- Finally, Sharpay Evans, the titular antagonist of the show, is actually center stage to make Troy and Gabriella's life a lot harder. And I'm ready to see just how much of an improvement this movie was from the last.

When Sharpay became a slasher villain and used high heels to get rid of everyone while singing Fabulous and Bop to the Top. Iconic.
Sharpay maybe the slasher villain, but she steals the show compared to the protagonists.
What a self sufficient slasher queen
It is a crime that you never acknowledged the iconic queer tension during I Don't Dance
Ikr i was waitin for that the entire time
You can't convince me that scene was straight in any way
In a way between that number and him getting close to Gabriela you could say that Ryan was playing for both teams.
I was waiting for it too
I'll always be confuse about it lol
Fun fact: Sharpay’s Hawaiian number wasn’t in the original airing of the movie. It was included as deleted scene on the DVD. Disney added it back to the movie in later airings.
I remember having the dvd and me and my sisters would sit there trying to learn the dance lmao
That’s why I don’t remember it! I only saw the movie on the night it premiered so reading about that scene made me think I was going through the Mandela effect.
THATS WHY I HAVE A VAUGE MEMORY OF IT OMG!
That's pretty cool!
That must be why I hate it so much, saw it first without that song and saw it again later with it. I thought I had just somehow blacked it out 😂😂 now when I rewatch I have to skip that performance😂
Negative: "why cant we get colorful lockers?"
Me and everyone else in my school district: "why cant we get lockers?"
Me and everyone is southamerica like
"Wait, you guys get lockers?"
The most iconic moment is Ryan and Chad swapping outfits after I Don't Dance.
Truly
1000%
The people who know, know.
I can't believe you didn't talk about the baseball scene!!!! It's one of the most iconic scenes in the entire franchise!!!!
But otherwise, great video!! o: you did an awesome job breaking down the movie!! Especially considering the risk of getting copyright claimed :')
ESPECIALLY because of Chad and Ryan swapping outfits on purpose!
that's what i was hoping for ughh
No talk about the gay baseball game? Damn that was a really nice song too.
Isn't Ryan's actor bi and talked with the producers into making Ryan gay and getting together with Chad to have some characters gay kids could see and feel less alone, then Disney unsurprisingly broke their promise?
@@TeruteruBozusama idk who told you all that bc that is FAR from the truth lol
@@yumeharanozomi an article, and I have only your word for it being the opposite, so all I know for certain now is that I don't know anything for certain.
@@TeruteruBozusama link me because that's so untrue. lucas grabeel is straight and had nothing to with the decision of ryan being gay, or the baseball scene. it was never intended to be read as romantic, it just happened to be shot and edited in a way that made it seem that way (which isn't a problem cuz i agree with that reading).
@@yumeharanozomi So it wasn't actually plan to be that way? That explains soooo much now lol
*Golf Lingo Translation:*
The pin/the hole is 190 yards away from them. The ball is resting on a downhill slope, so he should adjust his position. So he’s suggesting using a 5 iron.
Thank you!
My running theory about why lockers are boring and drab is because the schools are cheap and unless your dad is extremely wealthy you're not getting a beautiful colorful Locker. I'm so glad though I skipped the locker situation. I only have cartoon sitcoms comic books and other locations High School will experience don't miss it one bit. Okay maybe I do regret not going to prom but to be fair I'm a hopeless romantic and I've seen way too romantic comedies set in high school. You think there will be a lack of running at the airport and screaming don't go but you would be wrong.
in my high school my only "Stand out" thing was i had a push-button lock vs. a turning lock
i also rarely used my locker since we could carry our back-packs around ...
but in middle school I used my locker! I still vaguely remember where my locker was in my middle school too
@@alakazamlover4908 good to know that digital lockers are cheaper now also yeah backpacks have been very useful especially when you're carrying 20 lbs of books there are hardback and out of date. I don't want to let you know what was it in my history book it's very sad and disappointing at least it was slightly up to date yeah at least recognized the Civil War.
What is even worst about the locker situation is that if a bully caught his victims by hand, he will lock them. It's a common trope among cartoons and other media, but it's pretty terrible to experience it in real life. Those poor kids.
I had a locker in 5th and 6th grade but I still carried a lot of stuff, but I never had lockers in high school,I probably had them in middle school but I don't remember
5:45 my headcanon is that Troy's family was on a home improvement show when he was a kid, that's why their house is so extravagant and his room is basketball themed, but he's still worried about college money and he drives a shitty car
His truck is far from shitty lmao, even in a beat down state that's a 25k plus truck it's almost 70 years old at this point they're antiques.
@@evelynsahoe8896 Shitty in the sense that it breaks down all the time
8:53 From what I can remember being on the highschool golf team, the clubs are different from each other. The irons have their "faces" (lack of a better term) angled and the number represents how far that angle is. Then you got your Chipping Iron which has it's face angled pretty far, good for popping the ball out of the bunkers.
So basically: Drivers are used to get the ball onto the course, Irons are used to navigate the course, and the putter is used for getting the ball into the hole.
Glad it's makes sense to someone
Thank you golf nerd of the commets
I'm still irrationally mad that they couldn't make Chad and Ryan a thing bc of Disney
I actually had the Gabriella doll when I was younger. She came with her outfit from the beginning, Troy's necklace, and her bathing suit outfit. And then a Troy necklace that I could wear as well
I had that doll too!!
I think I might have had Troy too but I can't remember. I might not have because I remember the only male doll I had being Edward from Twilight. I remember cutting the top of his hair
There is a UA-cam video where if you removed the music in the "Work This Out" musical number, all you can hear is nothing but people bashing on pots and pans.
Regardless, _High School Musical 2_ is a great summer flick.
Anytime he posts a video he recorded when he still had his longer hair I just silently reveal in joy. Not that his short hair looks bad, just... it was so gorgeous in all it's long glory! Still gorgeous now but as someone that could never dream of cutting their hair it made me a bit sad.
I remember watching this back when it first came out. I also remember being disappointed that they vilified Troy for "ignoring" his friends for the ultimately meaningless prize of... *checks notes*... a full ride scholarship to his dream college! Oh, wait, that's not minor, is it? Maybe that wasn't the best thing to portray as a bad choice?
Like, yeah, he wasn't hanging out with his friends as much as he used to, but from what I remember, he wasn't being cruel to them. Was spending less time with them selfish? Sure, but you bet your ass that I would have totally understood if a friend got busy for a while due to something that important. It was one of those feel-good Hollywood moments that felt wildly tone deaf to the real world. (Do keep in mind that I never rewatched this film, so there may be nuance that I missed.)
The only nuance I would add is there were a few moments where Troy was invited to the college team to test the waters and his friends *could have* joined but Troy blew them off in a way that was both kinda rude and kind of implying he wanted to hoard the opportunity for himself which, friends might kind of understand but I could see it causing conflict.
@@platinumbubbles6152 Oh, I do vaguely remember that! I can see how that adds some nuance. There's still the argument that Troy is the guest and can he really just invite all his friends to play with this team? But, at the same time, the friends being upset makes sense in that situation and a discussion is needed. Still not a clear "Troy is evil and making bad choices" situation like the movie made it seem, though.
Thanks for the reminder!
@@bookworm209 right! There’s a lot of weird grey area but he’s definitely not “the bad guy”.
Negative you should review "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" and it's about Sharpay and her life in show business, it's a really good movie and reminds me of Lyle, Lyle Crocodile and Better Nate Than Ever and also reminds me of Hamilton.
High School Musical 2 is such a great throwback movie. Your detailed analysis is something that really captures our attention. We hope to see more informative videos like this. Keep up the good work.
Fun fact: You can sync (at least the chorus of) Bet On It with the montage of Peter Parker being an emo dork in Spider-Man 3. It. Is. Amazing.
2:46 We don't give our schools enough funding for them to give their teachers a living wage, do you really think they'd spend what little money they do get on painting their lockers every year?
The sequel with the baseball shipping song.
I was so obsessed with Gabriella in this movie and I didn’t even process it as attraction at the time
Also I remember the dog collar thing making me Feel Weird and I didn’t know why
Fun fact! Zac Effron had someone else singing in the first movie because he'd been going through puberty and his voice kept cracking and changing throughout the moive filming process. It was too hard for him to the sing the songs for the first movie, but I believe he had a good voice, and they liked it, which is why he sang in the later movies.
I also loved him in The Greatest Showman. It really shows how mature his voice has become, and he's definitely a great singer.
I'm not a golf expert I think in English what he was saying "195 yards to the flag to show where the hole is. The ball is on the down side of the hill the area where the hole is is raised above everything else a bit use the the club without the round head that has a number 5 carved into it." Granted I haven't played golf in around 11 years. (unless you count mini golf)
Did they not even acknowledge "I don't dance" :(
Can we talk about Ryan and Chad exchanging outfit after the baseball match? 😏
I'm surprised by the lack of commentary on "I don't dance" lol
The cameo was more like a Where's Waldo.
I'll always go back to highschool musical 2 for a fun nostalgic movie
I still watch High School Musical sometimes and I specially hear the singa. Bet on It is a masterpiece and Im happy to see you enoyed the film so much! Great review! Loved your puns btw haha Would have loved for you to talk about the baseball song because Chad and Ryan are... something there ypu know
The objective of Golf is to "get ball in hole", but how to do this depends on the course. Often if you hit the ball head-on with full force, it will end up in a lake or forest. OR for a long straight course, a normal club won't have the force behind its swing to get the ball anywhere near the hole.
To this end, different clubs are designed to do different things. One can let you hit the ball way further than you otherwise might, while one intentionally cuts how far the ball goes. Some add spin, allowing it to curve. And blah blah blah.
It's like if in baseball you had a bat SPECIFICALLY designed to bunt with, or get a home-run, or hit curveballs...
What any specific club does, idk. But I know the physics behind the different clubs...which is something I guess.
That's pretty cool, thank you!
Bet On It is a certified banger.
Especially the amvs!!
Didn't Zac Efron have a ghost singer because he was going through puberty or something like his voice was squeaky and cracking... I guess that would require singing lessons.
it was because they wrote the songs for the first movie before casting him and it wasn't in his vocal range so when they wrote the songs for the second movie they already knew he was gonna be in it so they wrote the songs in his vocal range
"I can't make fun of the bad acting. They actually fixed that."😂
This was definitely my favourite out of all three movies!!!!!
I remember watching the premiere on TV when I was 9 and being absolutely devastated when Troy and Gabriella broke up. Just silently crying on the couch trying to not alert my family.
17:56 and this is the song that got memed alot
ive never seen all 3 but in the 3rd movie Troy has a Solo (I Think its the 3rd movie) and its AMAZING
I know the song in my head, but i cant remember the name of it
Edit: it was High school musical 3
the song was "Scream"
I can’t wait to see you cry during HSM 3, that movie just goes all out as a trilogy finale, with the songs, cinematography, character development, & ending.
to be fair to the Miley cameo they had kids vote for it while advertising the movie aka they already filmed everything so they had to keep the cameo small to make sure they could easily insert and edit in whichever Disney star won the vote without it actually doing anything in the plot
Highschool Musical so much nostalgia, what a beautiful movie to remember ❤
HSM2 is my favorite of the franchise from when I first saw it to now. It’s too iconic for anyone to dislike it
can't believe you didn't mention the sheer sexual tension between chad and ryan in "i dont dance"
i love your comedic timing
I watched this movie premiere with my cousin on the day it aired. We made a day of it and I have such fond memories of this movie. The best out of the three in my opinion.
"Well it is 190 to the pin on a downhill lie with an elevated green. I'd hit it with a full 5, sir."
"190" yards to the hole, or "pin" (so called because the flag looks like a pin on a map.) Most golfers use laser range finders now for precise distance to the pin, but that was kind of a new trend back when this movie came out. Usually you have to guess it by one of various ways of estimating the distance, either have familiarity with the course (part of the purpose of a caddy), or sometimes the water sprinkler heads have distances marked on them (but depends on the course). These distances are to the center of the green itself and NOT where the pin cup is actually located (usually about 3-4 locations on the green). This can change depending on the tournament, or they just get rotated so the course doesn't get stale to play time and time again by club members. You can tell the relative position from the center based on a smaller flag about midway down on the flagpole. This flag's position is changed with the pin position, so how far up or down on the midway position of the pole gives you the relative spot front to back, since depending on where you observe the flag, you might not know where the center of the green is relative to it. The lower it is to the ground, the closer the pin is to the FRONT of the green, and thus a shorter overall distance to the pin.
"Downhill lie" means that your current ball position (or lie) is downhill from the green, or the close cut grass area where the hole is located. This usually means you have to use a more vertical face angled club to overcome the height disadvantage you have, rather than a shallow angle and hope you roll the ball.
"Elevated green" means the surface of the green is more flat or plateau-like compared to the slope you are currently on. Again, disadvantageous for the same reason as above, but it also means that your ball will need more room to come to a complete stop. You want to short hit it, or hit a high angle club so the resulting first bounce takes a lot of the horizontal rolling energy out of the ball and you don't go sailing off of the end of the green and have to hit from taller grass again.
"I'd hit it with a full 5" means to take a full swing with a 5 iron. Clubs are divided into 3-4 categories. The drivers/woods with a low angle and long shaft give you high leverage for long, flat distances (This is usually the first club you hit since the center of the face tends to be higher and you need to tee the ball up to hit it correctly). Irons are the most numerous in your golf bag, usually numbered 2 through 9. These are for intermediate distance shots on the middle of a hole until just before the green. As the number increases, the shaft length decreases and the angle of the club face increases (i.e., less leverage and more high angle as the number increases). Wedges are super high angle irons with the minimum shaft length (Shaft length is usually determined by someone's overall height). Usually there are two specific clubs in this category; sand wedge and pitching wedge. The sand wedge is used to get out of sand traps (which are usually close by the green), so they have a high angle face and very short shaft so you can use all of your power and get not a ton of distance since sand hits MUCH differently compared to grass. The pitching wedge is essentially a sand wedge made for using in roughs (the taller grass area immediately surrounding the green.) Last of course is the putter, used for precise rolling of the ball for the final hit(s) into the pin. Each iron is basically tailored for a specific distance, but you can short change your swing to get a different distance out of it, or angle the club face to artificially get a higher angle shot but with more distance (since the shaft is longer and thus you get more leverage).
Golf is a game about human biomechanical consistency and a surprising amount of strategy. You get one time to hit the ball, so what club you hit is just as important as how you hit it, taking into consideration you know your position and the obstacles in the way.
I am kind of disappointed that you brushed over the gay mess that is "I don't dance" and the fact that ryan and chad had their outfits switched after it, but i also watched the movies like 20 times more than you and that's so easily missed.
I would just like to brag that my school has rainbow lockers 😌✨
K cool Bai 😎✌️
(Awesome video!)
Lol in my highschool, our lockers were painted by the 12th grade art students as a final project. Almost all the lockers were beautiful, unique, and colourful and there was no way you could forget which one yer locker was
The second one is always gonna be my favorite out of all three the songs and Sharpay snapped with these songs 🥰👏👏👏😭💕💕
we had unsaturated blue lockers in my high school but the students could paint them and put stickers on them which was cool. Not everyone had one because it was a small school so there wasn't a huge need for a locker but it was still cool that they allowed the students to do that. (the school also heavily focused on arts rather than sports the only sport we had was color guard which was started by a student)
Why do all the lockers have to be grey/beige? Well because the schools are designed by the same people who designed the prisons.
Fun fact the song humuhumunukunukuapua'a and the other songs where Troy sings with Sharpey as duo were cut out of the movie in my state
“Troy Bolton!? More like Troy Bolt-in my heart!”. Love your videos so much! 🎉
6:01 this time stamp is for me :)
Edit: I am loving this HSM series your doing
So golf nerd: „190 to the pin“ 199 yards to the pin, pin in this context is the hole. Elevated Green means that the zone around the hole is higher then then area around where you play and a full five means he reccomends a swing with full might with an Iron 5 club.

im practically going on summer vacation in like 3 weeks cuz of Australian climate but its fun cuz its christmas which means i can hop into the pool at my aunts place after christmas lunch. Y'ALL NORTHER HEMISPHERE PEOPLE DONT GET TO EXPERIENCE HOW MUCH FUN AUSTRALIAN SUMMERS ARE IM SORRY THEY ARE THE BEST!! /nm
On bet on it, the behind the scenes literally showing the director coaching Zac Afron on the art of dramatic sand throwing lol
Regarding wanting lockers that ar colorful, at my high school they had red, blue, green, and purple lockers, one set for each grade and area of the school where the majority of your classes would be.
Now, granted, they got used less and less because they gave us no time to stop at them between classes, especially if you had classes at opposite ends of the school, but at least they did something. I don’t know if your high school was older then mine but I would have graduated before you so I know it’s a thing they are more willing to do now.
My school doesn't just have unsaturated blue, but also unsaturated green and unsaturated red
the dog was miley cyrus’s who also plays a cameo in the very last song (not at that part yet if you do comment on it)
Nah nah nah hear me out- "Troy Bolton? More like Troy Bolted"
IT WAS RIGHT THERE!!!!
7:52 yes, the Dog actually kinda matters. Because after HSM3 there's a "Fabulous Sharpay Adventure" (was that the title? I don't remember) that is considered the unofficial 4th HSM movie in some circles.
I really enjoyed the bloopers the best in this one!
Good video! Surprised you didn't mention the baseball scene, considering all the gay tension in it.
my school had multicolor lockers. It was orange and rusty red and yellow, and other clumps were dirty blues and dirty pale greens
Wooo finally here love you content negative
HSM 2 is the best one.
There is a movie about Sharpay and her dog 10/10
Baseball is for dancing
The lockers in my high school were maroon and white.
I laughed hard on how you described Troy's Bet on Me. 😆😆😆 Great vid as always. Thanks Negative!👍 Legend!
Also also, there's a video of "Bet on it" but with the music of "Let it go" from frozen, it's hilarious!
There's also a Lin-Manuel Miranda video of him reenacting the song :3
yayyy HSM2 is my all time fav!! happy you made this video!
Negative the fact you ignored the ABSOLUTE tension in i don't dance is murdering me
your videos are soooo nice to watch !
My school never even used lockers. We had to carry everything in our backpacks & textbooks are heavy.
I did vote in that pole. I was livid.
They always made sure we watch they movies cuz Disney had movie Fridays then Thursdays for some reason

And dammm your right😮 you’re making me rethink my whole childhood….😮
“ Das a big LEVEL “❤
12:25 there , I’m DIEING mAtE❤
I was 13 when the movie came out and it was something I had in common with the only friends I had.
The only year I celebrated my birthday, one of them brought the CD of the 2nd movie and we played all the songs, it was fun.
And I watched the last one in CINEMA ! It was really great to see that on the big screen.
Woa! This is the first time I am this early. This is nice. Also I can't believe being early made my day.🤣
2:54 my school has dark blue and green😄… and beige😅
If it makes you feel better "daddy" has slowly transitioned into "zaddy", so there's some hope
Ah you have the same date criteria is me and my partner 😊
12:19 bro's getting his nose picked without his consent
Golf is actually pretty complicated despite what ppl tend to think. There's a bunch of different clubs, and each one the club face is at a different angle, meaning it will hit the ball to different heights and distances. In addition, hitting the ball properly and well is really difficult. A tiny tweak in your swing could send the ball in a totally different direction and distance.
My lockers purple lol
Definitely the Best Highschool musical
Me: "Oh my gosh they skipped 'I don't dance' I can't believe it" I was so looking forward to that 😅
Yes.
This one is pretty good, but the 3rd one is AMAZING! The budget is bigger and 'I want it' is an absolute bop😍
hey heads up if you didn’t know that the word at 21:09 is derived from the g slur. otherwise I absolutely adored this video, I love revisiting this movie with new perspectives!
just so you know, the term "gypped" comes from the slur "gypsy", and it's a derogatory term equating the romani people with theft and cheating. you can replace it with "duped" or "swindled" so you're not insulting people inadvertently
Great video!! Movie was good and iconic. Of course some parts could have been better. But oh well!! Haha
Golf answer: basically you have different clubs for different amounts of distance or if you want a curve? Air time? To get from the start to the green where you have to use the putt because grass! Is sensitive! UwU!
Personally I only use like 4 of them max but there are limits to how many clubs you're allowed to take with you during an official match (it's 14)
8:59 This is how you play golf. Basically, you use the driver to go super long distances. That's the club with the super fat head.l There is the 5 iron, 6 iron, and 9 iron. You use them to go medium distances, and there is the putter. You use that to go short distances.
That song at like 12 minutes in, I'm not sure how it was in america but that song was cut in the tv version in europe
The remix of Bet On It is iconic.
