12 Days Solo Camping in the Yukon Wilderness - E.4 - Moose Sighting & Drinking A Pristine Mountain Stream
Welcome back to 'Hart of the Yukon Solo' in Episode 4, as we continue this riveting wilderness journey. Join me in the heart of the Yukon as we dive into a day filled with exploration, encounters, and the thrill of the unexpected.
As the morning sun breaks through the wilderness, I find myself amidst a tranquil camp, surrounded by the whispering embrace of nature. It's the perfect time to take a moment and review the remarkable Bluetti EB3A - a vital companion that enables me to film this adventure.
Our path leads to a mesmerizing stretch of the Hart River. Despite the river's enchanting beauty, the current's slowness and the numerous bends pose challenges, making every stroke a determination to conquer time itself. Yet, amidst this challenge, I seize the opportunity to cast my line, as the Hart's crystal-clear waters hold promises of Arctic Graylings beneath the surface.
A chance encounter with a majestic moose is a reminder of the wilderness's wonder. I draw closer to this gentle giant, a testament to the harmony between humankind and the untamed world.
Thirst quenches my senses, and my eyes catch a glimpse of snow-capped mountains in the distance. Consulting the map reveals a stream joining the Hat River, a lifeline of nourishing water. I venture up, tasting the pristine water that the wilderness generously offers.
The path reveals yet another surprise - a cache nestled amidst the trees. A canvas tent, a wood stove, and remnants of a journey gone by, telling stories of prospecting and adventure. It's a poignant reminder that the wild holds secrets and echoes of those who've explored before us.
As the evening approaches, I find respite in the embrace of a river braid, a convergence of waters. Here, nature beckons me to consider a campsite on a welcoming sandbar. With fishing rod in hand, I test the waters, catching dinner and casting my decision to make this spot my home for the night. Setting up camp, I am ready to dine, turning the bounty of the river into a campfire feast.
Join me in this immersive adventure. Subscribe to 'Hart of the Yukon Solo' for more captivating episodes, where every turn of the river uncovers the essence of true exploration

I'm turning 65 in November 2023 and watching this makes me wish I had managed my life better. I have been dealing with Diabetes for the last 25 years and the last 18 the Diabetes has been kicking my @ss. My feet and legs swell to the point I can't wear shoes on most days. I suffer from Peripheral Nueropathy in my arms, hands, legs, and feet 24 hours a day. I'm insulin dependent and have to take medication for pain caused by the Nueropathy. I'm dependent on being near a Pharmacy all month long. I'm telling you this because I used to enjoy the outdoors. So much that I never got married until I was 38, reason being I loved getting off work on Friday's and loading my truck with my camping and fishing equipment and driving 250 miles north to spend the weekend in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. When work got slow and I found time to get away I would go for weeks at a time. No one went with me, I hated needing to deal with someone else not wanting to spend the day on a lake. I hated having to worry whether they had brought enough food to stay for a week without having to go town for supplies. Getting married changed everything and shortly after Diabetes kept me from taking my wife into the wilderness. If you are wanting to do what Jim and his brother do, DO NOT WAIT. Buy a tent, a sleeping bag, and a fishing pole. It's best to learn how to fly fish so you can tie your own flies. It's amazing what you can catch with just a hook and a piece of thread. Stay away from Drugs, Cigarettes, and Alcohol. You will find God Created the Best High and trust me you will get hooked on the beauty he created for you to see, hear, and taste. God Bless all of you. Thank You Jim for sharing this beautiful life you have.

Fantastic episode yet again! I'm not a poet but I put this together for you.
    Ode to Jim
Jim travels the path of those gone before
Of the Indigenous and those who came to explore.
The waters may lower and the waters may rise
Nothing compares to the beauty before his eyes
Jim respects the land and leaves nary a trace
That kindness may be his saving grace
For the land is rugged, every turn unknown
Too far to drive, he had to have flown
Jim has a yearning to explore the north,
And every year, he travels back and forth
To dip his oar into the rivers that wind
To the land that has captured his heart and mind,
