I bought a auto prime from Lee years ago, about 40 years, and I still use it. I have had a new one in the box for years and it's still in the box. I can't imagine ever using my press to install primers again. You speak of the feel and it's all about that. After reloading brass a number of times the primer pockets will increase in size. With the auto prime I can feel when the brass is ready to be recycled and not reloaded.

I have the old Lee hand primer tool. The whole idea is to feel the primer anvil to hit bottom. Learned it from the Benchrest shooter. Used Other priming tools. Found Lee the best to give me what I want. By 2 Lee hand priming tools . One for large primers and one for small primers.

Seating primers is simple. Make sure the pocket is clean and seat the primer to the bottom of the pocket. The firing pin should not have to drive the primer in further. Once you have reloaded a few thousand rounds all you have to do is look and you can tell if it's correctly inserted.

Ive got the bench primer and I agree; good design; poor implementation. My shuttle had about 0.100" stroke for a primer that is 0.100 tall and wouldn't feed thru the chute. About 30 min worth of sand and file I have a $100 tool.

Dont forget you can also shorten the springs some. Will make the feel even better.
