Control arm bushing rod or something
2004 trailblazer the control arm bushing
Top 2 frame bolts on my 2004 Trailblazer accepted either 21mm or 13/16 wrenches. I found using channel lock pliers for final removal of these bolts more useful than regular pliers. The directions for removal and replacement are easy to follow and very helpful.
Wow, after watching your tutorial I was able to do myself. Can't thank you guys enough!
+Rob M Congratulations on the successful repair. We're glad the video helped you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Just got my order from 1A auto for these. 4 bushings from a major auto parts store was the same price as buying the 2 control arms fom 1A auto, and don't have to mess with pressing out bushings. Nice!
I have an 09 envoy Denali very fun suv in my opinion glad A1 makes these videos cause I want to do some upgrades to mine
really love your videos...they help make working on my '03 Trailblazer much easier. Keep up the good work!
+William Diaz Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
All these videos of upper and lower control arms ball joint and so on WITHOUT TORQUE SPECS!. Torque spec, are very important and should be disclosed in your and everyone's videos.
+Mr. Solar Thanks for the feedback!
Im having the hardest time getting the bolts back in place watched it down looks easy enough i go to do it dont have enough room to get the control arm in with the bolts in it or i get the control arm in but cant get the bolts in place
Another super helpful video! Had to bend the edge of the fender on the front driver's side a bit to get the bolt all the way out tho. Just get a big pry bar in there and use the bolt for leverage to pull the lip towards you until the bolt will clear, won't hurt anything.
+Mr UnXnowN Thanks for checking us out!
I seen this being a problem and wanted to watch a video. Little deceiving when you did the passenger side and said the driver side is the same procedure...
The 21mm bolts should they b tight because I'm told I have some space between n it shouldn't b n it's creating more issues with ball joints
Any part information on the 18 mm bolt that pinches the yoke to the strut??
I didn’t have any room to remove the control arm so I can to cut the frame
Very good video. Not sure if we will do the work, or have place in town do the work.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for checking out our videos. If you do decide to do the work yourself, we carry the parts on our website. Here's a link! We also offer free shipping on all orders in the US. www.1aauto.com/control-arm-front-passenger-side/i/1asfu00020?UA-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony
I really like your videos. Very helpful and easy to follow. Question: when replacing the upper control arms on the Trailblazer/Envoy, is it necessary to replace the ball joints as well, or only if they are frozen? Thanks!
You may want to take the age, mileage and condition on the ball joints into consideration. If you plan on keeping the vehicle and they have seen better days, you may want to replace them while you are in there as a preventative maintenance measure. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day. 1aauto.com
Thanks for the input and take care!
Only 100 ft lbs for the upper control arm bolts I thought it was 144 but I did the same you can only fit an open end wrench and yank as hard as you can lol hopefully they don’t loosen up
I was driving my truck and the bolt popped out and had to pull over.
Would buying a new bolt and bushing fix the problem or is the threading stripped that can prevent me from screwing in the new bolt?
Hey,
Are you supporting the vehicle under the frame, or under the lower control arm? I am asking because I want to make sure there isn't spring tension on the suspension before I start loosening things. Sudden spring pressure release could hurt, and suck.
Thanks for the video
Jeff
would this method work on driver side too with clearance issues?
+Captain Balor Thank you for checking us out. The procedure for the driver side should be very similar, however due to the clearance issues some other components may be required to be loosened or removed in order to fully replace. 1aauto.com
This guy will show you how to do the driver side, if you haven't seen it already... ua-cam.com/video/wZGr8Xf2ip8/v-deo.html
Driver side blows I just did mine had to notch out sheet metal by both bolts
Is it better just to replace the whole control arm, when the bushings are bad? It looks like a pain to eject the bushings, and you have to take the damn arm off anyway..thanks! good video👍
+A. S. Sometimes it is easier. We carry a lot of control arm kits with the bushings already in place, many times the ball joints too! Here's a link to the control arm we installed in this video on our website. Hope this helps you out www.1aauto.com/control-arm-front-passenger-side/i/1asfu00020#UA-cam&CTA%20Comment&
And the whole assembly is the same price as buying 4 bushings.
What about a how to video of doing the LOWER control arms?🤷♂️ Your other vids are great tho... my 07 Envoy Denali
+Michael Gillette Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com
1A Auto Parts lower control arms?
Just changed mine. My caster is now 4 degrees negative and my steering wheel won’t return to center on its own. Does this repair normally affect caster?
Yes, you need to get the front alignment
Caster is mainly controlled by the lower control arm mounting bracket.
How do I know when il it's needed to be replaced? my car makes noise when I go over bumps and turn wheel right to left in that case all the time???
Elizabeth Mendez you look at the bushings and if it makes a noise when you move it it needs to be replaced
Elizabeth Mendez also your steering wheel will shake alot going down bump hills and often times you cant even use brakes
What does tighten preliminarily mean?
Means "as a first step."
What is the part number to the clip that installs in the upper control arm for the brake line?
