I love the piano thrown in. A lot of us SOAD fans have been listening to these songs for potentially decades now, so it's not like we're missing anything from a song we've heard a thousand times.
The sound of his improvisations on the piano gave me heavy Silent Hill vibes. The scales and keys that he worked with inside the song built an eerie, tense, and almost melancholy atmosphere that was cool to hear. I think the addition of David's melody would elevate it live if he got the chance!
Oh I’m so glad you’re reacting to this one!!! Spiders doesn’t get enough love. Really excellent display of his vocal talent and just a good feel for the band overall.
I am so happy that spiders was picked. This is my no 1 SOAD track. I love playing bass to this, there is so much dynamic energy in the sound and the way you move around when you play it (if that makes sense)
I love when you play along with the band. I'm amazed that you can pick it up so quickly. You have a good ear. I'm jealous. My grandma had the same natural ability. I'm glad you don't care what the hater's say. I love your reactions and the education that you provide. Keep up the good work and keep being you.
The reason for the c minor all the time is due to them using Drop C tuning :) I am sure someone else has pointed that out before but thought I would say :)
I think I need to hear a full piano cover of this song now...I always knew I loved this song more than most of their stuff but hearing the chords come out more clearly on piano elevated it even further
It's so weird seeing this old video of Serj with dreads. This song was in the Scream 3 movie back in the day. "I don't know what happened to my keyboard. God did that." Hahaha! Starset - Bringing It Down
This song was so damn good. Just a whole vibe, and I love the vocals on it. Just something haunting and amazing about it. I also love the song Suggestions from this album (their self-titled/early stuff).
Super happy I stumbled across your channel really entertaining and I just love watching people play piano especially when you can just hear it and play the shit out of it!
@@xRamZx I know, but he only does 5. My guess was Sugar, Chop Suey, Toxicity, Aerials, BYOB. So he might not check BYOB or Aerials? You can't do that. 😉
your reactions of SOAD are the best,,,you're talent is just woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwww😍 i want to cry every time you do that piano accompaniments🥲❤❤❤
I realize the way I put it was weird so just to be clear. My album preferences from top to bottom are: Good Apollo Vol 1 In Keeping Secrets Afterman Ascension Afterman Descension Good Apollo Vol 2 Vaxis Second Stage Year of The Black Rainbow Color Before The more their music has prog rock infused into it but not purely prog rock over an album, the better it works for me.
@@gellister ah! I see. We are the same. Those are my least two favorite albums too. My order is different but a coheed fan is a coheed fan! I love that everything they do is so different from what other bands do. There really is no other band that is similar and they have been my favorite band for 17 years. And their live performances are out of this world incredible! Keep rockin!👊
Damn, how com I have JUST found you now?! This format is so much FUN! Imma watch all your videos now. It's happening. It's done. Subscribed like a mad man too, you may have felt that. Jesus, what a good job you do with these videos, holy shit. So much fun :)
This is my all time favourite song. My previous favourites were #3 Bullet With Butterfly Wings, then #2 Creep (Stone Temple Pilots). Didn't think anything could be better than them.
Bit late, but give a listen to Mississippi John Hurt, Doc Watson, and Leadbelly. Different genre entirely but if you're a rocker or metal head you'll love them, I know I did.
before I gave up learning guitar I used to play this song a lot on my "nylon-stringed-acoustic-guitar" (i dunno how it's called in english.. classic guitar? dunno) ; but i love this song. the kinda melancholic vibe that is actually very good to listen to. :)
Speaking of production, I heard somewhere that Sylvia Massy decided to hang Serj upside down to record vocals for Spiders, which resulted in Serj's fainting while doing this
Oh hell yeah a great pick! Literally any song you can do from them is a masterpiece. So you have done two from the self tittled, you should do 2 for toxicity album (aerials and toxicity imo) and the last one should be b.y.o.b
Suggestions for next 5 by: Apocalyptica - Any song to get familiar with. Apocalyptica feat. Corey Taylor - I'm Not Jesus Apocalyptica feat. Lacey Strum - Broken Pieces Apocalyptica feat. Adam Gontier - I don't Care Apocalyptica feat. Jacoby Shaddix - White room Any thoughts?
I’m glad you’ve picked one of the musically impressive songs rather than one more known for … memes? Levity? Politics? I love SOAD but some songs are more worthy of analysis than others. Spiders is beautiful
Loving there videos man! Too hard to give you suggestions for SOAD songs because they are all great. You should do your next one on Trivium. Would love to see you analyse "In Waves" especially the live at Chapman studios version. Keep up the good work!!
Good job, I love System Of a Down, I was 13 years old when I start listen them :) Greetings from Poland. ps. Meybe try make System of a down - question (piano version) on cam ? :)

System of a Down-Questions! You won’t be disappointed
YES
second this !
3rd this one. Beautiful harmonies in this song.
Questions is my fav SOAD song! :)
Yes please!
Hope we'll have Aerials coming up in this five, great song
Definitely!!!
100% should do a piano cover of this song!
Listening to you play along is a highlight - I’ve heard the song a thousand times it’s awesome to watch it come alive again for someone else
Oh I’m so glad you’re reacting to this one!!! Spiders doesn’t get enough love. Really excellent display of his vocal talent and just a good feel for the band overall.

I just learnt the bass to this song and that riff at the start is so amazing to just pick up and play I love it
Produced by the great Sylvia Massey who also produced the first Tool record. She is an absolute genius mad scientist.
She is! I love her
Nope. Produced by Rick Rubin. All of their albums are produced by Rick
@@goranh624 yeah she didn't produce it but she did engineer specifically this song, Spiders, as well as some of their other stuff
I think with what we know about RR that whoever was the engineer probably had much more to do with how the songs sound than he does lol
Bass guitar is like janitorial services. You don't realize when they are there, but you definitely notice their absence.
YES
also, any shit people give you boosts you in the algorithm, so... bring it on!
It's so funny watching David play about and get incredibly close to Serj's solo songs. One sounded very similar to "Lie, Lie, Lie"
I'm from France and I love this content, it powers up my english and help me to analyse a song i love so much. Thank you

Impossible to not have fun seeing you having so much fun with the keyboard
I come to these partly to hear how they sound along with your keyboard. Keep doing what makes this channel unique, and solid picks this week!
Definitely listen to “Questions” by System my friend! You’ll love it! :)
Screw anybody that gives you shit for playing along. That's why we watch you.
The reason for the c minor all the time is due to them using Drop C tuning :) I am sure someone else has pointed that out before but thought I would say :)
You need somthing like 20 by them to understand them more
Holy fuck I'm so glad I've came across your content, god bless you for doing what you're doing!
chop suey is fun to pick apart because there are so many layers and instruments also its their most popular song
I think I need to hear a full piano cover of this song now...I always knew I loved this song more than most of their stuff but hearing the chords come out more clearly on piano elevated it even further
These piano parts sound sooo great!!! Would be awesome to have songs covered like this by you! Many people would pay for this
I think David would LOVE Serj Tankians original songs, such as Empty Walls and other of his composer stuff ❤
The Bob Villa cameo got me.
9:16 It sounds like Knocking at you backdoor from Deep Purple. Hahaha

I'm a bit surprised by the song-choices so far. Not that these are bad, but not the most common choices, when someone reacts to System of a down. 😊
the less common the better ... the famous ones are played too much .. and again and again and again....
He's starting from the beginning, these were the two biggest tracks off that first album. Makes perfect sense.

Great choice
I really liked your explanation of the change from natural minor to harmonic minor, its neat to see that applied in a song I know well!
as a bassist, I’m very happy with what you said at the beginning David. thanks
Need to think Middle Eastern kinda folk music when listening to System.

one of my favorites of theirs
Loved all the flourishes you added in today 🍻
"Just know i dont care" this cat is a boss and im glad i found this dude sick classic track
Empty Walls!!
Someone should have a channel called "take out the bass", so we can all watch the sad reactions, lol. I love the additional keys talent BTW!
That change in the bridge is very common to hear on their songs. Its like their far european- Armenian influence and it sounds always awesome!!!
I LOVE THE THEORY IN THIS ONE!!! 😍😍😍😍 THANK YOU!!!
You’re welcome Gabe!
I’m glad you don’t care, because what you play is beautiful.
I love that you have Spiders over other "hits" . Super underrated composition. Hi Dave😃
This is a great and valuable analysis, keep up the good work

The 5 by is a great idea. Another band that deserves a 5 by is HIM..thanks in advanced

The producer of this debut album is Rick Rubin. He is a really great person and a very very very talented producer.
Not only of this debut. He produced all 5 System of a down albums.

Love your piano improv there, would like to hear a cover of this song by you.
omg please do Forest!!! the chorus of that song live was amazing, the entire arena singing along.
Great song
Glad I found this channel, there was only 1 good reaction channel on the entire website before, but now there's 2.
FACTS! Bass guitar players get such little love. Well the exception is Flea from RHCP
Truth
And Claypool from Primus
One of the best highlights for bass guitar in recent music is the song Seeman by Rammstein. The bass line is what drives the song.
LOATHE-A sad cartoon! next! Biggest band in the world. The tone and atmosphere is so unique
I love this song so much, a good one to listen to is prison song it makes u think...also holy mountains hits hard through the ears and in the feels
Aerials and Question! are 2 amazing ones you should check
Hell you could do a solid 5 from just that album. It's perfect.
SOAD ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Speaking of production, I heard somewhere that Sylvia Massy decided to hang Serj upside down to record vocals for Spiders, which resulted in Serj's fainting while doing this

Hey David, are they bangers maybe? And are they, oh I don’t know, banging?
I’m a total dork
This video reminds me of "Krull" (1983):" more specifically the scene with the "widow of the Web"
Bro hit the Tool switch on the keyboard XD
should check out dreaming by them. The vocal harmony and counter harmonies are weird but majestic
Serj did guest appear for Tool in 2007 to sing along to Tool's song Sober. The vid is on UA-cam somewhere
don't forget to thank the mighty jingles
You really should play keyboard with them I just love what you're doing !
