min limit before overheating but you could do your review in segments and just join it up or do 1080p and your sorted 👍
But here is a question for you though. Would you give up the ND filter for a mic input? Actually a good comparison would be the Sony RX1000V vs the GoPro 4 Black or GoPro 7.
Nope, I'd rather have the ND Filter all day long. Its too easy to get an external audio recorder, its also really easy to get external ND for a camera so maybe they cancel each other out but I'd prefer the ND.
rx100 is a 1 inch... can not compare with action cam.

Great video but the stabilization didnt look too good. it appeared shakey background. I am no pro, but what are your thoughts?
Yeah I mean it’s no Panasonic stabilization but for basic stuff it’s pretty good 👍
If you shoot 1080p it has pretty good stabilization when you turn on Intelligent IS. Unfortunately it is not available in 4K mode.
Sure is a great camera and everything but one thing sorry two that made me move it lower in the list like you no mic plug and such a small zoom for catch aircraft and all that great report thanks heaps stay safe
Well yeah if you want to take pictures of planes this one isn’t for you. And yes the lack of a headphone jack stinks but it’s not an insurmountable obstacle. Do I wish it had one, absolutely, but there are work arounds 😁👍

No I didn't end up keeping the XT3, it was a loaner but I really REALLY wanted to buy it, I might still buy one here soon because its a fantastic camera.

I would LOVE to get this or even an A6500 but I've got a G7 budget! (hangs head in shame)
Sony has SO much to offer but there are a couple big drawbacks with overheating and no mic jack.
You do not need a mic jack FFS, you will always get better quality sound with a dedicated portable mic/recorder.

This seem like a good camera to replace my CanonM10. Way more better specs but no mic jack. Myb I should get an audio recorder as well. That 30min limit tho.
Just to be a nerdy aperture guy, the FF equivalent on the RX100V's lens would be 24-70 f/4.8-7.8 (round up, F5 to F8 about). But that's not bad at all! F8 on a full frame camera isn't too offensive.

i got one for 350 used and one extra battery, 2 weaks ago, still cant belive it... yes some color is off on some corners but it works just fine.

For external xlr? You can get something like the tascam dr60 that records straight to sd card and syncs in post.

Hmm, overheat warning in 5 minutes at 4K? Appears 4K will be the popular frame-rate going forward. I'm already skipping to the 4K flagged videos if the subject in the title is similar. Think I'll use a Hero 7 Black for quick-draw and shoot, the Galaxy S10 for super low light, and the GH5 for quality, those all do 4K no time limit. IMHO... 🤔😎😇

Yes it is and yes you could use it with an elgato capture card. You’ll run into battery life issues more then recording limits if you want to use it as a webcam 👍

Multiply the aperture by the crop factor (2.73) too. It's 35 mm equivalent is a 24mm-70mm/f4.9-f7.6. Not bad, but it's not like a 24mm/f1.8.
This is applied only for the bokeh. For everything else is a 24mm f1.8
Aperture = focal length/diameter of opening. If the focal length is lower, the aperture gets lower, even if the diameter is the same.
Be careful guys, the screen finish will deteriorate like many Sony Cam from that time. You can even see it in this video. With time, it will cover most of the screen. Personnaly, i replaced the plastic screen with a glass one for my DSC-HX200V.

Nice video. Just to split some hairs: It downscales 5.5K to 4K not 6K, max horizontal res is 5472 pixels.

5k down sampled to 4k* on the rx100v. The 6300,6500,7riii, & a7iii shoot 6k & down sample it to 4k

totally depends on what you want. G7X mark II is a better buy if you don't want to spend as much and spend less time editing video via color grading etc. If you can't deal with a inferior autofocus that is slow and sometimes doesn't focus correctly and makes that really annoying buzzing noise then Canon G7X is fine. When it comes down to it. If you're a casual video person or just starting out the G7X Mark II is probably the better fit especially due to its price. However if you are really into youtube and don't want to deal with autofocus issues then the Sony is clearly the winner. For me, I'm fine with editing my video to make it more saturated like the canon but can't deal with the slow, and annoying clicking autofocus on the canon. There are quite a few famous youtubers who use the G7X but I can clearly hear that annoying clicking/ticking sound during the video. If the G7X is able to make their autofocus as good as Sony's with the G7X mark 3 I would be happy to switch over.
Get an rx10 mk 4 it is also amazing.

Man! I think Sony should reinvent the RX100 VA, by leaving the original settings, Fix the over hearting, Longer 4k recording, adding a Mic input, an option to hold an external Mic, touch screen, better battery, life, the ability to see the info at the bottom of the screen when in selfie mode. Then you will have the ultimate Vlogging/photo/video camera.
If it's waterproof and shockproof, then it would be perfect.

@@nofood1 I ordered a Leica Q2. The Sony is a good Camera... just a tad smaller than i like.... I should've done a bit more research before i bought it. Bit complicated too.. I come from Nikon so the Menu system was a tad overwhelming too.. Just wish it felt better in the the hand too.

Nope, I just bought a Canon GSX7 Mark II with 32GB memory card for $499. It has the best flip up flip down touch screen and touch focus.
In india it costs 1150$
I kinda regret buying this for making videos. Should've went with a lumix m4/3.
I gave my g85 to my sister and got myself Sony full frame, but wow I miss Lumix g85 has great 5ax stub. Controls you can fully control it from your phone app which don’t can dram of

i mean its not bad... but too expensive :) the 6300 is even less and has a bigger sensor as well as swapable lenses and a mic jack... if it was like 700$ or less, it would be the most bouhgt cam of all time :)

But when you add a nice lens to the 6300 that can approach the quality of the Zeiss lens on the RX100 V... it starts becoming much more expensive. And it also makes it much bigger.

A non replaceable lens with tiny sensor, 1000$ brand new. Yeah, right, such a great deal. If this is a great deal then I don't know what BMPCC 4K is. If you're not a photographer or a videographer maybe you should stick to what you know?
