What’s even more depressing is that this is inspired the Author’s REAL LIFE STORY….. look it up
Ye, difference being the author wished he died instead of surviving
Rob is right about how some ppl can act during war and disregard children even if it’s their own relatives BUT the opposite is also true. I know of people who are alive today who took care of other peoples families during war, treating someone else’s kids just like their own 😭 it all depends on the person tbh
The damage this movie does to you is indescribable
nah, Imperial Japan really deserved it imo
Tbh they did @IMGOSCHLEEP
@@IMGOSCHLEEP that’s something really harsh to say specially knowing there where people that had nothing to do with the war or what their government was doing
@@odorigonzalez1969 That's your opinion and is a fair outlook. But as a soldier I understand that there is no level of indoctrination that could compel someone to commit the atrocities Imperial Japan committed to CIVILIAN populations in S.E. Asia which in many cases were far worse than anything that happened in Nazi Germany. Soldiers come from a civilian populous and my opinion is imperial japan was full of barbarian savages.

This movie is a reality for many places in the world right now. Thoughts and orayers to the children of Palestine who are going through this very thing.
🇵🇸🇵🇸
so children in israel don't exist???? Whatever side you are on children matter on both sides as well as any civilians

I’m so excited to see y’all react to more Studio Ghibli! They’re not all sad like this one, some are actually very comforting to watch and the animation is just spectacular
この映画は反アメリカ映画ではないです
戦争反対映画です
As an American, I the message was loud and clear. I wish war would never have to happen again. I actually wish they’d show this film in our high school World or American history class. I believe this film is truly so important for people to see.
Yes, the only hint of the U.S. was a B-29 that appeared in only a few scenes, and the U.S. military was barely mentioned.
The film rather intentionally avoids criticism of the U.S. by focusing on the main character's siblings. This makes the film's message clear.
@@user-nd8py6zr6fthere still is. Ukraine is only one example.

Wow I wasn't expecting these dudes to react to this devastating movie. Interesting.
This is an anti-war movie, and when I was a boy in Japan, it was broadcast on TV every August 15th for around 20 years. This is because, at that time, there were still many people in Japan who had experienced the war, and they knew how much tragedy the war brought to many people, so they broadcast it to make people aware of that fact.
While I understand that in this type of environment you gotta just do what you can to make sure you can survive and in this case make sure your sister is good, I feel like the movie made it very clear the aunt wasn’t just nagging them not “obeying her” but more of the fact that she was starting to get annoyed of there existence as a whole. A lot of people definitely become more cruel as conditions start to get worse but it doesn’t mean that she should have been like that. He was trying to protect his sister from knowing how bad it was and all the aunt did was bring it up and make them feel bad for living with her when they gave her so much to pay for food sacrificing there own mothers belongings. While staying with her might have been the better option he did what he thought was right to protect his sister. And I’m pretty sure at the time he decided to leave he was still holding onto hope that his dad would win and save them when he got back
Bullets aren't the only things that kill in war.
One of the saddest movies I’ve ever watched. Kudos to y’all for reacting to it, despite the sad plot it’s an amazing movie
This is happening rn. Kids in palestine are dying of starvation as basic needs are blocked. Pray for palestine❤
maybe Egypt should help,,,,,oh wait no muslim country cares
@@rustyshackleford7282 bruh
This is a reality to some people in war today
Right now it is happening in gaza, Palestine 🇵🇸 too.
WAR IS HELL
What's worse is that it's no war, it is a genocide.
I have no sympathy for them . Palestinians have done the same to other minority groups too.
At some point they have to learn to evolve from hamas and their current way of thinking. Which is barely above caveman. soooo 🤷♂
Example, Palestine have laws to imprison gays up to ten years for simply existing. And trust me worst can happen. They have all but Geno the gay community over there.
@@keystorm8598 they did not have done the same thing. Its their land and welcoming those minority group was their fault...and they don't deserve this type of cruelty death...they are murdering every one child women no one matters to them...and the whole world is watching devils work...in islam war doesn't work like that islam teaches defend first...they will pay what they have done.
This movie destroyed my soul from start to finish and I was so damn depressed
This is inspired from the author’s real life…. He made it in honor of his sister. Look it up
Bruh why tf rob be talking like he knows what's it like being in a war?? Chill bro if you ain't been in the situation you don't know sh!t.
My request finally went through 😂, I wanted all the smoke that will fill your eyes in tears!
I just watched this in my film class where we are analyzing different styles of cinema (we had been discussing anime that week)
Just rewatched this movie for the first time in 6 years and was looking for a reaction. So glad you guys watched it
That’s what happens right now in GAZA 💔💔💔
Man... Jerry was NOT ok after watching this
I see what Rob is saying about the food but surviving in the wilderness is not that simple. Like I learned recently that you can find a good source of rabbits and be eating regularly and still starve. So if you can find a good source of calories and water that's it.
If you're malnurished, dehydrated and have diarrhea, some fish or a snall meal isn't going to cut it.
Anime be hitting the feels just right
Awesome reaction of my favorite movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Ain't no way you watched their 40 minute reaction in 1 minute

If you take movie recommendations I suggest: In This Corner of the World
Oh you’re trying to kill them lmao that movie breaks the soul too 😂
@@lishahopkins2205 Great recommendation nonetheless 😆
In response to Rob's question about what exactly happens after you unconditionally surrender, you basically just have to rebuild. Depending on who you are, your nation might be on its own for that, or if you're lucky, other nations will help you financially or with humanitarian labor. In Japan's case, the United States was happy to help Japan rebuild in exchange for letting the US basically rebuild Japan in their own image as a sympathetic ally in eastern Asia to more closely monitor the whole Communism thing.
The US held Shinzo Abe's grandfather (actual monster of a person, look him up) prisoner during WWII, but after Japan surrendered, the US let him go and had him installed as Japan's Prime Minister because he was gonna play nice with the US, and as per the US's wishes, Nobusuke Kishi ousted the Communists and Socialists, and consolidated the conservative power into a more unified party, but ended up resigning in shame after he signed the agreement to let the US build military bases in Japan paid for with Japanese tax dollars, which led to record protests. But at the end of the day, he was the medium through which Japan was rebuilt with the help of the US. Fastforward a long time and you have Shinzo Abe leading things, and very much carrying the torch he inherited until his recent assassination when it was found out he was involved in a very weird cult.
It's quite a different story from Germany's situation where the world collectively grabbed their heads and shoved their noses in shit for the next several years.
陰謀論
Props for watching the movie with the original language!
The way Seita tried his absolute hardest to be able to take care of his little sister and it still wasn’t enough… I hate how good this movie is. It made me realize how important it is to show your family you love and care for them while you can. It’s very hard to make me cry, but this movie had me feeling like a bitch
It's great to see you not arguing for this, but just to remind everyone in the comments with raging boners for committing war crimes:
The intentional targeting of civilians was a war crime then, is still a war crime now, and can *never* be condoned. Using the argument "well they did it first" or "they are the bad guys" are excuses you can tell yourself to make you feel better about committing or that "your people" committed war crimes. But they are still war crimes. And if you don't learn from that to demand better from yourself or your country, then you are complicit in them.
Taylor’s Cup O’Joe already watched this 2 years back! And in English Dub so Wellz kudos to you for introducing this movie 🍿 to the gang
rob speaking facts if you’re trying to protect ur sis u gotta obey ur aunt
As a previous commenter already said, the aunt was tired of them being around and was constantly bringing up gnarly shit about the war and the conditions of the people due to the war, and Seita was trying to keep that to a minimum around Setsuko so she wouldn't get frightened or depressed. Times were tough, yes, but she could have made more of any effort to be better to them.
@@struggleskywalker1025Yeah the aunt was verbally abusive and a downright prick to them... but she was also desperate to keep her family intact and healthy. She should have treated the kids better nonetheless.
Seita unfortunately did not play his cards right. Hard to blame him when he's a starving, scared 14 year old taking care of his sister while having lost their mom (and dad, but he wasn't aware of that yet). Regardless, he definitely needed to suck it up and try to work things out with the aunt, however horrible she was. She at the very least provided them with some food and shelter.

Japan be like: “How could you DO THIS TO US?!”
And it’s just like, bro, you guys were having competitions to see who could cut off the most POW heads in an hour. You were seen as the war lords of the eastern world.
You know, the belief that two wrongs don't make a right comes free wirh the decent person package
Two things can be true at the same time
This movie is not about what you stated it is. Do you think Japan would admire the US as it does if you were correct?

What a frustrating story to watch. That brother took what his aunt said as a personal challenge and got his sister killed. What a spaz man😕
