GREAT tip -Shopping online to avoid the book line and your pattern organization system is AMAZING! Thank you so much! I love your videos! You are FABULOUS!
It’s because this isn’t titled best for what it mostly teaches. It should be titled how to read patterns. I thought it was going to be more tips on where to buy, how to find deals etc. That was only 3min a the video. The rest was a great tutorial on how to read a pattern before buying supplies, if that was what you’re looking for.
I'm so glad I stumble across one of your videos, so I had to watch them all very informative can't wait to see what's next... Thank you so much for sharing
So informative I'm so glad I found your channel I want to take up sewing as a hobby and your videos so far are very helpful and educative Will be looking forward to more videos👍
this is my all time question u are talking about but other question please I use to fix clothes by practice from mom but also I try to sew from a UA-cam but I would love to understand about patterns must I go to university to be perfect in sewing.??
Great video, I totally forgot about some of the things you pointed out on the back of the pattern, like read all the way through the pattern to be sure you have all notions needed and that stretch gauge at the top of the pattern. I like idea the idea of creating a wish list, just created mine now in my phone. I see so many patterns on IG on online that I want to try and never write the down! TFS!
NaturalDane You're welcome! I LIVE from from wishlist and inventory list. It definitely speeds up the shopping process and I'm able to grab the patterns I want. It also stops me from buying duplicates!
I love the way you explain things and the enunciation. I found your videos this morning. What I need is how to pick pattern sizes due to my variation not matching that patterns. I would be so grateful for that. If you have already done that please may I have the title so I can find it easily. Thank you so much! I am enjoying your videos so much!!
I don't have a video on this, but here's how I do it. I pick the size that works with the majority of my key measurements like bust, waist, and hip. Then I'll use this technique to blend them: oliverands.com/community/blog/2013/11/blending-between-sizes.html
Thanks for posting! I'm just getting back into sewing now that I have more free time. You look so familiar too... Did you used to post on Healthy Textures? If so, it's nice to see ya!
I bought so many patterns once and I TRIED to make a dress from one and it was so hard and discouraging to me that I just gave them all away! I actually LOVE to sew but I REALLY want to learn to sew from patterns so bad
They were confusing to me at first, you can start with the Easy patterns and work your way up in difficulty. Also, there are amazing seamstresses who never use patterns! So, don't feel pressured to use a pattern if they aren't for you! There is more than one way to do this! Stay encouraged.
Omg I just started watching yt a channel I'm in love with your videos so informative I get my patterns from walmart also walmart, joann, and also I go to the actual pattern website.
Hi. I am a new friend here on youtube. I like you too. Like I sad on other video, I have been sewing for a minute. Am actually in the mist of sewing marathon to use some of the 50 or so patterns I have and omg the fabric. I found that I had duplicated a purchase so I found an app to catalog the patterns. It has some flaws but I am not smart enough to program one myself so it is perfect for me. I want to share with you and your followers. It is called, My sewing box. You can take pictures of front & back of pattern & there is a kind of search feature. What app are you using to keep your wish list. Because the app doesnt have that option. I just write them in my litte note pad I keep with my sewing supplies.
Hi, am new to sewing and am loving your tutorials. My question is when am looking at the back of a pattern (dress) at the bust 34 and the waist 34 1/2 would I end up using 2 different sizes when cutting out the pattern? Not quite sure how to do this.
Peazy Welcome to sewing! I just use the regular ole Notepad in my iPhone. I have headings for each brand. For my inventory, I keep the numbers in numerical order by brand for fast browsing.
I have to do this often. Before you cut out your pattern pieces, you'll need to draw in a new cutting line that blends the sizes you need. So, if your waist is a size 10, but your hips a size 14, you will need to draw a line that blends the 10 to the 14 towards to the hip. Use a hip curve ruler to make the line a nice smooth curve.
Hi Eryn! I found you on UA-cam because I was serching on how to make a pleated midi skirt, and found your video. I watched it and loved it so much, that I already subcribed!!! :D I was watching thisvideo and your talked about Jo Ann and Hancock Fabrics and went to see... Do you know that Hancock Fabrics is going OUT OF BUSINESS???? They have major discounts on stores only. In all patterns they are selling with 50% OFF!!!!! I thought you would like to know!!!! Kisses from Portugal!

Style Sew Me What's the difference between a fabric and a pattern?
Fabric is the material used to make the actual garment, when I say pattern I'm referring to the paper guide that u cut out and use to cut the material
Omg I just started watching yt a channel I'm in love with your videos so informative I get my patterns from walmart also walmart, joann, and also I go to the actual pattern website.
Do u think it's better to buy sewing stuff online or at the store ?
It doesn't matter to me.

I only use the notepad option of my phone for my inventory and wishlist.

It's quite common to have to blend two sizes together, so yes, if that's what works for your measurements, do that.
I just started sewing and love the idea of keeping lists. Do you use a certain app for your list or just the notepad app that comes with the phone?
Peazy Welcome to sewing! I just use the regular ole Notepad in my iPhone. I have headings for each brand. For my inventory, I keep the numbers in numerical order by brand for fast browsing.
I live in trinidad and for some reason we have cloth stores galore nut None sells patterns.....AT ALL
emeraldkei What? That makes no sense! I guess they want you to figure it out from scratch!
What about your hip measurement? The waist may be 1 size but the hip may not fit the pattern for the waist?
I have to do this often. Before you cut out your pattern pieces, you'll need to draw in a new cutting line that blends the sizes you need. So, if your waist is a size 10, but your hips a size 14, you will need to draw a line that blends the 10 to the 14 towards to the hip. Use a hip curve ruler to make the line a nice smooth curve.
can yu plz give me the website to buy the fabric an the patterns
Great advice! Especially about the wishlist!
