I agree… no black for me. I have quite a pink tone with blue eyes and I think I look quite sickly in most blacks. I don’t know enough about different tones of black, so I too, choose navy :)PS Marie-Anne , what do you call your haircut? Thanks!
Bonjour Marie-Anne! When I was a little girl my German grandmother always looked amazing, not like all my friend's moms or grandmother's. (I grew up in the U.S.). It was because she followed the same style rules that you do. She did not have many clothes but they all coordinated beautifully and were of quality. So I grew up following her example. Then when I was in my 50s I found out that I was adopted, and that I am actually half-French, not German at all! So perhaps my taste is part inspiration and part genetic. Thank you for your wonderful instruction and advice!
The black sweater with baby pink blouse neckline showing... and the little pin....WOOOOWWWWW!!!!! I'm addind this to my diary. Exceptional!! Its like styled by Christian Dior himself!!!
Gray is such a great neutral color and it makes color stand out!!! Color in nature, like beautiful fall leaves stands out on a gray day, the same with our clothes!!! Colorful scarves look particularly beautiful against a gray cardigan or coat!!! Gray and blue are my favorite colors and I wear them a lot, I guess this American Irish woman is truly French in her heart Thank you for another wonderful lesson, Marie-Anne
Love them all! I will recreate each one. Black, bright red, greys... I added bright pink as a new color to my wardrobe a few years ago after going through breast cancer the first time. [I’ve conquered it twice now, so yay me.;)] The bright pink has turned out to be a fun addition and much to my surprise a very pretty one. My hair is red verging on auburn, blue eyes, neutral skin tone which is very slightly cool so I had shied away from pinks all my life. Your suggestion about holding the clothing up to your face, looking in a mirror and seeing if you look sick or well, is the best advice I’ve ever heard for figuring out if a new color would look good on you. Thank you for sharing everything that you do with us!
Fabulous video. I so enjoy your lively modeling and joy in presentation. This style and colors are my uniform, along with pink which I am now comfortable wearing with your guidance. Being unable to wear wool or even silk during the day in my tropical climate, I look for these very simple shapes in cottons and micro fibers. Classic, beautifully detailed shirts fill out my wardrobe for the heat of the day. While some may feel black is too extreme in the tropics, I never shy away from it, wearing all black often. I admire the scarves but they look so warm here that I wear necklaces instead. I do miss the lovely sweaters and tailored trousers I wore forty years ago ( yes, this was my uniform in the chic city I lived in before moving to Hawai'i) these were my colors even then. I had no knowledge of color theory but it was instinctive what looked good on me.Over the years I lost my clothing identity living in a decidedly non-chic, casual place which you helped me to find again, for which I will be eternally grateful.
Beautiful matching color, i will definitely wear all those beautiful color next time i’m going to Europe, now i’m living in a country that have 365 days of summer 💝💝 thank you for the wonderful video.
Marie-Anne Lecoeur I hope we will be able to travel soon, please come to Malaysia, I live in Kualalumpur but I’m originally from Bali Indonesia, both countries only have summer a year long with slightly rainy day sometimes. Somehow we always want the apposite, we love to travel to Europe during Autumn or Winter to experience the cold weather. 😃😃 but you long for the heat ☺️☺️🌹🌹
I love the way you pair black and gray sweaters with scarves and blouses. Black is my favorite color, and I am guilty of wearing it too much! You have inspired me to make my outfits more interesting and more colorful! MERCI!!
Thank you Marie-Anne- Absolutely classic and chic advice...I love black as a basic, and whenever I wear burgundy with it my husband compliments me...also love scarves and have many! I wish more people in this country (USA) would put more thought into what they wear...it’s so very casual here, even a lot in the workplace.
Yes, black is worm so often. All the colors you showed with black are awesome. All black is the most formal choice with the monochrome look. My favorite is a true red with black to have fun and confidence. Always Enjoy your videos, thank you, Marie-Anne.
What a great visual as you held each of the tops up near your face. When the red top was presented, your complexion looked beautiful and absolutely no need for a scarf. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for making it.
I love all the looks, wonderful classic styling.I have always worn black and wear sweaters all the time. I like a deep blue red. Your scarf is very pretty. Something else I wear a lot of. I discovered several years ago that my wardrobe had become predominately black. I had to start adding other happy colors to round out my look. Black is still a must have staple. Yes perfect for fall.
I see this video is from 3 years ago, but it is by far the most relevant to the wardrobe I am beginning to curate. I have always loved black, and grey (gray) (gris), all the things you demonstrated taught me so much! I am so glad I found your channel.
Thank you for fabulous tips and great advice. Blacks, and dark greys, are my favorite base colors during Fall/Winter. I love adding accents amd interest with soft wool pashminas, silk scarves, or statement necklaces in deep jewel tones like dark reds, emerald greens, amethyst, deep blues, and a little pink. I am currently shopping for new light weight sweaters, thank you for the links.
Bonjour Marie-Anne. I do love all the looks. I wear a lot of black. As I’m getting older I think navy looks a little better on me but I will always like to wear black. You look so beautiful in that shade of grey and the scarf makes it look extra special. Thank you for the tips.x
Could you please do a video with the best brands styles of trousers for women who are 5feet or under with short legs, plus I can not wear high heels on most days. Thank You.
This is one of my favorite videos you have done Marie-Anne. I usually go for jeans or khaki pants for a casual look but own a pair of very nice, well tailored black trousers. I may pull them out today and do a try on session. It can't hurt to elevate my look a bit. Thank you for your hard work on these videos. You are fun to watch and I learn a lot. You are a very classy lady.
I’m so happy that scarves are still in and they look fabulous with your sweaters. I live in Kansas and it gets very cold in the winter so scarves are a must for me.
Fabulous and practical wardrobe pieces that one can wear over and over again. They can take you through almost any occasion. That pretty scarf goes with everything.
Bonjour dear MarieAnne. Thank you for the video, loved it♥️. I have allot of black in my closet. I generally wear all black as a base color with a different color jacket, coat and scarf. I really need sweaters like these 🙀, love the black, dark grey and red.
Bonjour Marie Anne this is exactly what I do since I wear a lot of black I have to Mix up the textures because defined a black that matches exactly one would be hard-pressed to find it’s still a great tip that we should all apply like you said not only to Blach but two other colors as well aloha and have a blessed day
excellent tips on timeless and versatile capsule french wardrobe! I've been gradually building my wardrobe with these principles in mind over the last few years, replacing the cheaper pieces (e.g. sweaters) with higher quality options made of 100% cashmere, wool etc. I love them and it's easy to dress things up with accessories like coordinated scarves, edgy fashion jewellry and unique footwear. Thanks for sharing all your tips!
Merci Marie-Anne, for sharing your expertise with us! As usual, you're beautiful, especially in the light gray ensemble! I'm delighted to find this video with lighter & brighter colors, as they're better suited for those of us who live/travel the southern regions. As always, I'm looking forward to your next video!
I like all your combinés. Really great styles. Of course I am partly French in culture. I have tried all. You are so right about it all and dont need à whole lot of money to create thse combinés, and always well put together. Bécause of you, I dont need to do vidéos.
@@MarieAnneLecoeur More black, followed with gray, camel or red. I am fair with auburn hair but after years of red fear I finally realized it really does depend on the shade I choose. I have a few scarves in brighter patterns to add though I have to admit I have never worn them with the confidence l would like. I am going to have to watch your scarf video a few more times! The summers are so hot and my job doesn't call for a strict dress code that I spend the summers in jeans or brown pants.
Can you help to show how to use broches and scarves? I love collecting broaches but Im not so sure if I can do it correctly. I want to look chic with it.
Marie-Anne, you look extra beautiful today. My signature color...black. Love this video. Black is not boring....its exciting and you can do anything with black to make it look stunning. So glad I was home today to watch this video. Take care and stay safe 🍂🌻🍁xx
I love all these tips. Even though I live in the desert, I now own 4 cashmere sweaters. I try to rotate them, when we get a cold day, or if going to another area, that may be cooler. So simple and so elegant. Scarves are the perfect way to correct the color to your face. Coordinating lipstick also helps with reds or pinks. I love the all black look. It's just so elegant. Thank you!
I bought myself some red jeans, and some olive green jeans for a fresh look, I have tops and cardigans in my wardrobe to wear with them, you have been a huge inspiration for me,
I wear black all year round. I have 2 pair of black trousers. One ankle length and one wide leg almost floor length. I wear them as much as my dark denim jeans. I dress them up or down. I have just order a cream, gray and black plaid winter scarf! I wear mostly white ,cream, light pinks, light blues, grays and black.I have purchased a pair of dark blue dress pant recently and will be adding a camel or tan wool sweater.❤
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Well, I'm reminded that a dove gray, v-neck sweater, in a soft wool/cashmere needs to go on the wishlist in my journal, as I'd love wearing these outfits! You also make a very interesting point about different fabric textures effecting how a colour will suit you.
I used to try to minimize dark colors like black in the winter - until I did some comparisons. Although lighter colors look great on the hangers and lift your spirits in winter, what I found was the darker colored slacks/jeans are almost always more slimming/flattering and make me feel better and more confident in them. It doesn’t have to be black though. Navy, dark brown ( which is a good color for brunettes) dark green, rust and burgundy all look good in the fall/winter. I bought a camel colored knee length coat last year that looks great with all the colors I mentioned and is a good contrast with them as well. Another way I’m using color is wearing dresses paired with a well fitted blazer or a cardigan. Thank you Marie-Anne for inspiring me!😘
I love wearing gray! I have noticed in many movie and tv show sets, gray is most often the color used in rooms, because it really lets the actors and actresses’ skin tones and clothing colors stand out and look better, and it does the exact same thing wearing it. Plus it goes with absolutely everything. Thank you, you always give the best advice!
I tend not to wear black blouses as they make look too pale, but by adding a nice scarf around the neck it makes it look so much nicer. Lovely video Marie-Anne.
I admire black clothes on other people. But in the past every-time I just leave it in sit in the closet. So I just love to see other people wear it. Ohw. I like the red! 💕And the cream, 🐪 camel🤩
I love black...but, only wearing it until there is something darker ;) I love putting a very textured black sweater w black slacks and ankle high heeled boots. Thank you so much...I love your energy :)
Black on top makes my very pale skin look sickly, so I only wear it on the bottom half, or in stripes and other patterns with white. Thanks for another great video.
The thing that struck me most was how a scarf can transform the look of a lovely classic black jumper. I’ve recently treated myself to a black v neck and a black polo neck, so I’m now going through my scarf collection and having a play with some. Merci 💋
