One thing on maintenance, the aux belt is due every 3 years or 36k. It's the number 1 killer of these engines, because it's an interference engine, if the aux belt snaps, more than likely it will wrap around the timing belt, timing will jump and valves kiss pistons. This was a major issue when the cars were a few years old with many having engines changed under warranty, Renault therefore changed the service interval on the aux belt from every 5 years to the proper 3 year interval.
I’ve got a French racing blue 182 cup. Owned it for 12 years and I’ve only just discovered it’s a “cup” now. Another difference was that the car comes with material seats instead of leather/alcantara. I had the rear arches fixed on mine as they both rusted. Bonnet front corners are a bugger too and they still need doing. Love the car, nice video!
@@tomm9716luckily it was just surface, I paid £200 to get both arches repaired and repainted. Sold the car 2 months ago and it looked good still. Make sure whoever does it does it properly. If any is missed it’ll come back
I love the 172 cup , had to sell mine couple years ago to fund a house , I like how the carpet is thinner and the glass , little details like that really make me happy
The early 2000s area were the peak of cars. Way more less electronics but still save to drive, furthermore the functions were more simple to handle and the prices were affordable. Cars these days suck because they are full packed with technology and you control almost everything via touch wich is laborious, additional you've so many shenanigans of what you don't use in 99% of cases. I would take that Clio over any modern car.
Also missing some options, Recaro Trendline seats were a rare and expensive option on later 182s, so was a CD changer. Also surprised you didn't mention the plethora of colours.
Nice vid, top work! I'm in the middle of restoring mine I've owned for over a decade and one thing that has only very recently become tricky is some of the parts, you can't get them from Renault anymore so front control arms and brake lines I've got aftermarket bits from KTEC. Also the 182 Cup pack has bespoke ABS rings just to add to the fun! Sadly I think a lot of this faff means a lot will disappear very soon...
Had one of these, was great fun to drive. Now have a Civic Type R FN2, whilst the Clio was good fun it was a lot of hassle. Should have spent bit more and got Civic Type R EP3 on hindsight!
I nearly bought one of these last year, but was persuaded against it due to poor build quality. I had to find out myself and have to say It was the best decision I made. I opted for an R56 JCW, which is leagues ahead in terms of build, performance and looks.
As an R56 owner myself the build quality of the mini isn’t anything to write home about, neither is the performance or handling. The Clio is just as nippy and handles much better. And let’s not forget how hideously unreliable the R56s are, renowned for being unreliable. Owned a 182 a few years ago and it was a much better car than my mini, maybe not as comfy but that’s the only negative.
@@ScottishCarClan yeye, I've got a magazine from a year 2004 where they gave it that nickname lol. Although I translated it to english from serbian language, it may not sound good as much as on serbian but yeah its a one hell of a fun car 🤣🤣🤣
They're worth buying ESPECIALLY now as they're still affordable. Think about the days when the clio Williams was a couple of grand, or the 182 trophy, or the clio v6 when it was arround 25k. Remember those times? yeah..
Gearboxes on these aren't the strongest. The synchros wear, normally 3rd is first to go so check for crunches. Also the selector shaft tends to leak a bit of transmission fluid. Great little cars though, love mine!
@@tomm9716 mine is on about 115k and it’s ok but if you rush it you will get a crunch on 5th. I’ve had other Clios which have been worse, guess it’s down to how well they’ve been treated - sounds like you have a good one
Hi guys, i really like clio rs 172, i found that 172 is cheaper then 182, is there any 172 with that super dope dual exhaust? Or is that just 182 thing?
Only the 182 has the dual exhaust, the 172 had no tips at all. Correct me if I’m wrong, the 172 had a spare tire, and the 182 doesn’t because the exhaust system takes up the space.

Thank you very much for this video. I am about to buy my first car in Australia and it will be a Renault Clio RS 182. This video helps a lot. Cheers!
I miss mine a lot thinking about buying another 182 so much fun and very nippy

How extensive was the rust and how much did it cost to sort if you don't mind me asking?
I have a tiny bubble on one of my arches 😢

One of my fav cars I had was my 172 cup very tempted to get another one in the future
Loved my 182 had it on three wheels on almost every corner I could.
Yeah! We need more phase 2s in the world! I personally own a 172 Cup. Who needs any creature comforts?
Glad I see a fellow go kart lover

Great video - I miss my Blackgold 182 now. I’ve had two 182s and now have a 172 cup and Pulsar GTI R 😉
Always wanted a Pulsar when I was young. What's it actually like to drive these days? Do they still feel fast?
I need a full guide for leaks as I did the scuttle but stil got it in my passenger side footwell.
Great choice of tires! I run the ziex 990 as well and couldn't be happier for a budget tire with Michelin like performance and noise
Renault also offered Recaro front seats as a factory option on later 182s. The same seats are fitted as a standard option on the trophy model.

Looking at a 182 trophy so this video is so helpful. Thanks

If you can find any rear ABS sensors on eBay, buy them. Had to replace one of mine and no one could find one. Even Renault. Ended up buying a used one
@@markerboy2002 Think a certain vote in 2016 may have something to do with us struggling to get bits. Well, I don't think... I know!

In uk 182 Cup only came in two colours, solid blue as standard with optional orange metallic colour, plus you could get optional white stripes
I had a Renault Clio in black like that, it was a good looking hot hatch.
I have the Clio 172 ph1 bought it last year doing a full strip down on her. SUBBED AND LIKED
