@@mlakeomen3577 it's because of the big 17 inch rims, combined with the low profile of the tire (45). If you drive the car alone or with 1 passanger without tons of bags in a Sport mode you can easly get 10s to 100kmh. Also after the lift they literally cut ambient ligts in the door handles and in the middle near the rear mirror - ant all 3 of them gave a really nice, soft, mist like atmosphere. I’ve had this same car for a month and a half and I manage a fuel consumption of 57 mpg, sometimes sixty something on a very good day so i don’t understand why you’re getting 30mpg, perhaps id suggest reset the onboard computer. Overall I’m very well impressed with it, It was an emergency purchase without testing it first and let me tell you, I was incredibly pleased with the drive home. It feels very well planted on the road for such a small car… when you select sport mode it delivers, I did not know it was going to be that fun to drive. My only complaint is that for some reason the speakers don’t sound too loud, they have very good quality sound but not as loud as I would like them to sound. I’m also not a huge fan of the radio controls, it should have physical buttons in my opinion. I thoroughly recommend this car
You can save even more money when you just get the new Mitsubishi Colt. It is literally the exact same car just with a Mitsubishi badge. They offer it in some markets. It's not only a bit cheaper but it comes standard with 5 years warranty, which can be extended to 8 years.
Had the 2020 RS Line Clio, 1.3 96kW for 3.5 years. Made 88000 km, sold it for good price. I really liked it a lot. Now considering of buying this version, but with the BOSE sound system, it sounds really nice for Clio. Blanked out buttons on 1:48 are for parking assistance and 360* camera
Enjoyed the video! I’ve got this car, the hybrid esprit alpine model and had for a year now and absolutely love it! I’m averaging 54mpg with a mix of driving so very shocked to hear you were getting such a low mpg. Would recommend this car to anyone! And for any girls who care, yes the cup holders in the front hold a Stanley cup 😂
I drive a clio. A regular 2017 bottom of the line 75hp 1.5dci diesel clio. And i never struggled to trash any other car on the twisty roads near my house, it really never, NEVER loses grip. I think i'll never find something else that drives this well.
One idea for a video that I just thought of: Do a video where you get the people you usually do races with and get like 2 or 3 of the same car with the specs being as similar as possible if not identical to see who is the best at the different tests and to also see if the difference is enough to skew results of tests when you compare different cars in other videos. Maybe get a sort of offset that viewers can apply to other videos, at least for the people you set the offset with. To be honest there might be some key detail im missing here, but it sounds like an interesting video to me.
Like the front end and the screen looks better with the smaller one but man that noisy heater would annoy me, and wow cant believe how expensive these smaller cars are now I must be getting old
I remember in 2015 when I bought a new fully speced Clio for 11.000€… they didn’t make em as nice though, but still, it’s more than twice as expensive now.
@@oskar6661 the limited fuel consumption will actually save you money in the end, having a constant 4.5 L/100km even when driving not very smoothly is great, and you also get EV boost for launch which can be useful
i bought this exact car and spec last month through carwow and i love it, so much quality for the price! interesting to see matt's issues with the car, the whine i personally don't have in mine, but the rest is about right yet not really a problem. after about 800 miles i'm at 55.9mpg and it climbs every time i drive, especially if you drive in B gear in eco mode and use the adaptive cruise control / speed limiter. It did start around 38 for me as well, but it appears to be the computer figuring things out over time. My actual usage has been in line what what renault said, but overall it's a great car and i recommend it to everyone, not that that counts for anything!
I have this car but in diamond black, love it. It is the top trim in the UK but not in the European market. The two blank buttons on the dash are meant to be for the 360 cameras and parking assist feature that the UK market doesn’t have. I was gutted to find out that the UK market just gets the standard reverse camera only. Apparently when I did my research on UA-cam I was viewing the Clio that was for the European market only, but I still bought the car and love driving it.
a good comparison for anyone who wants to buy this is the basic trim with 1.0 LPG + all the option available for the basic trim (heated sears, wireless key, aluminium wheels) and the full top spec dacia sandero/sandero stepway with the same engine configuration. the price is relatively similar but the dacia has automatic AC, more space, more ground clearance and a sunroof but the clio has a flat underneath, a bit sportier in the twisties, manual AC, a bit better soundproofing and the platform isn't the low spec version like the sandero one
Good review. I have a 2021 Clio E tech hybrid in base Iconic trim and it's pretty well equipped i have to say - i only discovered a few days ago, having owned it for 3 years, that it has an auto main/dip beam function!! Well i seldom drive at night, you see! This latest update has meant the base model now has less kit but it's still good value. Getting 65 mpg so most pleased. Negatives, well the suspension is too firm as are the seats ( all small car seats are the same it seems, why?) Renault deserves to be higher up the sales charts with the Clio.
Could you review (relatively) new Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid? Seems like the vehicle starts to get popular, would love to see your impression of the vehicle!
Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objective, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say
I bought a brand new Renault Austral with the Alpine Esprit package. After just 200 miles, the driver’s side door started making a cracking sound. Fortunately, it has a 5-year warranty, so they took care of it. However, once the warranty expires, I plan to sell it immediately. I'll likely opt for a Kia or Hyundai next, as they tend to be more reliable and better-built than this French one.
Most of the things the esprit alpine has, can also be added as packages on the non-high end model. Such as acc, big screens, and upgraded sound system, etc.
13:06 You only need to operate the height adjustment once EVER, unless you have multiple drivers, then it might be UP TO multiple times per day. That's not a bad thing exactly. In fact all the 5 things you hate, are not bad, not having annoying adaptive cruise control is actual a benefit... the only real bad thing is the wiper and blind spots, but not a deal breaker like adaptive cruise control would be. I would just have to regularly apply rainx window cleaner to the back window.
The Alpine spec Hybrid is a buy. Interior/Exterior design 9/10. Power Unit 9/10. Performance 9/10. Overall Score 97/100. Both Clio and Megane were are and will always be house hold names in the automotive industry.
I've driven a hybrid and it drives fine but I would never think of buying one,the car I've got just now has a petrol engine and when time comes to get a new one it will be an electric car 👍🏴
Seems a big engine for a 1.6 with an hybrid. In reality the clio should be made in Romania like the dacia brand and invest the cost savings in making the car better.
It suffers from the same acoustic issues as the previous Clio, unfortunately. AC vents have an annoying plasticky squeek when going over uneven surface and car develops more squeeks from the front windows wiggling around on the rails. Pretty normal for this class of a car but annoying because the top trim interior looks so nice you forget you drive a Clio, and then it starts reminding you it is a Clio after all
Not a bad car but the discount on one it’s none at least for now that’s what the dealer told me. So considering the bad resale value of Renault it’s not very tempting. However I have to give them credit for being innovative with the hybrid powertrain and good design.
I'm sure it'll make their year hearing that. Are you going to give the editor a pay! Rise! Also. After all they're there solely ;) for your amusement- clearly.
Can the hybrid get rpm too ? Bcs it have the ICE still. Not a biggest fan of that " charge, power, eco " things 😔 this thing can be add at the middle of the cluster screen
I would never pay extra money for the weight and complexity of an unnecessary hybrid system in a 145 hp small hatchback. That's laughable. Give the damn car a 1.4L 4-cylinder or something vastly lightly/simpler. This nonsense is getting out of hand...
@@blackwidow7804 but sipped way more fuel, also this one has a much simpler engine, so it really isn't more complicated, modern engines have to be really complicated nowadays to meet emissions regulations so it balances out (also this hybrid system seems to be fairly reliable for now, just had one recall but it was entirely paid by Renault)
@@anemeth9281 Yes. Paying $26K for a Prius when a similarly performing Corolla was $16K? That's asinine, particularly when people pretend they're trying to save money on fuel or save the environment...it's actual nonsense.
This seems like a step backwards compared to the top spec RS line they had; disgusting front end, no Bose sound system, no false floor, less ambient lighting, no 1.3 turbo petrol, no diesel, no surround camera, no auto park (not that I ever used it) I know all these were options, but they really took it from an average supermini to the best in recent years.
bought one in the first trim but with all the options you could put on the basic trim. the engine is 1.0 tce with LPG and 100 bhp. i don't regret paying 2000-3000€ less than the hybrid one, because i ride mostly outside town. i recently done 3375 km outside town + highway at 140 km/h to 180 (it's electronically limited) and i had a fuel consumption of 8.45 l / 100 km (lpg). in my country that means a fuel consumption of 4.18 l / 100 km in gasoline money and i'm 100% sure the hybrid won't get the same fuel consumption soooo it wasn't a good choice for me. otherwise, it's a sporty car, it has uhm... some sort of space in the back, but i had some people on longer journeys and it was allright for them. unfortunately Renault won't sell the LPG version on a higher trim (i understand the fact that esprit alpine is the top of the range but let's face it, 100 hp makes the car more "sportier" than the non lpg version.) i wish they could do that, i mean the automatic AC is a must but i got the manual one. oh and regarding the blank buttons and the false floor: one of the buttons is for the 360 reversing camera and the false floor is a 100€ option (at least in my country.)
I don't know why that one has such a drink problem. I did a couple of months recently in a Captur which is exactly the same drivetrain and got a true 58-60 MPG out of every tank brim to brim
I am clearly showing my age here, but since when has a small hatchback with 90hp become under powered? When I started driving the base Golf had 55hp and we lusted after the GT or GTD which had, you guessed it, 90hp. Those were powerful machines! ; )

Also after the lift they literally cut ambient ligts in the door handles and in the middle near the rear mirror - ant all 3 of them gave a really nice, soft, mist like atmosphere. Also mine has 2 grocery hooks and double floor in the trunk... The console is super solid, there are automatic lights above vanity mirrors, soft touch fake leather on the upper parts of the door and padded fake leather below, only where legs are I have hard plastics... really don't understand why Renault downgraded the car after the lifting. Lifting is for MAKING EVERYTHING BETTER. Stupid people.
Fastest car out there. Drive it like you stole it. No worries about scratches and dents.
At over £20k I think id be pissed if it got marked up etc
I suppose better late than never in reviewing this facelifted Clio, which was launched over a year ago 😆.
He been busy filming mostly pointless drag races and anything made by the VAG Group .
I get 57.6mpg in my Clio and I’ve had it just over a year. It’s the Esprit Alpine version too
I’ve had this same car for a month and a half and I manage a fuel consumption of 57 mpg, sometimes sixty something on a very good day so i don’t understand why you’re getting 30mpg, perhaps id suggest reset the onboard computer.
We dont have it in the U.K 🙄 I hate when people say get this instead when it’s not even available in the country
Mitsubishi doesn't sell the Colt in the UK.
I was like "surely it's not even close to being the same". But holydamn, that actually looks look like a straight up copy hahaha
Mitsubishi is part of the renault nissan alliance. The colt is a rebranded clio.
The Colt is not the Clio, but the Captur
nicest looking clio since the 182
38 mpg ! Mine is avg 58 over 1,500 miles from new, and i live in the country so 60mph B roads everywhere and regularly give it the beans, to work. 😊
Stunning car as expected with the French; although I prefer the Peugeot 208🦁
Great review but I'm still waiting for your review of the new G90 M5. Hope to see it soon.
The bose system unfortunately isn't available in the UK, as aswell as the 360 camera
@@alecv4622 absolutely don't understand that logic of manufacturers
The techno only gets the 7” not the 9.3”
Those wheels look real nice ngl
Amusing, I thought the opposite. Worst part of the car...
Liking the new Clio. If only the hybrid version didn't take away some boot space!
And add weight...and cost...and complexity...
I drive a 2019 Clio Grandtour, i like the car a lot so i am massivly disappointed that they dont produce a station Wagon clio anymore
Respect to mat and carwow reviewing in rain
I have this car but in diamond black, love it. It is the top trim in the UK but not in the European market. The two blank buttons on the dash are meant to be for the 360 cameras and parking assist feature that the UK market doesn’t have. I was gutted to find out that the UK market just gets the standard reverse camera only.
Apparently when I did my research on UA-cam I was viewing the Clio that was for the European market only, but I still bought the car and love driving it.
I love the reviews that you do. Have you any plans to review the Renault Symbioz? Cheers
a good comparison for anyone who wants to buy this is the basic trim with 1.0 LPG + all the option available for the basic trim (heated sears, wireless key, aluminium wheels) and the full top spec dacia sandero/sandero stepway with the same engine configuration. the price is relatively similar but the dacia has automatic AC, more space, more ground clearance and a sunroof but the clio has a flat underneath, a bit sportier in the twisties, manual AC, a bit better soundproofing and the platform isn't the low spec version like the sandero one
I wish French companies sold their Eco Hatches in America. This thing checks all of my boxes for a daily! Just look at those seats! They’re so nice 😭
Could you review (relatively) new Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid? Seems like the vehicle starts to get popular, would love to see your impression of the vehicle!
Somehow the rear tail lamps do no match the design language of the frontend 😢
Can't believe people buy new cars
Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objective, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say
WOW a review of an afordable car 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I own the Clio 2020 1.0 petrol and let me tell you it drinks next level
I bought a brand new Renault Austral with the Alpine Esprit package. After just 200 miles, the driver’s side door started making a cracking sound. Fortunately, it has a 5-year warranty, so they took care of it. However, once the warranty expires, I plan to sell it immediately. I'll likely opt for a Kia or Hyundai next, as they tend to be more reliable and better-built than this French one.
I love how they put both Esprit and Alpine in there🤣
you kinda need to put both `esprit` and `alpine` if you want to say `alpine spirit` in French 🤷♂
Ive got one of these, absolutely love it!
I have the the pre-facelift (the one just before this one) and I love it.
Its a good car
What a great compact car. If that were a Toy-ota Mat wouldn't complain about anything.
The price is just craaazy 🤷
The Alpine spec Hybrid is a buy. Interior/Exterior design 9/10. Power Unit 9/10. Performance 9/10. Overall Score 97/100. Both Clio and Megane were are and will always be house hold names in the automotive industry.
at 4:12 that was close 💀
I've driven a hybrid and it drives fine but I would never think of buying one,the car I've got just now has a petrol engine and when time comes to get a new one it will be an electric car 👍🏴
While others review Aston Martin...
Mat: This is the new Renault clio
*Mat
What color is your Clio?
All for that. We need more real world reviews
14:07 matt there is a also a hidden light that you can see better at night at the door
Seems a big engine for a 1.6 with an hybrid. In reality the clio should be made in Romania like the dacia brand and invest the cost savings in making the car better.
It is made in Slovenia and Turkey
Imagine a German manufacturer putting "Spirit of Audi" (or Bentley, or Lambo) on a Polo. Or Ford putting "Spirit of Lincoln" on a Crown Vic.
I've had the 100hp petrol for 4 years and no issues so far except for some brake noise.
Still the Clio we love, one of the last small cars standing 😢😂😂.
To bad is no more any RS version or now Alpine one❤❤
I miss the times when the ford fiesta had 120Hp with it's low price
Porsche taycan turbo s refresh VS Audi rs e tron gt refresh drag race would be AWSOMEE. Who agrees???? 👇👇
It suffers from the same acoustic issues as the previous Clio, unfortunately. AC vents have an annoying plasticky squeek when going over uneven surface and car develops more squeeks from the front windows wiggling around on the rails. Pretty normal for this class of a car but annoying because the top trim interior looks so nice you forget you drive a Clio, and then it starts reminding you it is a Clio after all
I thought mine had developed a fault with the whistling interior fan but looks like they all do it! the pre facelift didnt!
THANKS CARWOW ❤🎉 GREAT WORK TEAM
Not a bad car but the discount on one it’s none at least for now that’s what the dealer told me. So considering the bad resale value of Renault it’s not very tempting. However I have to give them credit for being innovative with the hybrid powertrain and good design.
I don't praise your editor enough, they always find a way to make me chuckle.
Yeah the previous model had 1.3 Turbo with 130hp and was actually faster with 0-60 in 8.3s
@@blackwidow7804 but sipped way more fuel, also this one has a much simpler engine, so it really isn't more complicated, modern engines have to be really complicated nowadays to meet emissions regulations so it balances out
(also this hybrid system seems to be fairly reliable for now, just had one recall but it was entirely paid by Renault)
Show us on the doll where the hybrid system touched you.
So Toyota has been non-sensing in the past 20 yrs?
@@anemeth9281 Yes. Paying $26K for a Prius when a similarly performing Corolla was $16K? That's asinine, particularly when people pretend they're trying to save money on fuel or save the environment...it's actual nonsense.
You guys need a warehouse to film car's when the weather is bad
This seems like a step backwards compared to the top spec RS line they had; disgusting front end, no Bose sound system, no false floor, less ambient lighting, no 1.3 turbo petrol, no diesel, no surround camera, no auto park (not that I ever used it)
I know all these were options, but they really took it from an average supermini to the best in recent years.
Got to say I've recently bought an RS trophy 220 for the mrs. Absolutely love it compared to the mini cooper S. Pops, bangs and goes like stink 😂
The metal sound was so loud on my speakers my windows shook
bought one in the first trim but with all the options you could put on the basic trim. the engine is 1.0 tce with LPG and 100 bhp. i don't regret paying 2000-3000€ less than the hybrid one, because i ride mostly outside town. i recently done 3375 km outside town + highway at 140 km/h to 180 (it's electronically limited) and i had a fuel consumption of 8.45 l / 100 km (lpg). in my country that means a fuel consumption of 4.18 l / 100 km in gasoline money and i'm 100% sure the hybrid won't get the same fuel consumption soooo it wasn't a good choice for me.
otherwise, it's a sporty car, it has uhm... some sort of space in the back, but i had some people on longer journeys and it was allright for them.
unfortunately Renault won't sell the LPG version on a higher trim (i understand the fact that esprit alpine is the top of the range but let's face it, 100 hp makes the car more "sportier" than the non lpg version.) i wish they could do that, i mean the automatic AC is a must but i got the manual one.
oh and regarding the blank buttons and the false floor: one of the buttons is for the 360 reversing camera and the false floor is a 100€ option (at least in my country.)
Me gustaría ver un reportaje del opel corsa híbrido de 136cv!!no hay ni un solo video en internet de ese coche😡será carwow los primeros?
The definitive review from my friend ❤❤
Lovely looking Renault. They have came on leaps and bounds lately. I especially like the mk5 Megane
I don't know why that one has such a drink problem. I did a couple of months recently in a Captur which is exactly the same drivetrain and got a true 58-60 MPG out of every tank brim to brim
Great review!😸
Wish they were still making the Fiesta
I am clearly showing my age here, but since when has a small hatchback with 90hp become under powered? When I started driving the base Golf had 55hp and we lusted after the GT or GTD which had, you guessed it, 90hp. Those were powerful machines! ; )
Your face when you adjusted the fan was 😂
