  • In this video I talk about my ownership experience of my 2003 E39 BMW M5, 2015 BMW 328i and 2016 Porsche Macan S. All 3 cars are high mileage and have been fantastic to own. There are lots of myths around used German cars. Time to debunk them!

Man who can afford to own 3 German cars including a Porsche, two of which are less than 10 years old, explains to us that German cars don't break the bank because he can afford the expensive preventive maintenance work required. Wonderful.

And don't forget that "high mileage" in this context means 2 cars under 100k miles, and the 20 year old one having 120k miles

Great video. How on earth do you have such little views and subscribers? The cinematography and editing is excellent.
For many years I solely drove Japanese cars. I had an FN2 Type R, a Celica MK7 & a Nissan 350Z. They were very reliable, just to make it clear.
I bought a CLS 55 and yes, it cost much more than my 350Z in terms of maintenance and repairs. And I beat both of them up. And the Z was a very very fun and engaging drive.
My daily now is a Lexus IS250 & I bought my friends 335i E92. It's mapped at 600bhp, with hybrid turbos and will a lot of maintenance receipts. I've just shelled out for all new suspension components for the front end, new disks and pads all around, new rear tyres, all fluids changed - just to name a few.
The 335i and the CLS were arguably the cars I owned which cost me more than any of my Japanese cars. I found my Z and Type R to respond to abuse much better than ze Germans.
With that being said, had I opted for the Japanese equivelants of the Germans cars I owned, it would have cost me much more to simply obtain them - there's not much in the price range for a Japanese car with that much power. I guess the higher maintenance and repair costs simply come as part and parcel of owning a 15 year old German performance car.
Plus, the CLS was the best sounding car I have ever had the pleasure of owning!

I’d prefer not to buy one, I prefer the highest possible reliability that I’ll never get from German cars. The thing is that if someone is in the market for a used car 10-20k, they are looking for Toyotas and Mazdas instead of bmws and Audis, keeping the prices of the Japanese brands relatively high. People who are looking for BMWs usually have the money to buy new and only keep them a few years most of the time, leaving loads on used market with huge price drops. So now the choice is, either I buy a great driving luxurious BMW for cheaper BUT with the risk of high maintenance cost, or a more simple and basic Toyota for more money expecting way lower maintenance cost?

I owned a 2016 Audi S5 and got rid of it because of how unreliable it was. That was a 3 year old car, yes Old German cars will bankrupt you.

Not true...I have 20 year old e46 330 clocking 210k miles..just normal service, no major problem no rattle interior still intact, still performs well...I totally disagree with you

@@nhlanhlamagagula7467 So one car getting a decent mileage somehow means all German cars are reliable?
I don't want to burst your bubble, 200k miles is nothing to sneeze at, but 200k miles is expected from Toyotas, Honda's, Hyundai, etc. Every 20 year old Hyundai Sonata you see on the roads has at least 400k miles.
You got lucky my guy, that doesn't change the fact that German cars are junk

@@TheRealCatof Not lucky but but I take care of it then it take car of me, as a results I have I always stick to Bmw I have 2 more due reliability and built quality.
Asian cars also good on reliability but so on built quality esp interior they use cheap plastics not good quality on interior
Sorry for bad experience on your S5, go for Bmw 340 which is a main rival to S5..that B58 is a solid engine very reliable and powerful..

Curious as to what you've experienced. I have the same car but no major issues.

@@stephenrs6 In year 3 the car went into limp mode twice, as well as reverse not working.
Year 4, one of the air intakes cracked and the super charged broke. That's the point I got rid of the car.

Buying used and cash is the way to go.
Imagine you get a new one in payments, say your payments are 700$. That’s 700$ every single month without a break for many years.
Or, buy a cheap used one. Even if that used one breaks and you have to spend 700$ that month to fix it. The other months likely you won’t have any issues or payments so def worth the risk to go used !

Nah, german cars are too tech filled. So much to go wrong in comparison to a cheap japanese car. And if something breaks its gonna get expensive real fast. Im sticking to my peasant japanese pos.
