If you are driving around China and its convenient, see if you can find a 6c charger along the way. Thousands of stations are supposedly being built by CATL and others to support upcoming models. IMO 6C represents the endgame for EVs because it effectively addresses the longstanding charge time issue and thus effectively the range anxiety issue too. A video on one of those stations would be a sneak peek into the future!
Hi Sam, With regard to the air-conditioning at the hotel, I think it's government policy to set a temperature at both public and private places of not lower than 25/26 degrees Celsius to save on energy and help to slow down climate change. I think Japan has similar energy saving policies. In Hong Kong, there is no such energy saving government directive so when you go into restaurants, they set the room temperature at an insanely cold temperature of around 18/19 degrees Celsius which is not only wasteful but we have to put on some extra clothing to stay warm.
Jumping in on a new post to make a point: many of us drive few miles most days and therefore don't care about "range." We would eagerly buy EVs with smaller (lighter, cheaper) battery packs. Many of us also don't care about high torque, quick takeoff; as long as we can cruise at highway speeds, we're happy. Wish companies would make/sell vehicles with under 100 miles on a full charge. I'm old, but many younger folks also drive fewer than 50 miles a day. How about it?
John Wayne “better to have a gun and not need it than need a gun and not have it”. Although batteries are the most expensive part of an ev, the difference between say 50kwh vs say a 20kwh pack isn’t going to be significant. Remember you still need all of the other onboard infrastructure; charging, braking, safety, information systems etc regardless of capacity or range. Do you truly believe that a slightly cheaper ev with very limited range is going to be popular enough, that is, sell in the tens of thousands to warrant a production run? I doubt it or the marketing team would have influenced the production decisions.
Guangzhou EV Auto show starting today! Sergey visited the xpeng Aeroht (flying electric drone for humans attached to a car) which seems open to reviewers! you should have done those 2 above when in China reviewing EVs!
Can you do a deep dive sometime on the safety ratings of the Chinese cars as well as the model 3. I saw a recent video of 4 cars going under a semi trailer and was concerned about driver safety at that point.
I made a deposit yesterday. (USA) for the Y. The new gray is an improvement in color. I’m confused about a few things. Does the current Y have the new battery now and the new computer chip that the juniper has ? Anything else thrown in? Is the new updated Y going to be cheaper ? I’m getting 8,000 off if I get the current Y. But you liked the upgraded Highlander so much I feel I should wait for the juniper? Also O% financing . Which I won’t get on the juniper either. I’ll pay and wait if it’s a vast improvement. You know I don’t. TY
You had an GREAT video yesterday (or 2 days ago) about VW-group .. Where did it go? About the billions it costs legacy to restructure their current plants - and the ripple effect to the suppliers I think everyone should see it I wanted to share it, but I can't find it anymore ... (Also my comments get removed, why?)
I have been to China 6 or so times, 10 to 15 years ago. The drivers are indeed insane, passing on shoulders, going the wrong way to pass on roundabouts. The ultimate was passing on a blind corner in a tunnel. I think its their population control program. Keep up the fine videos. Glad you made it down to Aptera.
I lived in Chengdu 2008-2011 and I had the audacity to use my air conditioner so that the condensate started dripping through the ceiling - they had never even installed a condensate drain because they figures nobody ever uses their air conditioner!!! The building mgmnt were dealing with me like I was abusing the system just by using the AC!!! Great place to meet expats - met some really cool Aussies!
Hey Sam, turn the camera around for the room tour You don't actually need to be in every frame of the video .... LOL !!! Regarding the A/C for the room, had a similar experience in China many yrs ago They said it was not the season for A/C I am sure they do it deliberately to save on the cost to run the A/C Gotta love China, facade is great but scratch the surface and all the sins are clear to see

What do you make of all those channels claiming that China is 'collapsing'?
The birds are singing and the air looks clear in the video. Time to get home 🏡 mate. Nice to to meet you in Sydney. Family 1st!

25°C is the recommended optimum office temperature in summer here in Oz.
25°C is the perfect temperature for me.

💯💯💯
leapmotor just released an EV (B10) which meets European safety standards in china..priced at Euro 14k!
Yep most people want to be able to drive to work and back home
Most would probably put up with 1 hour of driving in rush hour traffic and that's it

Changing temp in a hotel room - that was a real game changer.

Nice. Enjoy the food. And all the (hightech) ev's.
It was an awesome trip, and yes, Sam and I both felt really crook!

Enjoy your time in China. It is a great place to
Any insights into PV systems. Are they going to keep dropping in price (i.e.Tony Seba) or have they bottomed out?

Tofu!
Did you check the hotel room for cameras? Did room service come with a massage? Was there baby oil in the bathroom?
Yes a cheaper EV below 20k in Australia, just 100k or so for the driving range
