My 3 boys age 8-12 still jump in my 2000 540i and say it smells like a new car. They haven’t been in the 2003 M5 and don’t know it exists. Soon. I’ve been doing rear door vapor barrier fixes so it’s possible the smell is some mold relate to that or a dead animal as was commented. The e39 should not be a stinky car.
How do you call yourself an enthusiast but your main reason for selling the car is because it’s too old and unreliable? Sounds like you belong in a newer economy car with a warranty since you don’t work on them either.
As an enthusiast I agree with most of what he says about the car……but not sure what the point of the video is given all of what has already been said over the years.
So, is the leather off-gassing? Full/Top grain leather doesn’t off-gas (and therefore emit any sort of odor). I wonder if BMW was using a low-grade ‘corrected’ leather type product. Seems very strange to me the leather became so foul smelling.
If you are buying and reselling cars that frequently, how much are you spending on taxes/registration fees?
As a respons to this negativity to BMWs.. Check out www.youtube.com/@M539Restorations. He knows what he is talking about. Is there anything worth to know about BMWs, he knows it.
It’s most likely not the leather you’re smelling. It could be an old dead rodent that crawled up somewhere or maybe old insulation, etc. The smell is most likely fixable.
Magnificent car to make a run towards ice cream parlour
It’s not the leather, it’s the sound deadening material throughout the car that smells like (sour) crayons. You can remove it…
