Hart of the Yukon - 14 Days Solo Camping in the YUKON Wilderness - E.10 - Searching for Hotsprings & Cooking a Rubaboo Stew
Welcome back to another installment of "Hart of the Yukon Solo." In this tenth episode, I continue my canoe journey down the magnificent Hart River all alone and share an unfiltered look at the wild, untouched beauty of the Yukon.

I navigate through challenging whitewater rapids in this one and the river's thrilling twists and turns provide an authentic perspective of this untamed environment. My encounter with a majestic moose adds a touch of wildlife wonder to the episode. It's a humbling experience to share the riverbanks with these magnificent creatures.
Things take a contemplative turn mid-way through the day as I find myself captivated by a stretch of majestic cliffs that line the river. The sheer scale and grandeur of these natural formations inspire moments of deep introspection, connecting my spirit with the unspoiled wilderness that surrounds us.
As the sun sets, I set up camp in a secluded spot, immersing myself in the Yukon's serene and pristine wilderness. The day ends on a high note as I prepare a warm and hearty meal over an open fire using a tripod I bushcraft. I cook up a simple yet satisfying rubaboo stew, combining split peas, canned corn, flour (as a thickening agent), carrots, mushrooms, and homemade pemmican that I prepared at home before the trip. Rubaboo is the traditional table fair of the Currier du Bois, Vouyageur and

Thanks a lot for watching. Please let me know what your favorite part of this video was. Here's a link to the battery review in this video: bit.ly/3SIKt7G
Favourite part was when you had that Spiritual moment admiring the Creation.
The soup of the day!
I liked your spiritual reflections on the might and beauty of the hills. Canoeing is no more a sport for you. You are older and can reflect on the nature of things.
Love nature as it shows off creation, so my favorite section is going around the bend or curve landscape. Will be putting that gizmo (BLUETTI) on my wish list for the holidays for sure. 🥰😍🥰
That was my favourite part of this day too@@freywayne6574
Jim, seeing you with a rope for belt hurts me greatly. You know the negative comments from the fashionistas, will be coming in soon. So, if you measure your belt from he Bar where your belt is attached to the buckle, all the way to the hole you usually use and send the measurement to me, I will make you a bombproof leather belt at no cost. I enjoy your videos and I will be glad to do it. PM me Cheers!
Very nice offer👍
Very nice 👍
I hope he takes you up on the offer
The real OGs wear ropes trust me
Very canadian of you eh?
Good Thursday Jim!
👍🌄🏞️🏕️🌅🌊🚣️🎣
😋🍽️☕
Jim selfishly I wish this journey was much longer but all good adventures must come to an end. You’ve captured nature’s finest once again, eagerly waiting for the last 40.
and so say all of US
I think this quote sums up how you might have felt when you had your emotional connection in that canyon. " As you sit on the hillside or lie prone under the trees, or sprawl wet legged on the shingly beach of a mountain stream, the great door that does not look like a door opens." Stephen Graham (who was a Brithish writer in the last century.)
Actually a little surprised that this is the first time I have seen you burn your pad after all the times I have seen you use it as a wind break. I totally understand what you meant in your spiritual moment. I have felt the same way when out with my dog in the silence of the winter woods.
Another great Thursday, thanks to you.Your sincerity really came through Jim at that spot were you felt it drawing you.Special moment for me on this epic adventure.Sad to see this one ending.
Thanks a lot and the final episode is going to be a really good one and likely longer as well.

Thanks For Taking Me Places I Can Only Dream About
Jim! You should get Quaker Oats to sponsor you 😂
Amen!
I can't tell you how much I enjoy all your videos. It takes courage to do these things and I really appreciate all your work to make this available to all of us.
At my age I have to just live vicariously through his adventures.
Jim can do this ! His many year of Canadian special forces has him well trained and conditioned for these big trips! We just have to discourage Jim from wrestling a bear!
Thanks Jim you’re a Beast on those Rapids!! 👏👏👏🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
Thật là tuyệt vời khi xem bạn lái thuyền trên dòng nước chảy xiết Mặc dù mình hơi sợ nước nhưng mà rất hay bạn
Thanks a lot
Thanks for the continued entertainment Jim. I'm glad there are people like you out there who take advantage of beautiful nature and are kind enough to share it.
Please add more days to your trips!!! These rushes to complete are easily avoided.
He would have carry more. Would have to go with another person
@@fale892He would only have to carry three more packages of oatmeal to make another day.
The running of the rapids at minute 35:00 to 43+ is spot on white water canoeing adventure video. Berry nice video....
My best part right after you said wow
Amen brother.. you said alot about how adventure trips and the river make a man feel
Thanks Jim. The scenery in the Yukon is really amazing. I will definitely be watching the whole series of The Hart again.😊
Your adventure is setting my soul free because Im stuck at home with responsibilities. I especially love when you talk to yourself on camera. Your relaxed, fun nature comes thru.
Thanks for sharing your spiritual and emotional experiences Jim. I think all of us who spend time in nature/outdoors do so for just those reasons. Humbling and so deeply meaningful. 💜 B
Sispug, I totally agree. My area is no where beautiful as Jim’s but the beauty of what I saw led me on a YT journey of sharing with others.
Jim Baird the Canadian Sidewinder - STILL SIDEWINDING TO THIS DAY
Jim...give yourself a couple extra days next time...so you don't have to push so hard. I heard you when you said the river was giving you a "moment"The Redwoods were life changing for me. Go if you can!
and the Big Horn Mtns! Epic.
I've always called those berries a "Dewberry" here in Saskatchewan. The plant usually only produces one berry, but the leaves (and berry) are very similar to a raspberry. They are extremely delicious!
Well done, Thank you for Sharing this wonderful vidéo ! Pozz svima ot sefer I marija. Francija
You’re very welcome! Thanks for giving it a watch
Eating oatmeal Jim, seriously how can I guy pick a favorite part, it's all awesome.
Lol, thanks a lot
Wow, what a trip. Can't wait for the last day. Cheers
تصوير رائع ومناظر تدخل البهجة والسرور لروح..
Those were some pretty bouncy rapids Jim. I can relate to your feelings in a spiritual place while solo paddling. Been lucky to have that feeling many times. Loved this series. As always, thanks for taking me along!
I know that feeling Jim when you're out in such epic wilderness I think that feeling you have is an overwhelming feeling of insignificance when you realize how very small and vulnerable we really are when compared to the scale of nature thanks for the trip through such awesome country 😊
What a experience on this part of trip. Tough family of explorers.
This has been a great journey! That food looked delicious!!! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to the next episode
The view ws breath taking what awesome trip you had Jim , keep them coming mate ,big tea you had you filled up your tank for shore Jim 👍 look forward too your last day on the river , 👍

Oh Oh!! Jim that feeling you get is sometimes called home, My guess is your a bush man, Take care on your journey through life
Love the music in the videos! Spot on🤘 Fantastic series Jim
great trip sadly its coming to and end , looking forward for the next 40 k ,, you know Jim that place you stopped and said you got a feeling of connecting to it , Did you notice the horseshoe shape across from you on the face of rock it looked like a cathedral doorway , it did have a mystical feel and look to it , see you on the next 40 God Bless
When you described the serene, yet powerful view of the towering mountain range, I said to myself "I get it". I knew exactly what you were talking about. I've been to Yukon and other equally impressive surreal sights and it does connect you spiritually with your inner self and a higher being. Can't describe it but you put it so well in the video. I get it.
I wonder if the river isn't a little bit higher than when the map was cartographed and those rapids were boulder strewn and more difficult. There's a small river near hear that is a class 3 when the river is high and a 4 when it's low. P.S. I knew 2 kids that drowned in those rapids at different times. Always nice to catch a couple of Grayling to kill those cravings- Thanks Jim
The wild and pristine beauty of The Yukon is beyond measure. I'll never see it in 3D, so Thanks for showing us glimpses of it through your marvelous videos.
You are the best!!! I just sit and wait for the next release. Thanks Jim.
yes - the presence of a greater force . i get this .... wow connections that are from beyond before ... i so get this
Your music choice over the whitewater segments warms my soul! Great stuff!
7:39 Those spires you talk about, they are for sure in the highlights of the whole trip.
11:10 highlight bend in the river
Not usually a comments guy, but Jim this series has been the best I have seen. Your narration sets you apart. When you stopped and put into words the feelings that spot made you feel brought back outdoor memories of my own. I guarantee many viewers had that same feeling. Thank you for allowing us along on your amazing journeys.
Absolutely loving this series!!
awesome...nice hike and your final meal today looked Awesome.
It was great, thanks a lot. Didn’t find a hot springs but it was cool to find that old portage trail.
Another great video for sure.👍👍👍

I like the colours of the sun coming through the forest fire smoke during your final rapid of the day. Awesome!
The section about your spiritual moment was so good - I often get the same feeling on my solo trips
Thanks Jim, I enjoy following along

Top stuff. Enjoyed the spiritual reflection. The yellow on black rock in that area; Wow!
love the music and you
top stuff
You are awesome, Jim. Such a good spirit.
Love it, as always. Super bummed this series is coming to a close
Spectacular wildnerness area love how the landscape changes as well as the river and mountains the further you go, so surreal the mountains in the smoke look like painting's so gorgeouse. Loved watching you maneuver the rapids with such skill, really enjoying this series sad that it will end soon , Real nice seeing the moose along your route, Seen them lots in the north but something about the moose that I love.
I have enjoyed all your video's but really like the long 10 day trips in the far north. At age 77 I would of never be able to see this part of Canada, "the second largest country in the world", after Russia. Thanks for taking me along while I set in my recliner drinking my morning coffee.
Been watching your videos for awhile now, huge inspiration! My routine is wake up early in the morning, make a coffee and watch your videos. Makes me feel like im out there too. I hope to someday do a big adventure up north somewhere. Ive done some smaller ones so far and even canoed the whole bowron lake chain! Thanks for making these awesome videos! Stay safe!
Immensely enjoyable, ooh raa
Thanks Jim.
Happy thursday night in perspective 🤗
Great looking stew, watching this makes me wish winter wasn't here. Sure enjoy watching your adventures and I've changed the way I do a few thing in my camps now. I've looked far and wide for you cooking pots......they must be collectables now.
Beautiful country! Definitely on the bucket-list.
Everything is freaking intense with you.
Awesome video bud great stuff 👍👍

Great adventure, what amazing scenery. The stew looked yummy for so far into the trip. Can't wait for tomorrows fish fry. Thanks JIm..
Eating those rapids for breakfast. Love to see it my brother
Digging the new editing style. Thanks for sharing your adventures, keep it up! Oatmeal or no meal, will forever be apart of my vocabulary 😂😂
Great video as usual Jim. You were inspirational to me and in starting my channel . Your tips and gear recommendations are great and I’ve purchased some of the gear that you’ve used and proven to be quality . Keep up the great work , best to you and stay safe.
Another great video! Gotta love maple brown sugar oatmeal! TY!
I look forward to each Thursday as each new video comes out. Nearing the end of each of your trips, I get a little sad knowing they are about to end. Paddle on!!
Well said Jim
I love this trip. Thanks so much for sharing it here. I don’t really have a favorite part. All of it is great. The funniest part was when you scorched your sleeping pad. Looked so much like something I’d do. When you set it up as a wind break I thought that might happen. I’m glad it didn’t turn out worse 🙂
