Thank you for your time on this! Back in the day I had a family expensive humminbird unit, down imaging, side imaging, the works. Short story, we had to sell everything and after 6 or 8 years we are trying to get back in it. The unit doesn't work anymore and we ended up buying a canoe, which that unit would have been huge on. We found this little unit, tho it it def isn't a high end unit, seems that it will do the job on a canoe. These videos are labor intensive and I appreciate the time and effort you put into it
Funny thing is this unit does more than most people who own the high end units even understand and know how to use. Its all about learning to use what you have to it's fullest....heck the old school greats had flashers only and they crushed big bass.

Can't thank you enough. I've watched a lot of your vids trying to decide on a fishfinder for my yak. Garmin 4cv Vivid is what I've bought. Great video and very instructive. I'm about to purchase a Garmin Vivid CV for my inflatable which I intend to mount on a Minn Kota adjustable transducer pole. The Vivid brings the complete package as far as I can see. Thanks again.

Hello , just found your channel & love it . Thank You for your Garmin Videos, thinking about buying one, but only fish fresh water mostly shallow ponds & lakes, my question is do I really need one for these types of fishing areas? Thanks Again, also will be using a kayak, thanks again
Honestly a really small pond probably not...but if its big enough to where you can not cast to most of it from one area, then the FF may be of use. I like the models with Quickdraw Maps, so I can make my own maps of small bodies of water.
This might be a dumb question but how is the transducer supposed to face? I have it placed on the side of my canoe but the end of the L shape is facing away from the boat. Not towards the front or back. Does that matter? Thank you.
I have enjoyed these videos even though I gave to watch them 10 times. You present a lot of info. I tried my simulator and it worked but now I can't get it to shut off. Does it have to be in the water to change?

I use the 10Ah battery for days without issue...I have done 2 day float trips and let it run 8-10 hours a day....and still had juice left. The 10 lasts a long time.
Paul I have just purchased a Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2 5X/7X. Do you have classes on this unit so that I can be ready to bay fish around Sarasota County bay areas? So far, the class on a smaller 4 Fish Finder unit have been so helpful for me at the point. Where can I order a unit to setup and better learn my unit from home?
Sub'd! Do you plan to plan to do any videos about transducers and transducer selection on the striker 4? I keep struggling with what to select. For example I have a GT8HW-IF ice fishing transducer and the owners manual says to select the dual frequency 200/50 option instead of the GT8HW-IF itself which makes no sense.
I am not really an expert on the ice fishing transducer, but that freq selection may make sense for the vast majority of ice fishing needs since you are stationary and the beam angles. I would try them both and see which one performs best for your needs
Hello! Great video! Every time I turn off my striker 4 vivid 4c for some reason the simulator turns off and have to go into the settings to turn it back on to get to the clearvue feature when turning unit back on. Is there anyway that the simulator would stay on whether you power the unit down or not thank you for your help.
I will be mounting my gt20 transducer in the hull of my kayak. Do you think I need to make any depth adjustment in that menu to obtain accurate readings?
im using a striker 4 for ice fishing so in a stationary or at anchor type situation I'm just learning the features and the demo mode shows images of a moving vessel. is there a stationary demo mode? if not there should be.
Great video! If you're vertically jigging deep, 40 feet or more, is it safe to say you're using 200 khz and ultrascroll or can you get away with 77 khz and still see your jig or spoon? Thanks.
I prefer the wider beam for jigging, I use the faster scrolls, but a big help is manually adjusting your gain/sensitivity up until you can see your jig. Sometimes the factory setting is not strong enough to pick up the small jig, but a bit of adjustment up and no issues.
@@1Cast1Fish Thanks for the reply. This is a great help. The best of both worlds is if you can use the wider 45 degree beam and still track the spoon or jig.
@@1Cast1Fish I agree, but I see some videos of vertically jigging for lakers at 70 feet or more with the 200 khz, 15 degree angle. Still I'll take the 77khz, 45 degree cone anytime, and it seems to pick up the same lure with the same clarity as the 200 khz.
@@browntrout611 so just for reference... @ 40ft the 77kHz cone will cover a diameter of about 32ft or just over 15ft in all directions around the transducer. The 200kHz @ 40ft only covers about 10ft of diameter, or about 5ft in all directions from the transducer...now try and keep your jig within 5ft on a windy day or in current. Now lets say we are in 80ft of water...now the 77kHz covers a diameter of 62ft and the 200kHz now covers a diameter of about 20ft... so a bit more room for drift. Just some things to keep in mind with regard to what beam you choose....hope this clears it up a bit
Just a quick question, I’ve heard that it’s possible to have the flasher screen on top and the traditional screen on the bottom, showing both at the same time. Which transducer will I need in order to do that?
I have a vmaxslr125 deep cycle battery that I run my trolling motor on, do you think I can run my fish finder on it with the trolling motor as well with no problems or should I get a separate battery for the fish finder
Is there a easy to get power supply so i can sit in my easy chair to play ie:setup unit just a power cord is $25 Great videos Great easy to understand info
This one has worked out very well for me www.amazon.com/ExpertPower-EXP1270-Rechargeable-Lead-Battery/dp/B003S1RQ2S/ref=psdc_404722011_t1_B07WMMQJ1Z And I put it in this ammo box with a little foam around it and I drilled a hole for the power cable to come out the back, easy to carry it to the shop to charge or take it into the house to practice with the simulator www.harborfreight.com/030-caliber-ammo-box-63135.html
Had mine in simulator mode like you said. Will it still keep all my settings when I turn simulator off when turning off. Do I need my tranducer plugged in to program cv?
Hi again . Sorry for another question, in the alarm setting. What do you have your device voltage set to. You mentioned this is important. Thanks Again
i have a larger boat and a pedal kayak. the Lager boat is rigged for a Garmin 540s but the screen is dark and unreadable. wanted to get a strike 4 for my kayak and use for both but the 540s has a 19 pin cable. any suggestions.
I don't think the Striker will work with a 19pin cable....not even sure they have a adaptor for that. You can buy a extra transducer and mount it to the boat...then just move the main unit around possibly.
Hi. How do i see my trip log. I want to see how many miles/km i have travelled for the day i was out fishing. That way i can also work out my fuel usage since i dont have a sender unit.
I'm a new user. Tried to set a shallow water alarm for 3ft. I could not understand the screen information or how to adjust the depth. Can you help please (Garmin manual also no use)
My brother installed a Garmin Striker 4 fish finder on my pontoon. The transducer is mounted on a bracket on the back of one of the pontoon logs. I understand the concept of the sonar shooting down a cone and how fish are be represented as arcs on the Garmin screen. But if I understand correctly, once you see the full arc it would mean the fish has already moved out of the sonar cone beams. If that is correct, then how do I know how far away the fish are by the time their arcs appear on the screen. I guess I'm just not sure where to fish in relation to what I'm seeing on the screen. If the fish have already moved all the way through the beams then it doesn't seem I should fish directly down from the transducer. But how far out from the trasducer would be best? Or am I just making this too hard?
In general you are correct, once you see the full arch, the fish is somewhere outside the cone. As far as how far, it has a lot of variables such as boat speed and direction and fish speed and direction...sonar scroll speed also plays a big part as well.. In general if you are stationary or slowly moving along I like to say that with a mid sonar scroll speed, as long as the arch is not past 1/2 way on the screen it might be within casting distance....this is not scientific or exact, just my mind set.
Hi Guy's..I am looking to buy a striker plus 4 and I would like to know if I can save route...in other word from point A to B with all is curves , island ect. Can I save it that way so I can come back to deck on the same route passing at the same places with all is curves etc..etc. Thank you
i am hard time to figured out why when i used traditional sonar or flasher when my jigging getting deeper disappeared before couple feet from the bottom-line either ice ducers/boat ducers ? "garmin striker vivid 4cv "
Try to turn up the sensitivity a bit and see if that helps any...also could be that depending on depth and any current the jig is drifting outside the transducer cone.
On the Striker its called gain....check this out and it should help shine some light on things to try. Look for the section on Gain. ua-cam.com/video/ZG-B2Y_s8Z8/v-deo.html
I have a question for you or anybody. I just used myself striker 4 for the first time today. I noticed that the depth number at the top of the screen and the indicated depth on the right side of the screen don't match most the time. The numbers can differ 25 feet or more. (The big top number is always deeper than the right side depth indicator show). Then it once in a while seems to correct itself. Shouldn't these two numbers always match or at least be somewhat close? Thanks!
My Garmin striker 4 has been running the model demonstration mode. How can I adjust it to the normal working mode? I can't find a way to adjust, thank you!
Is it stuck in simulator mode? Check this out ua-cam.com/video/jAp1PUeATZw/v-deo.html If this does not help a possible factory reset is in order. Is your transducer attached?
The time and date auto update when the fish finder is on and has GPS signal. You can adjust time zones and such by going to settings, units, and scroll down to select time zone, time format, ect
I actually see this question alot, which tells me Garmin should add this feature to the Striker 4....but unfortunately as of now, you can not adjust the volume.
Nice video sir.. for me im using a spit frequency... chirp200khz and chirp77khz the gain of chirp77khz is 88% then the chirp 200khz is auto.. it is okey sir? For you sir what is the best gain.. for spit frequency...from negros island Philippines..
Ok, in split frequency the gain should be set the same....also the best way to adjust gain is either leave it in AUTO, or start at about 50% and increase it until the screen starts to pick up alot of clutter....once the screen starts to show alot of clutter...back off a bit and that will be the best gain setting for those exact conditions at the time.
The best number to give the Coast Guard in an emergency is the GPS Position....if you go to waypoint map, then menu....go to overlay numbers, then change one of your overlays to show GPS Position....this is what you want. Also as a side note if I was a ways from land or other boats, a marine radio (which should have a emergency button) and a location emergency beacon are all good options...I would not rely on the fish finder 100%
I have just got the striker plus 4 but when I want to adjust the keel depth, there's not option. Just temp offset and transducer type. Ant reason why this is? System update maybe?
Thats a bit odd as it should be a standard adjustment on all models. There is no way to update the software on the Striker 4 series either. I assume the transducer is attached?
You can always try a factory reset and see if that helps...but it should be in there hidden somewhere. The real use is for large vessels with deep hulls and mounted transducers...on most fishing boats it should not be off by more than 6" to a foot.
I have a striker 4 and it doesn’t read the correct depth. For example I’d fish an area I know is around 150-200ft but it would read 800ft. Is there a way to calibrate? Or is it just a faulty unit?
You can calibrate the depth, but it really more for a few feet type of difference based on things like keel depth and offsets. No way should you have that big of difference. Have you double checked your pins and connections? Factory reset?
I have my entire unit mounted to a 1foot piece of 2x4. I used a 1 foot piece of 3/4” PVC pipe mounted to the side of the board, with the transducer mounted to the bottom of pipe. I use a C clamp to hold it on the side of my kayak, or can move it to a small rowboat I have in minutes. Works great! Hope this makes sense.
Tom, I got my mounting idea off of a UA-cam video about making a DIY mount for Kayaks. I wish I could remember the exact one, but scan some of them and you’ll see some great ideas! Best of luck to you! 👍

What kind of battery? Definitely should be lasting much longer. Battery could be bad.

I have just purchased a Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2 5X/7X. Do you have classes on this unit so that I can be ready to bay fish around Sarasota County bay areas? So far, the class on a smaller 4 Fish Finder unit have been so helpful for me at the point. Where can I order a unit to setup and better learn my unit from home?
Amazon has the Units, all I do is use a Nocqua 10Ah battery with my Striker 4's This allows me to use the units anywhere
Can I have a sonar gps split screen on my garmin striker4 unit?
Yes you can have both the Sonar and the GPS up at the same time using combo screens
I don’t see much info on this question but I’m curious if we are able to put a sd card in this unit for loaded maps and different software ?
The Striker 4 and 4CV do not accept SD or Micro SD Cards.
New subscriber. Great info. Do you have a Tutorial for the striker 4CV..
Most of the info on the Base models will be applicable on the CV, but I am working on CV content that will be coming in the future
I would really appreciate it 🤙
Thank You for watching :)
cant wait for this!
Glad you are enjoying this series...thanks

Hello!
Great video! Every time I turn off my striker 4 vivid 4c for some reason the simulator turns off and have to go into the settings to turn it back on to get to the clearvue feature when turning unit back on. Is there anyway that the simulator would stay on whether you power the unit down or not thank you for your help.
No, the simulator has to always be selected again.
I will be mounting my gt20 transducer in the hull of my kayak. Do you think I need to make any depth adjustment in that menu to obtain accurate readings?
No, unless your hull is many feet below the water line you should be good
Good job
Thanks
Has been a great to a kayaker
Glad you enjoy...thank you
im using a striker 4 for ice fishing so in a stationary or at anchor type situation I'm just learning the features and the demo mode shows images of a moving vessel. is there a stationary demo mode? if not there should be.
I do not belive so....sorry
The Amazon link for the kayak mount calls it suitable for the Echo. I assume it will work for the striker 4?
Yes it does, if you cross reference the part # from amazon with the RAM website, they should match.
@@1Cast1Fish got it. Thanks again
In general you want a wider beam anytime jigging...it's easy for a spoon at 40+ ft to drift outside of the narrow cone
Cant wait!
Thanks
Just a quick question, I’ve heard that it’s possible to have the flasher screen on top and the traditional screen on the bottom, showing both at the same time. Which transducer will I need in order to do that?
Nope...one of my complaints in class #3. The only choices are GPS & Flasher or Traditional Sonar or Split Frequency
I have a vmaxslr125 deep cycle battery that I run my trolling motor on, do you think I can run my fish finder on it with the trolling motor as well with no problems or should I get a separate battery for the fish finder
It would be just fine on the battery you have...it does not draw much power at all
@@1Cast1Fish thanks a lot
Is there a easy to get power supply so i can sit in my easy chair to play ie:setup unit
just a power cord is $25
Great videos Great easy to understand info
Just hook it up to a battery and you can play on the fish finder in sim mode all day long
This one has worked out very well for me

And I put it in this ammo box with a little foam around it and I drilled a hole for the power cable to come out the back, easy to carry it to the shop to charge or take it into the house to practice with the simulator

you are very good. i would like to know how to set the time of day on the striker4 please Thank you
Date and time are set automatically by the GPS Clock (Internal)
Had mine in simulator mode like you said. Will it still keep all my settings when I turn simulator off when turning off. Do I need my tranducer plugged in to program cv?
Your settings can be saved from simulator mode, and no transducer is needed.
Hi again . Sorry for another question, in the alarm setting. What do you have your device voltage set to. You mentioned this is important. Thanks Again
Sorry I see where you stated 12 , thank you
No problem, any questions feel free to ask, I try to reply to everyone

i have a larger boat and a pedal kayak. the Lager boat is rigged for a Garmin 540s but the screen is dark and unreadable. wanted to get a strike 4 for my kayak and use for both but the 540s has a 19 pin cable. any suggestions.
I don't think the Striker will work with a 19pin cable....not even sure they have a adaptor for that.
You can buy a extra transducer and mount it to the boat...then just move the main unit around possibly.
This information may be coming up but how do I see my kayak speed for trolling purposes? Thank you.
The GPS speed is in the layout on the sonar screen...normally upper left. if its not there, hit the menu and adjust your layouts/readouts
is it possible to make the depth reading larger it is much smallerthan any other fish finder that i have.thanks
Unfortunately, there is not
Can you make a video about the 4cv striker
Will do buddy
@@1Cast1Fish thanks

Almost everything in the Striker 4 videos is the same as on the CV....so its a good starting point to begin learning.

Hi. How do i see my trip log. I want to see how many miles/km i have travelled for the day i was out fishing. That way i can also work out my fuel usage since i dont have a sender unit.
Got that coming up in the next class actually...working on it now
How do you set yours for video game fishing and how do I change sensitivity
Check out class #5
Is there a way to set up a hybrid measurement unit? I'm an 80s Canadian kid so I'd prefer distances in meters or kilometers and depths in feet.
Not that I know of, you have to select one unit of measure for everything.
@@1Cast1Fish ok, thanks for the reply. Great tutorials!
I'm a new user. Tried to set a shallow water alarm for 3ft. I could not understand the screen information or how to adjust the depth. Can you help please (Garmin manual also no use)
When on the shallow water alarm menu option, you use the arrow up or down to adjust the numbers to your desired depth alarm setting.
Is the transducer for cv model dual beam?
Yes
I don't have that option under my vessel, just transducer type(I'm using the dual beam if ice transducer). How do I get this option?
The ice transducer is different
Thank you
Yes you can
i am hard time to figured out why when i used traditional sonar or flasher when my jigging getting deeper disappeared before couple feet from the bottom-line either ice ducers/boat ducers ? "garmin striker vivid 4cv "
Try to turn up the sensitivity a bit and see if that helps any...also could be that depending on depth and any current the jig is drifting outside the transducer cone.
@@1Cast1Fish where can I find that sensitivity?
On the Striker its called gain....check this out and it should help shine some light on things to try.
Look for the section on Gain.

Where do you have your Route Start set? Boat or Waypoint? txs.
Depends, but most of the time you might use boat, since you want to start the route from the current boat position.
We Need help with depth. Settings . How do we set the auto depth so it will be accurate. Thanks so much!
With the depth set to Auto, it will always adjust based on bottom depth. The depth should be accurate
1 cast 1 fish.... 1 rod 1 reel? Cmon bro🤣. Thanks for the video though, it’s informative

@@1Cast1Fish he’s a chach anyway. I hate him and extreme philly fishing, they’re so annoying.
@@willispautz I will try my best to not end up on the your bad list :)
Thanks!
The far right of the screen is a depth scale, it is not actual depth. Make sure in the settings, the depth scale is set to AUTO.
My Garmin striker 4 has been running the model demonstration mode. How can I adjust it to the normal working mode? I can't find a way to adjust, thank you!
Is it stuck in simulator mode?
Check this out ua-cam.com/video/jAp1PUeATZw/v-deo.html
If this does not help a possible factory reset is in order.
Is your transducer attached?
@@1Cast1Fish Your reply is very useful and has given me great help. Thank you!
Hey, how I could adjust the time on the striker plus 4? It is on wrong time and date ( oct 2015), thanks!
The time and date auto update when the fish finder is on and has GPS signal. You can adjust time zones and such by going to settings, units, and scroll down to select time zone, time format, ect
Can I turn up the volume on my garment for deeper alarm
If far instances I have to give my location to the coastguard while am at sea. How do I give a effective location from my GPS?
The best number to give the Coast Guard in an emergency is the GPS Position....if you go to waypoint map, then menu....go to overlay numbers, then change one of your overlays to show GPS Position....this is what you want. Also as a side note if I was a ways from land or other boats, a marine radio (which should have a emergency button) and a location emergency beacon are all good options...I would not rely on the fish finder 100%
Does the home screen have a actual picture of fish when you are marking fish
You can turn on the Fish ID Icons when using the traditional sonar
I have just got the striker plus 4 but when I want to adjust the keel depth, there's not option. Just temp offset and transducer type. Ant reason why this is? System update maybe?
Thats a bit odd as it should be a standard adjustment on all models. There is no way to update the software on the Striker 4 series either. I assume the transducer is attached?
@@1Cast1Fish yeah all attatched. It doesn't bother be as my boat has a shallow Hull but just wondered if it was an issue anyone else had?
You can always try a factory reset and see if that helps...but it should be in there hidden somewhere.
The real use is for large vessels with deep hulls and mounted transducers...on most fishing boats it should not be off by more than 6" to a foot.
@@1Cast1Fish so after looking at the functions whilst in simulator mode, I've found the keel adjust.
Awesome to hear
how can i adjust the fish finder volume on my garmin striker 4?
I do not thing the volume is adjustable...sorry
I have a striker 4 and it doesn’t read the correct depth. For example I’d fish an area I know is around 150-200ft but it would read 800ft. Is there a way to calibrate? Or is it just a faulty unit?
You can calibrate the depth, but it really more for a few feet type of difference based on things like keel depth and offsets. No way should you have that big of difference. Have you double checked your pins and connections? Factory reset?
@@1Cast1Fish what should I look out for when I check the pins ? I have tried factory reset it didn’t fix the issue
Just make sure they are not bent, broken, or missing. If everything looks good I would call Garmin as the unit may be defective.
I rent boats when I go on fishing trips. Does the transducer need to be mounted to the boat? Or can I simply hang it over the side?
I have my entire unit mounted to a 1foot piece of 2x4. I used a 1 foot piece of 3/4” PVC pipe mounted to the side of the board, with the transducer mounted to the bottom of pipe. I use a C clamp to hold it on the side of my kayak, or can move it to a small rowboat I have in minutes. Works great! Hope this makes sense.
Perfect for a easy to use package for different rental boats
@@1Cast1Fish so, it'll work without being mounted to the boat? I can just lower it over the side?
Yes over the side will work, but it must be mounted on a arm to hold it steady and flat
Tom, I got my mounting idea off of a UA-cam video about making a DIY mount for Kayaks. I wish I could remember the exact one, but scan some of them and you’ll see some great ideas! Best of luck to you! 👍
