I couldn't have potted that pink in my dreams. Those last two shots are the best I've ever seen from someone who was already old and sick. But he always played with his soul that's why for me he's the best to have ever played this game.
Alex will always be a legend.... simply a natural talent.... his shot selection and the use of the cushions to work all around the table is still some of the best I have ever seen. The break off four cushions, that pink down the whole table. Simply a joy to watch.
There will never be another snooker player like Alex Higgins. He was one in a million , sadly missed now, but will never be forgotten.. John Virgo is a fantastic snooker player also.
@@martin-d4h reports say 60 million people play snooker, and that's just in China alone. Then you have the rest of the world too. based on the original comment, i estimate there's between 100 to 150 Alex Higgins snooker players alive today.
The Man was a true artist/genius with the flaws that can go with that blessing/curse... Completely unique player/person.. a "one-off.." He could display the most incredible cue power and also the most sensitive of touches you've ever seen.. There'll NEVER be another Alex. I was lucky enough to attend an exibition match between Alex & Jimmy White at The Fairfield Halls in Croydon. Some years ago,now... :)
That Pink and Black was like a magician. “If you believe it and can see it you can do it”. A true snooker visionary, ahead of his time. What a player and character. Yes he could have perhaps won more but with Higgins it was an acceptance of the whole package or nothing at all. He played to the beat of his own drum. R.I.P Alex.🙏❤️.x
Higgins was a different breed. Just watching him potting is a joy to behold but those last two shots are utterly ridiculous. What a player. What a character.
I've seen this finish quite a few times now, and even though it was exhibition snooker, no pressure, that's two of the best shots ever seen, the type of shots Higgins pulled off all his career when under all sorts of pressure. "..i visualised it, and if you believe it, you can do all sorts..", and he very often did, in the early days anyway, a truly unique player, even if he wasn't everyones cup of tea. R.I.P. Alex
Regardless of all the bad press he got, and some of it was richly deserved, he was a true genius and I loved him!! Never be another package like him. Wherever he is, I hope he's having a drink and smoking a ciggy and backing winners. God bless him.
For me Alex is the greatest of all time. Ronnie or hendry are the best of all time but greatness is measured differently. No one moved the game forward as much as Alex.
When he was like this he needed a beak adjustment. He either had too much beak or not enough. His 'comfort break' would suggest the latter. God bless him, the most unorthodox and personable player that has lived
Very good player and amazing entertainer I will give you that but not even close to be the greatest ever. Alex was known for his amazing pots but he was forced to it due to his average positional play. Ronnie O'Sullivan is the greatest snooker player to ever lived. If Ronnie had started working with his sports psychiatric earlier in his career I believe he could have won the world championship like 10 times. And the fact that at the age of 42 and still wining trophies tells a lot about his qualities.
START OF FRAME ,ALEX SLICED THE PINK INTO THE MIDDLE. ABSOLUTELY SPEECHLESS SEEN THAT SHOT ❤ALEX. I LOVED SNOOKER BECAUSE OF HIM AS A CHILD 8-9 YEAR OLD 😊 2:37
I visulised it and then it happened. A character we were incredibly lucky to have in our time. He's now causing havoc somewhere in eternity with the likes of Oliver Reed and Keith Moon.
This dude was the most entertaining snooker player ever, then Jimmy White took over from him, and after that, Ronnie O'Sullivan. This was just a friendly/private match, that's why he was doing what he was doing. It shows how capable he is, and how entertaining he was, that's why, he's the PEOPLE'S CHAMPION.
Alex tried so hard for position but always had to rely on his potting as the white is all over the place. "Old School Snooker" but so great to watch. You can hear Alex criticising himself on simple shots which is part of his package and a great video to watch. Brilliant pink cut; red in the middle at pace; then the red doubled early in the break then unfortunately the 'regulatory' black-off-the-spot miss and so typical after the heroics. Also, you get the balls out the pockets for your opponent Alex!! JV did, but you shied-off.... He's a gent and I think missed at least once on purpose....
Had he had controlled his 'demons' and knuckled down to his game, he would have definitely won more tournaments. But whatever, he single handily bought snooker to the masses and made it as popular and profitable as it is today so professional players of the game have a lot to thank Higgins for.

agree
Plus he would have played it with loads of left hand side to get down to the black.
“Try and visualise it, and if you believe it, you can do all sorts”. Must try this in my next league match. What a player.
It don’t work, I lost on the black :(

Bewitching brilliance! And Alex called the one-handed black finish before he’d potted the brown!!!
