I understand your point of view. Several people have asked me to release these animations so they can be played as a "mod", however I am of the same opinion as you, and feel that cinematic cutscenes are not what makes HL great. The world is full of compromise. I didn't want this to simply be just another HL let's-play, like the thousands of others already out there, but I also didn't want to create a mod of HL that utilizes cutscenes. While I am using Black Mesa assets, and the game itself from time to time, most of what you see is animation made in SFM. The major difference in mindsets between us is that this is purely a cinematic experience, and is fundamentally unable to be controlled by the viewer. You can't change that, except maybe for a choose-your-own-adventure style playlist, and unfortunately that would put too much of a strain on production. Therefore, in my mind, the solution is to allow the viewers as much leeway as realistically possible when it comes to making "Half-Reality" I haven't streamed in awhile, so it may not be obvious. But I plan and prepare almost every scene with my viewers. I rarely do things myself. This way, some of that "spirit of Half-Life" is still present. I hope this helps! Thank you for your comment. To be honest I already checked most of your vids and my favorite one so far is Barney and Gordon’s vent competition. Personally really wish someone of fans (hell maybe even Valve themself) do something like almanac (Black mesa: origins???) of Gordon & co. routine in pre resonance cascade BM. Maybe couple of short films or little source mod just to expand the universe and bring more life in it.
I know I'm four years late here, but I think this series is super cool and interesting! Conveying character in animation from the first person is something I find really fun and I've only seen a handful of games playing with that. Multiple vids giving Black Mesa that treatment? Hell to the yes. This episode really gives you the feeling of stumbling through a nightmarish haze. So much horrifying shit is happening all at once, and Gordon's mind isn't able to process much in the moment beyond "I need to get out of here, where is everyone, why can't I wake up, OH GOD IT'S ON MY HEAD GET IT OFF GET IT OFF GET IT OFF!!!" and he's probably not going to feel the creeping dread what comes with deeply understanding that most of the familiar names and faces he saw every day have been reduced from people to deceased bodies for some time. But I know he will eventually. I adore the fact that this goes out of its way to establish that the Black Mesa staff mean a lot to our friend Dr. Freeman... even if I admit that I find the black-and-white flashbacks a little bit cheesy. I love how Black Mesa, the fangame, has a ton of charming little character moments in the lab before it all goes to hell. It hurts thinking about how Oskar will never be able to try his goofy flirting jokes on Gina, how that one scientist will never make it to the local comic con, and how Gordon will never get to play poker with that guard. Gordon, in the games, is supposed to be a vessel for the player's feelings, so why not have him reflect my feelings of affection for the NPCs? It's not a depiction I see around much, probably because the actual HL1 in all of its Goldsrc glory wasn't suited to creating the most expressive characters (though it was pretty remarkable in its day!), so it's neat to see it here.
I relate to Oskar quite a bit… I too have an infatuation with Gina haha I can’t seem to remember where his name is identified tho, is it in the games files somewhere? Also, I appreciate the in depth analysis! Not many people (outside of relatively close friends) are aware just how much thought goes into this stuff… it’s nice to see viewers like you glean as much as you have 😊

I have always been planning on it... in pursuit of that goal, I have nearly finished porting Black Mesa to Source 2, as that will bypass many of S1FM's flaws. However, I am also attending a visual effects and game design school, which also takes much of my time.
@@spyrodrake7050 it’s because most hardcore HL fans understand that HL’s success in part came because of its lack of cutscenes. Implementing cutscenes into a HL inspired game is against the original vision that Valve had for it. The difference here is, HL is being viewed through a cinematic medium instead of a gameplay one. The viewers do not have any direct control over what happens to Gordon (outside of helping me plan out each episode in discord, and polls haha) which is already fundamentally different from HL. At least in a cinematic medium, there’s room for animated interactions with the environment. Thanks for the comments! Every little bit help when it comes to persuading the YT algorithm that my content is good haha
Just graduated from school, and i'm currently looking for a job in the motion capture industry. Hoping that once I get settled it'll be easier to devote time to this project.
@@AdminHouse I'm hoping to flesh out Mesabox (my big BMRF map in Source 2) so I can use it to continue this series. Technical difficulties have made it difficult to devote as much time as I used to, so I need to streamline the process more. Source 2 will do that.

I don't really imagine the protective systems being able to project over his head like that, but I am glad that he will get a helmet eventually.
When he quited the glass pieces out of his face remind me to the SFM of pinwheel arts
(Sorry for bad english)
Its okay :)
When I made this, I didn't want to copy him, but I still needed Gordon to react to the glass realistically, so I went with something similar to Pinwheel Arts, but tried not to copy him directly.
@@Validatormaybelater i didnt mean to say that you copied him and that stuff, i said that reminded me that scene
Also Nice video ;)
The begining of this. I cried. The memory Sequence was so good, the music made it even better. Just, Damn. You should make this a full game thing.
im gessing you played the game black mesa then you animated gordens arms and legs in there
Awesome 😮
Excellent work bro 😁👍
Ah..the mighty crowbar!
This series really makes you feel like Gordon Freeman!
Yooooooooo! This is so cool! This has me hyped as hell! Half-Life has had a special place in my heart for nearly a decade now, and just...seeing stuff like this? It blows me away. I can't wait to see more!
Just... incredible, wow. I want to see this finished so badly.
Underrated af
It's awesome job, bro! Please continue.
You betcha! I'm working on the falling elevator scene right now, hope to have it done within a few days. Gonna upload it as its own video, but its also going to be included in UC Part 2 as well.
@@Validatormaybelater I'll tell you this, I just came across your channel today and was impressed with the quality of the work. Keep up the good work and DON'T STOP! I will follow what is happening on your channel. Because...
"...you have limitless... potential".
wow, this is really cool. Freeman's mind level of cool. why does it have so little views?
I like Freeman's Mind! I also watched it at night.
Everytime I sleep, I put Freeman's Mind to listen to the action while I sleep.
Very great quality, good sir! This actually reminds me of first person movie Hardcore Henry and that’s very cool!
Thanks for the sub! If you watch the rest of my content (mostly little side projects) you’ll see how much better I’ve gotten since then. If you want to see my current progress, drop in on my stream!
Ok. Will absolutely check when have a free time. You know, I’m something of a old HL/Valve fan myself and seeing that lads like you can provide such a cool content warms my heart. I will 100% check your channel and wait for new content!
This is awesome!
amazing stuff here
Amazing
Great to see this come our after all your hard work. Hopefully I can catch the next stream
I relate to Oskar quite a bit… I too have an infatuation with Gina haha
I can’t seem to remember where his name is identified tho, is it in the games files somewhere?
Also, I appreciate the in depth analysis! Not many people (outside of relatively close friends) are aware just how much thought goes into this stuff… it’s nice to see viewers like you glean as much as you have 😊
Sorry about the censored guard who gets cut by the laser! I forgot to remove that...

The censored version is still censored. (Also, why is it called the censored version? Shouldn't it be the uncensored version?)
@@wiltonthefatty is seems that all the blood and gore is censored in the censored version and as he said he forgot to remove the censorship of the guard
This is truly incredible
I remember watching you make these, lol.
holy shit this deserves a lot more attention, this made me see half life on a whole different light
Fantastic.
I love how you voiced freeman when he was attacked by the head crab or was it someone else? But i still love that part
That was actually an in-game sound file, I was gonna replace it with some voice acting but it sounded good enough I think.
@@Validatormaybelater The guard from the Assassin part?
Hell yeah good job man
This is amazing
This is great
this is like Freeman's Mind: The Sequel
this is awesome 😃
1 Googolplex / 10, very epic
I thought these were done in VR for a moment
Oh, whoopsy. I thought the LIVE Stream was you making again, lol.
Is there any chance this will be eventually continued?
I have always been planning on it... in pursuit of that goal, I have nearly finished porting Black Mesa to Source 2, as that will bypass many of S1FM's flaws.
However, I am also attending a visual effects and game design school, which also takes much of my time.
Nice

this is truly amazing how long did it take to make!?
Only a few months I think... the next episode is taking longer, because i'm adding a lot more, and its much more complicated.
@@Validatormaybelater cool well i support it!
lol not to be annoying, but how do you convert/add black mesa maps to sfm?
A friend of mine is in the process of converting them, he made me go into an exclusivity contract with him until he's finished porting all of them.
Great
i want the song name at min 7:00 someone can tell me?
Wish this was turn into a mod
Most hardcore Half-Life fans would disagree with you. I hope I don’t have to explain why haha
@@Validatormaybelater eh Diffent views no biggy
What’s the song what plays when Gordon activates the retinal scanner at 2:00?
Tengo un nuevo idolo
What was the soundtrack you used for 2:05?
I believe that is... the Black Mesa Theme? The remixed one that Joel made I think...
классно сделано)
4:53 wait who is screaming? gordon?! why
Is there no such mod? I'd like to replay the game like that

Why have you abandoned your project?
Just graduated from school, and i'm currently looking for a job in the motion capture industry. Hoping that once I get settled it'll be easier to devote time to this project.

@@ValidatormaybelaterUpdate?
@@AdminHouse I'm hoping to flesh out Mesabox (my big BMRF map in Source 2) so I can use it to continue this series. Technical difficulties have made it difficult to devote as much time as I used to, so I need to streamline the process more. Source 2 will do that.
