Your explanation is so simple I feel silly for having to look up what all the haze on the screen was supposed to be. Now I feel better about buying one of these units. Thanks.
As I've said, I've had the Striker 4 for some time now...sitting in the garage. I just retired and it won't be in the garage anymore. Thanks for the refreshers I'd forgotten and all the clearly detailed new info you provided. Moving on to the next 1Cast-1Fish video.
Awesome, glad you are going to get some real use out of it now...there are so many features packed in that can really help...just gotta take time to learn them and how to use them to their fullest
Your videos on learning how to use a fish finder are so awesome! They’re informative, clear, and you really do a great job at explaining why things are the way they are. These videos are outstanding!

My kids would love this... cause it looks like you are fishing for goldfish crackers.... LOL.. great video.. really informative... you did a great job explaining all the features...
Hope you bought it from one of my Amazon links....lol.....I am sure you will love it...I have been very happy with mine and it works great. Good luck on the water
Does using the Sonar mode drain your battery more? Do we have to turn off sonar mode every time we are done using it for fishIng? Or can we just leave it on those settings for good?
Thanks for these videos. I just tested out my unit that came with the kayak I bought used and wasn't trusting of the constant clouds of suspended mid column fish across all the lake. Well, fishing bottom and getting no bites, then finally jigging mid depth got bites. Wish I'd have known sooner. I started off using a deeper pro+ that I love, but this unit is superior in lots of ways.
Very simple and easy to understand... thanks man! Your videos remind me of being in science class watching one of those VHS tape videos that breakdown the earth, other planets, the solar system, and the universe, etc. Or an after school Bill Nigh the Science Guy show or something. Lol, it's great! I REALLY REALLY want to get the striker 4 plus at some point... with the down imaging, ya know?! I actually bought this one thinking that I could upgrade the transducer at some point, which I ended up doing. I bought the new 4 pin transducer, set it all up (ran my cables and all), and went to set it up on the screen... and I'll be damned if the new transducer wasn't listed on this unit 😫 I was so bummed! But it was my fault for not reading more in depth to find out that the "plus" models were the only ones that could do the down imaging. Oh well 😕 Anyway, I've been using this unit for about 10 months now, but evidently I didn't understand fully what I was doing with it. I just kind of winged it as I learned how to use it. I wasn't too far off, but your videos definitely helped me understand the basics much better. What I don't understand is how a fish appears if it's on the very outskirts of the cone... if it doesn't pass directly under the transducer. Is the arch longer, or more "stretched out"... almost like just a line? I use the fish symbols 99% of the time. I was playing with it the other day, and I got to a place where a bunch of symbols were there. So I switched the symbols off to see if they were defined arches, but they weren't really. It was almost like a long thin line. So much so that I thought to myself that it might be a thin branch or grass or something. But I was in relatively open and deep water... far removed from any cover like that. I don't know. I guess I just need to play with it more. Anyway, thanks again brother 🙏 🎣🐟👊💪💯
Glad you find these videos helpful...and the Plus and CV models are awesome. If you saw a straight line...that's great news it means the fish is staying in the transducer cone...so its nearby still. The Fish ID will not show this very well.

So I get an audible alert but no visual... other than my standard sonar display. Time will tell if I learn anything. haha. Thanks for sharing.
Nice tutorial. It's amazing how far fish finders have come. It's almost like your cheaper with the new technology available. Spring is almost here. I look forward to chasing Snakeheads with you.
Definitely, they are amazing the features that are available now....the new higher end units almost put the fish in the boat for you it seems...lol. Won't be long before the snakeheads start to show

@@1Cast1Fish I hear ya, my brother in law used the combination of a Vexilar flasher and Navionics to explore the lake. I don't have the subscription so I would have to rely on this feature at least for this year
Another option for the Navionics, is that they offer a cell phone type service as well..or at tleast they used to. @@1Cast1Fish I just recently purchased a boat and it has a older lowrance set up but academy here in my town has this unit for about 100$ I just got into crappie fishing and all I hear is garmin livescope yeah it’s cool watching you bait fall on the screen but heck 1500$ is out my league at the moment so I’m leaning toward this one on my console While I travel on the lake and the strike plus 7cv at the bow it’s about 349$ do you have videos of it??
@@thatruthhurts1670 I do not have any videos of the 7, but I can tell you that if you are good at reading your sonar and interpreting what you are seeing, the 4 or the 7 will be more than enough for crappie. I find schools of crappie with my 4 all the time. Sure livescope is cool and is definitely a game changer...but do you "have" to have it to catch fish...nope. I would also prefer the larger unit for traveling on the water...depending on your boat speed and such a small screen is tough to see while flying down the lake.
@@1Cast1Fish thanks man I’m currently running a 16 ft crest liner storm 1600 I think I will go with the 7 due to the screen size 1 for bow and 1 for console
Great videos. Very helpful for a novice like me. Quick question. Is what I'm seeing on my Striker 4 screen coming from in front of the transducer? For example, if I see fish on the screen are they ahead of me, directly under me, or another direction?
Could be any...the reason is what you have is a 3D sonar cone, being depicted on a 2D sonar screen. This makes it somewhat difficult to reliably target things in a directional sense. The best to do is enable the A-Scope (shows info in real time) and when you see the arch you will know that the fish is within the sonar cone radius. (Close to the boat)
Great video and very informative. Just got the Striker Plus 4cv as a gift and do kayak fishing. Any pointers or information on a split screen (Traditional/ClearView)? Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.
I like to keep it simple with traditional sonar and split screen. Check out my video on sonar frequency and you can see why the split screen may make sense since it shows you imaging from the whole frequency band since you are running both sonar frequencies. I have plenty of Striker 4 videos to help get you started...be sure to check them out.
Does using the Sonar mode drain your battery more? Do we have to turn off sonar mode every time we are done using it for fishIng? Or can we just leave it on those settings for good?
Hey! Are these allowed in contest? If so, what are your thoughts about using them? Do you think it takes away from the skillset and insight of the fisherman?
Yeah you can use them...you should see some of the stuff the high end big dollar units can do...it's amazing. I think this feature actually helps speed up the learning curve as far as learning sonar....definitely a great tool.
Super helpful thank you! Question: with the big fish and small fish symbols, is there any idea the actual size of the fish in the water? For example the big fish symbol is 10" and up? While the small fish symbol is under 10"?? Is there any gauge the size of fish with the symbol at all? Or does the big fish just mean there might be alot of fish and not necessarily 1 big one? Thanks again!
Does it hurt to plug in the transducer when you’re sitting in your living room so that you can make these adjustments? My striker four does not allow me to make any adjustments because the transducer is not plugged in and I’m not sure if this would damage anything or not
I just purchased one 2 weeks ago and I have some questions, in clear view mode while boat not moving the screen continues to scroll so I don't really know what's under my boat, also the side bar flasher thing you state shows what's under the boat in real time and fish coming on to the screen from R to L are fish just entering the cone zone, I don't notice any changes on the flasher thing on the right side of my screen, how do I read that thing? I purchased this fish finder from your videos and I like it and I like your videos! Thanks
Did you check out my video on Fish Arches Explained? If not check it out it should explain it much better than me trying to fill this comment section up...lol If you have questions after that let me know and we can tackle it.
Dumb question. Well I have the Garmin Striker 4. It’s mounted mid boat on my kayak. When I see the screen, am I looking at what is directly beneath me ? Or in front? Or what I’ve passed?
Check out my latest video on explaining fish arches....should answer all the questions. Not really enough space in the comments to really give you a 100% good explanation. If you have any questions after just ask.
@@nelsoncruck2458 yes it is very good I fish bodies of water that have decris in it as well and in has no problem detecting the fish at all I love this unit.
How accurate have you found the fish ID to be? The fish ID always marks way more than what I believe to be down there. Seems to be a day and night difference if I have fish ID on or off
Honestly I feel fish ID picks up a lot of other debris in the water and thinks its fish......same with baitfish...it makes it look like a lot of big fish when it is just bait. With that said though, it is great for beginners until they take the leap to learn to read their sonar returns.
I've never used a fish finder so it was cool going through the different settings on the unit! Nice tutorial!

That should serve you well. You will appreciate a bigger screen
Very informative, great video! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Great video as I just bought a unit like this!
How can I tell if there is a school of bait fish under the transducer?
Congrats on the new fish finder...sure you will love it. I have a video on baitfish comeing soon hopefully...so it should help a ton.
Great layout not sure how I missed this video
Thanks...probably missed it from the great YT notification feature ... LOL it always works perfect :)
Great feature this is my first fish finder and that is going to help a lot. Thanks for the tip
Awesome...I love hearing these videos help others...good luck out there catching a few
Thanks for the info, great video's brother lots of useful tips 👍👍👍
Thanks a ton, glad you found it useful
Great simple tool for beginners, keep it up.
Definitly...thanks a ton and glad you enjoyed
Great video and very informative. Just got the Striker Plus 4cv as a gift and do kayak fishing. Any pointers or information on a split screen (Traditional/ClearView)? Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.
I like to keep it simple with traditional sonar and split screen. Check out my video on sonar frequency and you can see why the split screen may make sense since it shows you imaging from the whole frequency band since you are running both sonar frequencies. I have plenty of Striker 4 videos to help get you started...be sure to check them out.
great tips and great work editing this. I wish i had half of your editing skills..
Thanks man that means a lot, I may not put out videos every other day, but I try to put out quality ones when I do now.
thank you man...you're so helpful
Happy to help!
Thanks for the information just brought one I am a beginner kayaker very informative
Right on! Good luck on the water
Many thanks Friend for your beautiful video. Have a happy day
Youas well, thank you
What a great tutorial my friend hope you have a great day!
Thank You...you as well
Good stuff, I really like my Garmin unit.
They are awesome units especially for the price...they are hard to beat
Thanks man!!! Really like this, I’m about to get my striker out. Haven’t used it yet
Man no excuses....get that thing out on the water ASAP , they are awesome...can't wait to see the fish you catch
Me either! Lol. Be very soon
Awesome, good luck
Does using the Sonar mode drain your battery more? Do we have to turn off sonar mode every time we are done using it for fishIng? Or can we just leave it on those settings for good?
Should not have much effect on battery life...Always turn the fish finder off when done fishing for the day
great overveiw, very nice job
Thank you a ton...I hope this helps people get a bit more out of their fish finders
Good informatuon and good review
Thank you so much, very much appreciated
@@1Cast1Fish I've got a question, if I purchase anything with the links you provided does that help u out at all
@@RalphBarton-fishing Yes it does...its like 3 or 4% commission from Amazon.
Awesome video and information!
Thank you a ton
Excellent, thanks much!
Thank you :)
Thank you for the video I didn't know I could do that on my unit
I hope to go through many more features on the Garmin Striker on future videos and show off some more cool features.
Really good video, thanks
Thank you, glad you enjoyed
Super helpful thank you!
Question: with the big fish and small fish symbols, is there any idea the actual size of the fish in the water? For example the big fish symbol is 10" and up? While the small fish symbol is under 10"??
Is there any gauge the size of fish with the symbol at all? Or does the big fish just mean there might be alot of fish and not necessarily 1 big one?
Thanks again!
I wish that was the case, but there is no exact size as far as I know
Thank u .Mohammed from Egypt
You are very welcome...and thanks for stopping by all the way from Egypt.
Great info thanks for the knowledge
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks man was helpful!!!
Glad to hear it!
Do u have a video on the Stryker 4 for identifying bottom such as hard or soft bottoms? Grass or gravel? Thanks !!
I do not yet...but it will be covered in my newest series
Like the videos, just subscribed,,I've been looking at this unit, my boat is 17' long will the wires be long enough?
Should be without issue
Thank you for this I want to get one which striker do you suggest this would be my first finder
What type of fishing are you doing? Lake, River, Creeks, Ocean? Boat or Kayak? Budget?
1Cast 1Fish mainly lake for my kayak budget like 200 most would like
Does it hurt to plug in the transducer when you’re sitting in your living room so that you can make these adjustments? My striker four does not allow me to make any adjustments because the transducer is not plugged in and I’m not sure if this would damage anything or not
You can use it without the transducer in simulator mode to change settings
Great tutorial🖒🖒thank you
Thank You a ton
Dumb question. Well I have the Garmin Striker 4. It’s mounted mid boat on my kayak. When I see the screen, am I looking at what is directly beneath me ? Or in front? Or what I’ve passed?
Check out my latest video on explaining fish arches....should answer all the questions. Not really enough space in the comments to really give you a 100% good explanation. If you have any questions after just ask.
I love the fish I.D. feature that is what I use on mine all the time!
I works pretty darn good IMO...misses a few here and there, but overall it is pretty soilid
Hi! Where I fish has a lot of floating debris, weed….. is this unit good in identifying fish? Thanks!
@@nelsoncruck2458 yes it is very good I fish bodies of water that have decris in it as well and in has no problem detecting the fish at all I love this unit.
lot's of great information
Thanks a ton, glad you enjoyed
Very helpful video
Glad you enjoyed, this seems to be a popular video...tons of great info...thank you so much for stopping by and checking it out.
