High School Musical never really helped me through high school (school in Brazil makes the whole experience quite different tbh) but right now, graduating college? Gosh, I relate so much to the fear of "what's next?" and "I wish I could control my own future"... So yeah HSM is an amazing franchise that should have a better reputation than just "kid's movies".
Same, in my country HSM didn't help us "survive" High School - it made every kid fall in love with the "American dream" just to experience yellow buses and school which looks like the cafeteria from HSM or overall their whole building and lockers in the hallway...that's literally the first and main reason of exchange high school programs' raising popularity in my country in the 2010s. Not education, because that was secondary (or they didn't think about fancy colleges like Ivy League) - THE school, LIKE THE ONE from HSM - everyone wanted to attend an American high school, not the European one - even if they didn't like the USA as a country for their own different reasons, etc - they all wanted this school. Literally, this Trilogy started American obsession.
What's highschool like in Brazil as someone who lives in America
@@Gin_isnotmyname Not sure how to explain, but like... The experience that we see on tv shows with the lockers, cheerleaders, basketball teams/american football teams, AP classes, driving classes in school (that's crazy to be), yellow buses, etc. That doesn't exist in Brasil. It's very different. Like my school had the system where the students changed classes instead of teachers and we had homerooms, but that's not normal here. Usually, the class stays put and the teachers change rooms. This also changed recently, but when I was in school we only had classes in the morning (7 AM to 12:20 PM) and there's 3 periods you could have class: Morning, afternoon or night for high school students who work (or not, my old middle school only offered high school classes in the night period). Now we have integral classes (morning and afternoon only). Also, something that's quite different is that most students here in Brasil love PE classes, because we get to play games like Football and volleyball (I used to play chess with my teacher for extra points in my final grade). That's not all ofc, but its all I can think about now.
@@Gin_isnotmyname Also, relating to the whole "what's next" thing. There's not much pressure here in Brasil for us to go straight to college after school. Like I said, some high school students are already working during school and we have plenty of programs like SISU (which grants students places in public universities -- which are the best ones in Brasil), Prouni (Which grants free or 50% scholarship rides to paid universities in Brasil), FIES (which helps you finance your student loans and lets you pay it in many years instead of all at once), tests like FUVEST, UNICAMP and VUNESP that can get you into the three best universities in SP/Brasil and in all of those there's no age limit, so if you want to you can take those tests right after you leave school or 20 years later. So there's not a lot pressure towards that end. It's more after you're done with University that things like "what now?" come to mind.
The bully scene went right over my head back when I watched it. I was only about eight or something, but looking at it now, it's horrible. I mean just imagine for a second those weren't two guys, but girls. That would've NEVER gotten through.

@@growingupwithdisney she wanted to be explicitly asked out which isn’t a big ask it’s basically the thing to do for dances, it wasn’t the lack of grand gesture. Also Chad’s character is more relaxed and casual while Taylor is more type-a, so while to him it may not seem like a big deal to ask since they mutually like each other, Taylor wanted to be asked formally. Neither is wrong for that imo

As a class of 2022 I feel every moment of this movie and the fun thing is we were a graduation outfit during my senior chorus last concert. I love every minute of it and the excitement when we all graduate. Ugh 😣 it was so fun and seeing all ur friends moving on to college or life was sad but a great feeling.

I love the second movie (mostly because of it's music), but it's hard to deny that the spectacle of this movie makes it iconic

I agree with the college thing. I started dating my bf like, 2 months before i had to graduate from high school. I know he only took the chance to ask me out because he thought i was gonna go to the college in our town. But, I got a good scholarship to a college far from home and i just couldn't miss that amazing opportunity. We decided to keep dating and go long distance. It was awful. I don't recommend long distance to anyone, but i don't regret it. Now we're living together and it could not be any better lol. We got really lucky, I'll say that haha

I've said this before to other people but I was in high school for every single HSM movie and it was very bittersweet to see it end but I was in my 3rd year of high school. My junior year. Preparing to go to college and leave all of my friends behind and I honestly still have a hard time letting go because of it. Life moved on for my friends and I feel like I'm still in the same spot from 2010. HSM is such a fun series of movies that I love revisiting to kind of help me get my mind at ease and to also let out a good cry that I need.

I watched the movie in theaters as a kid and I still remember every little detail. Though I wasn’t in high school at the time, it encouraged me to pursue music and theater and also hold onto my passion for sports at the time.
@10:50 they were theatre sets and costumes instead of real locations because those musical scenes are the literal show they are putting together for the end of the film, it's deliberate

Just wanted to share a little story since you mentioned high school sweet hearts normally don't end up together. My sister and her husband met in high school, became friends, started dating their junior year, and then were together for 8 years before they finally got married.
This movie came out the year after I graduated high school and as someone who was a theater kid, growing up with HSM in it's hay day... it was an EVENT! I know you're doing Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure next but I REALLY hope you cover High School Musical: The Musical: The Series afterward. Watching it makes me feel like a kid again and brings me back to my time with my friends in theater. Also the cast is so damn talented!
I watched every movie on it's premiere or opening night, they helped me through alot of HS. I loved the music and choreography. The days when HSM was hype were some of the best times ever, the vote for Miley in the second movie, the debut of the first one came after a brand new episode of Zach and Cody, I remember cause I was a huge fan of the show. Once I seen Ashley Tisdale was going to be in it I stayed up past my bedtime to watch it. Nobody knew how big this was going to be. It sort of came out of nowhere when the first film dropped. It was just another DCOM ( Disney Channel Original Movie for those who don't know.) and it left me with good memories. Watching this movie in theaters honestly made me cry cause I was just entering being a teen when it ended cause it was the end of an era fr.
I remember when the first one came out, I wasn't able to finish the rest, because it was my bedtime. It felt like forever for the movie to premiere again so I could finish it.
As a class of 23, I’m going through the it’s your last year of grade school Debacle, that is quite stressful. This video definitely brought some joy to this moment :)
“What’s JULIARD?” OOOOOOOOOF there was that drama a few years back, where some guy in a one-room apartment practiced singing a lot, and recorded himself, applied to JULIARD the big art school, and they rejected him, so the Internet BLEW up and started dogpiling on Juliard’s Twitter and whatever.

I never saw the first two HSM movies but I was in year 11 (second-last year of school here in Australia) and we were about to go into our final year (it came out during our summer holidays here in November/December). All the girls in my group wanted to see this at the movies. I had absolutely no context, but I tell you what, it was super easy to follow and it was perfect for us considering we were going into our final year. Also the music was banger.

High School Musical 3 is 15 years old!
Everyone's facing the pressure and reality of graduating and found to prom and the film doesn't shy away from relatable dilemmas kids face whether it's deciding which college to go to, saying goodbye, or worrying if they'll still stay in touch afterwards
Maybe our hearts doesn't know what's in high school, we all wish it would all slow down, there will always be an emphasis on collective action and importance of group effort over individualism
The songs are way more catchy, more toe tapping, the sets are sparkling with rich detail and colors, the actors are still so charismatic (they're not bad actors even if they're playing one-dimensional characters), and this certainly feels like a closing chapter of a phenomenon
It is after all a thank you note to the fans
I suppose on another level that the movie is overwhelmed by so many subplots it's hard to tackle them all, then again the fans want to soak up every minute before it ends
And I won't lie I was in tears at several points even the ending which is hard to believe it's all over
Again it's an over exaggerated version of high school and cheesy but entertains still with its musical energy
It's a series that celebrates talent, enthusiasm, loyalty, and love not just for tween audiences
Plus it acts as a nice time capsule with a big budget

Ok listen o, even before I had the vocabulary I knew Ryan and Kellesy was just gay solidarity. In my mind it was obvious they had a scene where they agreed to go as "friends" to get people off their back and them singing together was just the end of that scene

3:13 Yeah, I have the same issue. The side of my family I still communicate with is tall across the board. I have a 6' 5" uncle, for example. Though, I do measure up to some of them. When I pull myself out of my depression and leave home, I remember how tall 5'10" is compared to the average female or feminine body type.

I graduated high school in 2018 and I watched hsm3 the night before graduation. let me tell you, I was crying because I gone through everything and that last step which was graduation was actually happening. It was so relatable, I just wished everything was back to the beginning of senior year. I was never the type to hate on high school. Yes high school was straight hell but it was the friends that I made that made it all better.
I genuinely didn't know there was a spin-off so I'm excited for the next video

incorporated never watched these movies as a kid because I wasn't interested in them but now that I'm older, the movies now have a nostalgic vibe for me, and I like the second movie the best because of the story that is being told and how the music is incorporated into the film. Also, your videos are amazing, and I hope you reach 350k!!! Also, I totally understand that I feel short but I'm somewhat tall I still feel short in stature when I look at my classmates or my co-workers.
I admit i almost didn't listen to anything Negative said during the "Scream" scene because i was singing the song in my head through that whole bit
On that last end about updating it, I feel the show does that well!! It deals with social media, anxiety, figuring out identity, breakups, crushes, college, moving, and quite a bit more. I know you likely won't end up covering it, but I'd honestly enjoy it because it's a show that i hold very close to my heart and i find it weirdly relatable. I know it has a stupid title, and it starts out rough, but it does get better. S2 finale sucks though, but s3 rectifies it well.

I watched High School Musical 3 in a movie theater with my dad I loved the movie and the songs. The movie was so good.
This movie came out my senior year of high school and my senior year was garbage (for a slew of reasons), so I second fully pursuing the scholarship before anything else. A relationship is nice, but it may not be forever, and you can't set yourself aside for someone elses pretty words.

I graduated in 2021 and I both feel upset that I didn’t get the high school experience everyone else before me got because of covid. But I also feel more stunted than usual. I’m still in the same boat as Gabriella and Troy as a junior in college. Everything feels unclear and it’s really draining everything out of me. But at least I know it’s somewhat normal.
They actually tried to do a fourth movie for this series, it would be known as once a wildcat it never panned out from what I know but I would love one more movie for this series

The third one felt the most mature to me out of all three movies. It was a good cap off to the franchise, and, the progression of it from the first to the third shows. I really liked that. Yeah, there are some things that could've been better. But that aside, I still love these movies to this day. Especially the last one. It's the best one in my opinion and definitely my favorite.

But seriously, I really love what you did with this movie, I never analyze this movie this way... and the only way I was able to compare isnHigh School Musicak Trilogy with the original Halo Trilogy, where John is John Bolton, not vice-versa. Don't judge me, I was a huge fan of both at that time and at some point, they got mixed in my mind. But the songs were Zac sang, I really felt them because it was a complicated time for me back then.
what really irked me abobut troy and Julliard was like. ok at the time i wasn't rlly paying that much attention so i didn't know the scale of Gabriella going to Stanford because i was 9 and not American but in my mind she was always more talented than Troy?? so like why wasn't she involved in the theatre school rivalry?? but realistically Ms Darbus probably considered Gabriella (this is my headcanon because there's no way she would not have noticed) because of how talented she is but she also recognizes the path that Gabriella is on. which is Stanford

I get being physically apart sucks, hell, my partner is over a border so when that snapped shut earlier during this pandemic, it suuucked... but also, the internet exists. I was having long-distance relationships during Dial-Up Internet times.
I don't see why going to different colleges would be a break-up event, even before the internet. Granted, I'm from two relatively small countries, but STILL - I'm not sure I've ever seen a depiction of "It's just X amount of time; we'll plan around that and try to visit each other as much as possible, and then move closer to each other once we've graduated".
Like... communication is a big part of relationships = do they communicate through smell and pheromones? Is that why constant physical proximity is so important??
