Today was the first time I ever downloaded a pattern (30 pages) and had no idea what to do next! The instructions are clear about how to sew the pattern but nothing on how to put the PDF pattern pieces together! Thank you so much!
This folding technique is a game changer thank you! I also saw another UA-camr, where to cut the perfect size pattern, measure yourself and "trace" or "add" where you'd need to adjust (you may have a medium size waist, but your hips may be a large size, for instance), so after you finish sewing your piece, it fits correctly. A lot of times we tend to just cut the size because we are small, medium, etc. size, but when you finish it doesn't fit in certain areas. Most of us are not an exact size, so this is an adjustment to think about before we cut the final piece of the pattern. I am tall legged, so most patterns I must add a few inches; I normally wear a 34" inseam length, especially if it is dress pants and wear high heels! And I also loved the way to store these types of patterns, G-E-N-I-U-S!!! I've seen these actually at Dollar Tree! ;-)
I've been avoiding using PDF patterns because I'm so ised to the old shop bought ones. But after watching this video, I feel perfectly prepared to get started. So glad I found you. Thank you so much 😊
I was at a lost. I was racking my brain on why my sewing pattern was not printing at the correct size. I measured everything correctly on Adobe but for the life of me could not get it to print the correct size. But when I saw your video, you stated some printers would need to be changed on the advanced. I did that and it worked. My sewing pattern is now at the correct size when printed. I am so glad I found your video, it helped me out tremendously. Thank you for all of your tips to help us out here.
This is really helpful as I'm just starting with PDF patterns! Thank you. The one thing I discovered that made my life easier was that I got a weighted tape dispenser at Staples, the kind that just uses the tape rolls like you would see in a office, for 10 bucks. for me, I found it to be easier to pull off the tape needed instead of fiddling with a little plastic tape dispensers. Added bonus, the weighted dispenser helps keep my patterns in place while I tape them!
Omg thank you. I stupidly never watched a video of how to do this and winged it. Later to find out I sewed a messy shirt. Now I'm so excited to make a new one, correctly using this method!
This was super helpful for me. I have just ordered PDF pattern to make a custom Dress Form for myself. Whilst I have been given instructions on how to print the pattern at home, I haven't been given anything on how to assemble the print outs.
Oh my gosh, this was so helpful! I have about 6 patterns downloaded, 1 printed out and then... That's where it all came to an end. I have used envelope patterns or made them up on my own. This was so foreign and intimidating for me, so I basically gave up. That's not true to my nature, but technology has not been something I'm good at. I would blame my age, but I was just stubborn about it and then became overwhelmed. You just made this so comfortable for me and I feel really confident about giving it a try. I have a question about copying the pattern, prior to cutting it out. Hopefully this makes sense- I normally copy my tissue pattern and then fold it up and return to envelope. I do this so that I always have the range of sizes. Do you think that's a possibility with printed pdf ones? Thank you for explaining this in such a wonderful way. With joy, Audri
I’m so happy it was helpful! It was a block for me too when I started, but so many great patterns are PDF only or hard to get in physical form (especially now!)
This is so helpful!! The Bo top is my first wearable sewing project and I was trying to figure out how I get from printer to pattern- this was exactly what I needed! Thank you for making such a thorough tutorial.
I love this folding method as I am horrible in cutting and I have given up on pdf patterns and the said thing I have more than a couple of pdf patterns that I have purchased, thank you so much... Ntsiki
Hi Jordan, just discovered you :) Thanks for this video as have never downloaded a pattern let alone stick one together lol, Great tips for storing the pattern pieces too x x
Thank you for the video! Waiting for more beginner-friendly tips like this! One questions because l'm still not sure - does this pdf patterns have a room left for a seam? Can I just cut the lines according to the pattern size guide and not worry about the seam allowance?
Hi! Yes this pattern includes seam allowance, most do, but it will tell you either way. Some parts of the pattern may have more or less seam allowance, but they will let you know in the directions.
ive taught myself how to sew for the most part, being a dancer, but now i am hoping to get back in the swing of sewing and making a dress for an upcoming ball!
Have you tried using a scotch pop-up tape dispenser that has a handband? I use mine for gift wrapping packages but it seems like you'd benefit form having one. It has pre-cut tape strips in a convientant dispenser.
I appreciate your video! I used to sew years ago and just started up again so I find it helpful for a refresher course! I also liked the tips you threw in. Question….what if you want to use the same pattern in a different size? Would you trace the pattern or print out another pattern?
If I am doing multiple sizes (usually for my kids’ clothes or a toile if I’m unsure what size to make) then I transfer onto other paper. I do the same if I’m sewing from a printed pattern I’ve purchased. Thanks for your question and for watching :)
I have a probably dumb question. Lol. If you I going to make multiple of the same item but in different sizes, I would need to print and cut for each size, right? So three separate patters printed out. Thank you
Not a dumb question at all! I have had to do the same when making multiple sizes of the same item for my kids. What I do is assemble one pattern, and then use tracing paper, or tissue paper from the dollar store works too, to trace over the separate sizes. If I plan on using more sizes eventually, I’ll keep the big master pattern in tact and just create patterns of each individual size using the tracing paper. Does that make sense?
Hey girl! I have a question! So i printed my 1st pattern, I printed and measured the little square on the 1st page before i printed the whole pattern. The 4x4 was correct so i proceeded to print the whole pattern. When i got gome to assemble the pattern like you did, some of the pages did not match! Im not sure what i did wong, this is my 1st pattern i have ever printed on my own! 😣😣 do you have any idea what I did? Or if i can still use what i have? Anyone!? TIA 🙂
Do you mean the key printed on your pattern? That should have the different line styles for each size. Unfortunately there’s very little regulation around sizing though so it varies from company to company.
I do not feel secure about PDF because the numbers do not follow exactly like for that pattern for the piece you began with, you have numbers 1 to 5 and 7to 10. How come we do not see number 6 for the same piece ? The number 6 must be for another piece but how am I supposed to know that ?
i have a pattern from seam works for a Bumbastic fanny /bum bag...i didnt realize how big it is going to be.. is there a way to make the pattern smaller so the bag is not so large and keep all pattern pieces able to work new to PDF patterns , any help would be appreciated
this video was quiet helpful but im struggling at the moment with this underwear patteren. it has one page but the pattern does not come out fully on one page

It’s really a handy way to buy patterns, but it definitely adds a whole other step to sewing!
Same! 45 pages and overwhelmed -- until I watched this. So incredibly helpful!

Perfect! Now I know what to do with all those papers shooting out of my printer!
Ah ha, yeah the first big pattern I printed out I was terrified how I was going to assemble 50 pages!
I've been avoiding using PDF patterns because I'm so ised to the old shop bought ones. But after watching this video, I feel perfectly prepared to get started. So glad I found you. Thank you so much 😊
Me too I was so scared to even try but today I have been following along and have my pdf downloaded and ready to go.
The folding tip is genius, I don't know why I didn't think of that. Thank yoU!
Great video! With the cost of patterns ($19.99) this saves a lot of money. I remember when patterns were 75 cents! Been seeing since 1967 🤗🌷

That is such a great tip! Definitely going to pick one up (plus with holiday wrapping to do I think it will come in handy!)
I bought three clothing pattern off from Etsy, after I opened the PDF i felt so overwhelmed. THank you so much for giving us guidance.
Extremely helpful tutorial. Clearly explained and demonstrated. Thank you very much
I’m excited to make my first cottagecore dress. Thank you for the explanation on putting the pattern together.
Great video Jordan. Love the little chubby hand trying to steal your tape. ❤
Yes, I always have to share my tape ;)
Thank you so much for the fold tip! I have trouble but straight so assembling patterns are daunting!
Omg thank you. I stupidly never watched a video of how to do this and winged it. Later to find out I sewed a messy shirt. Now I'm so excited to make a new one, correctly using this method!
Just got my first printout patterns, for a sundress and some wide leg shorts. Thank you so much for this!
Thank you so much! I purchased my first PDF pattern in June 2023. I could not begin how to download it for printing. This video was so helpful. 😀
This was very helpful! I'm brand new to sewing and just learned what a pattern even was. Thankyou!
This was super helpful for me. I have just ordered PDF pattern to make a custom Dress Form for myself. Whilst I have been given instructions on how to print the pattern at home, I haven't been given anything on how to assemble the print outs.
Really love your suggestions and the different options you give to do the same thing 👏🏿💯
Very clear and helpful. Thank you for all the details😊
So happy it was helpful! Hope it inspired you to create something beautiful
Excellent. Really clear and precise tutorial, the best I have found on using a PDF pattern as a novice. Thanks.

This is so helpful. Of course I'm jumping straight in with my first project. I'm making a cosplay from scratch. Nearly 400 pages!

Thanks for this. You've made the whole process much clearer.
(Now all I need to do is fine the space to be able to pay everything out!)
Thank you so much for this. It really helps a lot. My next project is going to be the Bo Sewalong with you!
AMAZING TIPSM THANK UUUU
Hi! Could you make a video about how to cut the fabric? I think some times it is kinda tricky when you are a beginner :c
That’s a great idea! Are you wondering about tools? Grainline? Attaching the pattern to the fabric itself?
@@_commonthread Attaching the pattern to the fabric... Big mistakes happen in this step haha 😅
Extremely helpful! ❤
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching!
Love this technique thank you so much 😁
Omg we need these shorts! Did you make these?
These are the Fremantle pants! Pattern by Elba Textiles, but with various hacks! Shorts tutorial coming soon!
Thank you thank you!!
Excellent Video!!
Thanks for the idea! I also love sewing. 😉
Amazing ... Thank You

I’m so happy it was helpful for you!
loving your videos, very helpful :)
Thanks so much Alisa! Glad you found it helpful!
You are appreciated!
HI Jordan, What if the pattern doesn't have the little triangles or notches to match up. Only straight lines.
I love you videos, you explain very well, I'm spanish and i understand you perfectly. You have istagram? I don't found it on the description. Thanks😍
hi thank you for that! I was very confused on why it looked like that. Why wasn't there a number 6? lol
It was one of the pages of the “grid” but it didn’t have any of the actual pattern on it so I didn’t both adding it.
Love this so much, thanks!
You are so welcome, thanks for watching!
At first, I was like, "wth is she doing?" Then I was like..."Ohhhhh! I'm the dumb one." 🤪
Do you have to reprint for the different sizes?
Thank you for your videos. What pattern did you use for the shorts you’re wearing in this video? I have been looking for a pattern like those
I have a probably dumb question. Lol. If you I going to make multiple of the same item but in different sizes, I would need to print and cut for each size, right? So three separate patters printed out. Thank you

Thank you!
What version of Adobe are you using in this video
Is the cut line the seam allowance line?
Thank you!!!😭
thanks
What if the 2”square comes out wrong…😩
hello! im confused about the key part. is that for sizes? if so, what is the equivalent and is it a format for all of sewing?
Do you mean the key printed on your pattern? That should have the different line styles for each size. Unfortunately there’s very little regulation around sizing though so it varies from company to company.
Thanks so much!!!

My pdf doesn't come with those triangles and numbers. What do i do? i need help 😨🙏
What printer paper did you use for printing it out?
I use an ancient brother printer, I don’t think they make it anymore!
thank you super helpful! hopefully, i do it correctly :)
Where are the free patterns she mentioned.?
What about the number 1 & 6?
