This episode is supposed to take place well before the day of the cascade, I just wanted the first episode to not have any violent drama compared to the many other Half Life animations out there.
@@kirill9064 GOOD catch! Not even my friends on discord caught that... that was honestly pure laziness. I didn't feel like changing it again haha Fun fact, the part where he waves at the dude in the beginning is the first animation I ever made.

HOLY SHIT this is SO good. so cinematic and well animated, and i love the whole atmosphere of this. 2:00 literally givin me chills bro. great job!! this is amazing :)
I'm thinking about remastering this episode now that there is a new HD Freeman model that looks decent... what do you think? I might just add one or two scenes to show his face for people who have never experience Half Life before, and are using my channel to do it.
this is hella cool but I feel like you should do something to hide the loading screens like maybe occasionally have Gordon rub his face or something to hide it
Oh balls... I swear I made sure to make sure every time it said "loading" I covered it up... I've been thinking about remastering this episode anyways, now that there is a good looking HD model of Freeman and I can show his face for a few second at the beginning. What do you think? Like this short video: ua-cam.com/video/TMTBqo6e6bA/v-deo.html
@@Validatormaybelater Oh no you don't see the word loading i meant when the screen goes black for like a few seconds and jumps back to the same scene. I forgot when this happens but like during the intro when you reach one of the doors during the intro and the screen goes dark then cuts back to the door opening. By the way the video you linked is actually how I found you it looks cool. I feel like we should only see Gordon during important moments like encountering his first HECU, the rocket launch, stuff like that ya know
Yes! My thoughts exactly! Thank you. Unfortunately that is VERY hard to edit out, or otherwise get around perfectly. There will always be some kind of scene transition. For this episode, and episode 2 I had not refined my editing skills as much as I have now, which is why I was thinking about redoing them while they don't have as many views.
@Eggfriend In my channel, nothing is every DEAD dead xD I'm quite active in animation and whatnot, but now i'm either working on school or assisting other indie development teams This was made quite a long time ago... if you watch "Stress Levels Critical" you'll see how far i've come x3 If I ever remade this episode, i'd absolutely go a bit more into detail like what you said.
This series is like a wet dream for me. I've always played the Half-Life games in the perspective as Gordon and tried to stay in his character as much as possible, and I just love this so much. Well done!
at 10:14 , im not entirely sure because i cant see very well, but was that a bit of sign language ??? either way, this is really wicked and i dont know how i haven't found you earlier !!
I'm excited for this journey "Validator" and wish you all the best in production of this series :) Let me know if you ever want voice acting work or anything else for these I'll be happy to help you however I can!
Holy wow... That's not a bad idea! I've tested my own voice a few times, but I don't have any production-quality voice acting experience, so i've avoided that. I think some sound effects would definitely be in order, like getting choked by a ceiling barnacle, spitting out glass shards, and some convincing crying/sobbing. I'll PM you!
@@Ian_Paneque I appreciate the support! I think I've got animation handled, but I would love lore/story suggestions (like if Gordon should wear a helmet), or what Gordon would realistically do in certain situations.
Thanks for your input… us HL fans are few and far between, but are amongst the most loyal fan base I’ve ever seen. I sincerely appreciate your enthusiasm x3
Y'know, I had thoughts of a sort of series like this, charting Gordon's adventure with a chapter an episode. This looks pretty much like I imagined. Nice work. How'd you get him to walk so slowly though?
I've got a few setting that help me make things more realistic: I have two mouse keypad buttons that do the commands cl_forwardspeed 70 and 450 (or whatever the default is, I forgot haha) This is nice (as you noticed) because it allows me to walk nearly the same speed as the NPC's You should hop on one of my streams sometime and help me write the script/brainstorm! I could really use help from other like minded people... Are you an animator as well?
@@Validatormaybelater I'll have to find out how you do those settings. I'm the kind of twit who likes to role-play almost any game. I'll probably pass on a few ideas for 'story' beats and/or moments, since I'm playing Black Mesa myself finally, and it's got my imagination going. One that's rumbling around right now is just before Blast Pit, when Gordon decides to take a moment just after passing the silo doors. Y'know, sit in a corner and reflect. After-all, he's partially responsible for a major disaster, has seen a lot of death and destruction, and the soldiers he thought were here to rescue them... well, I think you can imagine. As for being an animator: No, I'm afraid not.
I know its been 4 years. This is AWEOSME. The only small lore bits (From an Autistic whos Obsessive of these games) BMRF Was founded in the 50s, its not entirely known if they were built initally by a unrealated company or by the US. But what IS known. Is that the BMRF isnt just government FUNDED, its Government OWNED/Is a FEDERAL building. This can be Seen by the fact in OG HL you can spot the Federal Seals on man Lobbies. And this is only possible if you are a Federal Related Building. I also Headcanon that BM started research into TP during the Early 60's as thats around the same time Aperture Did it, which Narratively ties the two times together. And I figure that when Xen Was Accidentally discorvered, it was done in in 67 or 68 with Xen being a Priority in 69. Given both ages of Dr. Keller, Rosenberg, and Breen Respectivley would mean that they would be at the "Prime" of their careers at that point via these discoveries
Canonically? Probably not. In Crowbar Collective's "Black Mesa" he definitely does, at least before the day of the disaster. In Half-Reality, "Inbound" is sometime before the events of "Anomalous Materials", they are not on the same day.
This is really cool, but the player movement needs work. The head looks like it's being controlled by a mouse, and the character movement looks unnatural, like keys on a keyboard being pressed. Good job otherwise!
The player movement way made with a controller. No button presses. The player view was mouse controlled like you said. What do you think I should have done for the head movement then? Keep in mind, this is not animation. It’s mostly gameplay, with green screen arms on top. Animating it fully would take an astronomical amount of time.
@@Validatormaybelater in the elevator rescue video, the camera had minor bobs and imperfections in the movement. I know there's a gameplay mode in SFM, but I don't know if you can use a game other than TF2. You could also use a few compositing tricks on the final product to crop out *minor* parts of the vid by rotating it. It doesn't matter if you don't perceive it as a problem, I was just trying to give a bit of constructive criticism. Congrats on the green screen trick for the hands though, that must've been painful!
@@desmondkuehn No worries, just stating facts where I can. Correct me if i'm wrong, but you misunderstanding when the footage is purely in SFM, and when its gameplay with green screened arms is actually very good news! It means that hopefully SFM footage and Black Mesa footage are similar enough to throw people off a little whenever there's a transition (usually marked by blinking or fade-in fade-out)
