By far THE BEST REVIEW I've found on UA-cam. Excellent straight forward and comprehensive that's easy to understand.
Thank you very much
Love your videos! Always very clear and precise, and detailed information! 👍👍 I’ve hardly used my standard Striker..but after seeing this might have to upgrade to the CV.🤔 Thanks as always for making these videos to help us out! Best wishes!
I love my basic Striker 4, but I am leaning hard at getting a Striker 4 Plus....might go CV, but we will see. As the channel has more success, it will give me the chance to do so.
Awesome breakdown brotha. Sold me on the Plus. The mapping feature is a must
Plus is the best overall IMO....perfect for just about everything the average weekend angler needs
You did a great job, simply and clearly explaining all of the features, this video clarified my next purchase, thanks for the video.
Glad it was helpful!
A well-done video and very helpful figuring out the confusing descriptions between these various models. Thank you very much
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
I have 4cv and use in a upper harbor scenario mostly. I find clear vue works best on fast scroll at slower speeds for accurately getting on top of guts that target species use to get to and from shallower feeding areas. GPS of course puts one there about but CV is quite exacting in getting the correct point of anchor. Nice informative video as usual.
The CV is a great feature once you learn how to use it...just like our fish finders...they are only as good as our knowledge is on how to work them. Glad you enjoyed the video and good luck out on the water
Many thanks for a clear and super infirmative description of the product. Im a buyer and can now buy what i need, no mistakes.
Awesome...glad this helped out....they really are great fish finders for the price...can't go wrong
I have a vivid and I could not be happier. At $180 it's an unbelievable bargain. I've had a lot of finders and this is hands down the best and easiest to navigate. I use it on my kayak
It is a lot of fish finder for the price...and it has been very reliable for me as well
👍
I learn something new everytime I watch one of your videos. Simple information is just my speed. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Awesome, thank you!
I know im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot my account password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@Gianni Thiago Instablaster ;)
@Frederick Jamal i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Frederick Jamal It worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out !
I just found your UA-cam page and have learned so much about my new Garmin Striker 4. What I haven't seen yet and may be missing it, is a discussion on the difference between a track and a route and how to best set them up. Is this available? Thank you for such great teaching skills!
Glad you are enjoying and finding everything useful. I will be going over tracks and routes in coming classes. Be sure to check out my latest classes #1-4
Thank you very much!! You put the info all together! Wonderful. John from Cape Cod
You're very welcome! Thank you :)
Best video on these devices. Was able to watch it and decide which model to get. Thanks man.
Glad I could help! Thanks
Thanks a lot, man. Your tutorial helped me a lot. Thanks for sharing this video.
Awesome glad to hear that
Great video. Just the type of feature comparison I needed.
Great to hear!
Great video I had a garmin striker plus 4 on my last fishing kayak it was a great fish finder
I love it as well....hard to beat fo rthe price
Straight to the point review! Thanks
Glad you liked it...thank you
Great tutorial for fishing. Thank you for sharing. 💞
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video - I’m a subscriber now 👍🏽. Would love to see the 4 portable on this video too
I agree, I need to do some stuff with the portable or at least go over the diffrences
I can’t say enough about how much your videos have helped me develop the use and perfect the ability of my striker
It always makes me happy to hear these have helped
Great video thank you for the time you put into this! Great help!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you
Very helpful video, that extra mapping feature on the plus and plus cv seems really nice. I’ve got some ponds I’d love to make maps of.
It is perfect for that....the Plus is a great buy
Plus 4v is awesome! Totally worth the money
They are pretty darn awesome for the money
@@1Cast1Fish best bang for your buck! Don't think there any fish finder as accurate and features such as the plus 4cv on the market
@@shorelinefishingmafia6133 Can't agree more
Man this is really cool. I appreciate you breaking it down. I still don't know what I would chose, but I need to get one 😂
For LOW and our area waters the Striker 4 Plus would be perfect....or go CV if you got the extra coin.
I find when the price difference is this small just go with the best model they got. Then you’ll never miss a feature and always be happy with your purchase.
Another superb video clear and concise thank you Nick UK
Very welcome...thank you for watching
Just ordered the Striker 4 From Academy. thanks for the videos .
You are welcome and good luck on the water
Very good video, easy to understand and differences is units clearly explained.
Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
EXCELLENT comparison video. Best by far!
Nice job!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for the in-depth review of the Striker 4 series.
No problem...any questions and I will do my best to help....glad you enjoy
Thank you very much. You are amazing with your experiences.
Thank you very much
Best, Clear video. THANKS
Glad you think so! Thank you
Dude you could teach a college course on this fish finder series. Really great explanations. I was thinking about getting one for my tarpon 140, this helps a lot.
It would be a great addition...I would definitely get the Plus or Plus CV given the waters I see you fish.
This is the best breakdown and overviews of sonar I've found ,you've about sold me on the Garmin and I'm fixing to buy a Finder for my Bass Raider 10e , I do alot if Catfishing Bluegill Shell Cracker etc,, fishing , there's a awesome Number of oxbow lakes Here In my area that are mostly untouched when it comes to Catfishing , Several are directly ajoined thru a small "Drain" to the main river Channel Cats follow those small water passages during floods into these lakes and many stay in the lake as waters receed , I have to find a way to see the bottom and what and where these fish holding locations are ,I think the Garmin may be the Ticket ,,
It definitely will get the job done, and hard to beat at the price...good luck. I bet some big ones lurk in those ponds like that
@@1Cast1Fish Indeed, I'm A Retired Conservation Officer , Was Acting Area Manager On the Pascagoula River WMA For About A Year , But I had Worked There On The Area For About 6 years As Assistant , Then Moved to full time Law Enforcement , I helped Stock These Lakes With All Different species of Fish Many Many Many Times Over As The States Hatcheries Had Fingerlings Available , These Oxbow Lakes Have For the most Part Never been used With Catfish The Target Species WITH The Exception Of The Flood Times Of The Year , I Know This Because I Spent Many Many Hours Working On This Area , Rarely Did I ever find someone targeting Catfish , lotsa Bass Fishing, Or Panfish Fishermen But Catfishing was as a rule always on the main live river Channel , IF I'm Right ,And I Hope I Am, These Oxbows Are A Treasure Trove , I'll Find Out Soon The Depths , Composition, Contour ,And Structure , I'm guessing some have natural Seams of Flowing Water like a small Creek bed maybe in the bottom , this will be an adventure Beyond Doubt And The Garmin Now Has A Mapping Setting As I am positive No In-depth mapping out of these Oxbows Exist ,they're simply indicated on a small map and not all are included In those , let's hope I'm Right, Thanks Any Additional information on The Garmin And Seeing Bottom Structure, Catfish , Determining A Silited Muddy Bottom ,Or A Sandy Or Harder Bottom ,Etc ,, Would be great , I Know Some But By No Means Am I A Pro With Sonars , Thanks Again I've Watched The Entire Set Of These Tutorial On the Garmin , Good Job On These Videos
Sounds like you got a plan... the Garmin contour mapping is pretty good for those type of areas that have no existing maps and it will do it with 1ft contour changes. Hope you checked out some of the latest classes I have been doing as they really dive into the settings on the Striker series.
Thanks kindly for you short, yet to-the-point spec comparison video. 👌
Glad you liked it!
@@1Cast1Fish Thanks mate. Was enough to convince me to buy the Strike plus 4 about an hour after watching. Have it in my hands now. Can wait to get out on the water and test it out.
Man, they're really making those things with some great features. They didn't have that auto-mapping when I bought mine a few years ago.
That mapping is by far the coolest feature on them...I would have bought the Plus model if I had it to do over again.
Among all videos on sonars I have watched so far, yours are clearly the best: to the point, concise, and clear. I have a brief question. Comparing the specs of the recently released Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv to those of Striker Plus 4cv, it seems that the only difference is that the Vivid has new color palettes. Apart form that it is essentially the same unit, isn't it?
That is one major change...the vivid line looks to replace the plus and cv
@@1Cast1Fish Thanks, I suspected so. Yet another brief question if you don't mind. I guess you have been asked it more than once but I didn't manage to find it in comments. Given that Garmin is replacing their Striker Plus line by the Vivid, there are very interesting offers of Plus 5cv that are starting to pop up. I am in the position to buy a sonar for my sea kayak and the natural doubt is, of course, whether to go for a Plus 5cv or a Vivid 4cv. Money wise it is very similar, so it is a larger screen vs a newer but seemingly the same model... I'd really appreciate some words of wisdom on this matter :)
@@p33ii if you have plenty of money or like the latest and greatest go vivid. Other than that if you get a great deal the plus and plus cv are awesome
Very informative video. Two enthusiastic thumbs up :)
Thanks for liking
very good comparison man , In right in time , Im working on my mini boat and looking for an affordable fish finder ....
This is it....go Plus or Plus CV and never look back.
Thanks again for your garmin series. While your doing comparisons, can you comment on the Ecomap series of fishfinder. I kayak on the Northern California coast and inland lakes. Questions:
1. Are they as waterproof as the Striker series? 2. Are the charts preloaded in the units adequate or are there better charts for the California coast and inland lakes? 3. Could this work on a kayak? I have been caught in the fog where you can’t see the coastline, but I used the waypoints to get home (thank you for the instruction). I thought it would be nice to visualize the coastline if I’m ever stuck in the fog again. I continually return to your channel for instruction. Keep up the good work.
Wish I could help more, but I am not familiar with the Echo Series fish finders....here is what I do know
1. Are they as waterproof as the Striker series? Yes, they have the same IPX-7 rating
2. Are the charts preloaded in the units adequate or are there better charts for the California coast and inland lakes?
Honestly it would be hard for me to say since I have never used those charts and have never fished CA...I would hate to steer you the wrong direction.
3. Could this work on a kayak? I don't see why not, many people use higher end units on their kayaks all the time...it will have more features than the Strikers.
Man I went back and forth between these 3 and the Lowrance for my kayak. I ended up going with the Lowrance just in case one of my boat Lowrances go down. Always love how you break everything down!!!
Thank you and hope you enjoy your new fish finder
1Cast 1Fish your welcome and I hope so!

Woow so nice sir thank you for being identified the item will be on use current location for fishing area.

Good video comparing these models . Cool they are a bit waterproof. Looks better than my old black n white fish finder lol Good information. Stay safe and have a great night bud .
Sounds like time for a upgrade to color :) How's your fishing been lately?
@@1Cast1Fish it's been ok , cold.front has messed up the big girls coming shallow for now . Yeah I haven't used mine for my kayak in over two years since I never have used my kayak on a video once lol
Very helpful. Great job with your videos.
Thank you very much
Awesome video and great information as always my friend!
Thanks again!
Another very informative video. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Well explained, of the course the dearer one is the best but hey when you are a serious fisherman why not, how about what they use on the big boats out there, some os them are amazing.
Yeah some of the really advanced sonars are $3,000 or more....crazy how much technology they put into these things. Even funnier though is that people pay thousands for a advanced sonar and never learn how to use it to the fullest.
Very helpful; thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks
Congratulations!
First video with essential information to define a good purchase. Thank you for the informations.
Do you have comparison of Striker 4cv Plus vs Striker 5cv Plus?
Grateful.
I do not a video comparing the 4 vs the 5, but I can tell you they are the same pretty much except the 5 has a slightly larger screen.
i have garmin striker plus 4cv its great for money. i bought because of clearvu its showing much better and easy to spot predator fish.
The Clearvu is a great feature once you get it figured out and learn to really use it to the max along with your 2D sonar....good luck
Great video. Thank you for sharing.
You are very welcome
Another really good one. Thank you.,
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you
Great description video as usual!
Can you please explain which end of the transducer is pointing forward/backward?
Normally the side with the cord coming from it is the front (part mounted to the boat rear)
@@1Cast1Fish The cord is located in the middle...

Thank u so much bro for this video. It helps a lot
Awesome to hear, glad it helps ... thank you
I wish I have seen this video before I have ordered my garmin strike 4 , it’s nice video explaining the difference between the three units.
Is garmin striker 4 good enough for onshore kayak fishing ?
In our country the sea is very deep just few distance the sea can be up to 100m deep.
Should work fine ...its great for kayaking
Thank you, that was a good explanation.
Glad you liked it...Thank you

Glad to hear that...Thanks
Teriffic video! Are there any drawbacks to mounting these to the hull of my kayak (using duct seal) Especially curious about the 4cv vivid scanning tech. I fish a pretty shallow lake (8ft max). Trying to figure out my best option. Thanks in advance and keep up the great videos! 👍
Also - Is there a way to find a template for the base? I want to know if my RAM mount 7 holed baseplate will fit.
Should work fine thru hull...just make sure the mounting for the transducer is solid and no air gaps.....as far as mounts the one I use is linked in the description …that is the only one I have tried.
Great video as always. Quick question do they use the same cable? And transducer?
No they do not...the units with CV have a special transducer.
Another great video. You're fun to watch. I have a 27.5 foot pleasure boat that does not have a depth finder and I'd like to know how far I am from the bottom when I drop anchor. I bought the Striker 4 and have not yet installed it. Then, I watched this video and thought it would maybe be worth the extra coinage for the plus 4 cv. However, I noticed the pixels are not as good on the 4 inch models and i appreciate sharper images. Though the fish finding capability is an added bonus, I really just want to know the depth of the water I'm in and don't fish as much as I'd like to. So, perhaps I'm good with what I got. What is your opinion of the lower quality resolution of the 4 inch models? Money is not really an issue, I don't mind spending more money for a better product.
I would go with the Striker Plus model, this will give you the added contour feature which will be very helpful in the long run. Don't get caught up on the pixels, the screens are plenty clear. Also if you want a bigger screen, look at the 5 and 7 series fish finders, a bit more money, but a much bigger screen, which may be useful on a 27' boat.
@@1Cast1FishThank you, Oh Great One. Also, of the 5 and 7 series, do you have any solid recommendations?
I would still stick with the Plus models since the contour mapping is really nice....especially on a bigger boat with a deeper draft.
Awesome video ty
Glad you enjoyed it
Well done sir!
Thank you
Nice video, keep on 👍👍🇩🇰🇺🇸
Thank you, glad you enjoyed
Awesome bro!!! 👌
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you very much
You are welcome
This video is very helpful
Thank you
Thanks for this video as it really helped my choice. So I just ordered the plus 4 cv. Do you know if the plus 4 and the plus 4 cv use the same transducer?
No they do not the CV models have a bigger transducer that gives you the down imaging capability. The Plus shares the same transducer as the standard base model Striker
Very well done! However, now the Vivid 4CV is out on the market. Obviously the Vivid and the 4+CV have different transducers and I want to use this thing year round, so the bigger transducers are not conducive for use on the ice so one would have to get the ice fishing transducer. I'm guessing you would not have the Clear View functionality unless you were using the supplied transducer. So my question is is it worth it to get the top of the line when the supplied transducer can't be used when ice fishing?
So one option is to buy the compatible Ice Transducer for the Vivid 4 Cv or which ever fishfinder, same functionality in an ice package.
Tq👍
Glad you enjoyed
Nice comparison review my pal..👍😊
Thanks 👍
@@1Cast1Fish ur welcome👍😊
I just bought the striker 4cv based on your tutorial. Do you have any tutorials on the cv? I had the striker 4 for several years, and it was a great little depth finder but I felt it was time for a step up.
Don't tell anyone, but I think there may be a new CV in my near future :)
So on the mapping, which is an awesome feature as I fish mostly small reservoirs, does it store the various maps that it makes, or are the maps only there for that one trip? thanks. awesome videos btw.
It will keep them and add to them each trip
thanks alot
Most welcome
I ordered off amazon, $107, I think it’s just the regular, good enough for this budget fisherman. Edit: I like that clearvu tho, been wanting to try it...some day
They are all great fishfinders, you should be very happy with it
Honestly, I’m glad I got the CV but if I already had one of the other models I’m not sure I’d buy a whole new one just for the feature.
The cv is very very worth it
Hey Is the cv worth it in a kayak. I’m mostly in lakes and reservoirs, but most of the time I’m either slowly paddling or drifting along with the wind. Do you need to be moving/going a certain speed for cv to be useful or does it work while anchored/slowly drifting? Thanks!
The CV is a great choice if your really picking apart structure or want a better graphic image of what's under the kayak....or if you got the extra cash and want the most features. In most instances the Plus model is the best model for the majority of average anglers.
tq info
Thanks
Great video, thanks for taking the time to thoroughly explain the details to make a better choice. Do any of these units offer side view or side scanning?
The Striker 4 series does not offer Side Vu
How do they compare on power consumption? Thinking of going with the Nocqua Pro 10 Ah Pro Power battery and the Striker Plus 4cv.
I got 30+ non stop hours on my 10 Ah and Striker 4....it will last a long time on what ever fish finder you choose.
Great video, I'm interesting in purchasing a Garmin striker 4. Do you have any videos in "how to install the transducer "? I have a small 12 foot Alumacraft. I've seen it installed on the left & right sides or on the trolling motor. Any assistance would be great. You are spreading a great depth of knowledge about the depth finder. Your presentation is well delivered and in a very simple form of instruction.👍🐟
I have a few with installing the transducer inside the hull, but on a a kayak. Where are you mounting the fish finder? If on the bow, I would do a trolling motor mount...if in the rear or on a mid console I would mount it on the rear. If you have an outboard you want to go behind your boat and then mount it to the right side....not left. The install instructions are also pretty good with templates if needed as well.
@@1Cast1Fish I want to mount the depth finder on the starboard side in the middle portion of the boat. Should I mount the transducer on the trolling motor which I using from the rear? A friend mentioned mounting the transducer in the front to see what's in front instead of underneath. Any advice would help. Thanks for replying.👍
Ok, so your trolling motor is on the rear...I would place the transducer on the starboard side rear. front may pick up alot of interferance.
@@1Cast1Fish Thank you 0nce again, " Keep your lines tight!"
You as well
I've watched your video on installing a transducer in the hull of a kayak, I would think that would effect the out come of the performance of the transducer, or does it?
Nope no issues if installed correctly
Best video
Thank you
Great videos! Question. Do you have to mount the Plus CV transducer outside or can it also be inside like the others?
Depends...most have no issues, but a few have. Most issues are from bad mounting though. Gotta make sure there is no air gap and things sit even and horizontal with the water
@@1Cast1Fish Ah I see. I purchased the Plus 4 and was planning on mounting the transducer on the inside like you did in one of your videos. I'm wondering if mounted correctly the CV transducer will work the same. Deciding if I should return the one I got for the CV or just stick with what I have for my kayak. Any thoughts?
The CV will work in most scenarios without issue, most issues are poor mounting... however I have seen a few that did not work for whatever reason, but it is rare.
Fishing for pelagics in deep water where I mostly just need to find bait balls and schools of tuna. Looks like maybe the basic model would be fine? Do the larger screens make a noticeable difference in being able to see the details on the screen?
Honestly if I was targeting those types of fish and conditions a larger screen would be better. once you get over about 100ft or so...you will wish you had a bigger screen normally...just makes the smaller sized targets easier to see.
This might be a dumb question, but to use the mapping feature on the plus you don’t need WiFi or cell phone service right?
Correct, everything is internal to the fishfinder
i am new to fishing...i am interested and my #1 need is to be able to come back to port from where i left off in case of heavy rain and fog wherein visibility is zero....will the GPS feature work on this? i will be using it in rivers in Asia....since we can not download maps to it. thanks
Yes it will work...however I would definitely recommend the 4 Plus for this type of thing. Bigger screen, and the contour mapping may be useful. Also I never recommend going out if conditions are that bad or expected to be bad.
Do you have a video on mounting the Garmin striker 4. I want to be sure I mount the transponder in the right place
I do for in hull mounting, but their are many mounting options.
