APS cannons are so crazy... FtD is crazy... every time I think I understand something I realize I don't understand it... at all. I remember when I bought this game too... "Oh cool a pirate ship building game! I could probably get a few hours of enjoyment out of that." It took me 500 hours just to feel confident to attempt the easy campaign and another hundred or so to beat it... Amazing Game!

Im building one for your campain. Couldnt get around to finish it yet. I build a small version that isnt too OP but able to shoot down airships. It was what i came up with to make ships great again :P a 300 caliber nuclear atillery :D 25k cost 3k per shot.
@@ShawnReed-h9z There was a mass driver in the Xmas campaign files. I haven't played it so don't know if it shows up when you play. You'd have to swarm it with lots of drones I'd imagine.
my favorite way to test shit like this is to just make a massive thick block target there is not target quite like a massive cube of various materials and configurations just to gauge how much damage something like this really does even without that i can tell this thing is ridiculous and being so close to the next update i doubt this is something the devs will patch last minute the wizard who made this is a true menace and should be watched closely i have a feeling this will not be the last WMD they will made
A minor correction: Pure chemical warheads do still deal kinetic damage, but they only damage the block they hit, unlike AP or HP rounds that penetrate or make craters, respectively. The exception to this is when you have a penetration depth fuse on your shell, as that allows soft heads to penetrate for some reason. A soft head is a chemical warhead at the frontmost position in the shell design, which is NOT HESH, I think HESH is considered a squash head along with HP. HEAT and HESH heads also have such terrible AP modifiers that even if they could be used with pendepth fuses, they would simply bounce off.

It's exploiting unintended mechanics that let it basically impart the kinetic energy of a single shell into hundreds. If you were to try and make a gun conventionally with an alpha strike that's anywhere near that powerful, you'd need multiple railguns each 3 or 4 times the size and cost and all of the energy infrastructure required to run it. Its only disadvantage when compared to normal weapons is its sustained damage, of which it has none because you can't reload it as easily.
In FTD cheese is anything that provides a unfair advantage, this is wizard stuff and if all wizard stuff was allowed tournaments would be boring, laggy and unrealistic to abstract levels, this one is not THAT bad, but enough for it to be a bad idea in tournaments, this is another example of different cheese: ua-cam.com/video/8JLjyjySN3o/v-deo.html
You could maybe check the relative speed if you turned off the return function and put a chair on one of the clips, then sit in it and read how fast the clip itself is going. Although there is probably a hard cap limit for speed of vehicles.

The size comes from the railgun components to launch 2 max gauge 16 mod shells at 60RPM at 100000 rail draw (chargers & absorbers) and the imposed diameter from the rail parts (even though it admittedly only launches at 1/2 max rail draw per cannon) fitting into a circle for asthetics alongside simplicity in fitting into a turret well, so yes, you can make it smaller, but it would end up uglier and also something about redundancy i guess.
I wonder if cram cannon shells get inherited velocity... a doom cram mounted on a piston pancake to boost it could be cool. big spinal rail gun for a air ship. might have to run a bomb chute barel with 1 length to get enough travers for it to aim without AI using only ACB controll for timing. WAIT i was literaly just trying to make a 40k Nova cannon that could engage multiple targets. if it works for crams with pistons or somthing a hyper velocity doom cram would work. maybe potential for huge missile grenade launchers too with maybe glide bombs for guidance?
@@dripwastaken7884 ahhh it has to be a sub vehicle to function not a sub object. was hoping there was a way to do it without gravitons with sub objects bc the needed scale of doom cram to make a novacannon scale explossion is a bit much. guess thats why clip ejector is the only viable way. a DIF varient or 8m clip version could work
@@dripwastaken7884 That said, you *could* launch the missiles at their max speed without needing to waste space on fuel, guidance, or turning. Just pure thump, which would make for some very scary huge thump grenades or cluster thump missiles, as the damage scales by thump modules and speed. Doesn't matter if there's a cap, they still benefit from reaching it with no wasted component space.
For my build, I made some adjustments. I modified it into a flat turret design and reduced the ammo clips because the gun doesn’t fire every 10 seconds-it's more like every 20 seconds. The setup uses a spawner placed behind the APS firing piece. The gun itself is fairly straightforward: 10 recoil absorbers 20 railgun pieces 10 APS clips The key trick is explained in the tutorial. He fine-tuned the gun to accelerate the projectile just enough to fly straight, but not so fast that it teleports through the enemy.

Yes you can make super fast doom crams but theyr damage does not scale with speed, it will do the same damage no matter if its goin 3000ms or 300ms
The way you would do this is by making the canon itself a subvehicle and then shoot the subvehicle with a massdriver to make the shel go fast
It would not work for missiles as they have a set max speed they can reach

So I know why the turret was aiming a bit poorly. The required accuracy is set to 2*. ^_^ That said, this turret is very, very cool, and I want it. :P
