Hart of the YUKON- 14 Days Solo Camping in the Yukon Wilderness - E.5- Bull Caribou & Wild Berries
Welcome back to the wild journey of 'Hart of the Yukon Solo' in Episode 5. Today's chapter is a testament to the resilience needed to conquer the untamed Yukon. This day pushed me to my limits, unveiling a series of encounters and challenges that define the heart of adventure.
The wilderness has its surprises, and today it reveals the grandeur of a caribou, a symbol of strength and majesty. A massive bull crosses my path, a reminder that nature's wonders are boundless.
Berries beckon, a gift from the land. I pause to gather a bountiful harvest, although their identity remains a mystery. A distant rumble announces a bear's presence, and instinct leads me to move forward, reminding me that every step in the wild is a calculated choice.
Navigating the river's rhythm, I confront swift currents and waves that test my mettle. Among the challenges are the sweepers, lurking hazards demanding precision and strategy.
Through the river's intricate braids, I venture, each channel a choice to be made. Nature's story unfolds in every bend, as evidenced by a moose skull hanging in an eerie display, a testament to the ages.
An old burn zone comes into view, fireweed painting the landscape with a burst of color. As the sun begins its descent, a swift and narrow braid engulfs me, leading me astray. Concerns arise, but determination prevails, guiding me back to the main river's embrace.
The journey continues, cliffs and a beaver lodge weaving their tales into the scenery. Night's curtain approaches, and I finally find respite in a riverside campsite after a day that covered an impressive 45 kilometers. Fatigue sets in, and a simple act of 'bushcraft' crafts a toothpick - a reminder that even in the wild, small comforts matter.

Thanks for taking us along with you. I enjoy seeing this beautiful country! 😃👍👊
You so deserve a million subscribers. Amount of work you put to film your expeditions is above my imagination. I wait for every single video you upload. Definitely my favorite expedition/adventure Chanel .
Yes! 100%
Unless it pops up on somebody's feed, how would they know?
😂…..I’m guessing someone made a comment about how you eat your oatmeal……lol. Good Lord of all of the things from watching your videos THAT is what was pointed out. Buh bye….no Negative Nancy’s needed. Thanks for another epic video. Such a beautiful area where you are at.
Another great episode - that oatmeal session was next level! Heavy breathing, the spoon scraping on the plate… felt like I was there😂.
Truly a great series - I hope someday I have the opportunity for a big trip like this, doing the lady Evelyn loop next week 5 days so that will
Have to due for now, more than welcome to join, fishing the falls before trout season closes :)
Yup, the runniest oatmeal on the planet. It's a Baird thing you know. Ted does it too. I know why. Hydration. I hope the Grayling holds out- Thanks Jim!
“Oatmeal or no meal.” -Heimo Korth.
Yeahhh! Thank you for capturing a place and time in which most people will never go. The importance of doing this cannot be over stated. Along the way if a sock change is captured or a bear observation is recorded, all the better. 🥳
Viewing this video was the fastest 41 minutes of my life. Thank you Jim.
Yet another great adventure still awaits you! TY, Jim!
Indeed! Thanks a lot.

That is a great feeling dry socks and boots.🤠
I have watched all of your videos. I love that you show so much of the scenery unlike so many other youtubers who just show themselves paddling or talking. Your camera is so good and shows so much of the color. I'll never get to do the things you do and this way I get to see so much of the world. Thank you. You are such an inspiration.
Jim you are a living legend! Thank you for sharing the story and beauty of your travels!
Jim, you are the most authentic adventurer I have seen here, incredible fantastic trip you did in the most beautiful nature of Yukon territory, very well done 👍. Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭in the middle of Europe!
In Alaska we called those cloudberries. Like you said “looks like a raspberry” but better flavor. Yummy!
Thanks Jim, am enjoying these shorter length clips, sometimes don’t have a spare 4 hours or more, so these are a good length
I don't want to give things away for those that haven't seen the "special series videos" for this series; I'll just say, great editing and placement in those special series videos!
Hi, Jim! Thx for your videos, for sharing these amazing places and your experience!
The scenery and the water color are competing for ultimate gobsmackery. Just wow, Jim, this one's a beaut! Does "whitewater" = "cool whip"? Ask Stewie, I guess. If you were hunting sasquatch, that bear sound would have been a sasquatch. That's how it works. "Sweepers"- the new horror movie coming to a theatre near you. Beautiful!
When I was much younger I was big into mountaineering and rock climbing, and I can't help but wonder, when I see those magnificent peaks all around, that has any of them ever been climbed?? I bet there are a few first summits to be had up there. Back in old Blighty, we call Fire Weed, Rose Bay Willow Herb.
After seeing this, Yukon is now on my bucketlist
Nice man! Ya it is definitely worth the trip!
I think you will make couple of over 60 km days, because that's what you do. I think on this trip you hook into your PB Greyling/Thymallus as well. The Express is always a comfort in the wild. The scenery was Spectacular, that one mountain looked like it had a Calderra. Thanks for the ride Jim, Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Привет из Беларуси! Спасибо вам за увлекательные путешествия по прекрасным рекам. Вместе с вами все мы можем путешествовать. Доброго вам здоровья и удачи в ваших приключениях! Ждём новые выпуски.
Jim although we do look forward to you eating oatmeal in silence 😂we also look forward to you stirring your coffee with your giant cold steel knife 😂
Beautiful vievs, beautiful weather, beautiful journey.
Thanks a lot
Hello Jim, thank you for this beautiful tour as always and your prehistoric discoveries, there is always something different in your outings, thank you so much 💪😀💚
The days like that are long and hard, but boy do you sleep good at the end of em. Thanks for the videos, always look forward to the next!
This is beyond belief for a one-man-production team. The going back and forth for 2-3second footages. Very well done, Jim. Not sure why I didn't subscribe sooner when I knew you from Shawn's channel years ago. Definitely have some catching up to do. Thank you for taking us along your adventures. Blessings to you and family.
Can’t wait for the next episode!
Nice! The next one is pretty sweet
So much wild untouched land all around you, and you have it all to yourself.

Thank you Jim to sharing the video with us the place looks gorgeous take care.
Another EPIC episode! Love it! Such beautiful country. Amazing camera footage. So cool to see a caribou. Glad we didn’t see the bear even though it’s pretty likely he was there. Love the oatmeal shot. Missed the coffee creamer being stirred with the knife but you know, you can’t have everything 🤷🏼♂️.
Incredible adventure, one thing I am certain of is, the water is cold!
It is, these rivers all freeze up solid in winter and are fed by snow run off and glaciers.
That was Amazing!!! Can't wait for more🎉🎉🎉
Living life how it’s supposed to be lived ❤️❤️❤️. I hope one day I am able to do this
Another great video, I have enjoyed them all!
Looks awesome there Jim, thanks so much!
Yeaaaaaaaaah! I’ma need at least two video per week.❤❤❤
It is amazing that there is this much natural beauty left on the planet. Breathtaking! Thank you for taking us along.
Jim,
Aside from the obvious complements on scenery etc. I want to give you kudos on your canoemanship, video techniques, emergency prep and food planning. I love the use of the pld time oatmeal, pelican, canned goods, etc . I guess I'm too old fashioned to appreciate these freeze dried 3 course meals!
Would love to 😊ge
Halfway through this is the best one.

Love it Jim.

Jim silently eating oatmeal, in the morning, out in the Canadian wilderness.... The man knows his audience.
Thanks for the great footage Jim I am from New Zealand and the scenery is a lot like here but on a huge scale it's a real shame you don't get a lot of time to enjoy it more seems like you're always pushing for time thanks for taking us on these trips though just amazing footage and really interesting narration 😊
thanks jim
Very much enjoying this trip! Beautiful landscapes and adventures galore! Thanks for sharing with us JB!
best video showing the wild. really enjoying these thanks
Felt like I was right there going down those channels. Your narration is relaxed and comfortable. Some challenges along the channels with the swifts and unknowns. I've never tried the canned mussels, but really enjoy the smoked oysters. If you've never had them, they're delicious. Looking forward to E6! Take care.
Great video thanks Jim
Magnificent ! It just makes me want to get out and have my own adventure ! Maybe not on the same scale , but just to get among nature for a night or two. Deffo having silent oatmeal too ! 😊👍
17:08 You didn't even move your head. Jim the River King! Your channel is my favorite on YT. I feel like I'm having remote lessons from another continent. Greetings from Europe.
Frick yea buddie. Thursday mornings with Jim. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
That was a little hairy going down that narrow part of the braided section. Glad you didn't run into some animals along the bank while going through there. Cheers

Awesome Video .. thank you
Great stuff. Thank you 🙏🏼
Absolutely loving every second of these vids....can't wait for the next ones!!!! TY
Amazing
Awesome series jim 🤩. Seems like in general, 1 to 3 days to short i most of the trips. Making them straining, and maybe stressfull. Less time to stop and explore etc. But.. its a long time extra to be away from family and Office side of your job.
So enjoying your travels and expeditions. Thank you for sharing. So looking forward too seeing you with the family after your solo trip. Please be careful out there. Looking forward to next week’s posting🐞🙏👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🙏🐞
The best outdoor adventure content on UA-cam.

Nice, great to have ya here at the channel. Next one is tomorrow and will be a condensed version of the first six episodes so, you’ll see some of Thursday’s full episode 6 at the end of it.
