Alex Higgins vs Terry Griffiths 1987 Masters Final Frame Part 2.avi

- Part 2 of the final frame. Complete with "pitch invasion" by fat drunken idiots. Having said that, crowd trouble in the modern day game would consist of a couple of teenagers drinking squash shouting things. Nobody drinks or smokes any more. They'll live longer, but don't know why they want to.
He was a genius. And a charismatic genius at that. Met him in 1993 I think, on a train from Limerick to Dublin. Made a really big deal of my disabled brother Colin at the time, even helped us take Colin's wheelchair apart to put in the boot of the cab. An absolute working class gentleman. "Don't let the bastards grind you down Colin" he said to my brother. Both of them have passed away since, Alex passed away before Colin. I'll never forget his kindness. RIP Alex
ive been on a snooker buzz the last while watching older games from players i remember as a kid and watching some of alex's shots blows my mind, he was one of the greats... sorry about colin aswell may they both RIP bed of heaven to them both
Alex Higgins is a modern snooker coaching nightmare - everything he does is “wrong” but it works...
Was going to comment the same, he "snatches" shots,
leaves half the cue over the table, (when he could easily
get his bridge hand on the cloth,) and don't even mention
"staying perfectly still" on the shot, everything coaches
tell you NOT to do, HE does, ..... just pure TALENT !!
He's like the "Jedi" of snooker, just, .... "use the force!!"
He always seemed different to all other players and thats coming from someone who is no expert
@Floydrush2112 Perfectly said. Only player in history to win TWO WC titles playing the game just by instinct ALONE. Fking mind boggling 🤪
Pablo Piscasso, Antônio Vivaldi, Srinivāsa Rāmānujan, Oscar Ó Wilde, Jean Baptiste Lully, Alan Turing, Heitor Villa Lobos. . .the list is long. Thank God for the Alex Higgins's of this Middle Earth.
The greatest ever and the reason modern-day players can become millionaires.
Agree
Ronnie is the greatest ever, that's just not up for debate with Hendry at number 2.
Alex changed the game and is one of the most entertaining players ever a natural talent but come on,he's not in the same league as Ronnie
Natural talent... even one of the best Steve Davis said he was the only true genius to play the game..no coaching was required for Alex
Ah Jack Karnehm's softly softly commentary - no exclamations of "What a shot" (I can see with my own eyes thank you very much) and leaves you to watch the snooker on display.
wish I could give that 100 thumbs up.
Best commentator for me and could play too. His ‘Good luck mate’ on Thorburns 147 is legendary.
Listen to the crowd..Alex the peoples champion
@Bach Wagner its called the peoples Champion
Alex to me was the greatest. Because he revolutionised the game and brought a brand of snooker which Inspired the modern day snooker we see now. If it wasn’t for him we may not have seen jimmy white and Ronnie
@Craig Yates Thats right Ronnie copied Davis' technique. However, i'm referring to the culture of the sport. Higgins revolusionised it, and whether or not ronnie copied his exactstyle, he certainly played a brand of snooker of that ilk
@@TheJohnCooper Ronnie plays allot of scoop down and up shots that's not many players seem to do.
David Icke on the sports reporting!
legend
7:24 lol. Alex is still standing, waiting for his next chance.
If he could play snooker 25 hours a day , it still wouldn't be enough for him.
#legend !!!
I noticed that. 🤣 I also think it was a psyching out tactic used to let his opponent know he was ready for the kill
Alex was the Greatest. He should’ve won more major titles but his showmanship cost him. Most players wouldn’t even look at some of the shots he took & got. Hurricane Higgins was a Snooker Genius RIP Legend Higgins
If he was alive today, he would have tore Selby a new ass hole, literally
Indeed, Higgins was an entertainer first.
Sorry this is a myth. Alex was not the greatest ever. His positional play was suspect. He was more a sideshow novelty than a showman. If he was such as showman how come his century career total is the same as Griffiths at 86? All huff and puff - did not have it mentally to do it consistently. The true greats master all aspects of the game of snooker - application, tactics, potting, composure.
@@nigefal Pathetic comment. Just proves you know nothing.
Nigefal, Ray Reardon won 6 world titles during the time Higgins was in his prime. People conveniently overlook that Higgins only won the title twice.
Alex my absolute hero and I was privileged to have been there that Sunday afternoon
What's your problem Paul, too much of the black stuff?
Wow u lucky guy, i was lucky to see him play hendry in Birmingham , was one of happiest days of my life , I loved Alex as a kid ❤️🌹👍💕
Good memory re capture... Alex always my lifetime best..😃😃😃
Greatest tachtition of all time, a true icon of the sport, such a waste of a good talent and man, he is sorely missed by all family friend fans and I know he was a true pal if Jimmy white🙏👌god bless
@Paul Gallagher wtf has that got to do with snooker laddy unless you are right dickhead
I was at the Norbreck Castle in Blackpool one Monday morning watching Alex Higgins play a qualifying match where he sent me to the bar for a whiskey and coke. Bottle of Stella and told me to get wherever I wanted. By 1pm and after 5 rounds of alcohol he won the match 5-1.

My snooker hero, Hurricane Higgins RIP Alex You Snooker Genius
Bonus footage of vintage David Icke at the end- best UA-cam clip I’ve seen all week
A reminder of how good Higgins was at potting reds which were touching or nearly touching the cushion, something which modern players often struggle with.
and also that he was a good billiards player which helps when he does those little stun cannons when he moved the pink away for the last red
Probably because the tables have steel rails a much tighter pockets
in fairness the modern star tables are much tighter
@Bach Wagner Thats simply not true, in the 80s they were playing on a BCE westbury which has much bigger pockets than a regulation star table, the pro cuts on star templates are even more difficult as well.
@Bach Wagner Tables never play the same day to day, which is why you hear players comment "theyre playing like buckets" its all based on external factors (humidity, surface temperature, wear and tear, etc) as well as how the mechanics fit the tables. with how good the conditions are that the players play on, they seem to play generous at times but also keep in mind that the players are professionals and they know the tables inside out... they play the right paces and various amounts of helping side to give the balls every chance to drop. The template is always the same and trust me they are tight, ive played on them.
Genuis at work the one and only Alex higgins Rip mate
The hair on Griffith’s was classic, like just out of the salon.
Big hair indeed...
What is that kind of hairstyle known as in the hairdressing industry?
@@a.tanner8524 Bouffant 😂
Rip Alex thanks for the memories growing up in the 80s 😎🎱👍
He was a mad genius and such an entertaining player to watch...thanks for the memories Alex and sleep well.
The charisma Alex had will never be matched. A total and utter rock star. I'd rather watch this 100 times than the product on offer these days. And to pot that blue in the middle where he threw his body at it and still got perfect position on the next red was an incredible shot.
When I was a kid, I remember having to press Fast-Forward on my VHS whenever Terry Griffiths was on.
Even then it was normal play speed :-)
@@momentumstocks3493 Lol, wrote this several months ago and your reply in rendering a revisit to this 'conversation' has made me laugh and happy :-D :-)
Terry was so boring
I once heard Terry took over a hour for a frame
that blue in the side when the cue ball was on the rail....was just incredible....and those balls were heavier then....just spectacular!!!!! wonder how many pros today could do that hit and get the shape he got
They wouldn't have been using the old heavier balls as late as the 1980s I wouldn't have thought.
the balls wernt heavier but the cloth was deffintely slower, tho the pockets were all bigger...
Alex won 25 trophies, so with all the snooker play from past to present he would come in at 12th not bad for someone who entertained the crowds. Do if they had a tournament of the top 16 player that have won silver wear he would have been in there. Plus he was a triple crown winner only 11 players to have done this.
He was the peoples 🏆
Many Thanks for posting!!! Legend!!!
Love you Alex, you were simply beautiful. ❤
Higgens is a Legend'
There is no better sight in snooker than Alex Higgins in full flow
RIP CHAMP. You were the Greatest
Higgins wasn’t the most consistent but when he was good he’s was brilliant.
Higgins is like a bumble Bee in flight. It shouldn't work, but it does 🤔
Alex was an amazing snooker player😀🎱 he was not scared , he just played in his own style☺
What An amazing player Alex is xx 😍❤

two completely opposing players. Alex "Hurricane" Higgins & Terry "the Griffalo" Griffiths
Never seen a player mobbed like Alex,to me the most watchable player ever, such skill just amazing, just my opinion tho,so many great players out there but only one Alex
"most watchable player ever" I 100% agree with you, not the best player ever but certainly the most captivating. Knowing what he was capable of on his day always drew me in.
Lol Terry looks like them old vampire in old movies
I never saw a vampire with blonde hair.
Teddi786 OG Ray Reardon was nicknamed Dracula, check him out if you don't know him.
Higgins had the crowd in raptures
Atmosphere was electric. I was there.
Most loved snooker player ever
One word - magic.
I don't think the fan meant any harm. Some people get a bit carried away.
Greatest of all time...not his fault he didn't win more...misunderstood...never meant any harm...lovely guy really...I mean seriously, for how much longer are people going to peddle such crap??
Lol I thought it was the final the way the crowd were reacting. It was only the first round.
" So Alex Higgins goes through to the quarter finals ", this is not the first round you muppet.
It is in the masters as there is only 16 players entered. Muppet !!!
He got to the final. Losing 9 8 to Dennis taylor having lead 8 5
Was it David Icke at the end of
Slowest man in the world v fastest man in the world. A little like Ebdon v O'Sullivan in 2005 world quarter final
The quality of snooker compared to todays standards is shocking
You are right these guys would be swept away by the likes of Selby, O'Sullivan, Judd and Robertson but I suppose you can only be the best in your era. The 1966 World cup winning England team would be beaten 8-0 by the current Liverpool side. I've been told that the two main characters in Chariots of Fire wouldn't even qualify for the women's Olympics now and Roger Bannister probably wouldn't make the mile final. But at the time we thought they were great.
@@gregerlach your forgetting the difference in sports wear and the improvement of running tracks in that equation.
Alex never got the credit for his superb safety play.
1:27 and 1:33
Alex taps the table woodside with his cue...twice
Now you can understand where John Virgo took his 'Alex Higgins' impersonation from for his Trickshot Champ shows. Lol
Alex Legend of snooker.
To get rid of too much chalk.
Alex didn't like blowing chalk off of his cue tip....... preferred to snort after the game, with Jimmy and Kirk....
The Donald Trump of snooker
David ike at the end wow....... Where as the time gone?
0:55...skill!
Great content keep up the good content :)
Nearly a riot at the end there!
Please if any of you like Higgins go and watch
Alex Higgins vs John Virgo private game
You can thank me later
I saw it a while ago and it's a lovely frame!! One handed in the middle! And that pink??!!
Look who it is at the end there. Blimey!
Who is it?
@@Jmith-su3ze David Icke : The Prophet
Alex walks round the table better than anyone!
David Icke...legend
He was the greatest talent .
Love Terry and Alex 🎉
What about the lovely flowers on the arena floor and the lovely deep buttoned Chesterfield chairs for the players to make them feel comfortable like being in granny's living room. All you get today is truly horrible sets and banners with Betfair or 888.com logos splashed everywhere.
David icke before shit got real .
Tavy@ he was the greatest player ever. He put snooker on the map and tv just when the game was being pulled of the tv becouse it was so boring. Nobody could sit and watch a reardon and spencer world final for about 6 days to end. Just playing none stop safety shots for hours on end, the game was dieying there was no money to be made. Till alex higgins changed all that, if alex had played for himself and trained hard and not played for the crowd he wouldv won at least 7 world titles and about 8 uk titles and the rest. He wouldv ran over steve davis easy on any day. But you would of then saw a diffrent higgins he would of had to have played a bit boring more, not all the time becouse the man was a natural at the game. He is the best safety player i have ever saw. So he showed us he can play like that too when he wanted. I remember in 1982 against doug mountjoy it was a great match and alex was playing for himself not the crowd and it was about 9-8 in frames to alex and there was no reds to pot as they wer all tied up and alex played 3 safety shots in a row and put the white ball tight behind the green and this was still great to watch. mountjoy tapped the table 3 times to say great shot. Alex was brilliant in that quarter final match against a great doug mountjoy even better than his semi final win against jimmy apart from that famous clearance alex did at 14-15 down and 59 points behind he did about 5 or 6 shots and a dont know he managed to do them and av watched it about 50 times. Even barry hearn said its the best break hes ever seen. Becouse alex didnt or couldnt play for position with the way the balls were when he came to the table, becouse every one thought jimmy had beaten him, he only needed 3 more reds to leave alex needing 2 snookers and then missesd a quite easy yellow a thinck. Then alex just went for a long red that was 11 feet away and really hard and then a 10 foot away long green as the white was next to the black and it just kept going on like that, he just couldnt get any position thats what made it so great and famous he took the most crazy risks at times knowing 1 miss and he was over. Then the ultra famous long blue on its spot and leaning over about 6 reds pink and black, he then potted it into the top right hand pocket with deep left handed side screw back of the left cushion and back down into the reds. It almost brought the roof down that shot. Every player has admitted they have studied it and tried it about 100 times and none has ever done it. Steve davis said one time when the tv was shown alex doing that shot as steve comentated it, steve said "a thinck just as alex hits the shot with tremendous bottom left sided screw back and with alot of power a thinck he just slightly kind of flicks hes wrist as he hits it but in a way he will never say why or how he did it becouse its just magic really and magicians dont give away there secrets, but theres no other way a can thinck how he managed it. I can pot the blue and put the same deep left sided screw back into the white ball to come off the left cushion but i cant get enough power into it to come down as far as alex did to get to a red. And when a try harder a just knock the white ball of the table or miss the blue by 8 inches. And i believe alex could of done it again and again. Its my favourite alex higgins shot becouse of the pressure he was under to do it and i cant do it ever (steve laughs) but brilliant hes the greatest player i have ever seen" a thought that was really nice of steve when i thinck he didnt like alex higgins the person. But alex then won the next frame then ran over ray reardon in the final. But this alex playing for himself and family not the crowd, but would a want alex to have been diffrent and won everything. Not really. A thinck alex just saw big trophys as dust collectors lol george best was the same...now what player he was and he could play football lol.
Cool story bro

Yes, who would have thought that with Alex on the scene the most nutty one would turn out to be the calm presenter!
Andrew Morton yeah I thought same when he interviewed Jimmy white and Kirk Stevens , both much more sensible than him
Icke has been right about plenty. ( paedophile rings, royal family involvement, Jimmy saville, Ted Heath etc )
@@andrewmorton3344 you're an idiot.

Just to point out this was to make the quarter finals and was not the final
What’s with the hooligans rite at the end
lmao same cues u get in a pub!!!
Class player
Higgins made snooker Rock n roll
Great and brave player
Wait.. what happened at the end?!
snoooker was a little different back then the balls were heavier and didnt break up as easy like they do today!
lighter you mean, thick cloth not heated that time so much more work to do to split reds
i played well with the BCE tables 3X years ago but then completely lost confidence with the RILEY and STAR now
Oi oi...sir david icke
Aka the messiah
Rest his soul
Alex you legend 🙏
Alex wudnt stand a chance against the modern players , and im a massive fan of his from Belfast.
His problem nowadays would be access to the expensive star tables world snooker use's , i saw a bbc thing years ago about mark allen’s parents having to sacrifice putting an expensive pro table in his house to help him become a pro , thats why allen shot out of nowhere into the top 16 , also why most english players at the q school aren’t good enough because they don’t get enough access , higgins would still be a good player now if his parents provided it for him like allen and kyren wilson , its not really about talent just money .
Higgys ego wudnt like a 17yo Chinese kid beating him either.......... Allen better start losing some girth or hes gonna end up like Higgy and Best.
Us Northern Irish are well known for our big gobs !!
seen how visibly pissed higgins is man. blokes a total joke of a sportsman in my opinion
David icke!
See terry Griffiths might have been slow but give him an inch and he would take a yard trust it. You would be sat down for ages.
God I'd love if higgins had practiced
David Icke at the end....

Was it Yates bodyguard on the end of the match? Future MR OLIMPIA?
Terry Griffis is so boring at snooker boring boring terry
Yay ! David Icke at the end.
These two are polar opposites. Alex is the most exciting player in the game. Terry is by far the most boring and dull to watch...
Imagine Alex playing with the cues and snooker tables they have nowa days would be frightening
Todays players are mince compared with Higgins and Griffiths.
Correctum.
Ronnie would eat them both alive
@@underneonloneliness2 they wouldn't give him the chance.
Many many years ago I played against him in a place in Manchester called The Potters bar which served alcohol. Alex was steaming when I played him and he still wiped the floor with me. If I remember I had about a 40 start and lost £10 or £20. By the way one the commentators in this video is Jim Meadowcroft who I played and beat at Butlins in Wales in the early 80’s
