Hey everyone. I’d like to thank you all for the support lately. It’s blown me away and we’re about to hit 10k subs soon, which is INSANE. Again, thank you! Next vid will cover 3D All Stars speedruns (including Sunshine and Galaxy) so look forward to that! Been busy with midterm exams so I apologize for making y’all wait.
Hey man be careful with the new switch version of DKC2 and Mario64. The controllers timing is off and the D-pad is acting screwy. Just thought I would warn you and anyone else thinking about getting the game. It's still good. You will just have to readjust to the timing for everything.
I suspect Nintendo didn’t know about it either, but they realised while updating it that they accidentally didn’t include a backwards speed cap, and added one, patching out the BLJ. People often talk about it as Nintendo patching the BLJ specifically, to target speedrunners, but really it was just fixing a minor mistake that just so happened to kill the BLJ (and other glitches).
edit/addon: Why isnt 50 star a speedrun category or 30 star or even 1 key(this one seems unlikely unless a new strat is found or a tas category or something)? i think it could be viable for runners to have some shorter but funner runs
When you talked about the November 2000 issue of Club Nintendo i went to my collection of magazines and i actually own this one, its so cool that Mexican players discover one of the most well known and iconic SM64 tricks ever
It's also extremely frustrating since the timing is so precise that if you get it off by a slight margin, you can screw it all up and not build up enough speed.
Extremely high quality for such a small channel! Half the creators with millions of subs probably don’t spend as much time on videos as you looking at the quality of this masterpiece, I loved every bit of this! I’m excited to see what’s next. Also there was a lot of new information that I never knew so that was cool too.
Tbh, you kinda do be shooting up in subs extremely quickly, so glad you put this video in smallant’s Discord server so I could find it while you were still a little smaller so I can see your channel grow a little
Your subs have doubled since I checked earlier today, that was about 10 and a half hours ago, small channels usually grow slowly and large channels can’t grow too quick because they already have a bunch of subscribers so compared to their sub total each sub is nothing but you just seem so get at least a hundred subs every time I check how many you have
Some scans of the December '96 Japanese "Super Mario 64 Complete Clear Guide Book" came out today, and you can see on page 135 a clear documentation of the use of the BLJ to skip the endless staircase! I know the internet wasn't widespread back then but its amazing how long this trick flew under the consciousness of (particularly) westerners given how long it was known about, given its usefulness and eventual infamy.
@@immaguy7905 I know it's a joke, but serious talk just in case anyone reading this takes it seriously (because the internet can bring out the worst in people)... A half-A press is a naming convention for minimal A-press runs - it refers to an A-press that's only necessary in an individual star run and can simply be piggy-backed off a previous A-press in a full-game run. Example: Swimming in Dire Dire Docks requires you to press and hold the A-button, but in a full-game run you can hold the A-button from the star select screen to avoid the extra A-press at the start of the level, whereas you can't in an individual star run. Thus, it's called a "half-A-press".

Endless stairs BLJ part is outdated now. Now we know it was found right after the game came out basically. Still the discovery in 2000 by him was very important for the game
To expand on the endless staircase, the actual reason why his speed built up past the teleport was because the game recognises mario’s movements in quatersteps (if there is a wall or something like a teleporting trigger between quarterstep number 2 and 3, the game will bring you to quarterstep 1, then 2, then put you at the wall). This made it so mario’s first quarterstep reached all the way past the teleporting trigger and since quarterstep #1 was past the teleporting trigger, the game had no other choice but to bring mario to the first quarterstep

This is one of the most informative and amazing video I have seen in a long ass while

I really hope your channel blows up, this was a really good video!
Little tip: Everyone knows what the subscribe button does, and people are not going to do it just because you ask them to. Begging like that actually just causes irritation.
People will subscribe because of your content, and only because of that. Make videos people will watch. It's that simple
There was this one time where I glitches so hard on the endless steps that the game literally brought me into the water spider painting
You likely BLJed on the left side of the stairs. That happens if you BLJ on that side
@@LunaticJ how did you know?
@@Track_-gr6zj Its a super common and a well documented glitch. Also I've done that before lol
@@LunaticJ ima go practice the glitch
Not even that long later and it happened again but this time I didn't even see the bowser painting at the top
Finally you're starting to gain the subscribers you deserve mad man
Mario 64 is a decade older than me and I love that I get to see it evolve as if I was there from the beginning
Me on 2 hours of sleep, saw BLJ as BJ...
You gained a sub from me, I’m all in for supporting a small high quality upstart speedrun retrospective channel
Everyone else: BLJ
Me: Back yeet
Just saw this video and then I watched more of you, your videos are such a high quality I thought you have at least 100k subscribers. My friend you have a new subscriber! Keep up the good work and I hope one day you will have 1 Million subscribers 👍🏽
I remember trying to do BLJ on Mario 64 DS when I was young
I did even worse. When SM64 came out on the wii virtual console I thought it was a remake of super mario 64 DS and I didn't understand why the graphics were so bad
Did it work?
Baylee T no
@Andrea Botti i assume you were also confused on why Yoshi, Wario, and Luigi weren’t in the game
God damn this is the first video of yours I think I've seen and it was very good but that subbed to unsubbed ratio made me sub cause GOD DAMN
I was bold putting that there. I had less than 100 subs when I uploaded this lol
@@LunaticJ well it worked I'm subbed now lol
I just wanna say I saw this video in my recommendations
To be honest, Super Mario 64 speedrunning and specifically all the BLJ tricks are what got me interested in Mario 64 in the first place, and probably even in the entire series.
So although it’s just a silly glitch and was never meant to be in the game, I am so glad it exist.
At 0:04 Bathaniel Nandy was offended.
The disrespect is unjust
