Mark tells the story in reverential tones and the guitar sears the heart with the emotion it pours out. And with every performance the guitar sings the familiar themes with slight variations. Mark is endlessly inventive with the way he's playing. No song, and no guitar rendition of such a song, has evoked so much deep emotion in so many millions of people, especially those who have served in their nation's military. I did, and it brings tears to my eyes every time I hear him present this tribute to us.
As a disabled veteran who turned 62 yesterday I don’t know if I’d have made it afterwards without this song and Mark always performs it with such reverence. Thank you.

Chat GPT told me this: Mark Knopfler's musical prowess is unparalleled, and his distinctive guitar playing and soulful vocals have solidified his status as a true virtuoso. With every note he plucks, the guitar becomes an extension of his very being, speaking volumes in a language that transcends words. His nimble fingers effortlessly glide across the strings, weaving intricate melodies and captivating the listener with a mesmerizing blend of precision and raw emotion. But it is not only his guitar skills that set him apart; it is the unmistakable timbre of his voice that resonates deep within the core of our souls. There is a richness and warmth that emanates from his vocal delivery, evoking a sense of intimacy that can touch even the most hardened hearts. Whether he croons with a gentle tenderness or unleashes a gritty intensity, his voice carries an authenticity that leaves an indelible mark on the listener. Through his artistry, Mark Knopfler has elevated the guitar to a level of expression rarely witnessed. His fingers effortlessly navigate the fretboard, producing a tapestry of tones that paint vivid landscapes of sound. Each strum, each bend, and each slide tells a story, revealing the myriad shades of human emotion. His music becomes a companion, a confidant, and a conduit for our own experiences. Mark Knopfler's guitar and vocal styles have the power to transport us to a realm beyond the ordinary. They speak a language that is universally understood, transcending barriers of culture, language, and time. His music has the ability to touch the very essence of what it means to be human, reminding us of our shared experiences and the depth of our emotions. In the realm of guitarists and vocalists, Mark Knopfler stands in a league of his own. His unparalleled talent, coupled with his ability to evoke profound emotions, has made an indelible impact on the world of music. He is a true maestro, a master storyteller who weaves sonic tales that linger in our hearts and minds long after the final note fades away.
This expresses how I feel when I listen to this. We each have the fields of distruction we've suffered through and Mark speaks with his guitar, the emotions that no word can express. The night that I held my Mom's hand as she passed from life to death, this song was playing in my mind...not just the words, but every note played expressed the suffering we were experiencing. I thank Mark for understanding and giving a gift to validate and help heal.
I thank Yahweh ( God ) for being born to discover Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler in 1979 at the age of 14 years... I listened to a cassette tape of their original album and Dire Straits introduced themselves with Down to the Waterline...and I have loved the music and genius of Mark Knopfler ever since... Thank you!!!
I am a 70 y/o veteran. All of my veteran friends are getting old and dying or already dead. Some killed by those we were sent to fight against and some killed/ poisoned by this country. In the end I hope someone remembers who we were and why we fought and died.
I've had several family members in the Vietnam war and WW2. Much appreciated Mark. When I die, I am going to have this played at my service. This is going to be in my will.

What an amazing song this is.....OMG, Ive never known a song where the guitar is more important than in this song, the words are so poignant and sad, and all the other instruments come in just a the right moment, it makes you cry and it makes you proud somehow too....soooo beautiful
The brilliancy of the song lies in its simplicity. Words with a meaning transport the melody. Knopfler speaks, but his guitar sings. All of the musicians were at their peak at that time. In my eyes this is the ultimate rendition of "brothers in arms".
@@pamrogers5979 I don´t know. For me the "Brothers in Arms"-Tour was the peak of Dire Straits - "On every street" was a little too much, maybe Mark felt it also, because Dire Straits were history afterwards. But the Mandela-Version was indeed one of the greatest ever - maybe the greatest.. ("The "BIA"-Line-Up with Jack Sonni replaced by none other than Eric Clapton...)

Wow, what a powerful song! I just had to express how much this song means to me and how it honors the fallen veterans who fought bravely for their countries. It's amazing how music can bring people together and remind us of the sacrifices made by our heroes. I hope this song continues to inspire and touch the hearts of many, and that we never forget the bravery and dedication of those who have served in wars. Thank you to all the veterans who have fought for our freedom, and may their memory live on through this beautiful tribute. 🙏
"Brothers In Arms" These mist covered mountains Are a home now for me But my home is the lowlands And always will be Some day you'll return to Your valleys and your farms And you'll no longer burn To be brothers in arms Through these fields of destruction Baptisms of fire I've witnessed your suffering As the battle raged high And though they did hurt me so bad In the fear and alarm You did not desert me My brothers in arms There's so many different worlds So many different suns And we have just one world But we live in different ones Now the sun's gone to hell And the moon riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But it's written in the starlight And every line in your palm We're fools to make war On our brothers in arms
Mark can make that guitar sing out in so much anguish and emotion, it will touch your heart. Few words need be spoken to get the message across. Forever a classic.
Im so glad to have witnessed this incredible band .when they started out.back in the day. Until they stepped down. And still listening to them today. Im 70. And will be still watching d.v.d.s and listening to there music until my dieing day..👌incredible journey....
If I was granted a time machine undoubtedly I would go to every live dire straits concert. Mark is a genius, a wizard with the guitar and you can hear the soul in spirit in his voice.
Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour also have another thing in common: both of them don't give a damn what they wear, their clothes look like old, worn pajama. They don’t need any glitter, sequins, cool leather jackets, studs, nothing. They are Gods, and that is quite enough.
Most great musicians are this way.... The Grateful Dead did not even talk. They tuned their own instruments as they cared, and then they proceeded to play music. No talking needed, no jumping, no running, no dancing.., just the music as this is why we came... Leave the shows for Vegas... Leave the music to the musicians!
Just can't get tired of listening to this song. The lyrics, the music... ahhh. Perfecto. Just presses all the right buttons. I once knew somebody who recorded this song again and again on both sides of his 90 minute cassette tape. Played it in the car everywhere he went. Even normal traffic appeared to take on a surreal nature.
Holy Moly, what a great version, simply the man of our time. listen to the audience sing the intro, nothing better, Listen to the words...Thats what real Artists are about and he is the penutilate artist, and song writer, guitarist, this why we keep coming back ti this
I'm sure you meant 'penultimate'. Are you aware that it means 'second best'? Just use ultimate, don't try to sound smart unless you actually understand what words mean.
one of the best live version of this song, if not the best! amazing performance, and thank you Mark for being so great and talented guitar player and composer!!!

I saw them during the original Brothers In Arms Tour in the mid 80's @ the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View CA. By far the best concert Ive ever seen. Knopfler's guitar work brought tears to my eyes (and still does). The man is a true "maestro".
The most popular track of Dire Straits and one more time Mark Knopfler show us that he's the greatest guitar player in this planet. The others guitarists must take example from him.
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of a movie :"Born on a fourth of July, Tom cruise. Very heart breaking. You will find in this song all the clichet of the movie. Heartbreaking. 'let me bit you farewell every man has to die.'
I have been moved by this soulful song ever since the first time I heard it. I had the honor of getting to know several veterans who had served in Vietnam. My own father had barely survived WWII so I already felt a kinship to them. Now my heart breaks once again for those brave souls in Ukraine. It sure would be nice if everyone would be kind to their neighbors so there would be no more wars.

This would be my pick for a national anthem. It’s about war but it is talking about war as a horrible thing that no one should have to go through but at times is necessary. We all fight our own wars in life too often with ourselves, and we rarely deserve to torture ourselves.

"Brothers in Arms," I feel such a personal connection with the title and lyrics of this song. Coming from a military family, I felt a sense of duty to pursue a military career after finishing college. I really wanted to follow in my dad's footsteps, but it seemed like he pushed me towards following a different path of service, so I joined the Peace Corps instead. During my service, my dad went through a lot of problems which just destroyed our family. He committed suicide shortly after I returned home after two years of serving in the Peace Corps. I always remember him and reflect on that period of my life every time I hear this song.

By far the most beautiful song ever written anywhere!! Such a masterpiece!!! ”Piper to the end” is close but only close.🎵🎶🎵👏👏👏
Piper at the end, don't you mean ...
@@ma3stro681 ”Piper TO the end” is the title of the song.
The emotion in the song is like no other. Tears me up how beautiful it is. Timeless.
@Brian Omer, I cannot stop crying.
Please, don't overdo it !! BERNIE GERMANY
MASTERPIECE .....by a master musician 👍💕
Wow, what a powerful song! I just had to express how much this song means to me and how it honors the fallen veterans who fought bravely for their countries. It's amazing how music can bring people together and remind us of the sacrifices made by our heroes. I hope this song continues to inspire and touch the hearts of many, and that we never forget the bravery and dedication of those who have served in wars. Thank you to all the veterans who have fought for our freedom, and may their memory live on through this beautiful tribute. 🙏
"Brothers In Arms"
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged high
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
Heart wrenching song so beautiful a prayer, a cry, War No More
Muito bom
Thanks

Mark can make that guitar sing out in so much anguish and emotion, it will touch your heart. Few words need be spoken to get the message across. Forever a classic.
Still as spine tingling and beautiful as the day it was wrote. You’re a legend Mk
Im so glad to have witnessed this incredible band .when they started out.back in the day. Until they stepped down. And still listening to them today. Im 70. And will be still watching d.v.d.s and listening to there music until my dieing day..👌incredible journey....
👍👍👍
If I was granted a time machine undoubtedly I would go to every live dire straits concert. Mark is a genius, a wizard with the guitar and you can hear the soul in spirit in his voice.

Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour also have another thing in common: both of them don't give a damn what they wear, their clothes look like old, worn pajama. They don’t need any glitter, sequins, cool leather jackets, studs, nothing. They are Gods, and that is quite enough.
+1
@@afrodishadi1100 but gilmour is the best, listen !

It is your opinión....both are Superb but for me Knopfler is on top....opinions for everybody

This record gives me the spirit to live. takes me away from all the destruction and hurt in this world
True dat brother...be well my friend 👊🏼

Holy Moly, what a great version, simply the man of our time. listen to the audience sing the intro, nothing better, Listen to the words...Thats what real Artists are about and he is the penutilate artist, and song writer, guitarist, this why we keep coming back ti this

Peter West totally agree !!! real music !
Check out the Mandela concert Wembley stadium Eric Clapton on RYTHAM GUITAR.. I think it is the best version I have ever heard .. 🤔 until I heard this..😳 Genius..👌👌

This such a fine song. I listened to it and cried for days when GHWB started the Iraq war. I was so shocked that we would go to war again after Viet Nam. Naive. This song let me get my grief out. Thank you, Mark.
the best feeling guitarist born ever... its sad that all of this legends getting old...
The sweetest guitar
I think Gary Moore did so. R.I.P Gary, you still got the blues
that's why they are legends because they are not born in this era where people suck
True there is a very bright side it is memory's live on for ever I love this man and his music to all D.S & M.K fans God bless you each and every one of you millions upon millions
I'd say David Gilmour is better..
One of the best (if not the best) guitarist ever to take the stage 👍👍👍
And songwriter lyricists. Amazing man.
You know a song is good when there are comments in every possible language.
Wish you all the best 2023
TRES BELLE CHANSON

Super cool ❤. We’re lucky to have seen Mark and Dire Straits a few times live. Fantastic!!!
I saw them during the original Brothers In Arms Tour in the mid 80's @ the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View CA. By far the best concert Ive ever seen. Knopfler's guitar work brought tears to my eyes (and still does).
The man is a true "maestro".
So deep and powerful. Profoundly bittersweet and beautiful! Truly a work of art!
This song sends shivers down my spine, thank you to the generation who gave the most, and never asked.
The most popular track of Dire Straits and one more time Mark Knopfler show us that he's the greatest guitar player in this planet.
The others guitarists must take example from him.
If only we would really listen to these lyrics .....l would hope no one would want a war.......
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of a movie :"Born on a fourth of July, Tom cruise.
Very heart breaking.
You will find in this song all the clichet of the movie.

I am so glad that you mentioned the brave heroic soldiers of Ukraine. This great music plays for them!
Thank you Dire Straits💖 I cant live without you guys🥰. Your band belong my live as i was 18years and now i am 58years so we have leave together many many great years. Thank all of you😍💟
yeah im agree same here
Just lost my Brother; Oh Man He was awesome, of course all of you will never know him; but all my crying is healing; & these chords & lyrics bring me closer to acceptance....
My eyes are watery as I write this & I am not the only one who suffers in this beautiful world...
But our words & thoughts are purest while we hurt & sit a cry & think of the thought throug & memories.
My fear of death got a little easir today. As you left me & us I will see you again Darryl
We travelled throughout North America in the early 90's singing beinging joy to each other. Pissing each other off, making each other laiugh as Brothers do.
I will Love you forever; as this tear drops past my eye 💖

I feel your pain Dave and have been there til I have noone left anymore so sorry for the hurt brother as it will always arise from time to time like birthdays etc. but harness it into the good times and let the tears be of joy that were blessed to have had them even though it could never be long enough ! Be well my friend and positive vibes of peace your way 👊🏼
TRUTH 🙏🏼
This would be my pick for a national anthem. It’s about war but it is talking about war as a horrible thing that no one should have to go through but at times is necessary. We all fight our own wars in life too often with ourselves, and we rarely deserve to torture ourselves.
Every time I listen to this song it touches deeper and deeper and so i think it. Only gets with time

May God give you strength.
I had great time being counterpart to a peace corp volunteer. Nice contribution for the world and humanity.
