Gellert Grindelwald's reasons for wizarding supremacy remind me of Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus from Star Wars Legends. Jacen became a Sith Lord because he saw a vision of a future where the galaxy was ruled by a man far worse than himself. He believed that he and he alone could avert this disaster. Essentially, it was extreme hubris.
If I’m correct cause I read the books didn’t he see his uncle Luke on the throne?
In many ways, Grindelwald was the more powerful of the two. Had Voldemort gone up against a Gellert in his prime, he'd have lost. Instead he murdered an elderly, unarmed man. Voldy was a coward. He wasn't even willing to battle Dumbledore himself.
Voldemort became You Know Who because he surpassed Grindelwald...
@@headstrongbachelor3152true but he or she sorry dude if you are a guy talking about the person you replied to. Their right Voldy was a coward. If he fought Grindelwald in his prime he would die before he could make any Horcuxs.
Voldemort was far more stronger and advanced than Grindelwald. Thats why he did not need to charm people to join him. People joined him after witnesses him defeating and kill the greatest of wizards during the first wizarding war and already there he had a huge army consisted by magical folks he bewitched and dark creatures. He even made Dumbledore doubt himself...
@@jedipadwan20Laughable come on you know he allready had 2 horcruxes when only at school? The diary and the ring...
Don't know about that. There are reasons Voldemort replaced Grindelwald as the Most Dangerous and Powerful Dark Wizard
“You were my hero growing up. I read all your speeches, hundreds of times. You were the only dark wizard who was nearly as powerful as me.”
“Buddy… you think you’re a Dark Lord? You’re so scared of death you made horcruxes. You’re just a cheap f__king knockoff.”
“Oh, no no no… I’m the upgrade.”
"Death is the fall from power my confused dying old man. "As long I can live forever I can forever increase my power and in the end the universe will be my kingdom".
I understood this reference
I did not
@@ash__________ dude it’s the BOYS
My brain can’t seem to read this without doing it in Soldier Boy and Homelander’s voices lol
Voldemort was driven by ego and grindlewald was driven by ego but had a grander vision for an ideal world. His version of an ideal world atleast. Voldemort wanted muffles eliminated but grindlewald wanted them led by a strong leader or leaders. Him and Dumbledore
Grindelwald wanted to enslave the muggle race. He was no different from Voldemort.
@@headstrongbachelor3152 looks like ur a muggle!!! No wonder u hate grindlewald......
Long live grindlewald....
I will make sure to continue his legacy but lemme first clear those goddamn N.E.W.T.S and O.W.L then i will make my way into the ministry of magic and start my mission from there..
I will add that if there is another thing in common is their attitude towards witches and wizards who lost to them. Voldemort said he is not interested in shedding magical blood, and that he have much respect to the teachers of Hogwarts. When Harry didn't really die but seemed dead in Hagrid's arms, he said that he would give them a chance to live and forgive them on everything if they join his ranks. And believe me that had Voldemort won some would have joined him, some would have chosen life. Gellert also gave a chance to wizard kind in joining without harm. So that is another similarity. Also I bet Gellert didn't know anything about Horcruxes because he never wanted to be immortal.
Mads Mikkleson was fantastic as Gellert Grindelwald, but Johnny Depp made the character iconic
There is only one Depp
Idk, the Depp version was overdone, I can't imagine anyone being compelled to follow this version of Grindelwald
@@Laura-pk2fd bro depp's grindelwald looked like a "dark wizard" ... its an established fact that practising extreme dark arts can alter one's appearance ( like it did to voldemort) and depp's grindlewald did looked like a dark wizard...... mads mikkleson's performance was good but he looked more of an rouge wizard with ambition rather than a straight up "dark wizard"
But this is just my opinion .... i respect ur opinion as well
Loved Depp especially his speech in Crimes of Grindelwald
Mads was Gellert 🎉. I literally wanted to follow everything he was saying. Deps was good, but by no means Grindelwald as the book Described Grindelwald. Grindelwald was loved not only feared he was charismatic. Made people believe in him. Voldemort looked differently because he split his soul apart. Mads made me fully believe dumbledore would get on his knees for him. Where, as dep it would’ve been the opposite.
Video idea: What would have happened if Voldemort had shown remorse at the very end? Would anything have changed then or in the future?
Grindelwald kills for a reason, he doesn’t kill himself unless he has to. That’s the major reason. Gellert killed only to push his campaign falward.
"The wizarding equivalent of Adolf Hitler". Exactly. I always felt that's what Rowling was doing here. When she describes Voldy's voice as high and cold, I think she intended to copy the high pitched "tenor" speaking voice of Hitler...not the "falsetto" voice often employed by Stephen Fry (much as I LOVE his audiobooks). It is Hitler's high-pitched, male, piercingly cold voice that was the model.
Thanks for yet another good video Dean! You've been uploading consistently lately
I've always been a bit confused about how house points are kept track of at Hogwarts. Think you could make a video about it for us? Love you.
They have gems that keep track, one for each house as points are given and taken they're kept count. Gems are emeralds for Slytherin, rubies for Gryffindor, sapphires for Ravenclaw and diamonds for Hufflepuff
@@minhajnizam5090thank you but I would like to see a video explanation of it.
Video suggestion:Grindelwald vs Voldemort..who would win the duel
Its canon that Voldemort is more powerful than Grindelwald.
The difference between Voldemort and Grindelwald is that Voldemort, unlike Grindelwald, had no delusions of righteousness. He didn't care what other people thought of him; he was looking out for number one and no one else. Whereas Grindelwald cared about his image and so wore nice clothes and lived in a castle, Voldemort was happy to camp out in a abandoned house or stay in the home of one of his followers whilst wearing plain robes. Likewise, where Grindelwald held himself to some moral standards, twisted as they may have been, Voldemort just did whatever he pleased. He didn't want to die, so he undertook various experiments to protect himself, including the creation of multiple Horcruxes. He wanted power, and so he took it, destroying anything that got in his way. He hated Muggles and Muggleborns, so he killed them.
He simply had no regard or respect for the lives of anyone but himself and Nagini, who kept him company and helped him remain as strong as possible in his rudimentary body. This is shown when he meets Grindelwald, who one might think would be the one person he would have respect for given their similar goals. He didn't. He treated Grindelwald as he did everyone else: as an obstacle, an insect whose only worth was in what he could give him. The closest thing he ever shows to genuine respect for someone other than Nagini is righteous indignation over Hepzibah Smith's assertion that his mother had been a thief, not the rightful owner of Slytherin's Locket, but that was likely just because he felt personally insulted by the implication that his family wasn't special, and neither was he.
Overall, Voldemort just didn't have the limits and principles holding him back that Grindelwald did. There was nothing he would not do to achieve his goals.
Grindelwald had no regard for human life when it came to the greater good. Anyone who defied the greater good was sent to torture or death. Thats why he created his fortress. It was a prison for his enemies to be tortured.
One had a nose the other didn’t
The primary difference between Voldemort and Grindelwald is that Voldemort never cared about political idealism. He was devoted to push the boundaries of magic and surpass himself for all eternity.
Another great video!!!
I was literally hoping you’d make a video on this😂 thanks for reading my mind man!
Funny thing is that while Voldy was more evil, GG was the bigger threat. We heard a little of what GG did to Europe has a whole but Voldy doesn’t seem to have done much outside of the UK.
Voldemort was a threat to the whole world. The first wizarding war marked him as the most powerful and dangerous dark wizard of all time.
Grindelwald is capable of loving another person, Voldemort is not. Thats the biggest difference i can think of.
Long live gellert grindlewald
I will make sure to carry on his legacy
Once i clear those goddamn O.W.L's and N.E.W.T.S at hogwarts and get a job in ministry of magic.. thats where my mission will start
P.s: i am currently a 5th year student at hogwarts and Potions is my fav subject...... i like to watch ur videos because it feels good to see muggles like u speculating about our superior wizard kind...
I would love to see a new book about Malfoy trying to correct his family's wrongs by working with muggle scientist to essentially make everyone a wizard with gene therapy in a vaccine and to do things such as sending a sending a rover to Mars that has been rendered into a port key so people can essentially teleport to & from Mars.
The idea is that Malfoy is the hero of the story while everyone else is the antagonist such as Harry Potter who forgot who he once was as a child, perhaps Harry Potter once dreamed of becoming an astronaut. You could have the magical world arrest muggle borns who hot rod a classic car with magic or open up a magical beauty salon for muggle customers who're shown to have tolerance for the witch who owns & operate the business such as hugging her & inviting her out to get some coffee with other muggle women.
So...Grindewald was WWI and Voldemort was WWII? In that case, who would personify the Cold War? And, with the Pandemic taking place during the school years of Harry's kids, could Albus Severus, Lily Luna or James Sirius have been left an impression from that? Relieved that the Wizarding World wouldn't be harmed by the Coronavirus but frustrated by the Wizarding World refusing to help the Muggles that have been more affected? Wouldn't be surprised if Harry and/or his kids had either started an underground potions exchange to help the Muggles fight the virus or, one of the Potter kids leading a movement to finally combine the world of Wizards and Muggles together in harmony.
Dumbledore/Grindelwald: Dominimort, Masters of death. Tom Marvolo Riddle: Voldemort, Flight of death
I really would be curious about some of the these stories
I haven't watched the 'Fantastic Beasts' series... Johnny is a great actor, Mads is also... But I think Mads portrayal of Grindelwald you get Grindelwald's actual look
So! In the medieval age when humans only had swords and shields magicians had to go in hiding, but that's when they have guns, military planes and nuclear bombs that Grindelwald want to reveal magicians?
There should be a clean cut between the lords who lead with a social cause or agenda and those who write and inspire. there is no competition as these types feed each other in spiral dynamics as opposed to mutual annihilation
Why were they different from? From what I can tell they were the same as two peas
The beast of burden must always be necessary, which is true. Grindelwald had the right idea, but executed viciously
Gallery Grindelwald wasn’t an psychopath and obsessed
Voldemort did not age? That would have required a Philosopher's Stone, not Horcruxes.
Its said that the horcruxes made Voldemort ageless.
@@headstrongbachelor3152 Where?
Do a VS video
Grindelwald was not really a blood purest. He used the pureblood movement to his advantage but he did not truly believe that muggleborns were inferior. And had many muggleborns in his ranks. Voldemort on the other hand truly came to believe that the purebloods were the ones that were worthy to wield magic
Voldemort is like your average android/robot no feelings of love.
I do feel bad for them though being single out and unloved by almost everyone 😞
Magneto vs. Green Goblin, personality-wise.
Great vid. I think it portrays Grindelwald as not evil though, which I disagree with. Yes, he was less evil than Voldemort, despite being around the same level of magical power. And yes, some of his messaging is actually quite logical. But I think he did a lot of things that you can't justify, in other words, he did not live up to the greater good that he claimed to be representing. I think of Grindelwald kind of like Thanos. Sure, some of his ideas were logical, but the path he took to reach those ends revealed his true evil/power hungry character, just like Grindelwald. Again, not as evil as Voldemort, and not evil for the sake of being evil, but Grindelwald wasn't simply some political figure who had opposing views to the characters we consider to be protagonists. He definitely was power hungry, and left behind destruction, showing little remorse for his actions. They are quite different, and Voldy is def far worse because he only cares about himself.
Grindawald wanted to give his kind a voice in a way Voldemort killed anyone who would stand in his way even his own blood they do have points but their is a time and place for everything🩸
Grindelwald is better
Grindelwald wanted immortality in the sense of the world remembering him as the man who led wizard and witch kind in finally coming out of hiding and taking "their rightful place" in the world.
were they wimpy or not
imagine voldy won? like you said he'd rule forever which would technically be what a few billion years until the sun explodes? lol thinking about that kinda adds weight to the battle of Hogwarts
Can you please do a list of which deatheaters would have followed grindelwald
As time went on they both could’ve learned from the mistakes they made and the consequences next generation to
darks😃😂 BUT INTERESTING case studies lol!
The obvious historical comparison is Kaiser Wilhelm and Adolf Hitler.
So Voldemort follow the ideas of himself being above others. And to establish his own imperialist system .Voldemort would use societies, darkest elements and characters. To overthrow. It’s world governing body.
While Grindelwald . Was actually a fascist. Telling his people that they were dangerously outmatched by a foreign adversary. Grindelwald wished to remove the classes. It didn’t matter if you were part of the ministry. Good or evil. As far as he was concerned, everyone of his blood was under threat.
Their main difference is that Grindelwald has nose and hair
You know that wizards have there own versions of guns like say a locket that stores a lot of killing curses and other spells like Salazar Slytherin's locket or rather something similar which acts as a machine gun or an eagle with an explosive curse which acts as a nuclear bomb seriously stop underestimating magic.
Oh wait what about crystals they could act as bombs stop being an idiot Harry Potter folklore.
Cus grindelwald had a nose and voldemort didn't a sad story 😢😢
People compare him to Grindelwald in movies. I preferer Voldemort for the most part. The movies showed him in some ways more powerful than in books. He is more intelligent in most ways, used more powerful magic, invented his own spells, finished Hogwards, never been captured ànd managed to avoid defeat from the hands of Dumbledore despite the latter having the elder wand. Voldemort was in his 70s during second Wizarding war. Grindelwald was defeated in his 50s. Tom Riddle hid his crimes way better as a student and didn't get expelled compare to Grindelwald.
Wisdom, divination and magical knowledge goes to Grindelwald. Grindelwald was able to shield his mind from Voldemort later in life, despite being imprisoned for over 50 years, knew more about the world and could see the future to some extent. Voldemort failed to properly intercept the prophesy, and got confused over the ownership of the Elder Wand. Due to him being a seer, Grindelwald can be aware of certain things ahead of the time, as well as having a greater intuition and perception. "There is so, so much you do not understand," Grindelwald told him in books. I am 1000% sure he knew Voldemort's horcruxes.
Grindelwald choose to be for the people, rather than for himself. I am pretty sure Grindelwald choose Hallows over Horcruxes, mainly because he never sought immortality, and wasn't like Voldemort. Grindelwald definitely knew about this piece of dark magic, and what it does to a person, but never pursued it; he wanted to enjoy life...
Grindelwald was the most powerful dark wizard before Voldemort, but I have a feeling that he peaked magically by his own desire, not by talent limitations, since books don't say much about him.
Voldemort is more powerful, both in books and movies, due to him being the main antagonist. The Dark Lord is very underrated here on UA-cam.
Some statements about him in books:
The greatest dark wizard of all time COS
The most feared dark Wizard for a hundred years POA
The most powerful dark wizard in a century GOF
The most powerful dark wizard of all time HBP
The most dangerous dark wizard of all time HBP
#1 on the list of most dangerous dark wizards of all time DH
The most powerful dark wizard of all time Pottermore.
Also on screen, Voldy performs more advanced magic. Black smoke out of his manuers, flying, his multiple ways of apparating and dissaparating, surviving water orb, destroying windows in the ministry and knocking Dumbledore out, not being hurt by glass in the ministry, how he possessed Harry and then became invisible, dissiparating out of ministry, surviving electricity shock while flying in Deathly Hallows 1, destroying the protective shield around Hogwards, getting into multiple wizards' minds at once. As far as we can tell, Grindelwald doesn't actually posses Legilemecy in movies, since he needed help from Quinee.
Speaking of the shield around Hogwards, that is the most powerful feat of any wizard in movies. ( Voldy doesn't actually say a spell and him not even being the true master of the Elder Wand. Not to mention all of the protective charms that were placed, both by the Harry’s allies and the four Hogwards' founders. That was the nuke of all spells.)
Grindelwald feats of magic that impressed me were healing Credence, showing his vision of the future and controlling the blue fire circle inside before it he let it out. ( Protego diabolica of course. The most powerful part about it was controlling it when it was circling around right before he dissaparated and unleased the fiendfire.)
Books never give us enough about Grindelwald's magical accomplishments. But overall, we could say that Grindelwald is the most powerful entity in HP universe due to his massive following. Politically, he is the most successful person in HP for sure. In all out war, he could win against Voldemort or Dumbledore really.
If it came to down to the overall war between the two, ( in their prime) I believe Grindelwald would have gone a great job hunting for Horcruxes completely by himself even better than Dumbledore, due to having access to his own precognition, skills in black magic, overall knowledge and other intuitive abilities of his own. Just by looking at Voldemort and knowing how his name translates to French, it will be obvious to Grindelwald.
nah Voldemort only had an effect on the British wizirdang world. Grinndewald was international he had a widespread effect on tar whole world that is still felt to this day. Voldemort might have been terrifying for the British but he will never have the effect on the wider world Grindewald had. And to be honest Grindewalds rhetoric reached a bigger audiance pureblood, half blood, muggle born as long as you were magical Grindewlad wanted you. Voldemort on the other side hated everyone but the pureloods and a few select talented half bloods, so his recuriment pool was significantly smaller. A man saying who is the statue of secrecy protecting us or them, then triggering the wizards memories of witch hunts and burnings on the stake. will always be more attractive than a man fighting for blood purity when the country he plunged in civil war have a late population of Half bloods and muggle borns and a large gathering of light sided purebloods it certainly did not help to have Dumbledore around Albus got em young and he had seven years to convert them to his way of thinking.
